George Lopez describes rough childhood, and where he keeps his grandmother's ashes

George Lopez is a guest on "Piers Morgan Tonight" this evening, and the comedian gets serious when he talks about his rough childhood – and his grandmother. "At least she was there," Lopez told Piers Morgan. "When it came time for her funeral, I cremated her and kept a little bit with me...I keep her in my dressing room."

Lopez got emotional as he described the promise he made to his grandmother before his grandfather died.

"I made her a promise in 1988 that I would take care of her after her husband died, and I did until she passed away," said Lopez. "I wish I would have told her there was nobody that loved her more, or anybody that would have protected her more than me."

Watch the full interview tonight at 9pmET/PT – including Lopez's take on Jay Leno, his recent divorce and more.

Isn't it funny that once someone gets a little money in their pocket....they start making all kinds of comments with zero justification and try and push their presence on other people.
Since you wish to move north(".....I've been south...")....the North Pole has plenty of room for you.....

I wish all these Hollywood celebrities would shut up. They are not going to move to Canada. Not that I think Sarah Palin should be president. I do like her and what she stands for. Maybe that is why Hollywood hates her because they have no morals. They are ulta liberal. I wish they would move to Canada and then see how good they have it here.I will even help them pack. Alec Baldwin said he was going to move,Whoopie said she was going to move if Bush got elected. He was elected twice and they are still here. Did they think people really cared if they left the country. Well we don't

George lopez says he wants to leave America. I say, call his bluff and offer him transportation to any other country in the world. I would say he should renounce his American citizenship – except I'm not sure he is really a citizen of this great Country.
If he is-- he should be counting his blessings everyday that he has been able to become very rich by telling second hand jokes & having his own Tv program.
This ingrate divorced his wife – who gave him the unbelievable gift of a kidney so he could keep on breathing and telling
    Bad (unfunny) jokes.
This jerk is now trying to get involved with politics. Piers Morgan should let Lopez know that the majority of Americans don't care where his Latino ass lives

Wow! "Not sure if he is a citizen, Latino ass" Sounds just a tad bit racist. You might want to tone it down a bit.

The quicker Lopez, and the rest of the Hollywood liberals, leave, the better off America is. These people are fools. They become rich in our country, but want to change the country. What kind of insanity is that?!

Last time I saw Lopez,he was organizing a protest to get the liberals in California to turn the water back on so the farmers crops wouldn't die because of some stinking minnow. They told him to stuff it.Looks like he likes a little abuse from his leaders.

George is welcome in Canada any time. We would be better for his presence. He is clearly thoughtful, intelligent and has a nice amount of self deprecation – the perfect Canadian ingredients.

I like Piers, but he owes it to his audience to be more thorough with his guests. Lopez talked about running for mayor of Los Angeles & how it just takes someone with ideas not with experience. Then when Piers asked him about his dislike of Sarah Palin, he said, "I like my politicians to have a political background." I'm no Palin supporter, but this kind of lack of depth is what has produced the Congress we have now. We don't need more people like Lopez who only want to promote their one interest – in his case, the HIspanic &/or immigration cause. I recognize there is limited time, but if it's only a liberal lovefest between Piers & his guests, I'm going to pass on watching.

It is disgusting. It is not journalism. It is just CHEAP tabloid.
Already a few months of tasteless shows, a few times a day repeated.
I am sure thazt this is not what CNN watchers azre looking for.
Pierce Morgan can somehow play a journalist. When he anchors, it goes somehow but even then he is NOT objective as a journalist should be but very biased.
The choice is probably the worst part of it. Let him make serious interviews and NOT garbage.

Yeah, you're right... we should be hearing how today the USA opposed Palestine's UN membership. But instead we get tabloid trash. Well, what do you expect? CNN is part of the Jewish controlled media... but I guess you already knew that.

Lopez, keep your day job. Los angeles mayor running with no political back ground ? Oh right, Palin was a governor but according to Lopez that isn't a real qualification . Now that's funny. Oh by the way , why don't you live in Mexico ? Don't spoil Canada !

