Piers Morgan Says Goodbye

On Friday night, Piers Morgan signed off as "Piers Morgan Live" host for the final time.

Nearly forty months since the show first launched, we thank you all for watching, and in the words of our fearless leader, "even those who implacably disagreed with me, or just found my funny accent annoying."

Thank you, and goodnight.

Piers Morgan, you have been an absolutely incredible interviewer and a trustworthy source of news, inspiration and opinion throughout your tenure at CNN. I am devastated to see you go and will miss your presence, tenacity and sheer honesty each night. I look forward to seeing where you appear next...until that time, you will be sincerely missed. Thank you for all of the heart and soul that you have put into PML – you are nothing short of a true inspiration.

I agree with you Alanna. I also enjoyed Piers Morgan and shame on CNN for bowing down to the NRA supporters whom I strongly suspect sent in a block of negative comments urged on by the NRA leaders. It's too bad that many of the NRA rank and file do not understand that the NRA BASE is made up of GUN MANUFACTURERS who PROFIT from gun sales. Piers had the common sense and courage to try to wake up Americans on the gun issue.

        You people are unbelievable. -_-

I am not an NRA member or a gun manufacturer or a political lobbyist. Most people who disliked his show were just Americans who don't like being told what to do by every arrogant jerk with a TV show who thinks they know better. And CNN didn't "bow to pressure"; his ratings went to sh** so they cancelled his show. If you want to blame it on the New World Order/Military-Industrial Complex/Corporate Lobbyists/Zionists/blahblahblah, that's on you, but that makes you every bit as crazy as the alleged crazy people you are so afraid of.

I find it laughable that s many of the antigun crowd thinks that a handful of manufacturers and 5M NRA members have so much power. Just maybe it might be the other 95M gun owners helping pull the cart?
If one removes the underaged, felons and mentally challenged from the equation you'd find that the gun owner versus gun seizing crowds are equally matched. That's why there's no movement on this issue.
I'm hoping Morgan goes back to his homeland where the people fear the government. Where citizens are arrested for assault when they try to defend themselves from those who would harm or where police abandon citizens during riots. Where a police official can say he doesn't like the American justice system because it sends people to jail. Thank goodness we have gotten to keep someone like Mark Steyn.

You have no idea what you're talking about. I am an NRA member, and I have never received a single communication from the NRA that even mentions Morgan's name, let alone some organized campaign to get him fired. The NRA isn't responsible for his abysmal ratings, and that's what REALLY cost PM his job.

That is so funny. A NRA member who 'wasn't informed' about their dislike of Piers Morgan or anyone else who knocks them. Why would they need to let you members know their tactics? If you were a member of the Mafia would they give you a call you before they shot someone?
Thank you for your entertaining naive comment. I needed that today.

What a shame. He was one of the few intelligent voices in a sea of 24-news cycle babble. Didn't always agree, but found the interviews stimulating. Sounds like most of those who wanted him gone were ones who cannot tolerate opinions other than their own.

Alanna, I, too, am devastated that Piers Morgan is now off the air. I watched him almost every night and will feel his departure sorely. I truly admired his conviction and courage to his principles, especially in regard to gun control in this country, and his intelligent style of interviewing. He genuinely seemed interested in every guest he had on his show. I hope he will resurface soon. He cared so much for this country and the people here. Should he return to Great Britain, it will truly be our loss and their gain.

I agree with the last two comments and must add that CNN has no back-bone, just made of jelly fish. Always reporting Breaking News that will make the bottom line. They have common sense to make money and put Democrats against Republicans. CNN needs to get real and wake up to reality... PERIOD!

So very sorry to see you leaving. Your wit and intellect are unmatched. I would bet that at least 90% of your detractors have never set foot of the U.S.A. Let alone their own state. I went to the international school school system in late 60's &early 70's. My father worked for B.F Good rich in Frankfurt (our soccer team even beat the London International school and we won the only international school system for FIS in '71) I wish everyone could experience a significant time outside the U. S. We need a better world view in this country. You brought that back for me and I thank you fit.. Best of luck and hope to see you again. Denny Ryan

I have lived outside of the USA for a significant portion of my life, including Europe, South America and Asia. I can tell you I never appreciated more my country than when I lived outside of it! If you like living elsewhere then please move! Piers Morgan does not represent my views and remember, CNN is an organization that lives and dies on ratings. Morgan's show was trash and it reflected in the ratings. I don't need a brit to tell me of my countries shortcomings. At least we don't have a royal family to take care of!

In his goodbye, Mr Morgan blamed his departure on his (self-justified) editorials on gun control. Not.

He is a competent anchor, but not suited to interviews, like Larry King. He never was a very good interviewer, but always stated, and restated his views(commentary). He was much like Mr. Ed on MSNBC or Hannity on Fox.

Too bad, So sad; I hope that CNN will choose a good interviewer, not another opinionated commentator. Best wishes to Mr. Morgan.

I just passed by the television on my way up to bed. I caught only3 minutes of your show tonight and heard myself say aloud "Good for you Pires, you are 100% correct in your gun evaluation." It is not your fault that a good part of the US does not agree with you, we'll see how they feel when something horrible happens to them or the loved one. By coming to the computer to note this, if dawned on me that this is your last show. I will miss you. Take care.

Mr. Morgan, I am so incredibly depressed to see you go. You had the courage and tenacity to voice your heart-felt concerns over the gun issue in America, and I felt like I had someone speaking on my behalf. I actually talked to you through the television at times saying "way to go Piers". You were my voice when I don't have a voice. Thank you for your passion. Most people on television don't have the courage to 'speak up' but not you. You used your power in television to try and make this world a better place by trying to raise the consciousness of Americans regarding their obsession with guns. The Devil is using the 2nd amendment to turn Americans against each other by killing each other with guns. America won't have to fear another terrorist attack because it will be home-grown Americans killing each other with guns. It's time to leave America to its' own devices...it made it's bed now it has to sleep in it. It is very sad and very tragic.

If America followed Pier's recommendation, the millions of law-abiding gun owners would turn in their guns...leaving armed criminals and un-armed victims. Great work Piers – demonize law-abiding citizens who chose to exercise their 2nd Amendment Right to protect themselves and offer no solutions on taking guns away from criminals who are breaking the law. Just remember...when seconds count, the police are just minutes away. I've never shot anybody, but when the day comes that some crackhead breaks into my house, I'm ready to defend myself and my family.

Really, Don? I don't remember the guy from Aurora shooting having a criminal record. And I don't recall that Jared guy who shot gabby giffords in the head being on parole either. And that guy who killed 20 kindergartners, I'm pretty sure there wasn't anything in the news about him escaping from prison right before the shooting. So which category do they fall under? But I will say, I hope you have a veeeery steady hand and that your nerves really don't get the best of you bc god forbid that crackhead breaks into your house, I'm pretty sure he's gonna be packing heat too and be a lot more comfortable with the gun. Personally, I think its best to get guns out of the hands of law-abiding citizens (who could snap at any moment), people with a history of mental health issues (bc let's face it....millions of Americans are on something for something with zero incident), moms and dads with angsty teens, criminals, crackheads, etc. Just seems so much more logical.

        There are always nunchucks.

