Pervez Musharraf says America showed "arrogance" in entering Pakistan to kill Osama bin Laden

Piers Morgan interviewed former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf this week, and addressed both whether Musharraf supported the killing of Osama bin Laden and whether he thought the Pakistan government knew of bin Laden's hideout. But Musharraf also talked about the "arrogance" of America in coming in to Pakistan without letting the country know. "Theoretically, technically, yes indeed, it's an act of war," he said, but noted it wouldn't necessarily signal a war. "How to deal with it is the question, and I leave it to the government there to how they want to deal with it."

Watch the full interview tonight, 9pmET/PT. Also on the show – former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown on the IMF controversy.

  1. Telling it like it is

Thank you Mr. Musharraf for standing up and saying it like it is. You should be running the country instead of these idiots that are. You have the experience, persona, and the balls to stand up and say it to these arrogant as******s.

Arrogant or not, we'll always come in and do what we have to do to keep our nation safe. You've made it clear we can't trust you, so we'll do whatever we damn please. Good luck stopping us with your third-rate military.

Trust me they can stop US (US DID NOT WIN IN IRAQ NOR AFGHANISTAN) but going to war with another country like Pakistan will drain US economy and will not do you any good. Unfortunately for US, they need Pakistan to fight war on terrorism as nobody will allow US in that axis, already Afghanistan and Iraq govt already shown US the exit door.

I wouldnt believe that for one second if I were you. When crunch time comes, Americans stick together. If we go to war, NATO goes with us. That means we will begin exporting more weapons to less capable countries to bring them on par with the US. More exports equals more money. We have the most capable military in the WORLD. No country would dare declare war on the United States. Look at facts, who has EVER invaded the united states? Ever? We are arrogant because we can be. We spend 21 Billion on your country, believe we will enter it when ever we feel. Consider the US as your landlord, we are just kicking out unruly tenants 🙂

Pakistan was never trust worthy since its inception. It has been a lose, lose diplomatic game for decades. Their own people do not trust the Government and the military. They are simply dishonest, evil, pathological liars and hypocrites in the world. All experts in the intelligence community have a agreed on single conclusion: "Pakistan is the Epicenter of Terrorism" in the world.

You are absolutely right to say that Pakistanis are liars and cheats. The same goes for Musharraf. In fact he is more arrogant and should have been thotoughly investigated for missing Millions and the murder of "Bhutto". If he was
innocent, why did he seek refuge in England and not face his people and the courts at home. In any event, he will
be judged in time to come. He is just plain lucky to have escaped proper justice!!!
He looks so dumb on TV with his explanation and expression of the raid by U.S. Special Forces. Pakistani Special Forces just wont get the job done because their Leaders are totally corrupted and more interested in lining their pockets over security and peace. We have currently Arab Uprising. It should be termed Muslim Uprising and wont
be long before other countries in Asia suffer same fate. The killings are between the muslims so good luck to them.

Pakistan can say what it wants. They are the ones harboring terrorists and the Taliban and doing nothing except collecting our foreign aide. Screw them. The middle east is a lost cause. The only way that there will ever be peace is if they can change the entire middle east to Islam. In fact, the only way there will ever be peace with no terrorist attacks is if we all turn to Islam and let the extremists rule our lives.

Exactly so! That is what those evils have been dreaming on for hundreds of years. The way the tyranny of Islam is being ruled in the Middle East and Pakistan, they want the same to other parts of the world by destroying modern civilization. That dream will never come true. Those evils will kill themselves and thus destroy themselves as they have been doing for thousands of years. We will defeat you Musharraf. You have called this US raid on bin-Laden is arrogant and act of war. You are right, it is an act of war and you are a supporter of the terrorists harbored in your country. So, be it. We are at war with your sovereignty and we will make alliance with India to destroy your Islamic republic alias "the epicenter of terrorism". Killing bin-Laden is the beginning.

Hey Naija4All: If they can stop the USA why did their top Generals say they don't have the technology to track the noisiest aircraft (Helicopter) coming in and out of there country. The reality is, we (USA) have the most powerful/technological advanced armed forces in the world and if we need to come in and out of a country to kill a terrorist we will do so ANYTIME and ANYPLACE...As for Iraq/ Afghanistan, our military had to play with both arms and legs tied behind their backs due to not wanting to harm civilians. Trust me, if we had really turned them loose both countries would be a wasteland for another 100 years. I say we get out of those counties that ares still stuck in the middle ages and dare them to ever try anything again. And if they do, we turn both capital cities into a nuclear wasteland civilians be damned. You would be surprised how that would get everyones attention.

