READ about Piers Morgan's long career in journalism here.
Coming up this evening on "Piers Morgan Tonight," attorney and television personality Lisa Bloom, and high-profile feminist lawyer Gloria Allred, join the host for a candid, and engaging hour-long interview.
Sitting directly across from Piers Morgan, the 70-year-old Allred discusses a traumatizing tale which inspired her to become an advocate for women's rights. Raped at gunpoint, and impregnated during a trip to Mexico in 1966, Allred subsequently had a dangerous, illegal abortion, and explains how the personal incident helped shape her professionally:
"I am a person who strongly believes in fighting against violence against women and the right to choose legal, safe, and available abortions because of my own life experience," Allred tells Morgan.
More than forty years since the experience, Allred vividly recalls a dangerous period for women facing unwanted pregnancies:
"It was what many of us call our women's Vietnam. More women died or were maimed by illegal, unsafe abortions when it was illegal than, frankly, men ever died or were maimed in Vietnam" she describes. "This is an overlooked fact, and that's why I feel so passionate about fighting to make sure that women have their reproductive rights."
Watch the clip, and tune in this evening at 9 p.m. as Allred and Bloom share experiences from careers in court, and on television.
