New Mexico school shooting witness: "I don't want to go to [my school] anymore because of what happened ... I'm afraid it's going to happen again"

On the heels of yet another United States school shooting, on Tuesday evening "Piers Morgan Live" welcomed a 13-year-old who witnessed the horrific events first hand.

Monique Salcido was in the Berrendo Middle School gym in New Mexico when a fellow student removed a shotgun from his bag and opened fire.

Joining Piers Morgan by phone, she detailed what she saw:

"I was walking and he was right behind me, and I turned around and he had this case. And we all went in the gym. And then later on, we were all talking and then we heard gun shots," said Tuesday's guest. "And then the second shot, I turned around and Nathaniel got hit in the face."

The boy to whom Salcido reffered is an 11-year-old who's currently in critical condition. Another student, 13-year-old Kendall, was still in surgery as of late Tuesday night.

Just hours after witnessing her two friends being shot, and then subsequently spending much of the day in a state of lockdown, Salcido closed her live interview with a telling comment:

"I wasn't really scared of what happened," she started. "But I don't want to go to Berrendo anymore because of what happened. I'm afraid it's going to happen again."

Piers, You are not alone. It's appalling to me that we have so many guns in this Country. Also disturbing is that gun loving people don't see the connection. The easy access to guns is killing more people. Mentally ill, angry teens, disgruntled employees and many other unstable people would not be able to kill if they didn't have guns handed to them. It is mystifying how people that have actually lost children and loved ones to gun violence yet they still support guns, guns, guns. I worry for the future of our children. Kari Tannis

Look at country's with stricter gun laws, much more crime. Bad people will always find a way to hurt good people (bombs, cars, knives, fists, ect.) more people die in America from being beat to death then guns and most gun deaths are from people committing suicide... People who will kill themselves anyways. Please look up the oregon mall shooting, a man with a concealed carry license stopped the mass shooting before the shooter could get 3 shots off. More guns in the hands of good people will prevent mass shootings, notice how they always happen in gun free zones? Police can't be everywhere at once, what you need for these situations is an immediate armed response. Police will even advise you to conceal carry just for that reason. Blaming guns for this is like blaming cars for car accidents......

Al quesadilla doesn't need to kill Americans. The Americans are doing a very good job themselves, in movie theatres, schools, etc. etc,

Governments have murdered 10s if not 100 million of their own citizens, after first taking their guns away.
Obama sends actual assault rifles to the people of other countries so they can fight against their oppressive government.

Gun control in the U.S. was started to stop black people from having guns. An armed man is a free man.

The U.S. has more guns than ever, more people carrying every day, and crime including murder has gone down. Explain that.

you do have one thing in common with the DEMS your bully and you think if you take our guns away life will be better. No life would be like the state that have ban guns more killing. we are not England. mental ill and the Hollywood movies and games had made this a sicker places. I think the parents will stop it by school opening up and banding games and tv and most movies in there home. plus gun checks at the doors. Don't you find it odd that its not out in parks or in the wild. no shot out in camp sites. now check the movies and the games where are the killing in them? you got your answer.

I simple do not understand.....why privat person needs gun WHY. Guns are for army and police ,i think that you pay taxes for goverment and they pay for army and police to protect you , and if you have to buy gun to protect yourself ,than somethink is wrong in system .Why you have police ??why you have army??it does not make sence to keep them in duty ,if you need to buy gun.I live in germany and i am happy to live here ,becouse would not feel safe i states with so many guns .to be afraid to say or to do somethink what sombody else does not like and that person is gonna shot me just like that ,like nothink happend. I just hope that you will realize how many children are killed because of the guns.

Right now, Obama is sending large amounts of high-powered guns to people in other countries so they can fight against their oppressive government. During World War II, the British people didn't have enough guns and feared invasion, so their government put advertisements in U.S. magazines asking U.S. citizens to send their personal guns over, which they did.

There are more guns in the U.S. than ever, yet crime including murder is down.

The U.S. is a big place. Calling the police for help, if you are even able to call them for help, could mean they arrive an hour later. By then, the criminal already killed you or took your daughter. More and more law enforcement in the U.S. is recommending people arm themselves because the police can't be everywhere at once.

Criminals will get guns or other weapons to harm you because criminals don't care about laws. Wanting to take guns away from law-abiding people only helps the criminals be safer.

There are more guns in the U.S. than ever yet crime including murder is down.
