Need to Know News: Extreme heat moves to East Coast; NFL lockout not over yet

Each day, we here at "Piers Morgan Tonight" put together the news you need to know – from what happened last night to what will happen today.

For July 22, 2011 – As heat index soars so does record-breaking power demand, stocks jump on debt talk, Pentagon ready to certify repeal of 'don't ask, don't tell...'

Extreme heat settles over portions of East Coast: "A heat wave blamed for as many as two dozen deaths settled over portions of the East Coast as the National Weather Service issued an extreme heat warning for much of the Mid-Atlantic, saying Friday would be the hottest day in the region. The highest heat index values - how hot it feels - could reach 115 degrees in some locations, the weather service said."

• As heat index soars, so does record-setting power demand: "The sweltering heat wave that has much of the United States in a stranglehold is stressing the nation's power grids to the max, according to energy officials."

• Stocks jump on debt talk: "U.S. stocks surged on Thursday, following news that European leaders reached an agreement to contain Greece's debt crisis. Gains were further fueled by reports that the White House and House Republicans may have reached an agreement regarding the country's deficit problems and the debt ceiling. Both the White House and House Speaker John Boehner's offices denied the reports."

• Pentagon set to certify repeal of 'don't ask, don't tell': "The Pentagon is set to certify that the U.S. military is prepared to accept openly gay and lesbian service members, and doing so will not harm military readiness, a U.S. official told CNN on Thursday."

• NFL labor deal still in limbo: "NFL owners overwhelmingly voted for a tentative agreement to end the lockout. Owners gave the players until Wednesday to re-certify, which raises more issues. The bitterness between the two parties that started in March has not subsided."

Piers, you are getting better and more confident but....................What I still dont like is the fact that you dont listen to your guests. You appers to have your scripted questions which you insist on asking rather than listening to your guests and what they have to say. Sometimes you actually cut them off in order to ask some question you have scripted. It gives the viewer the impressionthat you are not listening. LArry King or even Oprah...not particularly a fan of either but......were not like that. They listened to what his guests had to say. Infact sometimes LArry would let the quest go on talking and sometimes there is even a pause when he waits a little bit to see if the quest has something else to add.But not you. You sometimes cut them off before they finish answering your questions!!!!!!!! You need to watch that.
