Robert Zimmerman on his brothers intentions: "You don't call the police in order to go commit murder"

As the nation remains captivated by the Trayvon Martin case, this evening "Piers Morgan Tonight" welcomed Robert Zimmerman Jr. for a world exclusive.

On Wednesday, Zimmerman Jr.'s brother George was charged with second-degree murder and arrested, and in tonight's heated exchange, Piers Morgan suggested the tragedy is George Zimmerman's fault:

"If he just carried on doing whatever he was doing with his life that night, Trayvon Martin would still be alive," said Morgan. "The only reason Trayvon Martin is dead, is because your brother decided that a young Black teenager in a hoodie looked suspicious and then pursued him."

Wednesday's guest disagreed whole-heartedly:

"Absolutely false Piers. Absolutely – nothing could be further from the truth," argued Zimmerman Jr.

Referencing the infamous 911 tapes, Zimmerman Jr. suggested that by calling the authorities, Zimmerman showed his intentions as a good samaritan:

"What he said was, 'Hi, I'm calling because there have been a significant number of break-ins in my community.' So, he never called to say 'Hi, I'm calling because there's a Black teenager in a hoodie.' And you don't call the police in order to go commit murder. You don't call the police and then kill somebody."

Joining host Piers Morgan via satellite from an undisclosed location, Zimmerman Jr. goes on to paint the picture of his brother as an advocate for a safe neighborhood, and someone aiming to assist law enforcement:

"George's expectation was that the police would shortly be there. And that's it," insisted Zimmerman Jr. "Others have come out and talked about what those suspects have looked like. Maybe that's what made George think that the police should be in the area, so that the police could make the determination if that person was suspicious."

Watch the clip, and listen to the interviews, as Zimmerman Jr. defends his brother, and offers first-hand insight into the events of February 26th.

Robert has no heart in my opinion. I have watched him twice on Piers and still have not heard him tell the Martins that he is sorry for their lost. His brother is alive. Their son is DEAD. I could respect him if he showed at least SOME remorse for their lost.

The only loose cannon was Zimmerman. Attempting to vilify Trayvon will not get justice for Zimmerman. It's obvious based on forensics, tapes, and witness testimony why Zimmerman was charged. Trayvon was a model citizen in his short years compared to the violent over zealous Zimmerman.

Zimmerman initially may've had good intentions, but his long pattern of aggressive behavior>>>>> finally got the best of him.

It's out of the public hands and now in the courts, where it should've been weeks ago. Stereotyping will get you nowhere. That's what got Zimmerman in trouble. Just sayin"

Did Trayvon have a criminal or juvenile record? NO. Did George Zimmerman? Yes. Did Trayvon have a gun or knife? NO. Did George Zimmerman? YEA! Robert Zimmerman should apologize that his wanna be cop, vigilante brother with a criminal past murdered an unarmed teenager and then lied about being assault to avoid culpribility.

I take it that you and Travon's brother were there and witnessed the whole thing. Is that a good assumption? All you have here is hearsay. And the other half of the action is DEAD.

Treyvon had been suspended for drugs. He had a disciplinary record that showed him as belligerent and out of control.

You know how y'all white folks do. It's about facts and how he didnt have the authority to harm anyone. Even the police have to follow criminal procedure. THis man has convicted and tried Trayvon before Trayvon even knew what happened to him.....

Really – if Trayvon would have walked away or even called the police, this would not have happened. But Z was afraid for his neighborhood for all the break-ins and Trayvon came at him rather than backing away and defusing the situation. All he had to say was that his father lived there and told Z where his father lived. But it escalated needlessly and now one young man is dead and another in jail.

Sometimes when hanging out with the boys...the KKK that is, I feel somewhat empowered as we hide underneath our HOODIES....oops, I mean HOODS. Even while wearing my costume, I still find it hard to escape the cowardly person that I am. What a miserable life I have, never really having understood who I am, or my worth. interesting thought...you should let it go...Stating facts that ARE NOT IN EVIDENCE is why you are unable to look at the situation objectively. Understandable how we may prejudge someone because of their appearance but as the saying goes...Don't judge a book by its cover....so should be how we treat people, only after you know whats inside can you or should have an opinion and thus you can claim you have made an informed one...anything short is ignorance.

Just because this person used adjectives to accurately describe Martin’s appearance, which BTW is reinforced by numerous personal pictures on the internet and his twitter – Facebook account postings (Martin posted those) and; reinforced by movies, that does not make the writer a Racist.

You on the other hand seem quite comfortable with throwing the “race card” into the conversation without hesitation in order to what? How does your one line assault defend or modify perceptions of Martin? The only thing I see your play of the race card is to make the other person so uncomfortable that they stop dialogue; it is designed to shock the other person, call into question their character and deflect the conversation away from the topic. That is just simple BS.