What stops good people from going bad? Everybody is on some form of medication, what happens if they miss taking their meds? Under the right conditions a loaded gun will solve all their problems. American doctors claim nobody is safe in a house with a loaded gun especially for women and children.

        I'm going to respond anyway...

Don't mistake my tone but I want to make sure I'm reading your comment correctly. Are you saying that a person with a history of mental health/mood disorder issues (depression, bi-polar, PTSD, etc.)+missed dose of medication+gun=gun violence???

If so, that is a VEEEERY dangerous generalization to make. Bullying, infidelity, job loss, etc. also cause law-abiding citizen to go bad and and mental health isn't a factor. When people miss dosages of their medication (and obviously it varies on what they suffer from and how many dosages they miss) it takes a while before it actually leaves their system. They may not even feel any different.

Don't get me wrong, i still think their should be a ban on guns...they are dangerous for all people. Women and children but men too.

So sorry to see you go. We are too used to choosing a media source that gives us what we want to hear. Whole news stations are based on a certain demographic. I choose CNN because I hope to see and hear a more objective source. We received that on your program, you gave us the facts and unfortunately, a lot of people could neither understand it or take the truth. Even when the majority of Americans want gun control laws, we are forced to live in fear of our children being killed in their school or to dare send a text message in a movie theatre. Good luck to you in the future, your reporting should be appreciated by your employer not swayed by ratings. CNN needs to look back to the beginning and take some pointers by it's founder.

If one removes the underaged, felons and mentally challenged from the equation you'd find that the gun owner versus gun seizing crowds are equally matched. That's why there's no movement on this issue. If you were to investigate further you'd find that many of what you call the "gun control" crowd are really gun grabbers ignorant of the second amendment. Please see if youcan do something about that amendment. We'd like nothing better than an opportunity to create a new country.

It isn't the guns that shoot people!!!
It's idiots with guns that shoot people.

Reading some of the comments, I can see by the level civility, literacy, logic, and intelligence of the average NRA Member that it's a club of ignorant bumpkins with guns.

Since they are responsable for the loss of thousands of lives because of their promotion of "Gun Culture" insurance companies should raise the their premiums to pay for the costs insurance companies have to bear linked to "Gun Violence" .

Municipal, State and Federal governments should also raise the taxes of Gun Owners to pay for the costs society is burdened with that are linked to Gun Violence.

    Examples:
    -hospital and medical costs
    -property costs
-costs of police investigations into gun crimes
    -other related costs

The way things are now is that many taxpayers that do not own guns have to pay for these costs through there premiums and their taxes!!!

If you do not own a gun, why should you pay for the costs related to gun violence?????

Is this not the American way????

Hardly fair since the majority of murders are committed by those who shouldn't have weapons in the first place. The underaged, felons and mentally challenged. How about insurance to pay for all the people who go camping in forests and get lost or those who climb mountains and fall off? A recent fall here cost the state $100K to first find the person and then drag his body up the mountain. There are any number of examples of stupidity that are costing the general public.

      Denis Antoine,
Owning a gun is a right and a privilege, just as owning a car. Every individual who chose to own either must be responsible for their actions. I believe in our country's freedoms.
I believe in woman's rights and their choice to give birth. I also believe in the 2nd amendment rights. If you don't like your freedoms go join your friend Piers Morgan and go back to the UK. Americans freedoms are under attack constantly from abroad and with in this country from people that want to influence and control. The greatest number of gun owning Americans and NRA members fear mostly our loss of freedom. We may not agree with you on this topic but I'm sure that we would die to protect not only our freedoms but yours too.
Our forefathers would be rolling in their graves if they saw our divided government today. I am certain that the founding fathers would be appalled to see a country so great as ours show such ignorance and apathy toward the protection of American freedom.

really? Your last show and yo still want to tell Americans that we don't need guns? One of the biggest problems people have with piers is that you are a Britain try to tell Americans how we should live, then you get upset when we don't agree with you. Gun control will never work in America, never. It's that simple. There are over 300 million guns in the US. Also all the mass murders have been in gun free zones. Facts don't lie. You may not like guns, and that's fine. No one is forcing you to buy one but stop trying to restrict other Americans rights. If we ever did ban guns, what's next then? The 1st Amendment? If you say "oh the government would never do that", then I would tell you to pick up a history book.

I'm sorry to see Peers Morgan depart from CNN. I can imagine that his, just like Dan Rather's departure (firing) is due to disagreeing with the status quo – they both got the axe. Morgan's strong views on gun violence in the US, just hit the main nerve centre of the NRA and consequently the pocket book of the gun industry. Yes, Peers vas sometimes arrogant, but he was extremely knowledgable about a great number of subjects. He did his homework, he was passionate and stood his ground when confronted with hypocritical hot wash and baseless ignorance. especially in regard to the need for gun control laws in America. I applaud his courage and his fine disposition on his last show tonight. Thank you Mr. Morgan, it's been a pleasure knowing you. Many of us will miss you,so take care old chum...

Stock prices on Smith And Wesson and Sturm Ruger have doubled in the last two years. The firearms industry is hardly suffering. NICS checks were higher this past November and December than ever. I purchased three more guns last year and just purchased 2500 rounds of ammo last night for range practice. We're even having to import ammunition because it's difficult to keep it in stock in certain calibers. You need a better news source.

Every evening I looked forward to your show. You have done a great job and yes you are opiniated but with passion and concern especially with the gun control issue. You have done all you can and if Americans are intelligent enough they will make changes concerning this issue. You are ubsolutely correct to state that guns belong in the army and not in the hands of civilians. It is sad that so many lives have been lost especially innocent and vulnerable .children. Is this how America protects its self? Best wishes to your future endeavours I will greatly miss your show

You stand in the company of Lenin, Stalin, Hitler, Chavez, Castro, Putin, Mao, etc.
It's the thinking of people like you that have caused firearms and ammunition sales to climb. Perhaps it would be easier for you folks to follow Morgan back to England?

Morgan is clever, not intelligent. The former involves an alacrity with concepts, something fantasy writers of books and movie scripts do all the time. The latter requires grounding in fact. The difference is significant.

Piers Morgan is an outstanding interviewer, journalist, and an honest spokesperson. We have lost another person whose honesty and truthfulness has once again gotten him fired. Back to BANALITY......I guess you are just too good for the mediocrity that seems to exist in television viewing audiences.
I hope to see you again where you belong. In front of a camera speaking honestly and openly to people like me.

Piers, thanks for all the great interviews and for standing up for the victims in all these gun debates. No one else does, that's for sure. You always put emotions aside, unlike some of your guests. It's scary to even imagine guns in the hands of some of the guests I've seen on the show. They can't even handle a normal conversation, they get so worked up. How would they handle any confrontation? They seem unstable, even mob like at times. No solution, no real debate, no sympathy for all the children that were murdered. No sympathy at all. Just anger. It's not hard to figure out that the easier it is to get a hold of dangerous guns, the more of them will be out there, and the probability higher that they will be used on our streets. It only takes one bad person to use it in a bad way. That ought to be reason enough to debate this issue, at the very least. Taking a closer look at the gun laws in today's environment is a no-brainer. You asked all the right questions. Thanks for your courage. Will miss the show!

      LOL Nice rant.

      Here's the real "no-brainer."

