Mark Wahlberg on being a father: "The most important role that I'll ever play"

Tonight Mark Wahlberg sits down with Piers Morgan tonight to talk about his new film "Contraband," out in theaters today. He opens up about his greatest joy, his tattoos and much more. Wahlberg served 45 days in jail after assaulting two men when he was 16 years old. He decided to change his ways and never looked back. So what does Wahlberg say is the only reason he would ever go back to prison? "If I had to do something to protect my family."

He is committed to his family first before anything else. "It's obviously the most important role that I'll ever play as father and husband," Wahlberg says. "I will not fail." Tune in at 9pm ET/PT to hear more about how he is putting his family first.

Mark Wahlberg is one of my and my wife's favorite actors. His own life story is inspirational and glad to see that he now has his priorities 100% in order.

After watching Mark Wahlberg's interview... he is the perfect example and role model for other men! He has even renewed my faith in the Catholic male! I was in love with him before I saw the intrview and now I find him inspirational! The greatest gift you can give your children is to love their mother! His is the only marriage in hollywood that will make it!!

I agree. What a courageous man! He is unashamedly pro-God, pro-family, pro-this country. The whole interview was great. One of the so very few in Hollywood not ashamed of having morals. So impressed. His wife and children will benefit from his courageous stand. Like the movie 'Courageous" asks, "Where are you men of courage?" Mark has answered the call.

Am now watching the story about Red Tails. Bizarre that no one has mentioned the first version of this movie.

Piers – thank you for a great interview with Mark W. tonight – you asked exactly what the viewers would have asked, yet in a professional and genuine way.

GREAT GUY... Inspirational for sure. However, how does 45 days in a juvenile detention center equate into a prison sentence, or jail term. It is misleading to imply that Mark has reformed himself via the above. More to the truth would be that his brother Donnie opened a door of opportunity for Mark, and he took full advantage of that opportunity, Thus, as a result thereof, He bloomed into the inspiring man that he is today. Beleive me, With, or without help from anyone, Mark has without a doubt overcome tremendous hurdles, and made immense sacrafices to get where he is today. I don't know the man, but I am familiar with his part of the city. He is a miracle, He beat the odds, and rightfully so, He should hold his head up high with pride. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY MARK...You deserve every good thing that comes your way.

To be honest, he did ierecve a pretty battered economy and 2 illegal wars to drag the US out of. You can only measure him based on how much he has progressed.Charlie

What matters is what the persident does, not what he says.Recently he called for a ‘swift, co-ordinated and aggressive effort' to help the stricken people of Haiti. An Israeli field hospital from the other side of the world is now in place in Haiti doing a fully professional job.The fact that there is no American equivalent from much closer to home is distinctly worrying.

This post is directed to Piers Morgan. After having watched many political comentary shows on various channels, I find it fascinating and frustrating tha none of these shows ever interact with average Americans and seek their concerns, advice and solutions as to what ails this country. Instead we are treated to a plethora of intellectual talking heads who TALK AT US, and attempt to influence our thoughts thru their 'name brandedness." I am talking about: politicians, former politicians, party operatives, lobbyists, movie stars, etc... Why, in heavens name, does nobody recruit the very people you discuss, to TALK WITH? You might isolate one night a week, with a scripted set of questions, to elicit responses to their concerns and advice. Maybe then we could begin a reformation process, based on the thoughts, advice, and solutions, OF THE PEOPLE, you actually represent... Submiitted for your consideration.

You, and perhaps ppoele that have lot's of free time on their hands. O'Reilly, Hannity and Beck should not be thought of as political figures. Anyone with half a brain knows that they are entertainers. Do you hear conservatives saying that Maddow and Olberman are political figures? Goodness, no. Fox does not have liberal bias. MSNBC is terribly tainted by the liberal media. CNN has a liberal slant but isn't nearly as bad as msNBC. I almost didn't even answer this question as it is surely going to be reported by someone on violation of a rant.

Piers, In case the above wasn't clear. Interview the people who form the foundation of this country: teachers like me, firemen, law enforcement, nurses, contractors, doctors, service workers, etc... If you really want to know the concerns of American society, then go to the source of that foundation.

Glen, I agree with you that actors certainly aren't representative of what this country is. Many are so spoiled rotten and have no clue what it's like not to be able to afford a pack of gum. But be honest with yourself, CNN needs viewers. If CNN is interviewing Joe Schmo, a construction foreman from the Midwest while CBS is interviewing Tom Hanks, what channel do you think Americans will tune in to? The fact is, these people get to be rich and have everything because they are who America cares about. As harsh as it sounds, your fellow citizens (and especially news anchors) really don't care about you. The only time ordinary citizens will have stories done about them is during tragedy, when it is newsworthy. A post on the CNN blog will not cause a shift in American opinion.

Okay I missed the point. This was an excellent interview. Great questions Piers, and Mark is a class act. Clearly he reevaluated what is important, put God and family first, and has become an excellent role model for his young fans.

Gosh...any chance Mark could talk to my husband, a Catholic male who took a "different" path, walked out on wife and kids and now obviously leads a fairly empty life, that w/o God and family, there's little point in putting one foot in front of the other? I know, a tall order. Thank you Piers, and than you Mr. Wahlberg for the interview and insight!

Please also put this on TV :Motivation + access > peeceivrd riskWhat motivates teens to engage in prescription drug abuse? Ultimately, their desire for getting high outweighs their perception of the risks.12 to 17 year olds abuse prescription drugs more than they abuse ecstasy, crack/cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine combined60% of teens who have abused prescription painkillers did so before age 15There are as many new abusers age 12 to 17 of prescription drugs as there are of marijuanaEvery day, 2,500 teenagers use a prescription drug to get high for the first time. They're accessing these drugs in the comfort of home; it can be as easy as opening a cupboard, drawer, or medicine cabinet. The good news there are steps you can take to help protect your kids from prescription drug abuse: monitor, secure and dispose. This site, created by Abbott and The Partnership for a Drug-Free America, shows you how.

The subsequent time I read a weblog, I hope that it doesnt disappoint me as much as this one. I mean, I do know it was my option to read, but I really thought youd have one thing attention-grabbing to say. All I hear is a bunch of whining about something that you may fix for those who werent too busy in search of attention.