All the foreign aid we currently we give to Pakistan, we should instead give to India. Furthermore, we should give nuetron bomb technology to India. With nuetron bomb know-how, India could take care of the Pakistani and Taliban problem and unlike the USA the Indians would have the balls to nuke Pakistan!

The real story is some thing else which we may never find out. And by the way, why do you give money to Pakistan. You are a democratic country if Pakistan is not good enough demand from your country to stop the payments. How long did it take to capture the serbian guy? How long did it take get Jaycee Lee Daghart abductor?. I am not supporting anyone but lets accept a person can hide in a democratic country if do not leave the compound. Considering the history of successful and attempted assassinations on Pakistani government officials from within, plus threats to their families; it is hard to imagine having full confidence in the country's governance and fully share actionable intelligence.

Obviously it would be preferred by both countries that Pakistan had the capacity to have solved this as an internal matter, that is what sovereignty and diplomacy are about. Some in Pakistan would portray the US as having become pro-Indian because of this; rest assured if this had been India, the US would be stuck with the same options.

Thank You Laurie! I was amazed at the gall or Piers Morgan pushing Musharef to say that Pakistan should consider the USA's killing Osama as an attack on Pakistan! Piers' your interview was an attack on the US's decision to not inform Pakistan. Everyone knows that this subject is a delicate one for our national security, and to push Musharef the way you did while Hillary Clinton is on the way there to smooth things over is treasonous! Your pre-emtive treacherous manipulation of our diplomacy is deplorable. If I was Hillary I'd revoke your green card and edeport your limey ass back to the UK! Respectfully, Ryan.

It's crazy to see the distrust-bordering-on-hatred being shown by the Pakistanis and Indians on this board. I suddenly have a better understanding as to why they can't resolve their differences.

I have tremendous respect for the people in both nations, having befriended a few Pakistanis and spent 2 months working in Mumbai (shortly after the train station bombing a few years ago). I wish your nations could move beyond the bickering and terrorist acts. And yes, I understand the terrorism comes from extremist groups and not your people in general. That makes the negativity on this board even more upsetting.

Also, I know America isn't perfect, and has done much to taint our image over the years, but I'd like the commenters on here to understand that most Americans just want to bring our troops home and earn the world's trust and respect again. But nearly ALL Americans agree that we needed to get bin Laden without anyone knowing of the operation. If Pakistan is truly our ally, they must understand that. In turn, America must not publicly hold Pakistan accountable for harboring bin Laden, even if privately some will believe that was the case.

JayHD, you are the first rational person on this page. However, I would mention this. Bin Laden had a $ 25 million award on his head. How many people did you meet in Pakistan or India who would give up that kind of money to protect a murderer ? What I am trying to say is, I don't think alot of people knew about him.

Bottom line, OBL had been hiding in Pakistan for 5 years and he definately had a support network!! He stayed there because he assumed and hoped the US would never come after him and he felt confident that Pakistan would never give him up. This guys says, that no country should enter other country, someone please ask him why his army captured Kargil (India) in 1999 and many thousands people were killed. I think we are being gracious for letting Pakistan say where they stand rather than we outright make accusations. It is just up to them of whether they want to be seen as ignorant or complicit. One hurts their pride, the other could hurt much more.

Funny that America is upset that Pakistani intelligence couldn't tell that OBL was in Pakistan for so long. How come the CIA/FBI couldn't tell two planes out of their airspace for more than two hours until they hit the twin towers!!!!!That too when the WTC had already been attacked before in 1999. If the CIA can fail than don't be too fast to judge the ISI.
Also America gives aid to fullfill their own interests like keeping their military bases in PK and have access to Afghanistan.

It doesn’t mean that “someone knew 9/11 was going to happen” Just likethe inability of Pakistan to know that OBL was in PK. It doesn’t mean that Pk was harboring a terrorist.