How are all those "War on Drugs" laws working out, as stringent as any on the books with damning jail times, and applied equally by the federal and state governments across all 50 states (with only now just a few loosening up restrictions on marijuana)? Can't get coke, crack, heroin, or anything else anymore, huh?

When you find your intellectual honesty again, you'll realize Morgan was nothing more than an elitist hack with a TV show that got poor ratings because of his own stupidity and inability to grasp concepts that are evident to any clear thinking American. But don't take my word for it–just reflect on how the "War on Drugs" (or Prohibition, for that matter) has reduced access to those "things." Then, if you have the courage, revise your conclusions accordingly.

We'll welcome you with open arms to real freedom when you do. And guess what? We won't require you to carry a gun if you don't want to, either. We actually believe in freedom. Join us.

Actually, I don't. It's easy to be stubborn. Much more difficult, and more admirable in my opinion, to listen closely and examine all the facts in context, then change one's opinion. Morgan was never able to do that in his never-ending proselytizing for solutions that will not work in the United States. He is a lesser man for it and, more importantly, a lesser mind for it, too.

The U.S. wasn't up to the challenge of hearing what they need to hear. It must be tough to think that an advocate
against present gun laws should remain in a 'freedom of speech' country. Piers Morgan shot from the hip and not from his holster. Rah Raw for the former. I hope the person with the media savvy and clout will bring him and his immense talent back to the TV medium where he belongs.

Wrong. We were "up to the challenge" of elitists taking our freedoms in 1776 (while reserving more for themselves), just as the majority of us are still up to the challenge now to keep those freedoms. As you progressives like to claim about the ACA (and once did the same during Prohibition), judging by the SCOTUS decision with Heller in 2010, "it's settled law." Deal with it.

But don't tarry. Because as the challenge for "gay marriage licenses to be honored in all 50 states" (which I support, equal rights for all) makes its way to the SCOTUS for affirmation, so too then will the precedent be firmly set for "concealed carry licenses to be honored in all 50 states."

And BOTH would be real progress.

I don't think that Mr. Morgan's pet topics, nor "the NRA", is the reason for him losing his spot. In business, it is usually the bottom line, money, which, in the entertainment business, means ratings. That is all. Mr. Morgan presented himself in an abrasive, arrogant and contentious manner which many people tend to find unpleasant. That is why his ratings were low. While he may be wrong on guns, it was more the way he promoted his position than the position itself that was the problem. He simply misjudged the collective personality of his prospective audience, and how much unreasonable aggression the American public was willing to excuse.

American military are also civilians. You might as well say even the civilians who are able to are descendents of military and that pretty much makes all of us military.. Sooooo thats why there are background checks in America. Its up to the state or the country to be more strict about that. I believe hunting is a necessity in life when the going gets tough. I would like to buy my own meat, not from a grocery store from a hunting experience in my lifetime. It is on my bucket list. A nice venison, or some other kind wild boar, or something. Sad to see you go. Your interview with the NRA chief is a Classic. You went in the right direction and did as Winston Churchill – you just hammered him with your point. Guns are not the answer. I found it interesting that the NRA representative was actually laughing at you and totally untouched. When children are killed, there is no way to justify it with more guns as the NRA suggests. Piers Morgan devoted most of his farewell rant to gun control, stating that 35 Americans are murdered with guns each day, but as examples he showed the victims of the Aurora and Newtown shootings. Mr. Morgan, the vast bulk of the murder victims are not suburban whites victimized by insane young white male mass-murderers armed with automatic rifles. Half of the murder victims are young urban black males involved in drug gangs, armed with handguns. The source of the violence, as during Alcohol Prohibition, is the black market in illegal recreational drugs. After all this time, how could you not understand this? Your colleague Dr. Sanjay Gupta does.

Mr. Morgan ended his program with a well thought out goodbye. His was the last show I watched daily on CNN. By pointing out what was obvious to 88% of Americans. 70 people shot in a movie theater, followed by 26 children and teachers killed in an elementary school. Those 88% along with Mr. Morgan were in favor of enhanced background checks; he's right nothing was done about it. Every show that was specific to guns a banner stated the 2nd Amendment and he excluded guns for protection, hunting and sport. He, like many Americans are apposed to semi automatic weapons with magazines with extended clips. It was simply one programs point of view; he did not waiver under pressure, for this I respect him. It would have been easy after blow back to stop mentioning it. He did not. He stood to his opinion. I appreciated how he would directly take politicians on where American reporters did their usual coy ring around the rosie with their questions. Great celebrity interviews too.

Read her posturing, elitist invective closely and repeatedly until you fully get what so-called "progressives" want for everybody but themselves. He’s paid his dues, has shown he can be controversial, and handle it, he’s not a “foreigner”, he’s a member of a visible minority who is also openly gay, and he’s both charming and versatile.http://dcmontreal.wordpress.com/2014/03/29/exit-piers-morgan-enter-don-lemon/

Dear Piers, not sure if you're reading these posts....I happen to think you are one of the best interviewers on television. I was devastated to hear you were leaving. Your honesty and passionate views surpass your peers and those qualities are so rare today...here in America. You will be greatly missed! Hope to see you on some other network soon.

I'll greatly miss Piers Morgan. What an incredible and brave departing soliloquy. I thank him for standing up to what he truly believes in, airing the heart of his motives. I'll miss his wit and humour. Virtues of tenacity, courage, integrity and intelligence are admirable and utterly refreshing. I just solely hope to see a new vehicle in the not too distant future as his forum. Thank you Piers.

You're mistaking "intelligence" for "cleverness." The latter is an ability to reconnect concepts in novel, sometimes surprising ways; it's done all the time in fantasy. Intelligence, on the other hand, requires grounding in facts.

I respect your opinion for enjoying the entertainer, Morgan. As a commentator on important social issues, he was and remains an abject failure.

    Final thoughts on Piers Morgan,
Some advise: When you want to sell a message, please don't try and shove it down people's throats. Let Piers Morgan be an example of how not to persuade people that don't agree with you. I am surprised that he was on air as long as he was with his non-conforming and arrogant ways.

I will miss his views. The arrogance comes from the narrow minded americans unable to see the misuse of guns, and therefore the thousands of gun related deaths. Not about our freedoms, its about acknowledgement of abuses and deaths directly related to this freedom. Remove your blinders, admit some changes need to be taken. Its not about Piers's views, Americans have become very complacent, blinded to the truth. Good luck Piers, I found you insightful and able to discuss issues, we Americans shun.

Can't say I will miss him- just can't. Piers mentions 100k gun related deaths .
    How about these stats-
Based on available state-level data, an estimated 1.04 million abortions took place in 2012—down from an estimated 1.16 million abortions in 2009 and 1.13 million abortions in 2010.

    http://www.guttmacher.org/pubs/fb_induced_abortion.html

Why is Pierce so focused on guns? Why is he not outraged over the deaths of innocents?
Such an irony, a Brit coming here to lecture us about gun control, that is why we left in the first place.
Piers is really angry about 1776 and how that gun controlled act failed then and it will fail now.

Even a casual review of who's posting what on this blog will reveal an interesting pattern. Figure it out for yourself, it's as plain as day. Time to take the country back, men, from those who put "safety" above everything else. We'll protect them, of course, because that's what men should do but as social policy the balance point has gone way too far in coddling to the fears of the cowards in the United States, judging from the posts here.