You want dialogue, change and advancement with race relations in this country; you are going to have to face the facts as they are currently understood, allow others to speak their minds/beliefs without hostile reaction and develop a better counter dialogue than to call someone a racist.

I AGREE too! Now to answer the question of why he called 911? Anyone think maybe it was for his protection so he could shoot him? He was advised NOT to go after him and the kid had NO weapons. He took it upon himself to be the "cop" of the day and SHOOT the kid. NO remorse, just his claim of "self defense". Self defense against a bag of skittles and iced tea? GMAFB. The kid never went after him...it was the other way around! Whether he goes to jail or not, he is still guilty of murder.

Robert believes his brothers version of what occurred so he must be angry that the Trayvon family had painted his brother like a crazy racist who killed there son just because he's black. Than you have the black activists, the media crying racism and rallying people and misinforming the American people. Painting an ugly picture of Zimmerman and finding him guilty of a hate crime without knowing all the facts. Black activists giving out the supposed address of Zimmerman for what to say hello...no it was so that crazy lunatics can go and kill him. Its disgusting how the media doesn't address and question these black activists they always get away with everything. They never receive a backlash which frankly I think we should show all racist of ALL colors that their actions are unacceptable but lets face it people don't want to say anything against these black activists because they don't want to be labelled a racist but these black activist which I believe many are racists themselves need to be held accountable for their actions as well. One thing is to fight against the system in not doing its job properly and fighting against injustice but don't go on television, twitter etc. Call someone a racist, a cold blooded killer who only killed someone because of the color of their skin, hammer into us an old image of a young Trayvon, when we know the guy is over 6 feet tall and was a football player. (They say it was dark, raining, and Trayvon had a hoodie how is Zimmerman supposed to know he's 17 years old Frankly I don't care what race you are but if your over 6 feet tall, its dark outside and your wearing a hoodie its safe to say that most people would be scared and I think it has to do with not being able to see the face the unkown) It is irresponsible that the black activists and the media try to convince us that Zimmerman is evil and was out for blood without knowing ALL the FACTS.......I bet you that if Zimmermans version is the truth the media and black activists will drop this story and quickly move on to the next story. They won't apologize for ruining his life which they already did without knowing the FACTS. The media and black activists need to be held accountable there needs to be a major backlash against them. They should never have made this into a race issue, they should never have painted Zimmerman as a cold blooded killer, they should never ever be one-sided because nobody knows the FACTS. The black activist / media should have made this about the police and why they didn't make an arrest and if race was race a factor in no arrest being made that would have been the responsible thing to do the right thing to do ethically morally. Now even if Zimmerman is innocent the media/black activists have already made him into a monster and ruined his life forever I wonder if he is even going to get a fair trial it seems like the media/black activists have already sealed his fate the courts, police may now go against him in fear of an uproar etc (its not the first time an innocent man goes to jail.) I blame the black activists and the media for all of this mess for being irresponsible its disgusting to see how the media doesn't care about being responsible all they care about is being followers to popular opinions and looking like they care which they don't because if they did they would ACT professional, responsible after all we are dealing with real people this not not make believe Hollywood.

U hav some good points and some that i dont understand. I am a former police officer and im a black male. I wanna ask u question? If zimmerman was so afraid of this big black guy why did he pursue after beening instructed by law enf. Not to. Instead he pursued trayvon and ended up killing him for no apparent reason. If he wanted to do the. Right thing he should have waited for the cops and just kept a visual on him til they took over, but no he confronted trayvon without any cause accept for the fact that he was tall black and wearing a hoodie. So u might just wanna think about that before u go bashing black activist cause they and 90%of the world know george zimmerman is a coldblooded killer

If George went after a cop in 2005 with a gun why would he be scared of someone who's not armed. I know the charges were dropped but the fact remains in 2005 he assaulted a cop. He has no respect of authority or anyone else.

Cecil: If that is how your mind works then I am thankful you are no longer a police officer. Were you fired for rushing to judgements? There is no evidence that Zimmerman confronted Martin. There is no evidence that he continued to follow Martin after the 911 call. He was not instructed not to follow, he was told it was not necessary. You have jumped the gun on a lot of issues here. Perhaps these things happened and perhaps they didn't. I wasn't there and neither were you. You say he should have just kept an eye on Trayvon and I believe that is all the evidence shows, that he was trying to follow him until the police arrived, and it doesn't even show that he did that after the 911 call ended.

You make a very good point about the police. They should have reported immediately that they believe Zimmerman was assaulted and they had strong evidence showing this. Instead, they hid like little girls and the mob grew angrier and angrier and all those racial opportunists saw this as a way to get on TV once again. They had to keep making more and more outlandish statements so they could get airtime over the other racial opportunists. The police could have defused much of this.

