"I couldn't help but noticing, I feel like you're slightly trimmer Governor," suggested Piers.

"I'm working on it," came Christie's reply. "We don't take any victory laps in this battle, Piers. I've been going through it for twenty plus years."

But as the Garden State Governor divulged details of an intermittent mission, and admitted to "starting to feel (my) own mortality," Morgan pondered the role of pounds in politics.

Citing examples of past presidents – most recently Bill Clinton – who had their share of struggles on the scale, Morgan suggested that pulling a little extra weight in Washington might not be such a bad thing.

"So, size matters – maybe it makes a politician more, not less, presidential. And maybe, just maybe, Chris Christie is getting in shape for a run in 2016. A real run."

In the words of Morgan, Only in America: "Either way, it shouldn't be the weight of his body that counts with the electorate. It should be the weight of his policies."

In the exclusive sit down, Mitt Rommey's top surrogate made it rather clear that he's not a believer in the recent push by Republican adversary Rick Santorum.

"The Santorum surge is...a juicy bone," suggested the "Piers Morgan Tonight" host. "It's exciting."

"Congratulations...that doesn't mean I've got to buy it!" came Christie's response. "He won three contests in an evening. Congratulations.  And that's great.  Good for him." 

As the entertaining and engaging conversation continued, the Garden State Governor suggested it's far too early to draw any conclusions from the "Santorum Surge":

"I'm really not feeling the surge when we've given out, what, 10 percent of the delegates," questioned Christie. "You know, talk to me when we're at 50, 60 percent of the delegates and then we can start seeing if anybody has got a surge yet or not."

And French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe confirmed journalist Remi Ochlik was killed in a bombing. He was 28."

Asked by Morgan why Romney isn't "beating his chest more," or appearing as though he "wants this more," Christie clarifies:

"I don't think anybody could come to the conclusion he doesn't want it. I mean, this guy works incredibly hard, extraordinarily hard, to get out and meet people and to...to win votes."

However, the Garden State Governor does maintain that Romney could benefit from a more outward approach, and has advised him as such:

"Governor Romney is a reserved kind of guy. And I think people need to get him...to know him more. I have told him that I think it benefits him to get out there more and let people see the family side of him, see him as a father, as a husband, as a grandfather."

Asked by Piers Morgan why so few members of the GOP are "properly in love" with Romney, Christie speaks to the candidate's casual personality:

"He's a very reserved guy. And so in the time that we're in right now, which is a very tumultuous, angry, emotional time, at the moment, reserved is not necessarily what the primary electorate seems to want," suggests Christie.

However, as the sit down progresses, Christie notes that Romney's demeanor may be an asset in a general election, and suspects his candidate will battle Barack Obama when it comes to the politics of the contest:

"It is the nature of our Republican electorate right now that they're very angry about the president and the direction the president is taking us in and...and they want someone who they believe will...will fight the president," Christie tells Morgan. "I think Governor Romney will do that on the issues."

Referencing the current race for the GOP nomination, Steinberg described it as a "gift from God to comedians, the likes of which we have never seen." Carell meanwhile, recalled his days on the "Daily Show," where they were always "so thankful when anything that we perceived of as ridiculous would happen."

As "Piers Morgan Tonight" progressed, the topic turned to Carell as a comedian. Deferring praise, the star of "The Office" insisted: "I don't light up a room. I'm not the type of person who can hold court."

But when asked to compare his humor to that of his "Date Night" co-star Tina Fey, a small degree of Carell's humility vanished. "Tina Fey? Tina Fey? Yeah, she can write a book," joked Carell. "Yeah she can executive produce her own show. But not so good."