Really really felt like he was being pushed around in an effort to create false headlines. Also, it was surprising to see Morgan circle back on him when he partially or "technically" agreed to things and began restating the sentence as though Musharraf himself had been the originator. Piers, you are not a responsible journalist, nor an ethical human being. You don't want to report global news, you want to impact it. Watching you goading Misharif over and over again to get him admit that Obama was " arrogant" and that OBL's death was an " act of war" and then prodding him to say what he would do about it was disgusting. Much of what you do and say exposes your personal bias against Pres. Obama, and your attempt to force controversy makes me sick. This was the last straw. Mary, you are right on. Pierce Morgan was goading Musharraf to say things and really putting words in his mouth. I think it is okay for journalist to prod things out of their source/guest but PM was going a step further twisting Musharraf's words and restating them as though Musharraf decalred the event as act of war when he was talking about how the event might be categorzed legally and technically. I personally feel CNN is further misreporting what Musharraf had said. I am not sure why but I have seen reporting of CNN and in general they are harsh on all things Pakistan.

Well I personally think that Musharaf knew all along and maybe he did give permission for Bin Laden to hide in Pakistan. Musharaf played a double game. He should be tried for harbouring the worlds wanted man.Musharaf sounds arrogant not the USA.

If there is any accident/injury (at home or street) in Pakistan, who is responsible and who should be held accountable?
If there is a natural calamity (like earthquake, heavy rain, flood etc.) in Pakistan, who is responsible and who should be held accountable?
If Pakistan nurtured and kept OBL at safe place near its Military academy, who is responsible and who should be held accountable?
If any Pakistani get itching, sneezing, cold or cough, who is responsible and who should be held accountable?
If there is a traffic jam during rush hours in Pakistan, who is responsible and who should be held accountable?
Answer: India, because most of Pakistanis have developed OCD, they are brain washed by Islam and they are heavily obsessed.

We are not talking about physical time here, we are talking about the inability of CIA to prevent 9/11 which came into question by the American media when 9/11 happened. It doesn't mean that "someone knew 9/11 was going to happen" Just likethe inability of Pakistan to know that OBL was in PK. It doesn't mean that Pk was harboring a terrorist.
      It doesn't mean

Well...I guess you can call it arrogance. However, when a threat to the majority of the world is hiding in your back yard...someone will eventually step up and take the bugger down. Pakistan is arrogant in assuming that somebody wouldn't go get bin Laden.

Your interview was exceptionally straight forward and brilliant. I wish you would have asked him about Mumbai Terrorism also. You have David Frost's charecteristics. Keep you the good work.

It's not an act of arrogance but a detriment to those who see terrorism as a way of pacing prestige...

I dont know why CNN is misrepresenting what Musharraf said. I heard the full interview and I clearly heard Musharraf saying that President Obama publicly saying he will invade Pakistan again is arrogance. Musharraf also rightly said that "technically and legally" it was an act of war – as would be the case whenever any country invades another country. There was nothing wrong with it but CNN has taken a bent to portray as though Musharraf was declaring it as in fact an act of war. I like President Obama, voted for him eventhough I am a repulcan. But I think President Obama needs to watch his words given that the actions of US military were in fact an act of war. President Obama and US needs to understand that no one in Pakistan cared what happened to Osama but they did feel humuliated with US forces intrusion in the counrty. Mr. Obama is rubbing salt into those wounds with his words. I hope Mr. Obama knows words matter and people remember especially when someone was talking down to them like they are trash.

if the pakistanis had been forthright in letting the world know that bin laden was in their country then we wouldnt have needed to go get him ourselves.the only reason we look arrogant to pakistan is because we showed them to be weak.they didnt do anything to get the terrorist out of their country but we did.they play it like they didnt know he was there but we DID and we got RID of him.too bad pakistan looks so bad now.maybe they should be more careful.

Musharaf should shut up, or expect to be the next to taste the might of the Navy Seals. There is no way he or any one can tell us Pakistan did not know of Bin Laden's stay in the country. I do not buy the incompetence defence. When it comes to attacking India, Pakistani Intelligence Services are very competent, albeit in a negative direction.

I understand Musharraf's point but he should also understand that, by all means, the US has to get rid of this heartless mass murderer.

As far as the Pakistan & ISI is concerned, they are in bed with the Terrorists, just because they have 150 Nukes, we should apply the same
Policy we used in the 90,s using Iraq to keep the Iranians at bay. Just
cut off the Billions of dollars ,use the Indians to check the Pakistan
