Sean Stone on Mahmoud Ahmadinejad: "I don't care if he believes in the Holocaust"

On Thursday, Piers Morgan welcomed Sean Stone for a candid, and revealing interview, during which the filmmaker shared his unique perspectives on the Middle East.

The son of legendary director Oliver Stone, young Stone recently converted to Islam while in Iran, and has had meetings and discussions with current Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

When asked why a man of Jewish upbringing would be interested in spending time with a leader who calls the Holocaust a "big deception," Stone offered his stance:

"Regardless if he believes it or not, it does not justify – to our thinking at least – the occupation of the West Bank, and the fact that the Palestinian situation has not been resolved in that region," explained Stone. "I don't care if he believes in the Holocaust. I don't want to see our country go to war."

As the fascinating interview continued, The 27-year-old director expressed his hopes for peace and nonviolence, while attempting to clarify what he considers to be untruths regarding the Middle East.

"My issue, really, is I don't want to see our country go to war, and, you know, if it's going to be over the potential threat that Iran is to Israel, I would say that's a complete lie," explained Stone. "We are in a very dangerous situation – precarious situation – right now, if Israel gets the green light, and attacks preemptively Iran, the way that we preemptively attacked Iraq. That's what I'm most concerned about."

Watch the clip, and listen to the interview, as Stone offers more of his views on Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Iran, and Israel.

Who is this guy?? Why do you even invite this moron to your show? This idiot is not an academic, nor scholar, he is the son of has-been director!! Just because they direct movies does not make them smart enough to change the world! I mean, c'mon!!! He is not even the director of any movie!!!!! He is just trying to get attention and you gave it to him! To listen to this imbecile speak, he makes no sense, he has this stupid smirk on his face and he looks and sounds like Tori Spelling's husband!! Get real people to your interviews, people that can bring content, not this airhead stoner!!

Sammy- I would have to wholeheartedly disagree with you on the fact that Stone's comments are rubbish. His points are extremely valid actually. This threat of Iran has been blown completely out of proportion.

        Sara,
I am 60 and lived through the 60's when we grade schoolers were subjected to nuclear war drills (which WOULD NOT have saved our lives since there is no school drill to avoid radiation) and listened to the neocons try to talk us into a first strike nuclear war with Russia and China. Now we trade with them. You are SO RIGHT. Beating the war drums for attacking Iran are completely out of proportion. And Piers has shown himself to be a right wing radical neo con.

Nicely said Sara & Jansmoor. Thank you for making sense out of this. Piers Morgan is by far the worst interviewer I've ever watched on television. How he got to step into Larry King's footsteps is beyond me. He antagonizes his guests, asks idiotic questions, and comes off as someone who spends more time reading (or editing) glossy magazines than anything of substance. Mr. Stone was intelligent, forthcoming, and logical in his arguments. Piers clearly had an agenda, though sadly, he wasn't smart enough to execute it properly.

Blown out of proportion? 1. Iran makes a statement that they think Israel should be wiped off the face of the earth. 2. Iran starts researching and then enriching uranium. They say it is for energy, and yet they are int he middle east which sits on all the oil! So obviously it's not for energy. Yep, I would say that's a threat.

I'm not sure what you guys call "out pt proportion" but here are the facts: Iranian leaders have repeatedly threatened to wipe Israel from the map; Iran is doing everything it can to convince its population and the neighboring Arab states (as well as the rest of the world) that it is developing nuclear weapons; Iran has spent billions on intermediate- and long-range ballistic missiles that are virtually harmless without proper warheads; Israel does not have strategic bombers, aircraft carriers or millions of troops but it is widely believed to have several hundreds of nuclear devices; Israel will not sit idle waiting to be nuked but its means to defend itself are pretty limited; If Iran will be allowed to build a bomb its own population and the neighboring Arab states will demand its leaders to make true of their promises and destroy Israel. All this means that if Iran will not be stopped there will be a nuclear war in the Middle East which will turn the richest oil fields on the planet into a radioactive desert and will send the world economy into a crisis of unimaginable proportions... AND YOU CALL THIS "OUT OF PROPORTIONS"???

