Clips From Last Night: Bill Maher on why he's never been married... and American innovation

Last night Piers Morgan interviewed Bill Maher about Pres. Barack Obama, Sarah Palin, Casey Anthony and more. But he also talked about why he's never been married. "I've never been a liar," says Maher. "To me, not getting married was part of that. Some people just have a very strong libido, and you just have to deal with it. If I had gotten married any time before now, I couldn't be faithful."

Maher also talked about Mitt Romney and business experience:

Says Maher: "Government is there to do the things that are not supposed to turn a profit."

I have been waiting to finally address your HORRIBLE interviewing style! I was so eager to see the interviews with Beyonce and Charleze Theron...and terribly annoyed with how you interrupted...asked a question and then when they tried to answer, changed the subject completely, gushed to the point it made them uncomfortable. YOU need to get off the air. I agree with so many here, that you ruined the interview w/Bill Mahrer; a very compelling and interesting person doing the same thing. Frankly, Ii'm embarrassed for you...since you seem so clueless to the effect you are having on your guest. Where's Larry King!! OMG...I cant believe CNN has kept you this long. CNN: pay off his contract and replace him with....Whoopie or someone who is respectful and knows what they are talking about.

I have enjoyed your show on occasion until yesterday when you were falling all over Bill Maher, Perhaps you forgot or maybe you didn't know that, after terrorists flew two cmmercial airliners into the twin towers and killed some 3000 inocent people, Bill Maher praised them for not being cowards. Also, if he wants to be an athiest I'm ok with that but his obsession with doing all he can to destroy religion in general shows me there is somthing basically wrong with this mans ideals.

Charlie, he said the act of staying in the plane as it crashed into the building was 'not cowardly' in comparison to the U.S. firing missles from thousands of miles away. This is not praise, as he finds the act of terrorism as disgusting as anyone else. Rush Limbaugh even agreed with him. I'd offer more if I had better context, but I can't find the actual episode being referenced.

If you find the context I think you will find it was more of an anti american statement than an anti terrorism statement, how could you think killing 3000 inocent people not cowardly. Using air strikes in wars to kill they enemy from miles away saves the lives of thousands of our soldiers.

Look back and listen to what Maher said. It was a honest statement, and his right to say. Others attacked him for FREE SPEECH. His statement was used against him. He was punished for his FREEDOM to speak how he felt . He loses his show for it. That does not make him ANTI-American. Simple thinking is all that is. Lazy That is what came out of that whole childish episode for me Simple thinkers who do not know what FREE SPEECH is!!!. That you only have free speech when it is all agreed that the speech is the right speech. Even anti-american speech is free speech and protected in OUR GREAT NATION. That is why PEOPLE die for our Country, to protect OUR FREEDOMS. Which are being taken from us slowly until we will no longer live in a FREE Nation.

What is wrong here. Bill Mahr uses the term MILTF in regards to Srah Pallin and Michelle Bachmann and Piers Morgan laughs. Where the hell is his sense of decency, or is this just 'old boys stuff'. Bill Mahr is a very narrow biased man, but Piers Morgan should never dive in with him. Piers owes both women an apology.

Last night's show with Bill Maher was insulting and disgusting. As an intelligent and successful conservative woman, I can say that women don't need the government to support them. We should be encouraging all Americans to stand on their own two feet. There will always be some who need help but we have too many people taking advantage of others hard work. Piers...stick to asking the questions not answering them.

Nearly 58 million Americans get Social Security benefits, including those with disabilities and dependent child benefits, old age and survivor benefits.
38.5 million get Medicare and an additional 8 million with disabilities or end stage kidney disease.
More than 50 million receive Medicaid. There are about 50 million uninsured or under-insured.
I am not going to look up how many get unemployment insurance, and other benefits under state and federal programs.
SO I am glad you've got yours, but the rest of us actually care for the less fortunate. I know. Hard to imagine for you, isn't it?

What a fun, interesting and insightful interview this was! Bill Maher is one of the most sane and sighted public figures in this country right now. I don't know why people continue to accuse Bill Maher of insulting women. What he goes after is ignorance. And if any apologies are needed, the media should apologize to the American people, a majority of whom are facing serious struggles in this time, for giving the crazies in this country airspace. It would be wonderful to see intelligent, sensitive, sensible people knowledgeable of real issues in the news, rather than whackos with their own loony agendas posing for camera and news coverage. A look at who runs for public office in this country is a huge case for shifting the military budget to education. A wonderful interview, Piers Morgan and Bill Maher - thanks for some sanity!

Bill Maher only sees one stupid conservatives are in politics and religion. This hatred he has drives everything he says. He doesn't even see the folly on the left because he is so blind. If he would open up his eyes he would see that God does exist...that Bush wasn't stupid...and that Obama is not this erudite "above us all" person he is made out to be. He could not even answer a simple question by Pastor Rick Warren on when life begins. He mispronoucned Navy Corpseman at least 2 times in a speech two years ago.