Besides, the underlying problem began in the mid-60's when the Democrat Johnson pushed legislation that has destroyed the family. Don't believe me? Check the rates of black single-parent families in 1965 compared with today, then tell me that children growing up without a father are equal in positive social principles to those who do.

More guns are now owned by law abiding citizens then in any other time in history in this country...and violent crimes are declining !!..this includes gun crime Guns save the lives of the innocent period, In over 2 million times a year a gun is used by a law abiding citizen in preventing a violent crime..with much of the time without a shot being fired....More people are killed in this country with hammers and blunt objects then with all long guns including what is wrongly called assault rifles.( modern semi automatic sporting rifles Morgan's favorite target)..Because of the liberal media, these facts are not widely known..and instead liberal propaganda is in abundance..and judging by your posting along with others, it appears that you have swallowed this propaganda hook line and sinker...But it's not your fault ...you just don't know any better. What I do give you a positive on is that you unlike another couple of individuals is that you never said, there are no examples of gun owners getting harmed with their own guns by those criminals confronting them. This is just as incorrect as 2 million successfully using their guns a year for their and their family's protection. Please post some of your sources so I can study them.

        C. Miller..........Look... in all respect, you don't know what you're talking about.when it comes to. gun control.if you are buying in on what Morgan is spewing...Morgan has deliberately distorted the facts about gun control over and over because he has an agenda ..When confronted with the true facts by some of his guest who are "in the know" like John Lott for example Morgan was rude and insulting because he could not refute the truth...By far the most gun violence being done in this country is by criminal thugs shooting other thugs with illegal handguns...this fact was rarely even mentioned by Morgan or the liberal media for that matter. If you are truly interested in knowing the truth then you might find it interesting in doing some research on this matter and not believing in anti gun propaganda, that is flooding the liberal media....Morgan was fired because of his dismal ratings and that was largely.because of his anti gun agenda..and this is by Morgan's own admission...The NRA had absolutely nothing to do with Morgan being fired.that is ridiculous..The American people just didn't want to see or listen to Morgan's BS period.

In all due respect back to you, I am safe where I live.  I do believe that if people weren't allowed to buy guns at a gun store so easily then that would cut down on all the shootings in the U.S. Gun stores are as plentiful as candy stores and you don't see anything wrong with that? Piers was about awareness.  Does everything have to be 'black and white' with Americans? If Piers wasn't a Brit would you be giving him this hard a time? He wanted to expound on different ways to avoid movie theater and school shootings which are prevalent.  How safe do you feel even with your gun?  He wanted to try to change things for the better.  It's so easy to slam someone who is trying to make a change who's against the big nra boys who weren't interested in any conflict of the archaic gun laws.

Morgan kept spewing on about semi automatic rifles what the LEFT incorrectly calls assault rifles...they are not.assault rifles, that is a liberal propaganda term..they are semi automatic sporting rifles and there are 10's of millions of them in circulation...According to the FBI more people are killed each year with hammer's then with any rifle or shotgun..here are some interesting facts that blows a hole in Morgan's anti gun agenda http://www.ammoland.com/2013/05/the-gun-control-lie/#axzz2TwEu9wqK and

Sad to hear your leaving CNN Piers. I enjoyed your show and the honesty surrounding gun violence in America. I have guns in my home and hunt waterfowl and big game every year. Canadians share the love hunting as do our American friends to the south yet Canada has much stricter gun control. The laws we have are common sense and haven't affected my love for the sport. Let's get real – you don't need an assault rifle with a 25 shot clip to hunt deer??Gun violence is no where near what it is in the States. Maybe our American friends can learn from us or the Swiss? C. Again the most gun violence in this country is being done by criminal punks shooting other thugs with ILLEGAL handguns,,,In fact in the last 24 hours Chicago has had 12 people who have been shot..1 every two hours..This is where the focus should be, and not infringing on the rights of the law abiding citizens.

Piers, your sincerity and compassion is felt for one of the many imbalances that exist within the human condition. To accept this truth is not easy. Change happens slowly sometimes quickly. Unfortunately at times the price is very painful. The highest price being the death of one's own child. For there is no greater pain than this. Power and righteousness are not reasonable justifications. We as a society are responsible. We allow and accept. Both sides are right. Oddly enough. So then how do we protect ourselves, our children and our families from harm? is it possible? Do some just drown swimming across the ocean of life? Should we each be given a weapon on entering high school? Or do we create another law and put more people in prison for breaking the law? The final question: How sacred really is a human life and to what limit do we go to protect life itself?

Funny thing about a talk show host – they aren't supposed to tell it, are they? They are supposed to bring guests on so the guests can tell it. That was Pierce Morgan's biggest failure – a misunderstanding of the nature of his job. And when you don't understand your job, is it any surprise you can't do it effectively?

What he failed to say is, that most of the daily gun murders take place in the biggest cities with the strictest gun control laws in the country, and most are committed by people that are felons, and shouldn't have guns to begin with. Stricter gun control only leads to more crime, because the bad guys don't follow laws, and damned sure won't give up their guns. Drugs are illegal, and how has that worked out? How would the retard Piers Morgan explain an unarmed populace being beset with more crimes, if he had his way with gun control? It's obvious that many anti-gun people don't think ahead. Guns are illegal in Great Britain, but that hasn't stopped the criminals. Stabbings, and beatings have sky rocketed. Oh well, stupid is as stupid does, and Piers is dumber than a sack of hammers.

Celine, it's obvious that Piers is a retard. Anyone thinking that they can come into this country, and spout off their opinions without upsetting anyone, or getting a real fight in return, is retarded. If you anti-gun people don't like the laws in this country, then feel free to move to Cuba, China, Great Britain, or some other anti-gun country that fits your agenda. Piers was not a US citizen, so he has no right to try to change our rights, or argue for, or against them. Just don't forget that if it wasn't for guns, we would not have this country, or the rights we do. This country was fought for with guns, and that's the only way to defend it, and protect ourselves.

David, you are absolutely right!! If it weren't for guns, you wouldn't have been able to claim yourself as an American citizen:) it was by mass killing of native Americans with guns that you were able to claim this land as yours. Just keep in mind that more guns equal more deaths.

And you think that disarming law abiding citizens will cut down on gun crimes? It will only make their victims easier to rob, beat, or kill. That's the kind of thinking, or lack of that has caused many of the problems in this country. Like I said earlier, if you don't like our rights in the USA, you are free to leave, and if you don't live in the USA legally, then you have no right to speak against our rights. Nuff said.

I think I will stay, descendant from 14 generations and as a US Army veteran I think I earned it. And yes, taking guns away from ALL will curb the violence, such as the violence caused by "legally" obtained AK47'S used to murder innocent children because some gun loving narcissist had a bad day. The same AK47's kept legal so little boys like you can compensate for shortcomings in other areas and feel like a big man. Same old excuse from the minority, corrupt, self serving NRA, you need a new speech this one is getting old. Laws are made to be updated and it is coming. And Pers, having earned his place, and as a man of conscience has a right to speak the truth regardless of where he is born.

There is no such thing as gun violence. Its people violence. People kill people its has happened since Cain killed Abel. Guns are harmless unless a person pulls the trigger. Same as the Suv's Suv's dont kill people. People kill people. Gun owners lock up your guns, train your kids how to use a gun, teach your kids right from wrong, dont do drugs.