Nicely put Sara and Jannsmore, fact is, some people, seeing the words islam and iran, disregard what the gentleman has to say and become blind to the facts. I regard Sammy's comment to be baseless, Sean is infact highly educated and has every right to voice this opinion. He studied History at Princeton and Oxford.

plain, simple use of understanding and exploiting how the human brain functions.
sean happens to be in the middle of such resistance cuz he refused to be a product of such brainwashing.kudos!and that is

why he is taking the wrapping only, rejecting the lies and on its basis asking the right questions that come in any

Sammy, I think your comments are the ones that come off as ignorant here. Before speaking about someone you really should understand who they are. You have no interest in his history, his background or anything other than he was brought up by someone from Hollywood and that clearly offends you. Obviously what he said didn't bother you as much as how he was able to get there. Relax, we all use what was given to us in different ways and I think it's nice to see a young wealthy man brought up by a Hollywood director using their money and given power in a positive way rather than to get through the door at a club.

Stone's repsonse to Morgan that Israel should not occupy the west bank, is not at all related to ahMADinijad's anti -semitic views of Jews, Israel and the Holocaust. As fas as Stone's conversion to Islam – form a Jewish perspective he is still considered a Jew. He can denounce Jews and Israel till he is blue in the face – when the people come once again t tryo kill the Jews, they will call him a bloody Jew, and won't take into account his so-called conversion. Self loathing Jews are a sad minority. The Jews will survive !.. after all we're still around after all the attempts to wipe us out

Actually, the last war accomplished nothing because Iraq was one of the countries over there NOT involved in terrorism. Right after 9/11 we went to Afghanistan and then before we were able to track down osama, Bush pulled out and went to iraq. So of course that would not accomplish anything. In this case, the UN inspectors DID find evidence that Iran is enriching uranium. The excuse that an oil-rich state needs it for energy is laughable. They WILL use it when they finally figure out how to enrich it (I mean their closest Ally is Syria and they aren't exactly warm and fuzzy are they?) Do you want a country that said this: http://www.nytimes.com/2005/10/26/world/africa/26iht-iran.html to have a nuclear weapon?

Piers underestimated Sean Stone. he was for once unprepared and startled. Piers has changed recently. he is now saying and doing what the majority of hi audience like to see and hear rather than being the pragmatic, neutral, and legendary, if i may add, reporter that he once was.. Last night, he was unable to carry on the interview with Sean Stone and cut off Stone abruptly. Stone is bright and courageous.. with this interview, he gained the respect of the non-hypocrites.. there are far more serious threats to the US and western society than the remote third world Iran.. will Piers interview the CEO of The Carlyle Group anytime soon ? If media is about unveiling the truth, then show us Piers ! and stop cutting off people with the views of whom you happen to disagree..

Why do people like this imbecile get a platform? Who is he? What has he ever done in this world? Why is he pompous enough to think his conversion to Islam can "open a dialogue" that will change the world? Stone is so blinded by his own hubris, he can't even see that that misunderstood and loveable rogue, Ahmadinejad, just LOVES American morons like him. Doesn't get better than the enemy spreading the propaganda for him.

This man is educated FAR beyond his intelligence. He studied history at Princeton, I believe. Reminds me of "A Fish Called Wanda" when Jamie Leigh Curtis calls Kevin Kline an ape, and he says "apes don't read philosophy", and she responds, "Yes they do, Otto. They just don't understand it!"

Hopefully, you'll discover that in September, 2001 Afghanistan attacked the US killing 3000 American citizens and KNOWING PERFECTLY WELL THAT IT WAS A SUICIDAL ACT. I do not have any reason to believe that the views of Taliban leaders of Afghanistan in 2001 were any different from the views of Shia leaders of Iran today. BOTH were Muslims, BOTH ruled their respective countries in accordance to Sharia laws, BOTH were calling for Jihad... You'll be amazed how many new things you'll learn if you'll actually study and educate yourself... Good luck!

