Friday Clips: GoDaddy's CEO and PETA debate elephant killing; Sarah Silverman on anti-Semitism

"Piers Morgan Tonight" featured a contentious debate Friday between CEO Bob Parsons and PETA SVP Dan Matthews over Parsons' killing of an elephant in Africa on a hunt. "Those elephants are not on the brink of extinction," Parsons told Piers Morgan. "The elephants are a problem in that area, we're not killing the whole herd, but what we're doing is taking care of them very selectively, so that the farmer's crops are safe."

"It's kind of bloodlust," countered Matthews. "It's just like these troubled teens who beat up people and post the videos and brag about it. It's ridiculous, it's not civilized and it's not a long-term solution." Also on the show was Sarah Silverman – who talked about popularity and Judaism.

"I'm popular for a Jew," Silverman told Piers. "If there's one thing we should realize it's, in general, the world hates Jews. But it's nice to be an underdog, I guess."

This witch hunt is getting out of control. Many or most human beings on this planet eat meat. This animal was not hunted for sport, which arguably could be objectionable, but to serve a dual purpose: (1) save crops for human consumption and (2) feed a starving village. The elephant was certainly not wasted; this is the circle of life in it's essence.

This country has gone insane. It's one thing to prevent animal abuse and prevent senseless killing of animals, but this is a witch hunt.

Of course he was hunting for sport you moron. Why else would he be in Africa with a big elephant gun?

Shooting one elephant does nothing to solve the problem, but it does make a small penis man feel like a bigshot.

Wow, way to be unnecessarily insulting.

The particular incident in question is the killing of this elephant; I have no knowledge of what Bob was doing in Africa, nor whether that gun is specifically designed for elephants, as you seem to indicate.

I'm not defending the murder of animals. The first thing I thought when I heard the video was that he could have just shot into the air and frightened the elephants, and I also agree with Caroline and PETA that the long-term solution requires a fence of some sort, which Bob probably could have paid for.

But why does this particular incident need to be blasted all over the place and call Bob's company into question?

... and what if Bob has a gigantic, monstrosity of a penis. Does it matter?

Phil, his company is in question because he handed out hats with the GD logo for the villagers to wear while they stripped the carcass. Parsons is the one that made this more than a personal private matter.

If it was a local issue of the herd damaging crops etc wildlife officials would cull the animals not an overpaid idiot who paid big bucks to go on a trophy safari.

You know, when you're fundamentally ignorant on a give subject it's perfectly acceptable to remain quiet about it until you actually learn the facts. The reason that local officials allow paying tourists to do the culling rather than doing it themselves is that the enormous fees said tourists pay for the privilege is a huge boon to the local economy. So the culling ends up providing two local benefits instead of just one.

In the future you might want to consider the following order of actions instead of the one you relied on here:

        1) Learn the facts.
        2) Apply rationale and logic to those facts.
        3) Then and ONLY an opinion.

Do you know that Zimbabwean officials have been inflating the number of elephants to keep the ivory business going. They are making a lot of money and isn't that what usually is the basis for stupid acts in the world. Come on, we all know Bob Parsons just wanted his picture taken standing over a dead elephant with his gun looking macho. What a small, small man. Also he is insulting the public with his justification saying we have our heads in the sand and don't know what's going on in the world. Well it has already started with the boycotting of his company and why give this small man our money when he isn't the only GAME in town.

your wrong, just because most people do something doesnt mean its the best way.example, people eat meat becase they dont know its the mean n dairy (milk is for infants, get soymilk) that clog arteries leading to heart attack, (get a vegan burger) stroke, pad, ed, ect ( hunting wrong again, if you were that animal are you saying the only way to solve your problem is to be shot?... and you are the most advance species on earth (lol), if so. then you would be able to THINK as you would if it was human, the elephant was wasted.. by a (nazi) person that does to animals as nazis did to humans, you (people?) cant think past your gun unless its human.. thats your problem BUTTHEAD.

Give me a break. You certainly need to educate yourself and grow some compassion for all living beings. First of all how arrogant to think that we should not be respectful of the life of an elephant. This was plain and brutal murder for 'sport'. Just because they do not think like us or behave like us (in fact they are far more civilized) – they deserve to live just like you and I.

The reason there is no food is that most food is fed to farm animals to feed humans which in turn kills us and which in turn leaves starving people without grain. Animals are not ours to eat. There is overwhelming scientific research as to the harmful effects of eating animals. Perhaps you should give up eating animals which would then create more grain for those that are starving – I have done that what are you doing? Take a look at (com).

