With the American economy serving as divisive an issue as any in the country, on Wednesday evening Piers Morgan sits down with a man considered to be a verified expert on economics, business magnate Donald Trump.
Joining the real estate mogul and television personality in his lush Manhattan offices, Morgan asks his guest about the most recent unemployment figures, which are said to be at a five year low.
The man who made "you're fired" a household phrase cautions Morgan about taking the figures at face value:
"Well the real unemployment is 13 to 15, maybe even 16 or 17 percent, because so many people have given up looking for jobs. And as you know, in the new count, they don’t include that," explains Trump. "So you're looking for a job, then you give up, and you're now, you don’t have a job, and they don’t include that. So what kind of unemployment rate is that at seven percent?"
As he switches gears slightly to the stock market, an entity that Morgan describes as "soaring to record heights," Trump agrees that in this specific area, things are improving, especially for those in his distinguished tax bracket:
"We're all getting free money. I'm in the stock market. I was never a stock market person, but about three-and-a-half years ago I said 'I'm going to put a lot of money in the stock market, because it almost has to get up, and go up,' and I look like a great genius," reveals the 67-year-old grandfather. "I've made tremendous investments in the stock market, all because I said a few years ago 'I'm getting free money.'"