Unlike you, however, I realize that BOTH SIDES must be willing and able to negotiate for negotiations to succeed while only ONE SIDE can start and maintain a war. This means that as long as Iran is threatening to erase Israel from the map Israel will have to prepare to a possible Iranian attack.

its perfectly true that if u lie too much,it becomes the truth or at least people start to believe it to be true..9/11 was a false flag operation, smaller damage to achieve greater advantage,an excuse to attack afghanistan and iraq..why dont you guys ask why NORAD didnt act in time when normally if a flight goes off course for 60 seconds its security activates when even the time between the north and south tower attack was around 17 minutes,i guess and neither NORAD nor American air force were able to counter attack and at least save the second tower from being hit..im sorry if your own security agencies failed so miserably to protect you from your government's offensives, you should ask why, imperatively because u say you are educated..and since when does the afghan govt of that time have anything to do with 9/11??? it has always been alqaeda NOT afghanistan or its government that was ever linked to 9/11..you might as well wanna set the record straight after 11 years..so they never did anything suicidal..just a false flag operation conducted successfully and mission accomplished..after so many years of the crusade, the "war of terror",that bush started and obama seems to want to continue because the people who have long been conditioned by the media and politicians to always feel fearful and paranoid, vote to those who apparently attempts to make them secure again nobody cares to see what the mortality rate of these wars is and how outrageously it outnumbers the around 3000 people who the american government killed in the 9/11 attacks..exactly like nobody cares about the holocaust that takes place in gaza almost everyday since more than 6 decades now but they still remember the european holocaust that happened once but the price for which palestinians pay everyday...

This was easily one of Piers WORST interviews ever. If his goal was to tell the American public he's a neocon war monger, he succeeded. If his goal was to any degree journalism, it was so lacking. Ahmadenajad is not the brightest bulb on the tree but to extrapolate from that we should destroy the Iranian civilization is a hundred times more lunatic fringe than Ahmadenajad. As Sean Stone CORRECTLY pointed out, Ahmadenajad does NOT control the country – he is NOT a dictator. He has NO control over Iran's military. He is elected but he is only a figurehead.

To say we should invade Iran and bankrupt ourselves over this is the absolute height of crazy. It's like China saying they should destroy America because Romney claims China is America's enemy. I am 60 and lived through the nuclear attack drills of the 60's when the right wing crazies wanted us to attack Russia and Red China because they allegedly 'posed a threat.' And what is the reality? We have nuclear arms treaties with Russia and buy billions of dollars worth of goods from China.

Piers, where were you in the 60's? Where is you understanding of recent history? For that matter, where are you now? There are no leaders in the world who are crazier than the leaders of North Korea. There are no leaders in the world who are less concerned with the welfare of their own people. Yet, even they know an attack on the US would lead to their utter destruction. It's called DETERRENCE Piers and history has shown it works much better than "Preventive War." And America – what is up with you people? What on earth makes you want to send your children and fortune to evaporate in Iran, while killing untold innocent people who actually like America?

Very well said Jannsmoor.the Zionist are working hard and making up these wars to achieve their goals of more money and power at the cost of American lives and other innocent people.

in 1954 CIA on behalf of British bp company in Iran successfully removed the democratic elected prime minster called mosadeg who nationalized oil industry from power to control oil.

unfortunately because of CIA acts Iranian people since 1954 have not seen democracy.a lots of suffering and loss from Iran-Iraq war which saddam after been captured confessed that he was encouraged to start the war by american.

after 9/11 Israel proposed to make a coalition force which could include America,Israel,British,France and some other countries to attack countries who support terrorist like Iran,Syria,Iraq, Afghanistan.... etc.. that made me think who is going to benefit from 9/11.of course the proposal was not accepted.

nobody ever criticise Israel about proposing of attacking other countries who are against their invasions and aggressions.

the most important war mongers tools which are media are working hard again to start another possible war they are already making more profit from the increase in oil prices also they are watching the upcoming election in united state and will support whoever that would listen to them for going to war like George Bush but American people need to wake up and learn from passed wars which has brought disasters for millions of people including american who have lost their children over nothing and also have to pay for all the costs through taxes.

In 1917 Germany successfully removed the democratic government in Russia and installed the Bolshevik regime (at least, to the same degree the CIA removed the government of Iran). As a result, the Russians did not see democracy for 70 years. If it a good enough reason for the Russians to hate Germans TODAY?