Our species is the most greedy, arrogant, corrupt, evil, vile species on the planet and defends our behavior towards our planet and other living beings to suit us. Open your eyes, research, learn and perhaps spend some time learning what strong family bonds elephants form and how much they value their herds.

Dead elephant. BIG NEWS! Good job CNN! Way to go Piers!

Did you know that the Czechoslovakian Ombudsman reported that as many as 90,000 Romani (Gypsy) Women were subjected to forced surgical sterilization in Czechoslovakia since the 1970’s.
The Government officially admitted to the State Sanctioned Policy and apologized but refused to offer any compensation.
      They cited a sluggish economy.
And on top of that, Bob Parsons had to go and kill an elephant.
      When will it end?
Here’s a funny quote from a case in court March of this year:

"In particular," the statement went on, "she was placed in the so-called 'Gypsy room' and was not allowed to use the same bathrooms and toilets as non-Roma women."

lol, thats a hoot! In 2012.
I won't post a link. Just Google "90,000 Romani women forcibly sterilized"

So we have officially recognized, state sanctioned engineered racial cleansing. Genocide going on in the 21st century...

CNN is tabloid news. Honestly. Freakin elephants?

Apparently, it was a female elephant, he killed, not a male bull. Secondly, what he has done is a very short term solution. What he has achieved is this: kill a female elephant, thus shattering her herd. Fed starving farmers meat for ONE day. He could have easily bought them a year's supply of beans for their protein needs instead of killing an elephant. But no, not as exciting or "manly". Lastly, he may have detered the herd from returning .... for a short period of time. They will come back and more vengefully so. they never forget, especially when they've been attacked and killed by humans. Those farmers he claimed to have helped will face worse problems in the near future. I really want to know what happened to the ivory tusks of the killed elephant. And who profited from his payment fee to first obtain a hunting license then to pay to kill an endangered species within a national park? The starving farmers? Ha, I don't think so. Bob is a moron if he doesn't know the difference between male and female genitalia. it's shoot first, "oops" later. Idiot.

You'll have to ask Robert Mugabe the dictator who ruined the countries farmland by exiling the white farmowners and his cronies who profit from the scams of getting paid by rich industrialists to hunt for "Glory" on illegal elephants in state parks.

Actually Parsons should feed people by providing them with food not just a corps of an animal. He is an idiot who is trying to impress someone – too bad he can't find a descent way about this.

If I were an African farmer and any animal was destroying the crops that I had planted to feed my family, I would kill it myself or find someone that could kill it for me. Here in America, farmers often kill deer and other vermin that are destroying crops or damaging property. It is disgusting that such well fed people such as Mr. Morgan & Mr. Matthews want to force their narrow food bigotry on to people of another culture and country. I guess that it would have been acceptable it the elephant would have killed someone, after all, what is a humans life when compared to an elephants, regardless of rather it was a bull or cow? Perhaps Morgan & Matthews should go there and help to replant the ruined crops since Morgan thinks that Mr. Parsons should be giving the locals handouts. Lets just set up more welfare and then everyone be dependent on someone else to take care of them.

Ask yourself an honest question. If this weren't about corrupt payments to Park Rangers... do you really think that these African tribespeople couldn't just grab a gun, any gun and kill the thing for themselves? Do you think that anybody truly *STARVING* to death... would wait for some billionaire American to arrive 10,000 miles away and only *then* be rid of their "crop trampling animal"??

Right, cause there aren't many GUNS in Africa!! 😛 THAT WAS ME BEING SARCASTIC.

I am not a hunter and do not support hunting for sport. I am actively involved in animal rescue and the support of no-kill animal shelters. I do not condone Bob Parsons actions. However what is not being told in this story is that PETA is an organization that actively condones and supports the euthanasia of dogs and cats by county animal shelters around the country. They consider euthanasia to be a humane solution to a dog or cat being kept in a cage until it can be adopted. In this event they vilify the "euthanasia" of an elephant yet on a daily basis they encourage the exact same act upon innocent shelter dogs and cats. They especially push for the euthanasia for special needs or high risk animals. The only difference between PETA and Bob Parsons is their support of the method of killing. In the animal rescue community PETA stands for Proponents of Euthanizing Treatable Animals. How about covering that story Piers.

RT Simply calling someone an idiot perhaps says more about you than it does about me. What I am saying is that both sides are wrong. It is hypocritical for PETA to strongly advocate the euthanasia of shelter dogs and cats and then take the moral high ground when it comes to killing an elephant. Just as it is wrong for Parsons to try and pass off sport killing for community service. BOTH are wrong. Unfortunately that story was never told.