Charles Scherer, one thing i know about the religious is they shoot at everyone and then say its unfair if you criticise them at all. There are reasons to say what you think about religion and the religious usualy run in big packs and can answer back from a strong position so you are not likely to do them undue damage so i say shoot al your guns at them. They are not alone or soft, indeed if anyone teaches you to defend your own points of veiw, believing they can make sure that your ideas are theirs and defends their own, it is them at least in the case i know, the catholic one. That the religious claim to do and indeed,do do a lot of good works, they are a bit old fashioned and back up proceedures that lead us back to the classist past past, like prefering slaves because they did not have divorce and disapproving of objective teaching and of taxing the rich as they believe in the lord in the castle and the beggar at his gate being the God given order. that they claim they are so good that anyone who shouts at them must have something wrong with them frightens people so few people do question what they do and there are several very worrying things they do, like prohibiting preservatives in times of AIDS and always though they say they are not anti semitic, having, a good list of stories of bad jews and none of good ones, though the holocaust proved were blackening jews takes us. The religions got away with blue murder on that one, they said things like, "it was Nitzches fault or the Valkyries or the fault of the nazis interest in hinduism or buddhism that the holocaust happened, when we know which group had most fervently blackens jews for mileniums christinas had. When is history going to put that bit of history straight I wonder?rose macaskie madrid.

Rose, did you read your statement after you wrote it? That was the most confusing thing I've read in a long time. If your defending Maher's right to critisize religion, I agree with you. If your saying he has a right to constantly harass and ridicule and ultimately try to destroy religious belief, I do not agree. In fact that is an un-american way to think, the turmoil caused in the name of religion is caused by intolerant people like Bill Maher.

chas, of course4 he has a right to constantly harrass religion iif harrass is the word you want to use. We live in countries with freedoom of speech and if he has serious doubts about them one attack a year will certainly not help to clear anything. Everyone who has seriouse doubts about big organisations should be clammering to have them cleared up.
I defend religions when i think they get attacked in places were people dont know anything about that religion, for example we know nothing of judaism, I at least have not met any people who know much of it, so the attacks judaism recieve are not balanced by our knowledge of the good points of this religion, so i disapprove of them. The same is true of Islam, I know that the good people who belong to a religion are thinking of the good points of that religion not the bad ones, for example good chrtistians are thinking of the kindness of christianity not it warlikness of christians, and we keep conquering nearly all the world so we beart all others in warlikness, so I understand that good islamist are thinking of the good part of islam not its weak points and i think we should understand what they are preserving as well as criticising them. I am against criticising Islam untill we know about its best points but i have nothing against people in christian countries attacking christianity where there are millions of people to defend it.
I find it impossible to believe its critics will destroy it and I believe thay might put more sense into christianity. Each bit of christianity has a few points that the other christian groups would like to change them on. There is lots of room for discussion, I so tremendously welcome Bill Maher persistent attempts to open this feild of conversation by attacking these very strong groups. I am sure he can't so so without getting an enormouse amount of agression back and some one should be doing this job, religions get some very bad habits, it is so hard to attack those who help the poor that they get away with blue murder. To take an extreme example one that is a bit archaic, we have the christian killing so many whitches as they have done in some centuries. much as christ started the religions his followers on many ocasions have been murderous. If you read adult essays about the killing of whitches and the number of women killed it was very tremendous. Christains got that mean in the past they can get very mean and blood thirsty again.
They have been so mean to me that I would gladly see them wiped of the face of the earth but i did not think that was a likely hood when i wrote in defence of bill mahers half an hour ago, i think it is crazy to imagine they could be done away with. I htink they like to talk as if that was a possibility to stop people from questioning anything they do.. rose macaskie madrid.

