Bill Maher on the women of the GOP: "I hope Sarah Palin gets in"

Tonight Bill Maher sits down with Piers Morgan to talk the latest news, President Barack Obama and more. The list of GOP hopefuls is growing and it could soon include both Michele Bachmann and Sarah Palin. Which female does Maher think could lead the GOP? Maybe Bachmann. "At least she's somebody who can read." He says he really doesn't know who he would pick but he "absolutely" believes Sarah Palin could become president. "This Republican party is not your father's Republican party."

Catch the full interview – including Maher's thoughts on Casey Anthony – at 9pm!

Dear Bill – While I consider you partially entertaining and somewhat on point. You are clearly lacking material and visibility on the grander scheme of life and dare I say it... Common-Sense – Sara clearly has a value that is unique and while no one is perfect ... Sara has decide her best course for financial growth and prosperity is to talk about the political issues at large vs actually being accountable to sustain them or change them. She should be applauded for making the most of her limited capabilities and I am sure she will do well in the chosen path of capitalism. As for President.– Common Sense – Bill Common Sense – Ask yourself if you are really being sensible.

Common-Sense-1776: You appear quite intelligent, so it's difficult to fathom what you possibly see in Sarah Palin as a viable political candidate. First and foremost – she QUIT her last elected position. Secondly – tell me what her ideas are beyond complaining about Obama. That's ALL she does. I'm unhappy with some of Obama's performance, but one thing he got right is that in general, Republicans are indeed the Party of No. Their platform as long as I can remember is to be negative, and to actively stifle whatever initiatives a Democratic president puts forward, even if the American people want it.

To the obama hater: It cracks me up that the right wing tries to use all of the insults that W received. The problem is, they weren't insults, they were the truth. W was completely illiterate, could barely string together two words and had the most vile and evil creature on Earth pulling his strings. To claim that Sarah Palin or any current GOP candidate is even marginally close in intelligence to Obama shows that all you care about is image. Pearly white image. oh yea and throwing around Bible, Jesus, God and TAKE BACK AMERICA!!! Wonder what it's like to be so angry and selfish.

Kennedy was a good man who stood for peace and because of it was shot. So was MLK – the powers that be in this country know that a nation divided keeps them in control. ALL presidents are just puppets to the puppet masters – no conspiracy theory here – just someone who doesn't cover the sun with one finger and believes all the bull crap they feed us through the media. OPEN YOUR EYES people!! We are all being duped – America was highjacked my power hungry AMERICANS.

But it's OK to SLAM any woman that runs for President. It's OK to to make her look crazy, stupid or mentally unbalanced.
Hillery, Palin, O'Donnell, Bachmann are the butt of every joke.
Kimmel and Letterman are still making Palin jokes, 3 years after the election.
Oprah has made billions off woman and will not back any woman.

      • I'll use small words...

Lol nice try there bud. You actually do far more of a disservice to women than you realize. How? By suggesting that these three tea party women are qualified to run and that we women somehow hate them...because they are women rather than because they are completely inept and taking women back 50 years everytime they open their mouths. It's the same reason that I, a black woman, could never have voted for Al Sharpton, he just doesn't have what it takes. Yet I voted for Barack Obama, because he does. You can't just say say "oh hey he, or she looks like ME, therefore I'll vote for them." No, that's the Republican way, and it's not good for this country. Hillary Clinton did get made fun of (as do all politicians), but she is far more respected than those three dolts from the tea party, I certainly wouldn't have been upset if she had won. Give me a break!

Why can't politicians just answer the question without beating around the bush. They are so afraid of taking a stand and offending someone it is actually sad. So whoever can tap dance the issues without opposing anyone or anything gets the vote.

Ha! You may as well move to Syria if Palin gets in, she'll create a world for US citizens that will take you all back 300 years. The US will be come medieval in it's treatment of citizens with little money. There will be more poverty, as her policies will divide the rich from the poor. There'll be people on the streets, with no homes, and no healthcare when they are ill, so the death rate for people who could be treated with modern technology will rise dramatically. They'll be more hate, more division of racial contempt and superiority. White Power will be the norm and they'll be lynchings and a whole lot of other nasty stuff. We in the UK call Palin the Devil's Wife. Palin thinks she knows what US wants, but she speaks for a minority of haters who despise anyone of colour taking way their white power.Because that's what she was brought up to believe, that Whites are the only ones to have power. President Lincoln & Roosevelt are turning in their graves at this!

