Newt Gingrich's "big mistake": Hiring "traditional consultants, and I'm not a traditional candidate"

Presidential candidate Newt Gingrich is a guest on "Piers Morgan Tonight" this evening, and he talks about Herman Cain, Pres. Barack Obama, the media and more. He also reflects on the beginning of his campaign. "I made a big mistake in the spring," he tells Piers Morgan. "I brought in very smart, traditional consultants, and I’m not a traditional candidate."

Gingrich says the campaign "got off track" for four months, but the vacation he took that caused many in his staff to leave was the "perfect thing to do." "Those people needed to leave. They had a vision of a traditional campaign, which I couldn’t possibly run," he said. Watch the full interview tonight, 9pmET – also, the latest on the Cain allegations.

No chance in hell would I ever vote for him or any other republicon period end of story besides all Gingrich is doing is shopping for his next bimbo wife I believe that would be wife number 4.

      • The GOP has to win in November.

And yet I am sure you would vote for Bill Clinton by the way how many people did he do when he was running for President and while he was in office? Atleast Newt would marry the person!

The man asked for God's forgiveness for his sins. Why is that not good enough for you for a mistake that happened over 17 years ago?

Let's discuss Newt's career as Speaker of the House. Have we all forgotten that he wrote 32 unauthorized checks against government funds and was forced to resign as Speaker in order to avoid censure or worse. He has publicly stated that as a married man he had an affair with his current wife who was an intern at the time. His excuse for that is that he loved his country so much he overworked and that caused him to have the affair. Well, if you buy that one, what do you suppose he will say about writing the unauthorized checks? Also what about his famous "Contract With America" that he never fulfilled. This man has no morals and is not to be trusted around taxpayer money. Do you really want him to be in charge of our nation's economy?

Newt got run out of the House by his own party. His parting shoot was that he refused to lead a bunch of cannibals. He totally betrayed them and they didn't like it then and won't stand behind him now. If you really want to know about Newt and his real name, go to:

If Gingrich is the genius he purports to be why would he have hired those consultants in the first place?

The straight answer is whatever his thinking at the time, it wasn't working now he comes up with this lame excuse about a poor fit between the candidate and the consultant. Gingrich has been in politics far too long for this excuse to have any credibility.

He is an arrogant, bombastic gasbag that would serve the country well by going far, far away.

Sounds like a typical liberal / Progressive / aka Communist reply. When the liberals attack, you know there's substance there to attack. Way to go, Newt. Liberals are afraid of you! They should be. Form and substance with class - and NO TELEPROMPTER. The man thinks and speaks for himself. Now how many states in the U.S.?

No, Liberals attack when there is a wrong or injustice to attack. Conservatives attack when they are afraid, when they see that there is no other way of forcing their opinions and beliefs on someone else.

People, start using your own brains for just a little while and truly think about what makes a good President.
Then you'll realize Newt Gingrich is the only person running that is truly qualified for the job.
He doesn't need talking heads to help him come up with answers, every other candidate does (including our current president).
He has more knowledge of this country and international policy than anyone.
And because he thinks on his own can take on any other leader on the planet and get the best for all Americans.
And that's what we really want!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Amen to that! How many of you that criticize Newt, could tolerate all the attack ads "Slick Mitt" spent millions on to degrade Newt and bring doubt about him in the voters minds? Now Newt is asking perfectly valid questions about Romney's business record and what he did and also his claim of being a true conservative. Doubts about his background should be examined just as Newt's background has been laid bare and why not? I say Newt has a perfectly valid reason to ask these questions!!! Romney is running for president and these are questions that have to be answered! Newt has been patient...asked Romney to knock off the negative ads...and there was no response but more negative ads. Now it's time for Newt to change tactics and fight back and I agree! There are a hoard of issues that need to be talked about concerning Romney's past as a governor and businessman that SCREAM he is NO conservative! Newt is a true conservative that has the experience and expertise to be our next president of the USA!! YOU GO NEWT!!!!

Obama easily dpsoises of Gingrich. Mitt could beat Obama. Obama's personal approvals are still high, and given the economy his state polls show many paths to 270. Demographics are in his favor too. If the economy improves a bit in 2012, he may have an easy victory. The electorate in a Presidential year is different than in an off year. OWS could also motivate the youth who certainly have not shifted to the GOP. I suspect Gingrich will self-destruct before he can be nominated. Romney vs. Obama would actually put two very good people against each other.

Newt is very smart and very qualified to be president. I see many people bringing up decade old baggage that newt himself admits to, he says he has matured and learned a lot from those years as speaker. I think most people don't yet know the newt of today and they will be quite impressed once they start to really hear what he has to say.

I remember seeing Newt tell an interviewer that the reason he committed adultery was because he was working so hard for his country. I guess this means that, if he becomes President, we should limit his work day to, what, five hours? Six hours? I mean, at what point does Newt HAVE to commit adultery?

Please access Speaker Gingrich's website and read the fascinating story behind 2 + 2 =4 and 'when authority cannot the truth'. Speaker has the abitlity to weave the past, the present and a glimpse of the future due to his knowledge of history. He ask that we be with him not for him. The skeletons in his closet have emerge for all to see. His infidelities and discrections are exposed. He does not make excuses rather asks that we judge for ourselves. We have an incredible opportunity to elect a fine statesman next year. I would be honored to have this man as our next President of the United States. I like to think God is giving all of us, including Newt, another chance to save our country.

I invent things that help our patients get better faster. I have been following Newt for 12 years because he understands American healthcare policy better than anybody I know. He told me years ago that we kill the equivalent of two 747's filled with people every day because of medical mistakes!