All great points but the bottomline once the dispatcher asked if he was following him and Zim said yes and then the dispatcher said "we do not need you to do that" if Zim was still concerned for the neighborhood he could stayed in his locked car and just waited for the cops to arrive ... end of story and the kid would be alive and Zim's character wouldn't be in question.

You blame the media and black activists, because you are irresponsible yourself.

There is only one person responsible for killing Trayvon Martin. That person is George Zimmerman, the same guy who in the past has skated for beating a woman and assaulting a police officer while resisting an arrest.

It's about time he is forced to take responsibility for his action.

Now you tell me, if a complete stanger accost you, you wont try to defend yourself? Things are replaceble, a life is not. I'm so tried of people talking about Zimmerman's life is ruiend, at least he has a life, Trayvon does not. Blame the media, blame the black activist, no, lets place the blame on the person that decided to kill and take another life. If he is innocent then the judicial system will decide.

Have to agree about black activists/media. When was the last time you heard Sharpton and Jackson crusading against black on black crime. Stats show that overwhelming majority of blacks killed in this country are killed by other blacks. If they would campaign to have black parents take responsibility for raising their kids, being good role models and decrying any form of violence I would take them seriously. The parents should teach their kids that dressing and talking like gangster rappers only reinforces negative stereotypes and makes them vulnerable to violence. As a black man in this country I try to teach my kids to lift themselves out of stereotypes and dress/behave like they deserve respect. Unfortunately reality is that everyone, not just black people, are judged by how they dress/behave. Does anyone expect to be hired for a responsible joib dressed in old jeans and a dirty shirt?

There is evidence that Zimmerman continued to pursue Martin. Martin was killed some 100 -150 yards away from where the 911 call was made. Check the Google map records and records of the witnesses. Some of them are listed in the phone book with their addresses. No way Zimmerman could have not pursued him. He was in a truck remember. You can follow people while in a truck. Its safer that walking in the dark right?

Alex: I guess Zimmerman doesn't have to be held accountable for his actions? Your post is pathetic but so real of how whites view blacks – that we must be up to something no good. I work everyday, as I have since the age of 13, went to college, pay my taxes and have never missed a vote. I also have a son that is 15 years of age, that wears a hoodie to school everyday. He is on the honor roll, does not do drugs, smoke, has a deep voice and is tall – he is still a child! If my son had been killed by Zimmerman or anyone like him for walking in his neighborhood, I would have the same reaction and hatred for the man that killed my child! Let's reverse the roles, Martin killed Zimmerman – would you not expect justice and want to see Martin arrested?

Trayvon Martin was murdered 70 yards from his home. Trayvon Martin was closer to his home than George Zimmerman was to his own home. George Zimmerman actively pursued Trayvon Martin, and was told by the police that it wasn't necessary to do so. To tell the truth, if someone was actively pursuing me at night I would not be pleased. Perhaps Trayvon was concerned there was a criminal in his neighborhood who was stalking people at night, and questioned Zimmerman. We will never know, because Trayvon will never be able to tell his side of the story. Trayvon's undertaker examined the body and has stated that Trayvon had no injuries to his knuckles which would have been present if he had broken Zimmerman's nose. The special prosecutor apparently feels she has enough evidence to convict for second degree murder, not manslaughter. Its time people stopped defending this murderer in the media.

If your child was killed, and authorities are telling you that his killer will face no charges, it doesn't matter what race, you as a parent, will talk to anyone who can get the results in getting your child's killer arrested. It's not a race thing, its simply a parent seeking justice for her dead child. Let's not forget, when Natalie Holloway's mother was begging for answers, no one questioned why she was seeking the truth, people just saw a grieving mother. Why is this any different?

something doesn't add up it was dark, raining, he had a hoodie on he's over 6 feet tall was a football player I can't imagine a man would attack him. Zimmerman had a gun but if his intention was to kill him he would have just shot him why would he call the police how is he supposed to know he’s an unarmed 17 year old. Frankly with his height alone I don’t think someone would attack him first. If its true Zimmerman followed him from a distance just to see where he was headed is that a crime if hypothetically Trayvon turned out to be a burglar and not headed to his fathers girlfriends house which Zimmerman wouldn’t know anyway Then people would see Zimmerman as a guy trying to help his community he would be a hero Why do people assume he wanted to kill someone just because he carried a gun Hello this is USA a country that is pro gun its funny how when something happens people cry over guns but you also don’t want to change the laws concerning the right to bare arms

None of this is relevant. Weight is every bit as much a deciding factor in an altercation as can be height which is why professional bouts have weight not height divisions. But the main point is that Zimmerman was a civilian in civilian clothes with no apparent reason to Trayvon to be following him. If I am minding my own business and am walking to where ever I am going and see a stranger following me, let rephrase, PURSUING ME, I am the one who has a valid reason to assume to my life is being threatened. Not the pursuer. All he has to do is stop pursuing. Your hypothesis that if Trayvon Martin were in fact a burgler we would be celebrating him is grasping for straws. The fact is Trayvon wasn't a burglar. And when that was apparent he should have left him alone. What are supposed to do follow everyone around for the rest of their lives to see if they break into somebody's house. George Zimmerman was wrong and this isn't going away.