You are so far behind the 8 ball that explaining what Piers Morgan set out to do would be a waste of time. Piers tried to save lives and to enlighten people. Why is something so simple so hard to understand? The NRA is a very big untamed & well pawed pit bull...would you succeed in fighting that dog? Why should Piers take flack when he should be thanked for at least trying his best to make a small niche in that metal collar.

I truly liked Piers Morgans show. He is smart and has good political points.  However his kick on gun control completely turned me away from his show and him. Gun laws will not help anything and will just make things worse, and make law bidding more at risk.  You dont have to be a hunter to love guns. I dont hunt because i feel horrible when i kill an animal unless i was starving.  However i do own guns and they are all guns that he thinks should be banned.  I have a tactical shotgun for home defense. I have a Ar15 ,they are a great choice of a home defense weapon for my wife. It has very little recoil and very easy to control and shoot accurately.  As far as magazine capacity, yes you do need 30 rounds.  I want the advantage.  Its not easy to shoot accurately in a high stress situation, and there may be more than one person.  I also have a glock handgun with a 15 round magazine that i carry daily.  The way the world is today , you are just a sitting duck in a world filled with crime if you dont arm yourself and your family. These weapons are not only good for home defense. If things ever hit the fan in this country or in your area for one reason or another, i would not want to be the fool with no weapons and ammo. Gun control solves nothing. Its your right to own a firearm, take advantage of it.  I am 32 years old , married , with one child.

There is no logic to your thinking. Hoping nobody breaks into your home with a gun. Does this mean you really think that someone that would do that, would actually give up their gun(s), if more laws were passed? It's my understanding that criminals do not follow laws, hence why they are criminals to begin with. If someone were to break into your home with a gun, what are the first two things you would do? Most likely call someone with a gun, the police, and pray that they get there on time. Wake up. I live in a smaller town, but police response times are at least 5-10 minutes to my house. Is that fast enough if someone breaks into my house with a gun? Heck no. We don't need anymore gun control than we already have. Gun control equals people control, and I guess that's what every liberal fool wants.

Perhaps you have heard this out of Oklahoma? An 18 year old with a 3 month old baby called 911 to report two men she knew were drug dealers were hanging around her home. It was Dec. 31, 2011. The dispatcher couldn't find a policeman to come to her home. The woman asked if she had the right to shoot the guys if they came in byut the dispatcher saidd she couldn't tell her that. Of course she could! it's her right to protect herself. At 21 minutes after she called 911 she retreated to her bedroom with her husband's shotgun and pistol. Where's her husband? He died of lung cancer on Christmas Day. That's why the dealers are at her house. They think there might still be morphine there. Anyway, one guy breaks in holding a 12 inch hunting knife. She kills him with one shot from the shotgun. When the police show up 32 minutes after the call the other guy is outside waiting because the keys to the car in in the dead guy's pocket.
This is why we have guns!

The funny thing about the story you just told is, our liberal media won't report stories like that one, because it doesn't fit the liberal agenda. It would be interesting to see how many times per day that guns save lives, compared to how many are used in illegal ways. I'm sure that's a set of figures we will never see reported, because the good would, and does out weigh the bad.

If a host from any country steps up to the american plate to express his or her views (which Amendment is that praytell?) then the Show probably won't succeed. Well, you sound like you're so smarter than me, so, why don't you go to another country, say the Ukraine, or Russia and see how tolerant they are of your ideas on how they should live and conduct their lives. Try telling their citizens how bad things are over there and what they should be doing to correct it. I'd like to see and hear how well that works for you. So what? Hundreds of folks quit their jobs every day – and this is hardly newsworthy, especially given that Mr. Morgan was undoubtedly manyfold overpaid. Whats sad is that outlet like Chicken Noodle News continue to build that occult persona cult around their 'anchors' – a leftover of yesteryear, when technology actually required to give some airtime to some noggin reading 'news' off a teleprompter. Morgan does now, and hopefully many will follow, walk the path of obsolescence – as the internet does not need overpaid, self-obsessed celebrities by their own definition to report on who burped when. Now, the only other primetime noggin that someone should please make call it quits is this Kent Brockman parody, Anderson Cooper. I am really glad I don't watch TV. What a 'dufus'. When I tune in to CNN – the old Larry King show and then Pier Morgan, it isn't to hear one person such as Piers get on the proverbial 'soap box' fixated on one topic ad nauseum. It isn't that the subject matter isn't important, but we need to keep a balance. Maybe Piers was working for the psychiatric/psychological profession to drive us viewers crazy and drum up business – because that is what it got to be from Piers as evidenced by his 'going out' tirade that took up most of his 'good bye'. Imagine how many viewers who aren't responsible for the gun problems and aren't gun holders had to suffer listening as if responsible. I feel relieved for my mental sanity to not have to

Piers didn't choose gun control laws to discuss as often as he did I believe it became a mission when the senseless shootings were recurring on his watch. Sorry Piers, you were not successful in this country because we do not like being lectured by a stiff-ass Brit about how wonderful your country is and how screwed up America is, in your opinion. Let us talk character: America kicked England's ass in two wars then turned around and saved your ass in two others. The issue of guns is not just about control and eliminating guns but about mental health and the social fabric of society. A better analogy is with Switzerland who, after America, has the most guns per capita and a much lower murder rate. The reason is really quite simple. They didn't have a Reagan to dismantle the mental health system of their country as he did here. Military service is (or was) mandatory in Switzerland and they have universal health care and a much stronger social fabric. For America to turn this mass shooting nonsense around those social issues must be dealt with first. People without help will just find another tool to kill with if that is their predisposition. Good luck and good night.

I don't believe anyone needs a history lesson. Piers made a difference in enlightening americans on what was going on and he was fair in interviewing folks from the NRA along with parents of children who were senselessly shot down. You have to look at both sides. The reality is that gun stores sell guns and guns kill. If folks kept them properly secured and locked in their homes then maybe there'd be less killings. Maybe then Piers would have covered other topics and his show would still be on the air. Accents and birth country don't make the man...only the ignorant dwells on those things. You could learn a lot from the perspectives and cultures of other countries. Be open minded!

So help me understand here. If a woman likes something a man says, it is not ever due to the fact she might have a mind and know how to think and reason? Seems like you have some growing of your own to end up in this century. My eye sight is very poor, so I guess that your simplistic reasoning can't apply to me. I did agree with the words and statistics and logic that I heard, of which I never heard from the others, at least from the many sources I was able to research (i.e. having people read them to me or magnifying the page by 300% which you can not do on a television.) How are you qualified to speak for "most Americans"? Or how are you better qualified to speak for "most Americans" than a gun rights owner, when a Gallup poll of October 2013 showed 74% of Americans surveyed believe possession of handguns should NOT be limited to the police and other authorized persons.

New York (CNN) – An apparent dispute over housing ended with an 86-year-old New York man shooting his grandson and killing his grandson's girlfriend before fatally shooting himself, a law enforcement source said Saturday.
If it wasn't for the gun he owns, this 86-year-old man, a law-abiding citizen, wouldn't have killed his grandson over a dispute!!! A gun is an killing machine and doesn't give the victim a chance to defend himself.... Wake up America!!!!