Look, get something straight, if you use the logic that after the past 3 years its STILL George W Bush's fault, then why isnt it Bill Clinton's fault for the first 3 years of George's term. All of that time the Legislature was controlled by the Dems, THEY make the law NOT the Pres. Obama reads beautifully, take away his tele prompter and he's Daffy Duck.
While I don't believe Sarah Palin to be Presidential, she is honest and has character, more than I can say for the current regime who more closely resemble a cross between Al Capone & the SS.
Liberials know no God, (maybe money & power), they are pro abortion but anti death penalty, Pro Tech but anti free market, Pro Gay and Pro Muslim (who want to kill all Gay) Pro every religion Except Christianity, they say they are anti hate but are hateful (Sarah Palin best case in point) Pro women but Anti Sarah Palin, Pro education but anti school choice,
Pro Darwin and Pro endangered species.
If Obama is so smart why has he paid almost 1mil $ to hide his college transcripts from every collegfe he has attended.
He leaves town when there are things to do, comes back and blames everybody else for his shortcomings.
He is even more incompetent than Jimmy Carter, wake up liberal's WAKE UP.

Look into your recent economic history. The only time jobs were created and unemployment stayed down in the last 20 years was when Clinton was in office. Ronald Reagan AND George W. That will raise the revenues and this country's spirit. Vote for the country not just YOURSELVES.

Just take a look at the countries who are fairly successful in, and are rising above AMERICA in their research, science, and technology. As Bill stated, do they have Army bases in evry remote corner of the planet? Only one example of issues. I don't think one person is always right about absolutely everything. But while we, as people, and the politicians we elected, who are really out to simply continue to help themselves in some way, continue to argue back and forth, AMERICA just continues to lose it's grasp on all greatness it once had...

Correct. As long as you don't count Korea or Vietnam. Or the Cold War. And since the income tax amendment wasn't passed until 1913, the stat is still meaningless because the number of long-term wars since then have been few. But it is a nice handed-me-down talking point.

Somebody left the lid off the cookie jar and many helped themselves leaving the vast majority of the working class with crumbs ... while bakers around the world were coming up with new recipes. It's a simple analogy but it is also plain english. ..... Trust is gone. The trickle down mantra has run it's course.

Do they not teach history anymore? Johnson lowered taxes during teh Viet nam war two years. Roosevelt lowered business taxes in his last term during WWII. Britian lowered it's taxes for four years during WWII.
Stop drinking the Kool Aid... READ and know that Bush's tax breaks created undemployemnt numbers at 4% for 5 years.
NO country EVER taxed itself out of recession. THAT is a fact. No new taxes....but increased revenue by closing loop holes is econ 101 and the ONLY econ model that has historically worked to end a recession and put people back to work. Let's learn from History.... time to put America back to work.

Not all states require you to choose a political party in the primary. Here in Washington, we just threw out the primary as a way to save the state money. Of course, what we lose are all the political junkets to our state and the dollars that would have been spent here.

So, for the WA resident below, your position is that Bill Maher (1) is a registered voter in an open primary state like WA (not CA where he does the show) and (2) given the ability to choose from a field that included ALL of the GOP candidates and ALL of the DEM candidates, he cast his ballot for GOP candidate John McCain. I presume that means he confirmed that vote in the November general election by voting once again for McCain versus the DEM nominee.

I find it amazing that we constantly worry about taxing the wealthy but worry not about the nearly 50% who pay no federal income taxes. Might we consider lifting our society to a standard where education is important and certainly leads to jobs (unemployment among college graduates is about half the rate of non-graduates). If we continue on the slippery slope we are on, we will certainly need to tax the wealthy more as the percentage of those paying no taxes is on a slippery slope upward. I wonder if everyone thinks we're all in the situation we are in through no fault of our own.

For one thing I cannot believe he had Bill Maher on the show, a person that may think he understands the world but does not. He states that we need to cut the American Military and bringh them all home, I guess if that is the case we should pull all funding from the UN and NATO, stop being the worlds police force and let the genocide begin along with giving up protection to our key allies in Europe and Asia.

