Need to Know News: Obama apologizes to Afghanistan for Quran burning; Romney jabs at Santorum's record in CNN debate

Each day, we here at "Piers Morgan Tonight" put together the news you need to know – from what happened last night to what will happen today.

For February 23, 2012 – President Barack Obama apologizes to Afghanistan for Quran burning, Mitt Romney jabs at Rick Santorum's record in CNN debate and a jury recommends 26 years for ex-lacrosse player...

• Obama apologizes to Afghanistan for Quran burning: "President Barack Obama apologized to Afghan President Hamid Karzai for the burning of Qurans by NATO troops, calling the act an inadvertent error, Karzai's office and National Security Council spokesman Tommy Vietor said Thursday."

Romney jabs at Santorum's record in CNN debate: "Mitt Romney, who has been front-runner off and on through the campaign but saw his momentum blunted by Rick Santorum's recent surge, went after the former Pennsylvania senator over his record in Congress, trying to shoulder past him before Tuesday's primaries in Arizona and Michigan, which most polls show neck-and-neck between the two."

• Midair helicopter collision kills 7 Marines: "Two helicopters collided midair during a training exercise, killing seven Marines, the U.S. Marine Corps said Thursday. Wednesday night's crash occurred during routine training operations at the Marine Corps air station near Yuma, Arizona, the Marine Corps said in a statement."

• Fear of Iran is inflating gas prices: "Tensions with Iran are adding at least 30 cents to a gallon of gasoline in the United States, and experts say gas prices have only just begun to rise. Gasoline prices have surged over 10% in the last two months, largely tracking the runup in oil prices, which have increased by a similar amount and are now at a 9-month high."

• Jury recommends 26 years for ex-lacrosse player: "A jury late Wednesday recommended a prison sentence of 26 years for a former University of Virginia lacrosse player convicted of second-degree murder and grand larceny in the death of his ex-girlfriend. George Huguely was found not guilty on the most serious charge - first-degree murder - in the May 2010 death of Yeardley Love, 22. "

Why apologize for burning religious books? When the Jews forcefully grabbed thousands of Bibles from Christians in Israel and burnt them in a large pile a few years ago, did any American – especially those so-called "powerful" Evangelical pastors – have the guts to demand an apology from the Jews or Israel?

    • Wake up

      Wake up.

Let truth set you free. Christianity has a long standing history in Palestine, and Palestinian Christians and Muslims got along so did the Jewish people once before the occupation. 3 trillion of our US dollars tax dollars goes to support Israel yet we have no say how our tax dollar is spent, we are afraid of Israel silly thats why we never stand up to them. We are getting poor fight wars for who ? Oops! now CNN will block and me why????????

      Dear Devoneco:

It isn't a question, of who has the gutts to speak up, But, rather, it takes wisdom, to determine the time and/or the place, to fight our battles. Besides, Books are paper, and The WORD of GOD is already written upon, the tablets, of our hearts. Did you 'erase' yours, or do you just simply 'ignore' yours? Don't allow your 'pride' to seperate you from the commandments of GOD, for pride will surely cause you to fall. (fail) "Shun the very appearance of 'Evil'."

      GOD Holy Light

This is by far the most ignorant thing that a soldier could do. To disrespect anothers religion is striking a mass of people on a very low chourd. It is unacceptable and I believe there should be very high consequences for these actions. Being a former soldier myself and served two terms in Afghanistan myself (as an infantyman) am very appauld by these disgusting acts. These privates (which I am very sure these are the actions of) should be court marshalled and booted out by the very least.

And to any of you cushy, self centered, ignorant americans who think this is "ok" because someone else did this to us or whatever your reasoning, you need to grow up and check your moral structure. There is never a good enough reason to disrespect anothers religion by any means. This makes me so downright revolted and embarrassed that I even live in this country, much less fought for this country to hear people voice such ignorant opinions. I will not be surprised if ALL coalition forces pull out and discontinue support for us for being so childish. I actually encourage all NATO to drop and pull out ASAP. Along with all the locals who support us through interpetating and so fourth. The most ironic part of all this, is the fact that this little incident happened in Bagram... where a bunch of fobits get "bored" and do stupid things as such. You know what i would have done to be able to eat ice cream and McDonalds for a year in Afghanistan? to be able to have a night inside bed and internet and a phone. I got to sleep in a goat bin for a year and got in no less than 30 firefights. These soldiers who are living it up in the FOBS should be put to work and have alot more to do with thier time rather than have an oppurtunity to do ignorant things with thier time.

    Just my 3 cent 😀

      Dear Sean:

You are one of the reasons, that I am so proud to be an American. Even after all that war, you manage to keep your morals entact, and you are a shining light to all who see, hear and know you. May GOD bless you and yours forever!

      Thank You,

      Dear Dave:

When you become the President, of the United States, and are able to walk (2) two miles, in the same shoes and Mr. Obama, then maybe you will understand; how hard it is to defuse several 'Extremely Hot' social fires, at the same time; then you can possibly criticize him. However; It is written: . . . whatever you sew that shall you also reap. So be careful how you judge him. Besides President. Obama has confessed as it is written and biblically required; (paraphrased) that "Jesus Christ is his savior", and Christ has come, in the flesh". Which proves He is of GOD, by his words. And he lives accordingly, with good religion. (Following Peace with all men) Showing love and mercy, daily..

      Ranting, no, voicing my opinion.....

Apparently you dont understand the English language since you spelled "you're" as "your"
Its ok to be uneduated in todays society, majority of people are. Otherwise we would'nt be on this page talking about this subject. It would have probably been a topic on a much brighter side 🙂

I can post whatever i feel necessary in this comment box as long as I do not violate the terms of service, so to called it ranting... well jokes on you my friend 🙂

CNN is blocking my comments so if you truely feel that way, you obviously have no experience to see what the world is and have no ethics or well, in that case no education to say such a childish remark.

Woah! I'm really enjoying the template/theme of this blog. It's simple, yet effective. A lot of times it's challenging to get that "perfect balance" between user friendliness and visual appeal. I must say that you've done a very good job with this. Additionally, the blog loads extremely fast for me on Firefox. Excellent Blog!