I saw the guy come up with a rational plan to balance the budget in his Contract for America (which he worked with President Clinton). Then followed that up with the stupidity of the impeachment joke. (I'd take either one of those guys and working together, watch out!)

Yeah, he has Herman Cain-sized "relationship" issues, but we all know about them and will write off any jerk who tries to use those against a genuine candidate.

A deadly serious guy who is probably the smartest in the room with by far the most successes and experience in federal government. A guy I want on my side to clean up a dangerous mess our past few leaders have caused. I want my country back and possibly this is the guy to do it! I don't know who I support (including our President), but if you are serious, you will take a serious look at a serious guy who just might help us out.

I was stunned when I heard Newt talk about 20 Trillion dollars that America could face in costs due to Alzheimers and he proposed a plan to cut that cost by 50% and save 10 Trillion! I was also inspired to hear him say that the next greatest breakthroughs would occur in Brain-Research and that America should position itself become the world-leader in the most important industry of the future. This is a totally different kind of politician. I think this is the kind of forward-looking world-class solutions oriented leadership that any country needs. And Newt also talks about uniting the 100%, and not taking sides with either the 1% or the 99%. I'm just going all-in for Newt; he's got impressive command of all topics that require national attention.

I am no Republican but everyone who is running including Obama, doesn't hold a stick to Gringrich. He ha dealt with both sides of both Houses in a positive way. While he makes mistakes, his rational is based on conviction of views that he has developed over the years. No other candidate can say that..Obamas Health Care mess was one of his greatest ideological acheivements. Gringrich understates these issues with depth and experience, more then Obama or anyother Candidate.

I don't agree with the right wing or the left wing but rather the middle, Gringrich will lean to the right for the election, but his views will be more centered after he is elected. That is why in my opinion he his going to win.

Actually, Glenn, you got it backwards. He is tending towards the middle, because the GOP has realized that is the only way to get elected. Once in office, the race back to the right will be at the speed of light.

The circus just goes on and on. Now the guy who was kicked out of the House, who wants child slave labor working for the 1%, who is twice divorced and who had an extra-marital affair with his current wife… hopes to gain the most from all of this. AMAZING!! More than ever, as I look at the sorry set of Republican “rivals” on the other side, I am THANKFUL to have Barack Obama as President, and candidate for re-election. Mr. Obama: your heart, your values, and your basic decency are all in the right place. But your hands are tied by a Congress that just lets the 99% BLEED, and then blames you. These people have no shame, or else it’s been purchased by those that can afford to do so. Heck, in her last years, Grandma gets a meager Social Security check, and they DARE to call it “socialism”. Give me a break! ...and Grandma too. Instead of LESS government, instead of LESS taxes on the 1%, instead of MORE corporate welfare, and instead of MORE painful cuts to those who can LEAST afford it....we need a government that WORKS, a government that works FOR ALL OF US, not just for a favored few....NOT just for the rich. And that’s why we need to elect a Congress that will work with President Obama in his second term-instead of sabotaging both him and 99% of the American people. Mr. Obama: you STILL give us hope.

What a joke......just the new talking points that was laid out to the Republican "con"didates think tank last month, who were advised to act as though they are not of the traditional Conservative credo. All political BS. Newt, at this point is pretending to veer towards the center of moderate politics, which is what the GOP realizes is the only chance in hell to maybe win in 2012. Rest assured, the GOP does not and will not tolerate moderates in the White House. Once elected, Newt would steer right back to the far right. Big Military and major cuts to Social Services, including Social Security Privatization.

Despite the obsession with the Individual Mandate, it is not the crux of the Obamacare angst. The crux is the tvaeoker, by the Federal Govt, of a whole sector of the economy that needs to be governed as a free market (which it is not, at present). In addition, the COST of Obamacare was deceitfully uber-understated in another example of Washington corruption. As an aside, the amount of new bureaucracy dedicated to minority coddling and class warfare is ridiculous. This is the NUMBER ONE issue in the 2012 election, and if the GOP candidate cannot convince us that it is his (or hers), it will probably blow the election open with a third party a true disaster. However, Obamacare is really NUMBER TWO the true NUMBER ONE issue is BHO, and he must go.

Newt needs to be honest himself about his career and legacy while Speaker of the House. I am old enough to remember his misdeeds and how he lost many votes for Republicans. Also his morals remain in doubt. He is double faced, just look at him while he speaks, his look says I can fool you and I am better than you.

The only reason that Newt wanted to run a positive campaign is that he did not have enough money in his campaign to compete. He has used his "be nice" campaign to put off the others until he had the money. That is the only reason – he is a sneaky backroom politician who used this method to get into the campaign late.

Provided the money was not ill-gotten, why do you want to make it your business where Newt spends or how much he spends. The money belongs to him, not the state. that he will repeal Roe V Wade, good luck with the fmalee vote if he feels that way. He gets an F on Immigration of all the candidates, same as Obama has. And saying that he will send all Illegals packing, is actually an impossible task. So there goes the Hispanic vote.He says that Iran or any other country that wants a Nucleur Bomb has a right to have them. Eve in the face of the Iranian Mullahs saying that if they get the Bomb they will use it to wipe Israel off the face of the earth. And is nome of his interviews, he has made some gaffees that make Joe Biden look like a intellectual giant. His wanting to turn the US into an Isolationist country and close down all the bases we have throughout the world is another big scare. Did not we do that after WWI and get reminded that if we stay hjome our enemies build to harm us? If Paul gets the Nomination, Obama will indeed win. And his threat of running as an independent again if he does not get the nod, makes it even worse.