But it wasn't right. And, worse, the way he did it wasn't right either. We do not live in a dictatorship. We live in a democracy, where the majority votes and decides. Had he fostered discussion where a more informed majority decision might have been made, he might have been more successful. But no, he demanded that people agree with him. Good riddance.

Is that the kind of respect you show those who care about you? If Piers Morgan weren't passionate about this issue, he would have selected other controversial topics to discuss. The only mistake he made is that he wasted his time addressing an important issue to the ignorant majority. He should have encouraged everyone to carry a weapon in hopes of obliterating ignorance. For those who are pro-guns, don't ever grieve or complain when a mass shooting occurs in your community, in your school, in your neighborhood, at work, at the mall or in movie theaters where you and your kids go. Alas, the human race is doomed to self-destruction by weapons we invented!!! God bless Piers and anyone who dares to save humanity!

Congratulations to a really brave Piers Morgan. His simple, however brave statement about the things in America he will never come to terms with, are shared by many Americans who unfortunately lack their representatives' bravery to tackle the issue. Some simple-minded citizens, or politicians for that matter, would argue that all doors work both ways or that "take it or leave it" applies to those who complain about gun control issues. Maybe Morgan's accent unnerved some people. His good-byevstatement surely gives a lot more Americans some hope for the future.

Was he a good interviewer? I don't think so. He pandered to guests who shared his views, simpered over celebrities, but rarely, if ever, gave those whose opinions differed from his a genuine opportunity to complete a thought, much less express a view. His interview with Ben Shapiro revealed how unprepared he was for a guest who was prepared to engage him on his own terms; his interview with Chelsea Handler revealed how self centered he was – a fatal flaw, it would seem, for someone whose job is to engage a guest on his show. And I would have less disdain for him had he shown less disdain for guests who opposed his views – which one was it he accused of being "an incredibly stupid man" on air?

It is a shame, because I suspect that, had he given it half an effort, he could have been a very good interviewer, perhaps a true heir to the seat and the time slot of the great Larry King. But his ego, his "my way or the highway", and his self righteous nature were insurmountable obstacles on his path to success, obstacles that detoured him onto the road to cancellation.

I believe CNN can do much better.

I didn't see the interveiw with Ben Shapiro but quickly became an ex-fan of Chelsea Handler. I thought she handled herself rudely on his Show and I was quite disgusted. This was not her Show and there was no need to spout off insults most likely to promote her book. I bought all her books and never missed any Chelsea Lately shows but will no longer talk or write about how funny or amazing I thought she was. Jimmy Fallon, Alex Trebec and others won't touch controversy but if you like that, then it's there for you. I like controversial people who do not suffer fools lightly even when the ON AIR light is on. I beg to differ with you. Piers' timing with a guest that ligitimately had something interesting to say was almost limitedless...he was never boring and it seems as if you too were a viewer. Why were you a viewer if you found him rude? You certainly could have watched something else but you seem to know a lot about the Show.

    Three Cheers for Piers Morgan.

I loved his stand against NRA. I wish more people can see the sense in it and stood up against this lobby which seeks to enrich its coffers at the cost of peoples blood and who have hijacked and bought the thinking of innocent and naive Citizens through non misleading slogans. There is no place for Guns (especially Assault weapons) in a civilized society where Law and Order is effective. I shudder to think how many gruesome incidents will it take to change our mentality on this subject and destruction that can be wrought by lunatics and terrorists. How much are we willing to surround our schools, hospitals, malls, public parks, streets by machine gun toting security guards to protect ourselves against lunatics and terrorists. Are we foolish enough to be filling in NRA's coffers while let our lives gradually get dominated by guns and paranoia.

We as Americans should be willing to learn from other Civilized nations where the community and the country as a whole can see the obvious fact that weapons of destruction belong in the hands of qualified, MATURE, morally upright and authorized law keepers or in the battle field and not in closets in houses with toddlers in them. We should not be shy to adopt principles and ways of other societies when they have taken lead and found better ways to do things be it weapons control or healthcare. There is nothing wrong in admitting that the second amendment is outdated (belonging to 19th century) and at the very least requires an amendment itself in controlling assault weapons from reaching our homes.

An obstinacy to admit that other societies can do certain things better and that we can adopt those practices is really foolish, impractical and untenable in today's Global society. We have to realize that there is a bigger world out there with a bigger population than our countries and that it could be very possible that they will find newer things, better laws and newer ways to philosophize those thoughts. There are huge populations in China, India which are eager and ready to do whatever it takes to make a difference to themselves and to improve everyone's lives.

After all being open minded, objective and fair is as an american trait as is our leave for freedom and pursuit of happiness. We should not let certain feelings of insecurity caused due to Globalization and emergence of other powers cloud and overshadow this beautiful quality of ours. That would open the doors for us prospering and developing healthy symbiotic relations with other fast upcoming countries.

Also everyone needs to join him in praising and blessing Great Britain along with USA. This ally of US has been supportive of US through the thick and thin and has supported US ideals and policies and shared sacrifices. We should realize that aside from Colonialism (which is the only people identify England with), Great Britain has and continue to provide huge contributions to the progress of mankind. From giant scientists like Newton and Maxwell who paved way for American Scientists to current contributors like Tim Berners-Lee and also enriching our lives and thought with English Literature.

    Good Luck to Piers Morgan.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and sticking with them. The thoughts you presented need to be as in-your-face as possible from as many people as possible, no matter where they come from. Our gun laws are crazy, and we suffer because as a result. It's very valuable to get commentaries like this from those who come from outside the U.S. Your commentary was respectful, reasonable and caring. It was not meant as a put-down to our country or culture. What more could we want? Thanks again.

Yep, glad to see him go. For one, he let his personal feelings get in the way of the news. He bellowed about banning assault rifles until the mental cases started using shotguns. I am not a hunter but took up skeet shooting once I became too old and arthritic to play tennis. To advocate that I give up my right to shoot skeet because some mental case decides to put down his violent video game and grab a shotgun from his disengaged and wreckless parent's unlocked closet to go shoot somebody is not only offensive but a complete denial of the facts. It goes beyond the guns though. Like someone here said so well, he couldn't properly do his job. Maybe he will be replaced with a real news reporter that doesn't use his air time to push his agendas.

This quote, "The gun lobby in America, led by the NRA, has bullied this nation’s politicians into cowardly, supine silence." is a joke.

If he would have looked into the American political system he might find that the People are to run this Country through there Politicians not buy them. His home Country told the people to give up their guns and is now rampant with increasing violent crime as ours is decreasing.
If he was a real journalist and so concerned about gun violence he should have reported about California state senator Leland Yee (D), charged with Firearm Trafficking Charges. But he didn’t because he’s the same type of puppet for the Far Left that he accuses the NRA of being for the Right.

It is time for Americans to wake up and see what death and destruction our lack of Firearms respect and limitations will continue to plague our society until what??? until we grow extinct? I can only imagine as those that survive will question our demise as they did the dinosaurs: What happened to America? At the present rate we will wind up like the Middle East with no respect for any living thing, not even our own. I applaud Piers and his persistence in bringing facts to the American viewers about the number of adults and children murdered with weapons in our beloved country. Why do losers criticize people who might have different ideas than they do? Piers Morgan Tonight was an opinionated, clever show for people who used their BRAINS to think about relevan issues, and not their ASS to express themself.

