Chris Christie on the perception Mitt Romney is too reserved: "I have told him that I think it benefits him to get out there more"

This evening New Jersey Governor Chris Christie sits down with Piers Morgan for a candid and enlightening interview. Mitt Romney's top surrogate, Christie uses his exclusive appearance on "Piers Morgan Tonight" to defend claims that his candidate lacks desire.

Asked by Morgan why Romney isn't "beating his chest more," or appearing as though he "wants this more," Christie clarifies:

"I don't think anybody could come to the conclusion he doesn't want it. I mean, this guy works incredibly hard, extraordinarily hard, to get out and meet people and to...to win votes."

However, the Garden State Governor does maintain that Romney could benefit from a more outward approach, and has advised him as such:

"Governor Romney is a reserved kind of guy. And I think people need to get him...to know him more. I have told him that I think it benefits him to get out there more and let people see the family side of him, see him as a father, as a husband, as a grandfather."

Tune in to "Piers Morgan Tonight" this evening at 9pm ET/PT as the New Jersey Governor reveals more of his thoughts on the former Massachusetts governor, and also explains why his personal position on same-sex marriage is not bigoted.

i am sorry mr. morgan that you had to interview such a smart mouthed person such as christie. it is easy to tell he's covering his backside to run for president some year. no one will vote for such an obese man who is an idiot! –and rude–not an appealing person–thank you.

Great job Gretchen! You attack the messenger and not the message. This is why anyone reading your comments would judge you to be an idiot, for if you had a brain, you would argue against his positions. Instead you call him names. This probably explains why you are most likely an angry SINGLE person.

Based upon my viewing of Piers Morgan's interview with Gov. Christie, Piers Morgan again proved what a light weight he is and does not deserve to be on CNN. In simple terms, Gov. Christie ate his lunch and made Morgan pay the bill. Additionally, Morgan's questions proved that he has no original thoughts of his own but rattled off the talking points of the other networks. For example, Morgan referenced the GM bailout. He stated the bailout saved the auto industry or GM, yet most finance experts and bankruptcy lawyers state that the auto industry would have file for bankruptcy protection, operated under this protection and would have been able to renegotiate its union contracts. Who knows how much more successful GM would have been by cutting costs, unfortunately we will never know now that the UAW controls GM. By the way, this is why I will never buy a GM car for as long as I live.

Lastly, Christie defended specific position he has taken on the basis of his principals. Morgan questioned this statement on the basis of political expediency to which Gov. Christie reiterated his position. Morgan's insistence of a different answer revealed Morgan's failure to be a principled individual and in fact reveals him without character. This reflects on CNN and unfortunately will affect my continued viewing.

      Miguel,
Do you not realize that GM did file for bankruptcy? Insulting Gretchen just reveals that you are as crude as Gov. Christie. One does not have to act like a neanderthal man to make his point.

Stumbled across Morgan's interview of Gov Christie tonight, watched account admire Christie. Truly enjoyed it, as the Gov didn't knuckle under to Morgan, in fact didn't give an inch, still one of the best stand-up guys around. My take – Morgan looked like a impudent hack; the Gov came out smellin' like a rose!