Who said anything about PETA? It's about a billionaire accepting the lies of corrupt rangers (and Gov't) in Zimbabwe as excuse for the "glory" of killing a female elephant (they lying about it).

I think PETA can be kind of stupid... but the outrage about this arrogant idiot (who I hope loses half his clientele) is about PARSONS, not PETA... PETA is just one group that is angry. I am another, and so are the other million or so folks that are about to change hosting companies.

He's stupid too.... spent $20 million on super bowl ads, then prob lost an equal number of customers in one week with his stupid elephant video. If he thinks a few supporters will make up for the loss, he will find out soon enough that he's wrong.

What right does this person if you can call him that, has to kill this animal..I lived in Africa for 13 years, and these animals have rights....they are one of Africa's Majestic creatures and have rights to. I hate hunting and allways will.....why was this allowed!!!!!! s far as comments made about feeding people, there is lots of help in the world and in africa about helping to feed the people of Africa. PETA is there to help animals, as they have no voice we as humans need to assist and help them..- thank you PETA!!!!!!

Bob Parson isn't an elephant expert, he just likes shooting things. Don't believe everything he says just cause words come out of his mouth.
It is definitely not a male elephant, you can see the female genitalia in the photos. And yes they ARE ENDANGERED. Humans think they are above every other being in the world. PETA has nothing to do with it. Humans aren't going to survive without animals like elephants on the planet, they'll find out the hard way and when its too late.

The CEO for Go Daddy is an obvious idiot. Yeah... he shot an elephant and helped people to eat. First off Elephants are becoming more endangered. This guy is a multi millionaire. If he really wanted to do the right thing, he could have done any number of them food, etc. The reason we have protection agencies is to protect the environment from jerks like him . Let's all just take our shotguns and kill whatever we want, whenever we want. Here's my take. He really enjoyed killing the Elephant, and gave it all a spin "look how benevolent I am...I fed the unfortunate poor." Needless to say I will not renew with go daddy.

Good for Mr Parsons on this. I am from Zimbabwe and can tell you we have a problem of an elephant overpopulation because of top-down laws passed by people who dont even live in Africa about protecting their precious elephants. What you may not know is that the over population of elephants is done by the national park service to cull the elephant population to manageable numbers that are sustainable for the environment. Sometimes, instead of the national park service hiring someone to kill the elephants as they rightly should, they will have foreign hunters, like Mr. Parsons, who are will to pay big money to kill an elephant. This program allows the actual culling of elephant populations to be done by somebody else who actually pays to do so.

The proceeds from this hunting is ploughed back into conservation projects and also helps a bad economy in good ways. Not to mention the villagers who get a free meal and a problem elephant gone. This culling is actually a conservation effort.

Maybe some of you PETA supporters should check Peta's record.....How many animals with a beating heart and feelings has Peta "put down"?
From 1998 to 2008 PETA has killed more than 17,000 animals, nearly 85 percent of all those it has RESCUED. ""
Peta you might want to be careful casting stones when living in a glass house!

Thanks for the link Phrank. Truth be told there are plenty of other rights advocates that would have been more appropriate to appear on this show than PETA. I think I speak for many who support no-kill shelters around the country when I suggest that perhaps PETA could begin to use its funding to actually provide shelter operators with the funding they need to implement and operate no-kill adoption programs rather than just providing them with a pamphlet on how to keep cages clean. Better yet perhaps Bob Parsons and GoDaddy would like to become the supporter of a nation wide no-kill shelter adoption initiative here at home and in Africa. For the price of a trip to Africa, a big bore rifle and some lead alot of helpless animals could be fed and adopted out to good loving homes.

Are you serious?? First off, elephants are endangered animals while chickens and cows will never get on that list. A female cow can start mating at 1-2 years old while a hen does at 16+ weeks. A female elephant does not start mating until they are 13-20 YEARS old. It takes 21 days for a chick to develop and hatch, cows have a 9 month gestation period while an elephant has a 22 MONTH gestation period. Get where I'm going? A chicken and cow's population are easily controlled while there is absoluetely no way to control an elephant's population. By the time a newborn female elephant can have it's first calf, if lucky, 15 years would have passed. And within that time a chicken and cow born the same time would have had plenty of calves and chicks and will have died already.

Speak for yourself. We as a whole (Americans), always claim that we know what's best. This is completely false. The fact that the locals flagged him down signifies an act of desperation. Who would approach a random group of strangers with guns in as dangerous an environment as Africa if it weren't? Who knows if it's a conspiracy or not... I don't, and nor do any of you.