If he is seriuos about this then he should be screaming at the top if his lungs that congress is paid too much. 160K per year when in fact 60% of senators and 40 % of congressmen are millionaires. No one is bringing good reduction ideas tothe table such as selling off the TVA facilities, Selling off Fannie and Freddie, fixing the postal service or disbanding it since it is in the red all the time.

We also have an imbalance of who pays taxes. Liberal Progressivism is dead and it is now time for all Americans to stand up and stop bashing each side and have a meaning full discussion, Obama should embrace his own debt commisions findings instead of dismissing them, they have the answers in front of them use them and the American People can assist with the ideas we all have.

"WE" don't worry about taxing the rich. That's just a democrat strategy called "class warfare" that they use to divide the nation. Obama is a Millionaire according to his last tax return, yet the liberal media lets him get away with saying "Millionaires and Billionaires" as if they are the enemy. Meanwhile the real enemy, is Obama, the stealth Muslim, who's had the skids greased for him his whole life. His school records are sealed so we cant see the Communist Revolutionary in action. If there were any real journalism, and hardened reporters like there used to be, we might get some answers. As it is, you have to search the internet. Do it quickly, because Team Obama wants to take away your freedom to browse. Afraid you might find out the truth.

Did Piers Morgan and Bil Maher just assert that China has a small military compared to the 500,000 person U.S. military? China has the largest military in the world (no surprise given its population size) and the largest standing army in the world at 2.5 million members, which is still larger than 500,000 the last time I checked. Oh, and here's a question for Maher regarding America being a "dumb country": was the election of Obama in 2008 evidence in support of this contention? If you claim it is an exception, did does the country move from dumb to smart from year to year depending on whether it agrees with Bill Maher?

It is interesting how some think a tax increase will take care of our financial woes. I'm sure we all realize many of us have constantly kept ourselves in less than desirable financial situations because we spent more than we take in, and that never seemed to change as incomes grew with wage increases, etc. I have seen nothing to suggest that the government operates any differently.

      July 11, 2011 at 10:02 pm | Report abuse | Reply
      • Kathleen

Actually, it's not a tax increase it's rescinding tax cuts that never should have happened. Escpecially during a war. It essentially cut the Governments salary. How does that play out in persoanl lives when your employer basically says ....."we want to cut your salary .... this will take you from being able to pay all your bills off within two years to putting you in severe debt at the same time you are about to retire.... and one more thing... I am goind to start another fight with another one of your neighbors across the street and you are going to pay for all the damages. How's that sound? Did you like hearing them say that? Did you you have a choice?

I want Kathleen to become the spokesperson for the liberals in the U.S. Conservatives would never lose another election. If the taxes are like a salary from taxpayers to the government as an employee, it is the only salary system in the world where the employee sets the salary and the raised and the employee gets to confiscate the employer's money.

Since we are playing the employer analogy game, if increasing the tax rates is not a tax increase but merely "rescinding tax cuts," I am sure that if an employer rescinded the last raise and busted a employee down to minimum wage in the real world, Kathleen would support that because it is not pay cut, but merely "rescinding a prior raise."

Why is no one talking about Murdoch ? What does Bill think of this man?

Murdoch has controls more than one media in the US and UK than it has been legal yet he has bee mollycoddled by politician and policy makers.
Since the past 40 years he has interfered with our democracy - determining election results, bolstering politicians in exchange for influence, and smearing others who refuse his orders. Calling Alan Hart investigating on 911 rubbish and mocking it.Sadly other media head were taken up by this charismatic man of great wealth that has ruthlessly, corrupted broadcasting single handed.Rupert Murdoch owns 40% of British newspapers. In United States FOX news is known for "false spins" and deceiving stories yet nothing has been done by our congressmen as MONEY talks and the lobbies protected this monster that charm them.
The phone hacking is just part of the story. When the whistle blowers at FOX start whistling than worry about there pay checks in hard time of unemployment. Murdock has been manipulate the public and politicians like no other than Pied Piper taking us in to Wars based on LIES. There were no WMD yet Bush's lies were exaggerated and never exposed by Murdoch or any of the news media. This war has killed millions yet we are glued to the TV like zombies watching the Anthony trial or hearing Nancy Grace.