He should have never followed – pursued the man, guy or teenager in the hoodie.... My question is, why is there such a big commotion about the hoodie – the weather was called for a hoodie – it was raining – what teenager you know carry around an umbrella? let along wear a jacket or coat in the cold weather... I think Zimmerman needs to come clean and admit where his forseen actions was a very big factor in the end results.

I have been watching the coverage since the first moment of the Trayvon Martin shooting. Your interview with Robert Zimmerman was great! I liked the way you conducted yourself and tried to ellicit truthful, honest answers from him. Although Mr. Zimmerman spoke very well, I couldn't help seeing him, as I think you did, as a master of evasion and double talk. Each question you asked him was answered with dramatic double talk. You tried and tried to get clear, concise answers from him but to no avail. All in all, I think you are a fine interviewer and I totally felt your frustration. Please don't stop! And by the way, if Mr. Robert Zimmerman said one more time that he and his brother were suffering, I thought I would scream. What about Trayvon? He lost his life because of a cop wannabe who decide he was the law! My heart goes out to the Martin family who lost a son. They are the ones who will suffer forever.

I wholeheartedly agree with you Luci. I appreciate Piers Morgan's vigorous questioning this time around. I thought his first interview with Robert Zimmerman was too light, but last night Piers made up for it by constantly confronting him with questions only logical non-biased people have about what happened that night. Robert Zimmerman is a master manipulator, a trait that I believe runs strong with this family.....with is dramatic descriptions of what happened, with statements such as "my brother fighting for his last breath," and one more hit on the ground and his brother would have been a vegetable who would need to be fed by Robert for the rest of his life. Then 10 minutes after the fight that nearly took his life, George Zimmerman is walking around like nothing happened.

The one thing Piers didn't mention and thus, ask about, was Geroge Zimmerman's broken nose that Robert said in his last interview was STILL broken as of that day of his interview....just a couple of weeks ago. Well in the mugshot taken just yesterday, George Zimmerman doesn't look like his nose was STILL broken. I would have loved to hear Robert's answer to that. But it probably would have been some other manipulative answer like, well it healed just last week. LOL I frankly don't need to hear from Robert Zimmerman any more. He is clearly a nut case that speaks well....a shady character that will "have an answer for everything."

Mike2bet - if your brother or sister was Zimmerman - I'm sure you'd be on the defensive right now, especially if you believed that your brother or sister was innocent, and he/she was being LYNCHED by the media and threatened by radical lunatics out there. Trayvon is dead - Zimmerman's now being killed. PUT YOURSELF into BOTH parties' shoes!! Stop treating this like "American idol" and choosing a 'winning/favorite" player in this "story."

sounds like you've already chosen sides yourself. I just want all the information in a case of murder to be judged in a court of law and up until today that wasn't happening. Now, because of all the news coverage, like it or not it's free press and serves the public to have it, the case will go through a process other than a few men who decided to let a murderer go home a few hours after he admitted to killing somebody.

Posted this before, I hit a dog – had to in order to avoid a wreck or kill myself. I was sick to my stomach that I hit that dog and it died. Have you ever had that occur? So if we can kill an animal unintentionally and feel regret, how much more so if it is a human being. So you can pause and say "I am sorry" very easily. If my son kills someone unintentionally, I would tell the family that I believe my son is innocence but at the same time I am very sorry for your lost and I hope you can accept my sincere expression. If the family rejects, I would have done my part.

You're not reading the transcript or listening to the same show as I then. I have read and heard R. Zimmerman offer sympathy that the kid died. If you seriously think he is going to apologize for the death, then you are a delusional individual. Why would he do such a thing and cast a pale over his brother’s innocence by such a statement and if you don’t think that the Martin family or supporters would not pounce on that as a “family admission of guilt” then you truly are delusional or at best naive of the way of the world we live in.

Martin is not dead because Zimmerman reported him to the police, and possibly tried to keep him in view. He is dead because he apparently assaulted Zimmerman, and wouldn't get off him. Why is this so hard for idiots like Piers and others to understand?

The hoodie is irreleavant. The race is irrelevant, except that it meant he resembled other burglary suspects. He was reported because he was a non-resident, walking around randomly in Zimmerman's neighborhood.

People have the right to watch their neighborhoods, and report outsiders. People have the right to defend themselves from assaults. Pansies like Piers who don't like it can go back to Europe.