Do any of you know how long it had been since the last time those villagers ate? Do any of you know how much longer they could have starved, if they were starving? No, and I doubt Bob Parsons stopped to ask. He had a decision to make, and he made it. I don't pretend to know anything about what happened, about why PETA seems to like to harass people and paint themselves in some sort of holier than thou position (do some reading. You'll see a lot about them that would very likely disturb you.)

All in all, these arguments are irrelevant. Shame on you CNN for feeding the PETA trolls. This isn't news, this is just PETA being overly dramatic and thinking by leaving GoDaddy, they'll impact them negatively. Remember, infamy still brings fame.

None of the villagers look like they're starving. Most are slender build and muscular, and there's a couple overweight women in the group of scavengers.

Parson is overweight, as a lot of American's are. Maybe that's why no one has commented on the fact the villagers are clearly not starving, emaciated people with enlarged abdomens. THEY'RE GREEDY, NOT STARVING.

They're just a crowd of people trying to get first choice of a free give-away. You see people acting like that every BLACK FRIDAY AT WALMART!

The guys cutting the elephant to pieces have muscular arms and plenty of energy. They aren't a lethargic, malnourished bunch of people.

OK, it's obvious that Morgan doesn't have any knowledge of animal population management. What Parsons said about quotas is correct. There are game management agencies all over the world and when animals start overrunning areas that significantly affect the human population in an area, yes, they are usually controlled thru hunting. For example, in the US, the deer population is controlled in this way. I personally don't hunt because I don't like the taste of wild game, but I respect the need for managed control of animal populations. From what it sounds like, in this area, the elephant populations is a problem. So, I think the Parsons isn't in the wrong here and I think Morgan and PITA are trying to make a witch hunt out of this. I think if it saves crops and the people actually ate the animal, then fine. I also don't think these poverty stricken people could ever build a fence substantial enough to keep out elephants. There by be some ways they could work on keeping them out, but it sounds hunting is agoing to be involed in keeping control of the population in that general location in addition to other ways. Now, where elephant populations are dwindling, don't hunt, it's not needed to control them. Let's have some common sense about this. Quit making a mountain out of a mole hill. What he did was not evil or dark. I don't like to see any animal killed, but sometimes it's necessarry and sometimes it even helps the animal population because overpopulation of animals leads to lack of food for all of them and it's probably why they were going after the crops, lack of food in other areas. If you eat meat of any kind, you have no right to say anything about kiling animals because, remember, the meat you eat comes from animals. These people ate that elephant. If you don't eat meat, shut up unless you are going to feed the people in this area. I do business with Godaddy and will still continue to do so. As a matter of fact, I think I'm going to log on right now to renew and add some features of their great and affordable service. Used them for years and have been very happy with their service. Stop witch hunting.

    A. The people do NOT eat elephant meat. This was trophy hunting, pure and simple - and Bob Parsons is a proud trophy hunter.
    B. Not only does he kill elephants, he has also killed the shooting of a leopard - and filmed it.
    C. All animal advocacy organizations here and abroad have condemned this, not just PETA, and for good reason - there are far more humane ways to protect crops from large animal trampling.
    D. Comments about 'witch hunting' and the like are ridiculous and uninformed. Elephants are endangered and the problem is compounded by poaching, which is illegal FOR A REASON.
    E. I moved all my domain names off GoDaddy, and a few hundred thousand other people are doing the same. Bravo to those who do!

I have been reading everyone's comments. What I dont see is that Mr. Parsons obtained a legal license, and killed the elephant Legally!!! He should never had to explain himself at all. I would have told Piers, and PETA to take a hike. I'm sure he did it for sport, and fed alot of hungry people. Just like many millions of American's do every hunting season. It's call Game Management. If we did not hunt Deer, Elk, and other animals the populations would soar to uncontrolable levels. In turn damaging property, and even killing people that hit deer with there vehicles, or swerve to miss them hitting a Tree. Not much different than PETA Killing Domesticated animals!

      Southern Guy,
      (1) Legality often doesn't justify conduct. Corporal punishment on children is legal in a majority of US schools. Do you feel comfortable knowing a teacher can touch your kids, or any kids you know LEGALLY?
      (2) He should have to defend himself – He fitted the people there with hats that displayed his company name. He was clearly flaunting his status as a GoDaddy employee. If he wasn't CEO, he'd be gone already.
      (3) As previously stated, there are plenty of non-lethal ways to control this population of animals. (And they are not at uncontrollable levels).
      (4) PETA doesn't kill animals. PETA excuses the humane killing of domestic animals that are starving on the street because of irresponsible owners who get them as puppies and then decide to get rid of them.
      (5) Last but not least.. You are the reason people hate the south.