In 1939 Germany started WWII in which more than 50 million people were killed. Is it a good enough reason for the Europeans to have Germany TODAY?

In 1945 the Soviets occupies East Europe and installed puppet Communist regimes there. Is it a good enough reason for the Poles, the Bulgarians, the Romanians, the Czechs and others to hate the Russians TODAY?

If you answer NO to all these question you'll realize how stupid the argument about the CIA involvement in the restoration of monarchy in Iran back in 1953 is.

Thinker 23 Israel did attacked Iraq nuclear facility during Iran-Iraq war whithout being attacked first,
Iraq could not get involeved with another war at the time and it has been prooved that Iraq nuclear facility was not capable of making nuclear weapon.also bombed Syria nuclear facility witout any solid proof that was a treat to them only on assumptions.
none of these countries ever said clearly that they want to wipe off Israel off the map as long as I know.

Israel also started a war against Hezbollah over two soldiers hostage taking by Hezbollah for prisoners swapping in 2007,do you think Israel was attacked by Hesbollah over two soldeirs being taken hostage?and getting hundereds of people killed on both sides?,but I fact was Israel wanted to destroy Hezbollah completey and it didn't work just again innocent life were lost including people in Israel and the outcome was just disaster for people and Hezbollah regraded the result a victory becuse Israel could'nt achive thier objectives.

These are ALSO FACTS and FACTS are pretty tough to argue with as you said.

"Israel did attacked Iraq nuclear facility during Iran-Iraq war whithout being attacked first..."

This is not true as Iraq was AT WAR with Israel since 1948. Attacking an enemy DURING A WAR is NOT "attacking first". Further, Saddam supported various Palestinian terrorist organizations including but not limited to Abu Nidal group. According to UN Resolution 3314 this is a BONA FIDE ACT OF AGGRESSION (unprovoked attack justifying use of force). The same applies to Syria as well. Further, BOTH Syria and Iraq signed the Khartoum Resolution of the Arab League declaring that there will be NO recognition of Israel, NO negotiations with Israel, NO peace. Still further, BOTH Iraq and Syria rejected ANY possible peaceful solution that would not involve destruction of Israel.

"Israel also started a war against Hezbollah over two soldiers..."

This is another lie. While kidnapping and murdering Israeli soldiers was by itself an act of aggression justifying use of force against Lebanon it was the last drop that filled the bucket after many years of Lebanese-based terrorists against Israel. The fact is that Israel COULD eliminate Hezbollah together with hundreds of thousands of Lebanese citizens but it chose (as always) to save the lives.

Sahme on Piers for subjecting his viewers to such a pathetic guest on his show and giving this confused, attention seeking, lost guy a national platform. Why does he subject his viewrs to this educationaly challenged guy anyays? who is he? oh, yes, exuse me, he is the son of the famous movie director Oliver Stone! Who gives a dam? There is alott to be said about the brainwashed and incoherent thoughts of this young man whose soul has obviously been captured and put to work for the extremist muslim mantra. But I don't blaim him for his emotional goulash, it's his right to think and beleive whatever he wishes. I am however appalled that Mr Piers Morgan would succomb to to such trash and expose it on his show.

Thank God we still have patriots like Sean Stone around, and Piers should be ashamed for cutting him off–during the entire interview, Shame on you Piers, let the boy talk. Our Military Industrial Complex is scared to death we're gonna run out of Wars. Stop Raytheon, stop these remote controlled Drone murders, and let's focus on keeping America's head above water. Netanyahu is bound and determined to "F" with our November 2012 election, and this interview shows us that Piers is just another willing Tool.

Yes, it's all Netanyahu's fault. If only Israel didn't exist, then all our problems would be solved, right? Hmmm, where have we heard this before?

Let's all sit back and let the Islamists do their thing in the world. Meh, they're no real threat. They'd NEVER do anything so stupid like a suicidal act! They'd NEVER send their young men and women to blow themselves up and take down as many Jews and Americans with them!! Oh, wait ...

very well said willy nilly, i agree 100%. It is a very serous situation and we need to do something about it or there is going to be 2012 end of the world. I wish there is a way we could support this very smart young man and somehow stand behind him publicly. Most of the Americans who care about anything, are following the stupid presidential race and are not paying attention to the Israel/Iran situation. Is there a facebook movement against any military intentions? It should be. We have to organize something.