Why should we in America care about Murdoch ?? Murdoch controls our cultural and has had political influence over the years by FOX. Murdoch's hand-picked selection to run the Wall Street Journal was longtime loyalist Les Hinton, who oversaw News Corp's British newspapers during the height of News of the World's alleged hacking activity. Hinton twice testified to the UK parliament that he had conducted a rigorous inquiry into the papers he oversaw and claimed hacking was limited to one reporter. That's right: "Hinton, who ran the show for Murdoch as phone hacking"

Murdoch's cover-up and hacking of victims and shareholders alike. We have all tracked the lies and deceit coming from Fox News all these years and noting was truly done.

We as Americans need to know whether our privacy was violated by Murdoch reporters searching for a good scoop to sell news. Please ask Congress to hold a hearing to see that Murdoch does not get away with this corruption in United States.

Ask Congress to hold hearings to see just how far this scandal goes –

Now it appears that it's not just Fox that's the problem.

Murdoch's influence the media monopoly has stifling and chocked independent and honest journalism in most media is not an unreasonable suggestion as Murdoch's empire has always been the loudest and furthest reaching voice in the anglophone world and beyond.

Bill Mahre said he's not a Democrat and we sure as hell know he's not a republicaN, however, has he been lying to us-he just said he voted for McCann in the primary. Well guess what people, in the United States of America, you can ONLY VOTE FOR A MEMBER OF THE SAME PARTY YOU ARE REGISTERED TO; Dems can only vote in/for a Dem candidate and the same with Reps. McCann didn't run on the Democratic line. HOW DID BILL MAHER VOTE FOR McCANN?????

Guess what, Leonardo? As it is in your state, so it is not all over the United States of America. There are many states in the union in which one is not limited to voting in the primary of a party to which one is a registered member. I live in one. We had tons of nut job right-wingers here voting in the Democratic primary because they thought that they could better influence the outcome of the final election that way. I don't know whether Bill Maher voted in the Republican primary in his state or not, and neither do you.

What college did Biill Maher attend? You have to be kidding. Who cares! Everyone should believe in his or her own intelligence (including Bill Maher.). If you think he has the mind of an adolecent, you demean adolencense and demean adultnood; he is beyone middle age and is just happy to be who he is. Are you saying you are so much more than that? Just be at peace with what you are, and with what he is. Stop being so judgemental. Everyone is what they are. You included.

Unemployment numbers are comprised of those that are in the job market for the past 30 days. It does not include those that have not been in the job market in the last 30 days: people who have given up looking; those that have gone off unemployment because it has run out. my cat Butch, if he gets the GOP nomination, will beat Obama by a wide margin. I believe that in 2008 Obama got elected by the confluence of several unusual occurrences: 1 an unpopular war 2 an unpopular president 3 a financial catastrophe 4 a contender (McCain) who ran the worst presidential campaign in recent memory 5 an unusual participation of blacks in the ballots 6 a successful slogan that resonated with frustrated voters: hope and change 7 a public that knew nothing of Obama and his deficiencies and was optimistic about the man, but now the public knows who Obama is and what he is not.