(If my brother was being unfairly targeted and vilified after an unprovoked assault, I wouldn't have much sympathy, either. It's sad Martin apparently got himself killed, but that's why you don't start fights with people.)

J.B .- Zimmerman had no way of knowing he was a 'non-resident' and in fact, he was staying in that housing development as a guest. so that argument is ludicrous. And I agree with others here, that if someone starts following ME, than I'm the one that's scared! Zimmerman may have had good intentions but from what the girlfriend heard over the cell phone and the 911 calls, it seems clear that Zimmerman was pursuing the teen and at some point caught up to him and asked him what he was doing around 'here'. And yes, if the kid had kept his wits and answered politely that he was staying at such and such address with his dad and his girlfriend, than maybe the tragedy would have been avoided. but again, Zimmerman is just a guy in normal clothes, the kid was probably scared at being followed. Maybe Zimmerman flashed his gun to try to intimidate him and the kid paniced. But I do not believe that the kid turned around , sought him out and attacked him, I believe he probably tried to hurry 'along' and get back home, as any of the rest of us would do if we thought someone was following us. I think Zimmerman just got over-zealous in his desire to 'catch a criminal' and it all went horribly wrong. Jury will decide.

Would somebody explain why Peirs Morgan states forcefully as fact that Zimmerman continued to pursue Martin after being told by the 911 operator he didn't need to do that. Zimmerman acknowledged with an o.k. Peirs Morgan wasn't there how would he know as fact that Zimmernman continued to persue Martin? "Why the hell is this person stalking me". MOST people get angry if they feel they are being followed. We have a right to be free and not be harassed regardless of the break ins or whatever else. Zimmerman was the adult. Report, watch from a safe distance, and do not pursue. They teach that to almost all security through out the U.S. Someone should have trained Zimmerman on the right thing to do as a neighborhood watch agent.

Apologize to the Martins for their LOSS???? Their loss may very well have been because THEY didn't raise their son right. Their loss may very well be because they instilled no sense of discipline in their son, and this lack of discipline may have made their son feel like he could assault another person who posed no physical threat.

  2. Facts Please

Placing George Zimmerman's brother on live television, and asking him questions NO ONE but George Zimmerman could answer is not logical reporting. Stating opinions (such as George Zimmerman was completely uninjured after the altercation) as facts is unethical, and misleading. I want justice to prevail just as much as anyone in this country, but lets not drag the Zimmerman family through the mud until we know all the facts. If this case goes on to trial, and proves that George Zimmerman cold-bloodedly murdered Travon Martin, we then as a nation have a right to treat him as a convicted killer. Until then, try to think about what you would be capable of if you were out in George Zimmerman's situation (assuming what he says is true). As a private citizen, one cannot assume they know all the facts of a case until a case is brought to trial. Thats the awesome thing about the USA! Unitl then, we need to think with an open mind; Not with a closed, media-believing, ignorantly based opinion.
y thoughts go out to Travon's family as well. If George is guilty of what America is blindly accusing him of, he needs to be put away for a very long time

He didn't deal with the questions in a straight forward way so any interviewer smelling evasive answers is going to keep coming back to try and find out what's being covered up. Piers did a fine job and brother zimmerman is casting more doubts on the story than clearing up a thing. they were questions. and when an interviewer and his audience knows they aren't getting a clear answer or somebody is denying something that is plain and clear, i.e., zimmerman being told on the recording not to follow Trayvon and yet he does anyway, some of us want to know why he did that and how he can claim self defense if zimmerman is chasing the person he says he was attacked by. That's insane and if you don't want the answer to that question it would make sense why you thought Piers wasn't being "nice". Sorry, but that's how true is determined by police, attorneys, juries and inquiring minds seeking the facts. You see, my parents raise me to believe that I was superior then people of color. But DANG BLASTED @#%...the more I live, the more I realized that people of color are not only my equal, but in most cases, more educated, innovative, talented and skilled than I. Please understand that my ignorance of hate towards people of color was handed down from my parents. Hopefully I will not spend the rest of my life in gross darkness and ignorance. Maybe one day I will face my fears of black people, enabling me to embrace justice for all people, that I may live in peace, harmony and REALITY with all of humanity.

  4. Facts and Justice

@Facts Please - The fact is Trayvon Martin is dead because George Zimmerman shot and killed him. This is not in dispute. George Zimmerman is responsible for taking a life. What is in question is why this young man is dead and what surrounded his shooting. The family of Trayvon Martin has steadfastly sought is justice in the form of an arrest of the person responsible for his death so that the justice system could determine culpability in that shooting. Finally after weeks of talking heads and conjecture it appears that two attorneys (Ms. Corey and Mr. OMara) are seeking that justice.