Might it be that you are thinking of a different Peta? You might find some interesting FACTS about the Peta that we are talking about in this article, by looking at this link from NewsWeek.

In 2009, PETA euthanized 2,301 dogs and cats - 97 percent of those brought in - and adopted only eight, according to Virginia state figures. And the rate of these killings has been increasing. From 2004 to 2008, euthanasia at PETA increased by 10 percent. See the link below.

Funny so many northern people move or retire in the south. I have some that are my friends and feel the same way I do. I'm not sure I want to respond to you corpral punisment comment. Maybe that is whats wrong with some kids today they never learn because the are not tought there are consequences to their actions. See Phranks comment below about PETA. Do a little homework before you speak. Oh and by the way it's not just people in the south that hunt for sport. Millions across the nation do. Even in your own backyard.

I am still trying to figure what the big deal is. Anyway, here are my opinions.

Elephant – If Bob did would not have done it, then it would be the next person in line to to shoot the elephant.

GoDaddy – Big company that does lots of good for the economy, pay their fair share of taxes, and makes great contributions to many worthy domestic non-profit organizations. Lots of employees, many of them pet owners, and all paying their fair share of taxes. The employees are the heart of the company. The PETA/CNN which hunt will only hurt the employees of GoDaddy, and not Bob.

PETA – A domestic animal control BUSINESS, posing as a non-profit in order not to pay taxes, and don't realize that many of these GoDaddy employees prevented pets from being killed in a local PETA sponsored facility.

CNN – Should focus more on domestic issues, like the Obamanization of the nation, which will leave us in 13 trillion dollar debt with foreign countries, and set the pace for run-away inflation.

    Dear Piers...
I watched your pathetic excuse for an interview with bob parsons and you disgust me. Your "talking down" to Mr. Parsons show your utter ignorance. Go the hell back to Britain where you belong and stop dirtying my airwaves with your B.S. rhetorhic.

If your family are doing any more frog plnntiag, I would be very happy to have a treelet for my garden. My garden is being decked and a potted frog plant would be most welcome, as would a flood. I think the builder thinks that our family name is Noah and is expecting big rain.

A note to Piers Morgan - please pay a visit to the Holocaust Museum. Hitler justified the expansion of war to Russia so he could get rid of the Bolsheviks (i.e. the Jews and the Marxists). And you invite a Jew to you show and call her a "Bolshy / Bolshevik" the second she teases you? Uncool, very uncool if not more...!

And you've gotta love that Sarah Silverman - dishing Mr. Morgan an immediate lesson on why the anti-semitic elephant is not yet extinct. Was she just talking to him or also about him?

Stupid, stupid man...goes on an elephant hunt in the most corrupt country on earth. The following actions are recommended to redeem himself:
    – Level the playing field somewhat and go on another elephant hunt w/o elephant gun or bodyguards to protect his stupid a$$.
    – He shoots himself with the same caliber gun.
Short of that, unleash Anonymous on his webpage so he can feel what it's like to be a target. It would be among their most worthy of causes.

From what I can tell, the story is "Head of Company Kills Animal". I didn't see any reports of any crimes being committed, and he didn't shoot anyone from what I've heard. I don't see any reason for this kind of outrage that I'm seeing. An elephant is just an animal. You don't cry when people crush roaches or squash spiders. Get over it.

If you have any domains registered with GoDaddy, please consider changing your registrar. Don't support people like Bob Parsons. This isn't his first offense either. Here are easy, step-by-step instructions:

Looks like the scene where the people cut the elephant to pieces was staged. The crowd lingering at the back doesn't seem at all interested in putting claims to any of the remains, and neither do the people milling about.

if you live right accross the river find a HAY FOR SALE ad in the neaepwpsr and have the HAY delivered to where they elk are perhaps they have worms or other internal problems and need to be rounded up and dewormed or vaccinatedumm PETA was initially well intentioned but turned into a bunch of fruitcakes If you are concerned with animals work for your local SPCA or humane society and stay away from activists like PETA who have lost sight of some really important stuff.. for example they dont want people wearing leather (cows are not killed for leather they are killed for meat.. the leather is better to be used than wasted) but incourage people to wear synthetics like polyester instead.. well the making of polyester destroys more habitat and animals and polutes the air and water big time.. so this is backwards thinking .treating animals good is ok but they are a bit freaky on some things

Open the hunt. harvest the meat to feed the sirtvang people and homeless. On day PETA may come to understand that the NRA wre not here to promothe cage hunts but rather to help the hurd by thining out the unfit and stragelers. In this way saving the anamals from the fate of sirtvang due to overpopulation.