Israel could surrender all disputed lands in question, and release all Palestinian prisoners from their jails, and Iran would STILL want to exterminate them and wipe them off the map. This guy Stone lives in La-La land if he thinks the conflict is over land or detainees.

Very smart, "Murray Yiffelblat". The "Jewish controlled media" is so very kind to Israel, isn't it. Never paints Israel's actions of self-defense as unnecessary aggression. No, never. The media NEVER allows muslim leaders to LIE unabashedly about ... well, everything. Hey, the media is making up what's going on in Syria right now JUST to bolster Israel's designs on world domination.

As the old joke goes: One Israeli asks another why he only reads Arab newspapers. The second Israeli says "If I read the Israeli papers, all I hear is bad news about the Jews. But the Arab papers constantly claim we are all rich and successful, and rule the world!

You ever notice how no one in Iran can find a razor? Everyone walks around with a 5 o'clock shadow on their face-–even Ahmadinejad and his military officers. Not very professional, in my opinion. If you're going to grow a beard, then fine. Grow one. Either than or learn to shave. Get rid of this half-way thing. It makes you look like a third-world country.

Different positions have different requirements, Melissa. For example, it IS a requirement to have an advanced degree (PhD) in physics to become a physics Professor at a University. This, however, is NOT a requirement for someone seeking a position of a used car salesman. Caring if Ahmadinejad believes in the holocaust IS indeed a requirement for someone claiming to working on a HONEST description of the Iranian leaders and their country.

He's been there and seen the people there and knows Iranian people are very peaceful and Nuclear weapon is against their Islamic beliefs. History shows that not once Iran (or persia ever started a war. and they are not bad with jews. They have problem with Israel killing women and children in palestine.

The difference, of course, Sammy, is that Syria is TARGETING its own civilians, whereas Israel defends itself from the kinds of regimes who TARGET THEIR OWN CIVILIANS! If that's what they do to their people, what do you think they do to their enemies??!! And the only reason we even know these days about such vicious acts by Arab leaders is because of cell phones and youtube. Before the internet, this was still going on – we just didn't have access to that information. Why? Because the Arab world has no free press. But, sure, yeah, let's keep deflecting the truth by focusing the world's attention on Israel. That's the way.

So, we agree? Israel is used as a smoke screen by all of these regimes to avoid attention to their real problems. They benefit on having a highly uneducated population whom are easily fulled by blaming all o their problems to the Jews, oh wait, this sounds so 1930's, which is not a coincidence! The bottom lines is that Israel need to be ready just in case this nutcase decides to actually do something, like they did with Irak in the 80's, which helped them avoid a bigger problem when the US decide to go and fight an oil war! The only solution is to cut Iranian influence on Syria and Hezbollah, this way their influence and potential threat will be diminished, but don't ble the israelis for being worried!

Yes, Sammy, we agree. I was just adding to your point that you cannot even equate the civilian casualties (when Israel strikes back) with the murders going on in Syria. They are not equal, and should not be compared.

Please involve an actual nonproliferation expert to assess the risk of Iran. Sean Stone appeared not to know that the issue with Iran is not Bush "preemption", but Iran's commitments as a signee of the nuclear nonproliferation treaty, as well as its treatment of IAEA inspectors. It absolutely matters, Sean, if a country is making nuclear weapons. That is the point of the entire global nuclear nonproliferation regime. Educate yourself before broadcasting an uninformed assessment, and let policy makers do their job.

However, it is good to do a little research (I suppose wikipedia will be more than sufficient for the likes of you). Have you ever heard of NPT. Once you sign, you can enrich accordingly. No proof has ever surfaced suggesting Iran has other intentions than peaceful nuclear energy. This is what the whole talks are about. ... it doesn't really matter whether you're a Muslim or Jew, it's about how intelligent you are... which you don't seem to be very much...