While the fact is that George Zimmerman is responsible for taking Trayvon Martin's life, what needs to be determined is whether or not that act was criminal. I am encouraged that the two attorneys now involved seem more concerned with preserving the wheels of justice – for all concerned in this tragedy.

Something tells me the defense is squirming right about now and wishing this guy would 'shut-up'. Listening to these interviews sounds to me like Robert is digging a bigger hole for his brother. He is trying to sound all 'educated' and 'professional' but at the same time he contradicts himself on several accounts.

Unfortunate for the Zimmerman family but ALL of his statements sound rather self-centered with no real remorse for the Martin family.

    Sad situation all around.

This whole story has stunk from the beginning. Ultimately, the mistake George made was leaving his house with a loaded firearm and the intention of 'playing cop'. Had he not had that firearm in his possession, this whole situation would not have happened. Like the rest of us civilians, he should have just called the police and let the POLICE, do their job. Now this 'wannabe' cop must pay the price.

Robert Zimmerman revealed that he sees in black people the omnipresent threat of violence.
When Piers Morgan asked him what he had to say to Trayvon's parents, he basically told them not to provoke violence when his brother is acquitted.
That is, all he can see in black people is the threat of violence.
If this is the mindset of the Zimmerman family, it should be no surprise that George has been charged with second degree murder of a defenseless black youth.
Robert Zimmerman is a racist, completely lacking in empathy for Trayvon's family.
He probably has no idea how he is turning public opinion against his brother because like his brother he lives in the Fox News echo chamber

I don't buy that "justice" is all that's being sought. TV reporting is the great manipulator. I was watching "Nancy Grace" when the first reports came in of the shooting death of Trayvon Martin. The first report mentioned that Zimmerman had seen a young black man peering into windows of a house in the neighborhood from the SIDE yard! Nancy Grace picked up on the youth of the man and the racial implications. Almost immediately, she spoke as if she knew all the facts and blamed Zimmerman for being a racist and a vigilante! Every other moderator on the same network (HLN) followed suit! There was never another mention of the looking into windows or mention of the fact that this "boy" was six foot one and 170 lbs,! Pictures of Trayvon looking as if he were 14 or even younger were paraded over the network and it was immediately treated as if he was a guiltless little boy (little black boy!). I don't believe Ziummerman was cold hearted and I do believe that the gun was shot as a result of being attacked by Trayvon>

When it is known fact that he was following Trevon. IT is recorded on 911 call. I believe what happen here is Trevon tried to run away from Zimmerman since he was following him, Trevon decided to confront zimmerman because he thaout he was under threat by being followed. He shot Martin. Martin is DIED.....Zimmerman is where he needs to be.. His brother is the big PR push of the family, and he is a complete bs'er, who has watched to many law and order shows.

Margie, "Martin is DIED"! Don't you mean he is dead or has died? I saw that one other person wrote the same phrase. Is this some newly created phrase? Also, like so many others, you need to stop, take a deep breath, and wait 'til all the facts come out. The Martin's have not had to wait longer than anyone else would have had to to see Zimmerman arrested. The Special Justice said that on TV just today! Stop imagining victims when the facts don't support it!

Jean. before you arrogantly correct the grammar in another's post, it would be well for you to be sure yours is above reproach. Your reply to Margie contained at least two errors: the Martin's, as you wrote it, is the possessive, not the needed plural form. In addition. 'tip is not accepted standard English usage.

Point well taken about "Martins'". Don't understand what you're trying to say about 'tip' in the last sentence. That word never appears in what I wrote. I only commented on "he is DIED" because it makes no sense, not simply a matter of incorrect grammar.

to counter margie's biased and thoughtless opinion - i'll just say, Trayvon was suspended many times from school for drugs... he ain't so innocent. Additionally, he was a big guy 6'3 and played football. He should have just gone home like his girlfriend told him to do, instead of being a badass.

Since when did being a "badass" give you the right to shoot or attack someone? Zimmerman is not a police officer and being a Neighborhood Watchman does not give you permission to pursue someone that may match the description of a suspected neighborhood thief. Being a Neighborhood Watchman/woman gives you the right to inform the authorities not become the authorities. By all accounts, it was Zimmerman being the "badass" not Martin.

As to the screaming on the phone, it sounds like someone is in pain. The only evidence of pain is the marks on Zimmerman. I hope they did an autopsy on martin before they buried him. Otherwise I think Zimmerman has to walk. The media is definitely bias on this one, sowing pictures of a 12 year old kid when he really was 18 inches taller. CNN isn't the only one like this. The sad thing is that this type of reporting makes the media haters look better.