No, it was obnoxious and overbearing. The host was rude to people who didn't agree with him. There was no give-and-take of ideas, no possibility he could have been wrong. A talk show is about that – talk – and talk is best fostered, is most needed when opinions are opposed. Piers did not create that. He was a waste of a good time slot, as his ratings demonstrated.

        Good riddance.

I disagree with Mr. Morgan. Civilians need guns. This country would not exist had the founding fathers not have guns! Mr. Morgan noted how many people died from civilians with guns, but he failed to note how many civilians were saved by civilian gun ownership.

Until the gun control issue put a spell on Piers, his show was fantastic. His first show when he had Howard Stern
on was an acid test for him which I feel he handled with flying colors. Let's be fair to Piers; he is an outstanding interviewer and is a pleasant guy to watch and listen to on the tube. His only fault I feel was that he just would not let go of the gun control issue whereby he got a bit tedious and boring. Still sad he has left CNN. I am sure we will see much more of him soon and hopefully he does not bring his guns to town !!

Dear CNN....... you made a big mistake letting Piers go. @Piers..... you were a wise and common sense individual and I respected your thought process and way of thinking which you and I will see one day will evolve to be the right thought process when it comes to the subject of guns. Piers.... the great thing about humans as they evolve.... the old and the inferior (ie: idiots) will eventually die off and leave smarter wiser humans to ensure the survival of our species. There is no need for the killing machines that are on our streets and one day these individuals will become extinct and smarter minds will prevail. We sadly may not live to see it but we should not stop fighting to protect our survival Piers........ I hope to see you on the airwaves again as I appreciate a person that does not spin and dance circles in order to avoid the bare bones truths of things wrong in our society. You are almost always on the money Piers unlike bird brains like Hannity and so on.... Get back on TV soon please... the world needs you...

What a shame to let Piers Morgan go! And I'm sure the reason is because of his outspoken criticism of the gun laws in our country, America. I applaud his courage to stand up at CNN and continuously hammer away at the madness and destruction of no gun control and what it's doing to our country. He knew it would be dangerous. But he had the integrity to pursue it because it is the right thing to do. That's a definition of a true hero. Willing to sacrifice himself for a just cause. I continue daily to miss your show which I watched every night after work. I no longer even turn CNN on now and the only person I do watch there is Anderson Cooper when I do had a chance. CNN fell from my graces after they let you go and I have looked for you to have perhaps come elsewhere on another television channel. But I see here we don't have the courage to allow good television with someone who can make us think, show us how to view someone with and from another angle, give us a kick in the pantsonce in a while also!!

All these months after your departure I as yet have not found anything to equal your show or interviews! I continue to miss your charm and wit, and clever thoughts.....we should be ashamed to have thought we were above you in your thoughts and form of expression, especially when we here tout...." We are a democracy and also have freedom of speech" we failed you miserably! I wish you nothing but the very best! You clearly were my bright star of the day! Fear not you lost, for me you clearly won!

An avid listener and devoted fan!! Continue being yourself!!! May you rise again!

You were completely right on about guns in America, but, probabky because you were so passionate about the subject, you have a tendency to sharply cut off yor interviewees, and that hurt the cause more than helped it.

After his latest on Monica Lewinsky, he can't go quickly enough:

"It wasn't the Internet that shamed you, Monica; it was your predilection, like Bill Clinton's, for illicit cigar-fuelled lust in the world's most powerful room," Give me a damn break. This was a 22-year old girl, who by virtue of her AGE (if for no other reason ... but how about some general insight into what is so clearly her personality) had no damn idea about the illicit search for lust or power. It never ends, does it? If Bill Clinton shared the lion's share here because he was older and more experienced, how about you write about him and leave this woman alone – something she deserved from you media sorts a VERY long time ago.

I think CNN has lost a good journalist. Being Canadian I agree there should be gun control and every person should not carry guns. We don't have all the shootings up here because we cannot carry them here and if you own one it must be registered. Too own a gun you must pass a police check plus take courses.

In this regard he was a stand up guy and I don't see any other news personalities with such courage in confronting the NRA and gun advocates. I guess the killing will continue. So sad to see news of innocent victims while Congress and the Senate sit on their hands in fear of the NRA. I am disgusted and "I AM A GUN OWNER". I favor a National gun registry and I would register all of my guns tomorrow.

First off, who really cares if this Brit goes back to Britain? The only people who think its great are the ones who read the travel publications which don't tell what an awful place it really is.
Fact is that most of you "journalists" are overblown with your opinions and need for self congratulations. Come on, your salary should be more than enough of a reward for what little you really do.
His logic about gun policy is flawed. More people are killed yearly by hospitals and doctors than guns. Where is the outrage? Why aren't they even prosecuting doctors and hospitals? There is where the money has our legislators cowering in a corner.

Great work Piers – demonize law-abiding citizens who chose to exercise their 2nd Amendment Right to protect themselves and offer no solutions on taking guns away from criminals who are breaking the law. Just remember...when seconds count, the police are just minutes away. Sorry to see Piers Morgan go. I thought he was a perfect replacement for Larry King. He's younger, very entertaining, has the European charm. I followed his entire run on a regular basis as I did with Larry King. And I completely agree with his stance on automatic weapons. Unfortunately there is a vast pool of ignorance in this country. And the Republicans with their deep pockets have capitalized on that ignorance, and they know how to push their buttons. They now have bought and paid for the republicans in congress. So when the issues concerning guns come up they just write legislation for the Republicans to pass, like allowing machine gun knock-offs to be made under the guise of the second amendment. And when people put up a fuss such as two dozen four year olds being slaughtered at school the republicans just march out every waco wing-nut to cry second-amendment. Their still sore they lost the civil war for cry-n out-loud! My dad (a corporate Republican) was born Canada where they have a safe and sane approach to guns. There are for hunting as a sport not an extension of a man's libido or patriotism either. When they finish hunting they disassemble them and put them in a leather case in the closet. Unfortunately in this country guns are worshiped like a "false-God". When our right to "VOTE" is taken away, then we have something to worry about! I live in Los Angeles a city with 70,000 armed gang members, and I feel perfectly safe not carring a gun.

This is the best decision that CNN made and I will now start to watch their programs again. I have been refusing to purchase any item from an advertiser on CNN while Mr Morgan had his show. He is reporter, not an expert, and he used his reporter position as a bully pulpit to express his personal views. This is not what I would look to CNN to provide: fair and balanced reporting. His position on many issues, including his strong opposition to the right to bear arms, was offensive. He is not a quality interviewer and did not enhance the audience's understanding of current events.

AC, your assertions are quite generalized and, to be frank, rude. My distaste of Piers Morgan's view toward gun ownership has nothing to do with being a gun-toting NRA-backing redneck. For the record, I'm a left-wing independent who owns 0 guns and doesn't like the bullying that the NRA does any more than you do. My biggest problem with gun control lobbyists in this country is that they assume that people will actually follow a gun control law that is set up. Did you know that, after the nationwide assault weapons ban ended in 2004, that Connecticut adopted the ban as law with no sunset clause, and that the weapon Lanza used to kill those children and teachers was illegal by those standards? Did you know that Seung-hui Cho was diagnosed with manic depression three months before the Virginia Tech shooting, which is an automatic red flag on background checks, but he chose to stop seeing his therapist and passed the background check with flying colors? But no, let's throw a law at these criminals, that'll stop them. Because bans have worked so well in the past. We all know that no one drank during Prohibition, and no one outside of Colorado and Washington smokes pot. This isn't Dora the Explorer, we can't tell criminals to stop committing crime and expect it to work.