Lopez is the guy who said, after his show was cancelled, "Now I guess TV will go back to being white again". Morgan's "research" on Lopez obviously didn't include this nugget of unabashed racism or any similar such remarks he makes regularly in his stand-up routine.

While the Canadian awaits Lopez to move north and better the country with his self-deprecating presence, may I suggest that thoughtful George bring 20 or so million more of his like-minded friends along with him? Now there's betterment on an monumental scale, for all concerned.

Don't worry, Lopez won't be going to Canada for good anytime soon. Palin has a better chance of posing nµde in Playboy than getting reelected as mayor of Wasilla, much less becoming POTUS.

Lopez is a sad, unhappy, bleedin heart with no care for anyone. If we wanted to here his problems and whining we would have asked, really!!! Just lost another viewer

Really george??? What "political background" did Obama have before he was running against McCain and palin. He use the same damn excuse. Also, the reason we have a problem with people understanding the English language here I'd because they are LEGAL..don't pay taxes..have no drivers way to track them....that's why you have to be LEGAL to pay for crimes, public schools, social security, and everything else every f-ing American payed for damn it!!!!!!

Piers Morgan should be embarrassed by the weak questions he posed to George Lopez. He said he would ask Lopez about immigration, but I did not hear a single meaningful question. Did he ask Lopez what he would do about illegal immigration? How would address the 11 million illegals living in the United States? Would he require all illegal immigrants seeking legal status to learn to speak English. He wants to be mayor of LA where over 40% of LA residents do not speak English.

Ummm.... correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Lopez a US born comedian? (Neither an immigrant, nor a policy maker.) Why would you want to drill him on immigration policy? GEEZUS! Not even the US Congress want to talk about immigration. Obama promised to reform our immigration policy during his campaign. But now that is so far off the map it's not funny. In fact, that one broken promise will cost Obama the Latino vote in 2012.

....Ok, you are wrong. Morgan stated he wanted to ask Lopez about immigration. And Lopez had said he wanted to be mayor of LA, with a massive immigration problem. So Morgan owes his audience better questions and Lopez owes at least some thoughtful replies beyond immigration is a problem, there is a demand for work fulfilled by illegals and Latinos are a growing political power because they are the largest minority. Lopez criticizes Obama's lack of progress on immigration but offers nothing but common facts on the topic. You are right that Lopez is a comedian, and based on what I heard becoming mayor of LA would be his biggest joke.

Oh..wait obama was a new comer in the senate and palin was the governor of Alaska..I would say either had an advantage over the other when in comes to experience. As far as I am concerned, the more LEGAL immigrants coming, the better! As long as they have done what every other person coming to this country is required to do..BY LAW!!

You're right. Obama's resume includes – visiting professor,. 2 year state senator, 4 years US senator (2 years running for president, 2 years voting "Present"). And this is who Georgie thinks is a genius? Says a lot about this guy who probably thinks Hugo Chavez is a righteous dude for the people. Shut up Georgie, you're not that smart. And please move to Canada anyway.

No offense to the host, but he does look 10 yrs older than Lopez. He should fix (or at least clean) his teeth a lose the 2nd chin. No one I know believes he's in his 40s, and if he really is, he's got a bit of work to do. His viewers need to look at him, he doesn't.

I like George Lopez (he's a funny guy), but I have to say that I've met Jay Leno, and while I won't go into the exact details, I met him at a fast food restaurant in Los Angeles when I was depressed over a bad break-up, and he went way out of his way to be nice to me. He had an antique car, and he was siting there with a bunch men in suits... and he took time out to step away from them and do me a huge personal favor... one that I'll always remember. Let's just say that Leno is far from being a jerk. I like Conan too, but I see that whole Leno-O'Brian thing as business.

Bye Lopez! I would love, love, love to help you pack on your way to Canada. You have to produce your own show for a reason, bud. No one likes you! You're constant and continuous ugly comments about other people show your dark heart and people are sick of so much darkness in the world. No question why your wife left you. Bye!

A word of advise. Tonight with Larry King, I would even try to attempt slanting that either of you are not politically biased.
Both of you could be excellent propagandists for Media Matters. In fact you are. So please spare us any attempt to maintain that your careers, although entertaining, have been impartial in the slightest.