PIeirs moragn you asked Bill Maher if he was catholic or not and on being told that he had been bought up catholic said that people can't stop being catholic, or some such . You have never believed in any other thing i see, if you had, you would know that that phrase is one of the catholic ways of menacing those who leave or try to, it is a reminder that catholics will always be there getting at you, as for catholics you are always catholic and so their rightful prey. Getting at you to make you come back into the fold.
I have come to find that assertation frightening, I know how they say things like you might go to hell if they are trying to make you stay and such statements are frightening because some doubt always enters in to normal peoples minds however sure they are, it is after all only healthy to alway weigh up every possiblility, so catholics are frightening and mean to be and so the reminder that they will always be there, trying to scare you because you are always catholic is daunting. It is suprising how innocently catholics say theses phrase that they have all seem to have learnt but whose power they maybe dont fully understand unless they have been subjected to the nastier side of the church, so turning all cahtolics into usefull allies of the hard core part of the church.
Do you tell your children when they get confirmed that it is not simply that at thriteen as they are then eager to stay catholic and so promise to stay it that htey get confirmed but that it is that this sort of ceremony gives catholics, many of them, an excuse to say they can try to get at you and that includes accusing you of all sorts of sins true and false to shrive you whenever they want, much as you feel you have long since ceased to believe in their faiht. They are like the gutter press, they are alway accusing others of one thing or another, their excuse for accusing others of anything under the sun is that its better to be safe than sorry, which means they would not want to miss out on some sin so causing you to go to hell, they are trying to jump confessions out of you. They are also good at finding ways of letting everyone know what they think of of others, they make an example of those who dont give them lip service by accusing them of lots of faults. I think people should know this before they promise to be catholic, know too that cahtolics only believe in religious freedom for them, not for others and if you can still like the religion sign up for it.
You asked Bill Mahers if he does not believe in God a bit. No ex-catholic can say they ever play with the idea of praying or thinking of God or catholics will say they are yearning for their groom, the church. There is no way to get catholics totally off your back but you should not contemplate the joys of thinking of God if you want to keep their presence to a minimum. It is suprising how well one gets along without a God, at least I am happier I find, to my suprise, and not because i am more sinfull, enjoy more so called vices but because i happen to do what i enjoy now, which has little to do with having or not a God . rose macaskie.

I think Bill Maher had an affair with a clergyman as a child, otherwise he would not so viciously attack religion as opposed to just debating their validity. Harassing people for their religious beliefs is not what civilized people do.
Also belief in a supreme being that created the universe and belief in religion are not necessarily the same thing.
If you belive in the big bang theory where did the thing that blew up come from.

Religion is Dogma, all religions. Belief in ones Creator is Spirituality. All religions keep us separated, as they are meant to do this. No religion wants a person to have a relationship with Creator as one. To know this relationship is to know that we are Spiritual beings here to have human experiences together. That we all came from ONE that we are all ONE with or Creator. With religion you have to follow a practice that tells you your religion is better then the "OTHERS". Yea it tells you how to act think and pray and all sorts of other stuff but in the end, the "OTHERS" are wrong because they do not think like you. When you are in ONENESS you know better!!! You do not need a God Figure.

Bill Maher is an icon for the progressive world and understands the constant attacks on middle america which use to be the backbone of america but with the growing gap of insane politicans with sane ones we must all rely on people like Maher and Jon Stewart to provide a true glimpse of what is really destorying american values. Religion has always been controversial throughout american history and even our founding fathers like Jefferson, Franklin and Washington who were diest warned of how religion could destory our country without free speech. Bill is an informed and concern american with his own bias like most who agree with what benefits us, and atleast he like few in this country who actually stick to core values then flip flopping for what's popular. That's democracy.

Good grief, can someone on CNN's research team PLEASE help Piers Morgan prepare for the interviews you pay him to conduct??? It's embarrassing how unprepared he is – in this interview he actually asks Bill Maher if he is still Catholic (a question Bill scoffs at, and rightly so), and in the only other show of his I've seen he asks Barry Manilow what he was thinking when he wrote "Mandy," to which Manilow deadpans, "I didn't write Mandy." This guy commands no respect at all in the UK and you bring him in to fill Larry King's shoes? Fine, it's your money and your reputation, CNN, but at least respect your audience enough to make sure that he at least does his homework before the cameras start rolling.

GET HIM OFF the show. And he is annoyingly condescending. I can't stand to watch anymore of his interviews even when I like his guests ( and I must say his guests have been super tolerant of his jibber-jabber and constant interrupting).

Piers...your interview with Bill Maher drove me crazy....Maher keeps speaking about how smart Obama is and how dumb Bush was. Why didn't you challenge him on that point. Obama misprounced Navy Corpseman 2 times in a speech and did not even know that life begins at conception when asked by Pastor Rick Warren. Obama can't speak unless he has a teleprompter. You let Maher go on and on about our nation's debt not challenging him to see that our nation will c

Dean, in Piers defense, he has to be subtle. I think PM gave Maher enough rope to hang himself and he did, unless of course you're drinking the same Obama kool-aid. If PM does any better of a job, FOX will make him an offer. Mark my words. Piers Morgan is much to much a free thinker to stay at CNN, I saw the same thing happen with Glenn Beck, who started at CNN.

Challenge him on the point that Obama is smarter than Bush? A fourth grader is probably smarter than Bush – the reason Obama is having what can be argues to be the most challenging presidency in the history of our nation is because 8 years under Bush drove is so deep into debt and so astray in our military engagements in the middle east that it's up to Obama's administration to reverse the effects of his deleterious presidency. Obama mispronounced something and you're going to use that against him in a comparison with Bush? I honestly hope you're joking because there are, literally, HOURS upon HOURS of footage of Bush paying nothing short of a moron.