Thank you, Frank! I've never seen the news to be so slanted (not even in the Casey Anthony case)! She gave the world a lot to question about her, much more than George Zimmerman ever has! Is it the warm-fuzzy feeling that people are getting from joining together (blacks, whites, latinos) valued more than searching for the truth? I think people are also intimidated by the demonstrations and uproar shown by the blacks and their leaders.

What injuries to Mr Zimmerman's head? Had there been evidence of the broken nose and head injury severe enough to cause loss of consciousness, as claimed by Robert, the EMTs would have taken him to a hospital for tests & evaluation; however, within 35 minutes of the arrival of the police on the scene, George was videoed walking into the police station. There was no blood on his clothing- odd because even minor head wounds bleed profusely.

    George Zimmerman
should never have gotten out of his car
was not on his way back to the car, given the location of the murder
was intent on net letting another alleged hoodlum get away
confronted Trayvon without identifying himself as a neighborhood watchman
had already lied to Trayon when he told him from his car that he was not following him
did not suffer massive head injuries that would justify taking a life (the brother no longer talks about traumatic head
injuries but has switched to a dubious charge of suffocation)

It's rather unbelievable that anyone thinks only manslaughter charges should have been made. Second degree murder charges are more than justified; There should be no plea bargain.

Robert Zimmerman Jr. has made that clear.

Maybe he really hates his brother.

Piers, you are being highly selective in your choice of facts indicating that Trayvon would still be alive if... Trayvon would still be alive if he hadn't gone out for Skittles. One of the witnesses who observed the fight saw Trayvon on top of Zimmerman, so one could easily say that Trayvon would still be alive if he hadn't ended up on top of George beating him. So, no, you can't just select one specific set of facts and assign blame for the incident from it-and I'm quite sure you know that (if not, you need a course in basic logic, and need to cease using logic until you take it).

Said above that George had to have been the one screaming because he was the only one in pain.

Do not forget that the voice experts deny that

and that George was a former bouncer known for his temper and should have been able to extricate himself from a tussle with a 150 lb boy

and that he can't claim that he was screaming and that the reason he killed was because he was being suffocated as someone astutely says above.

This will not be plea bargained down. And not because the special prosecutor is tough but because Zimmerman is completely unbelievable.

One thing I have yet to understand, is why Robert Zimmerman continues to blame Trayvon Martin for his own death. I have a teenage son, and I have always taught him to be aware of his surroundings, that is probably what Trayvon was doing that night when he saw George Zimmerman following him, and he was scared. Trayvon didn't know who George was,George was acting as a predator towards the young man,who fought back and sadly lost his life in the process.

Piers, I regularly watch your show and normally find it interesting and entertaining. However, I have been appalled at how extremely bias and bullying in this case you have been. You are obviously so bias that you are doing great damage to the integrity of journalists. You would not the young man finish his counters to your overtly condemning statements of fact that are really not known facts, but only conjectures at this point. There is no proof known that Zimmerman pursued Trayvon. Perhaps it is true, but we do not absolutely know yet. I am very disappointed in you as an objective journalist, which is a assertion you make, but your words, non verbal communication and attack approach in this case refutes. With your style of attack without proof, I would hate to be one of your children or your spouse. If Zimmernan is proven guilty I will be very supportive of that judgement. If he is proved innocent your approach to this will seriously tarnish your image and rightly so. I have great compassion for the Martin family on the loss of their son and wish them grace. The cause is yet to be determined.

I believe that Trevon did walk away from Zimmerman, and that Zimmerman stopped following as requested by the 911 operator, however Trevon still frightened by being followed, turned and ran back towards Zimmerman, punched Zimmerman in the face, rode him down to the sidewalk, and in a frenzy started banging his head on the sidewalk as Trevon was screaming out for assistance "help me, someone help me". Trevon was covering Zimmermans mouth as he was beating him unconsious. I then think Zimmerman believing he was eing beat to death, took out his gun, and shot Trevon, the calls for help stopped.

Jean, hon, that would make "more sense to me than anything else" you've heard because, and I can't think of a nice way to say this, you are a nitwit. In order for that theory to "make sense," George would have to retract his statement to the police that he was the one screaming for help; the original "investigating" officers would have to retract their statement to a distraught witness that the one who was screaming is still alive; and the Zimmerman family would have to retract their statements that it was undoubtedly George screaming on the tape, including Brother Bobby's almost comical insistence last night that Trayvon had his hand over George's broken nose and mouth and had nearly asphyxiated the poor fella, and yet as he was gasping for his last breath, he managed to repeatedly scream for help, pull out a gun, and blast Trayvon in the chest. For god's sake, think!

Since I was a little surprised that the charge was Murder 2 instead of manslaughter, I can only surmise that Corey's team found a recording of Trayvon's voice (on his voice mail, perhaps, or a message he left on another's voice mail), and took it along with the recording of Zimmerman's voice to the best FBI crime lab in the country, where the voice screaming for help as positively identified as that of Trayvon.