Bill Mahers. They say women liberation wont be complete till a silly woman can get anywhere as silly men have always been able to.
I would not blame these women for talking to God without considering that religions do what they can to persuade people of the supernatural. The Opus Dei sect for example, archive information on people who dont belong to the sect, members have to report on all conversations they have with outsiders, any team sent out by them to try to pull you into their group can then seem to have miraculouse knowledge of you. You can read about the opus dei in the site 'odan' opus dei, do prepare and send out all members to convert people. They also use a fortune tellers tricks to get you to let them know about you without realising that you have given them the information as a way of pretnding to have supernatural powers.
To be wacky, I would say telepathy exists, it is an uncertain science so there is no proving it, and those who mediate a lot get good at it, praying orders of monks and nuns or the evangelists who go into trances all the time, telepathy is a right side of the brain activity i imagine, that is made easier if you are have put aside the left hand side for a while by going into a trance and what you can do with telepathy is incredible, apart from direct communication with others heads, if you think about it it also means the ability to use for a while the minds of the person your victim is talking to, that person can say to the victime what they want him or her to say. This would not change peoples heads or at le4ast only as muchas a normal arguement would , after all you have your whole life experience in your head and telepathist only communicate for the space of time they give to that activity with others.
This does not involve the halucination of hearing voices, it involves the uncertain science of deciding if that thought was mine or someone elses. People who think they hear from Christ or God through these tricks dont hear from christ, they hear from their nearest crazy preacher with telepahtic abilities.
People should be warned not to trust the apparently supernatural, to ask themselves if those messages that seem suipernatural are saying something they aprove of or not and if not, and not believe in it however supernatural it seems without agree with it. When people are presented with the apparently supernatural and the religiouse are very good at making things look supernatural they leave their good sense and good judgement behind them.
The religious are changing our world one person at a time in the style of those letteres that you recieve one of and then send out four and then get back thousands. If their members all get good at or are taught manipulating and indoctrinating and are told to make the effort, to use this ability to bring others into line, with this or that christian group, then that is a lot of people to indoctrinate others with, on a one to one basis. Populations should be warned against pretence of the supernatural to indoctrinate them.
One to one conversion also has the advantage of making it hard for people to judge what is happening to them. If you see another person being coerced you think how cruel and unreasonable in the case of it being these things and it normaly is unreasonable in the case of indoctrination, their game is to say you need this or that religion because you are bad and they aren't to fussy about finding out how selfish you are before they accuse you of egoism say, not to mention their use of negative suggestion you are depressed you need us whether you are or not, they are concentrateing on how usefull to them criticism is, not on how true it is. If it happens to you on a one to one basis it is harder to determine whether you are over protective of yourself when you react to other people differing from you or to criticism of yourself and put a stop to it or if it is justified, to know if the criticisers are being abusive and doing you down to more easily manipulate you rather than because you need correcting.
Unless we wake up to this invisible propoganda machine, we will wake up tomorrow to find everyone has turned into Michel Bachmans, amiable with ideas that are pretty cruel for some parts of the population, like the poor. The strong heads and main bodies of the more fiercly christian among us seem to back up the rich at the expense of the poor, which is conundrum too strangeb and terrible to believe at first and then too true to deny. rose macaskie.

The PM interview that just ran–Tuesday 9:10 pm EDT–is a perfect example of why the mainstream media aren't helping. You asked what the Republican Senator would compromise on, and he answered "We are willing to give Obama the debt ceiling hike he wants, all we want is a balanced budget." His idea of compromise is to give Obama a debt hike? It 's the country that needs a debt hike, according to everyone but the most fanatical tea partyers, not Obama. Why didn't you ask the real question: what are you willing to compromise on to ACHIEVE a balanced budget? They keep demanding cuts and you keep letting them get away with offering nothing in return.

Bill took us back to Reagan .... the last true conservative president who was despised by the blue blood country club establishment republicans, laughed at as a complete buffoon by the MSM and liberals ..... but guess what? he won twice with a vicious media baying at his heels ... not only won but pushed tax reform through a D dominated congress that spurred economic growth and lifted the nation out of Carter and D congress induced depression. Palin too speaks directly to the electorate over the head and the vicious ridicule of the establishment media .... the MSM has been trying to finish her off since 2008 without success ... Reagan was laughed at when he considered running as the R candidate in 1968 ... laughed at again in 1976 and laughed at again in 1980 when he won the nomination against the wishes of blue blood rinos .... Continue to laugh at Palin, to ridicule her, to diminish her excellent record of public service at your peril. The nation is increasingly aware of tyranny and arrogant incompetence of big government and is ready to react and return to conservative founding principles

The aftermath of Bush? (B.S.) The Democrats ruined us between 2007 and the current day. They made a boatloads of money on the same policies that caused the economic crash. Dodd made 1st the most off of Fannie and Freddie. Guess who came in 2nd??? Barry Soetoro/Obama. Yes!

May I simply just say what a comfort to find someone that genuinely knows what
they are talking about on the internet. You definitely realize how to bring a problem to light and make it important.
More and more people must check this out and understand this side of the story.
It's surprising you are not more popular given that you definitely possess the gift.

Nice post. I study something more challenging on different blogs everyday. It'll at all times be stimulating to read content from other writers and practice somewhat something from their store. I’d want to use some with the content on my blog whether you don’t mind. Natually I’ll provide you with a link on your net blog. Thanks for sharing.