It's not about getting rid of guns. In my opinion, the best band-aid for our broken gun legislation is stronger background check laws and smarter parents who learn to lock their gun cabinets OR keep them hidden from view OR teach their children gun safety.

If he is so concerned with the welfare of the people, then I think he needs to take on tobacco companies and alcohol companies. Tobacco related deaths and alcohol related deaths are far greater than deaths related to guns. If we should make guns illegal to have then we should do the same with all tobacco products and alcohol. You can't tell me that a drunk driving accident that kills a whole family is not as bad as a random gun violence? Or the smoke from tobacco products that makes children (born or unborn) sick or adults who have illnesses that our insurance companies have to cover and cost the rest of us who do not smoke or drink higher rates. If you are going to pick the social ills, then you better get them all.....

This goes on all over the country. Here in Charlotte we had two carloads of kids in a runing gun battle on the main drag into the city. One was killed. After four years they were eventually charged with "firing into an occupied vehicle". Nothing about gun possesion by minors. All had previous records. In another a 16 year old was arrested in May with a gun and sent home to his Grandmother. In july he killed a 12 year old with another gun. Or the National Honor Roll student, a Black teen at at Christian school was shot six times by a 17 year old because he felt "dissed". The 17 year old was a dropout with a previous record of firearms possession. All of the above persons were Black including the victims. By all means let's make it harder for honest law abiding citizens to own a gun while dismissing charges against these thugs constantly.

Why don't you invest a secure alarm system for your home? Why is the subject only guns. This is a different world than when the Second Amendment was written. The whole idea is not to own more guns but to downsize and become
responsible. Children die from improperly locked up guns, the elderly are robbed, domestic violence deaths, etc. Guns, guns, guns...can americans not just try a different way? No because the loss in big gun $$ would be jeopardized. It's all about money honey.

Don, Piers, nor any other nor gun control proponents ws you to turn in your guns. The vast majority just want more detailed and stronger background checks. What do those that are against what almost 90% of Americans support hiding? I know that alone won't stop the gun violence, but it's a start.

I find it interesting to watch how hosts like Jimmy Fallon and Jay Leno, and even Alex Trebek on Jeopardy engage with their guests when the camera is off, to get to know them better, to make them better hosts...Chelsea Handler ripped Piers a new one on the air for his lack of interest in his guests...and even worse for being so rude as to say so while on the air!

I am happy to have a constructive discussion with people whose opinions differ from mine. It seems Piers Morgan was unwilling to do the same. We aren't taking away his right to free speech – he lost his TV show when he couldn't do his job right. He still has his right to free speech like the rest of us who don't have TV shows.

And whom was it Piers called "an incredibly stupid man" on air, and who is the intolerant one in that instance?

I feel the same.  They are going to probably fill that time slot with someone who is too sugary sweet. It won't be the same without Piers.

You people who are glad to see Piers Morgan go had to have watched his Show more than once, or how would you know that you didn't like him? There are so many shows that I have never watched so could not provide a strong opinion either way. It's like you're all 'leaving home for the first time' and it's "good riddance" to your parents. Those who are so detailed on Pier's shortcomings appear to be his most loyal fans and critics. He was a personality who will be sorely missed and replaced by some 'yes' man who will be as boring as hell. Is that what you prefer?

Perfect time for Piers, there's an opening for a buffoon to replace Letterman.

Then again, Mooochelle has great ratings for hosting and twerking in the media.

I wonder if you'd accept a dream job in another country that you're perfectly qualified for and pays well. How would you feel if you had to receive flack from the folks in that Country because of your accent and/or advocating the first amendment? What do I think of you. You're closed minded, ill educated and should be ashamed of yourself for your low class comment.

It isn't because of his accent. I like the Beatles, U2, Patrick Stewart and the kids from Harry Potter. It's not even because he was against the second amendment – he has the right to stand against whatever he wants, however misguided I might think it. It is because he was unwilling to allow others the same courtesy of their own opinions, and was prepared to belittle, to subject to ridicule, indeed to abuse "guests" he'd invited onto his show who dared have an opinion different than his.

If you cannot see that, then there are none so blind that will not see.

I am also a Canadian and totally disagree with you, a few years ago I had a drug crazed person break into my house. If it was not for the sound of a pump action shot gun my family and I would have been seriously injured or worse.Piers Morgan is a pompus ass who thinks he is smarter and better than his guests, if he has a problem with gun control he should have stayed in his own country, OH YAH they do not want the phone tapper, computer hacker there either.

You don't have the gang problems that we have here in the US. Also, most of our gun violence occurs in places that ban firearms. If you go to most of the midwestern states where concealed carry is allowed, we have very low crime rates. The people with concealed carry permits actually have a lower rate of committing crimes than police officers.

The ones who broke into your home, if they had an AK 47 you and your family would have been toast, wiped out.

Is Piers Morgan the only one who can see that gun control is sanity?

Totally agree with Ann Vitale I might add Fareed Zakaria , Candy Crowley and Sanjay GUpta to Anderson Cooper and Richard Quest to the best journalist remaining in CNN. Piers was straight forward on issues and it is a shame that he is gone! I did not always agreed with him but I commend him for standing up on Gun Control ..

Calling out to all you people with negative comments such as the one I am responding to...Piers Morgan deserves better fans than any of you. You couldn't keep up with him in conversation if your life depended on it. Good or bad at least you watched and just maybe you actually learned to lock up your far too many guns. The east coast 9:00 p.m. time slot for Mr. Morgan is already so very boring. Jake Tapper is probably a very nice guy but not the right replacement for Piers not to mention Mr. Bourdain and his eating escapades. Oh, how I miss Piers.

Mille , Tina not watching the show are you just trying to exasperating exaggerate things for your own personal gain? I watch the show many times and Pierce is not asking Americans or Canadians to hand in their guns. Yes no problem with hunting rifles. He has no problem with guns used to go out and hunt for game. He does have a big problem with assault military style killing weapons and huge capacity clips. Maybe you should go try and watch some reruns of the show so you can get your head together and know your facts.

We will miss Piers Morgan immensely. What kind of mentality are we dealing with when you say "he should go back from where he came". America as well as Canada was built on the blood, sweat and tears of immigrants who where given the opportunity to work and put food on the table and a roof over the heads of their family. My parents were one of those and we are living in countries that allow us freedom of speech, the right to vote, etc. Maybe there is too much of the good life. We listen to BBC, DW T.V., and hopefully Fareed Zakaria, Christine Amapour and Anderson Cooper will still be CNN contributors.

I skimmed comments and liked yours. When Piers stood his ground on gun control, my respect for him went significantly higher. It may be unfair to comment here since I live in the country above. I remember once chatting with a friend until 11pm and saying I wanted to go for a walk. He could not understand that...so sad.