Morgan asked Robert why his brother got out of the car and why he pursued Trayvon. The brother denied that is what happened, but then could not explain why Trayvon was killed so far away from his SUV. But more importantly the brother switched the topic to whether his brother's phone call reveals that George was racially profiling. But that was not the question. The question is why George got out of the car, pursued Trayvon, killed Trayvon far away from his car when he should have retreated, and never identified himself as a neighborhood watchman, giving Trayvon no reason to doubt that he was being stalked by someone itching for a violent confrontation.

There is no reason to think Trayvon jumped Zimmerman from the back. They clearly had a face to face verbal exchange before the physical altercation. That's clear from the girlfriend's cell phone conversation. And it's also clear that Trayvon thought that Zimmerman was pursuing him on foot and that Zimmerman did not identify himself as a neighborhood watchman, giving Trayvon every reason to fear for his life.
Zimmerman created the confrontation because he did not want to let another alleged hoodlum get away.
He wanted to make himself the neighborhood hero. He knew he had a gun to back him up. So he created the confrontation.
And now he will go to prison.

Right on Larry, I thought the very same thing. I am so sick an tired of the race card being played on every incidence nation wide. Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton make me want to throw up. Neither one has worked a day in their life, and they both tour the country on the payrolls of numerous black orgainizations trying to "stir the Pot". Well put.

On the contrary, he was biased as well. He defended his brother as if he was there watching everything unfold!! So the REALITY of it all is everyone is basing things on what information was released to the public so far. No one really knows what happened except George Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin, who unfortunately cannot tell his version of the events of that night. WHY? Because he is DEAD!!! At the hands of George Zimmerman and that's a FACT!

Your criticism of Robert Zimmerman stating what he had heard from his brother is rather strange. The popular media, and yourself included, have assumed that you know what happened. And who are you getting your first-hand info from???

How so is it strange? I said, if you would look above, that NOBODY except GEORGE ZIMMERMAN and TRAYVON MARTIN knows the real story of what happened that night. I said we are all forming opinions based on what information is released to the public thus far....i.e the 911 tapes. You are standing up for Mr. Zimmerman and that is your right and you expressed your OPINIONS and VIEWS, likewise I exercise my right to do the same. Just because Zimmerman says his brother didn't do it, doesn't make it so! Hell, no one expected him to say anything less. After all, it is his brother...

Piers you are a liberal with White Guilt. I will break it down for you Idiots. Fact 1 Florida Law says you have the right to detain a person Criminally Trespassing. So no matter what a citizen call taker told him he had every right to stop Martin. So lets look at that. Martin did not live in the gated community (private Property) neither did his dad. His daddy was banging a girl whos house was being foreclosed on. Martin was over 100 miles from his mommies house and had no reason to be there mommy kicked him to babydaddy because he got suspended from school again. Geroge a Hispanic! Male had every right to defend his community. Fact 2 many breakins to houses were committed by BLACK MALES! So once again walks, talks and quacks like a duck it’s a duck.
Zimmerman lost contact with martin and was asked to find an address. No street signs were in the area so Zimmerman got out. Martin pulled a typical bully move and confronted Zimmerman. Zimmerman was attacked by a MAN 6 foot 3 not some kid. martin beat him. And as for Piers dumb comment let me hit you once I would knock your English butt out in one hit.
If you want to attack a person you deserve to get shot. To all you BLACK self righteous idiots. Our borders are open go back to the motherland. Those who want to be a positive person to America please stay we need good people.

Zimmerman could have just gone back to his SUV. He was not out looking for a street address. He knew exactly where he was. It was his neighborhood, he was the captain of the watch team. He was still out on the prowl for Trayvon on the basis of no evidence that he had committed a crime. He wanted to apprehend him. He had a gun to aid in the apprehension. He created the situation, and now he'll go to prison.

What this Black Panther Party said has been condemned in the strongest terms by everyone close to Trayvon's parents. The bounty is grotesque. The police should track down those who committed this criminal act. I would like to know who this new black panther party is and whether it's a front group for another organization. But this was of course a sickening development in the case.

I can't understand why Mr. Zimmerman's brother agreed to that interview, he did more harm than good for his brother. Stating his brother did not keep "following" Mr. Martin after the police told him they did not want him follow the kid, because Mr. Zimmerman had lost Mr. Martin, and admitting Mr. Zimmerman went "Looking" for Mr. Martin by going to the last address where he had saw him. By "Following" or Looking for" Mr. Martin, either way, Mr. Zimmerman's brother openly admitted Mr. Zimmerman still pursed Mr, Martin AFTER the police clearly told him not to do that!

I have been watching since 5:00 cst. I cried with reliief to finally see the justice system working in the state of Florida.
Why it took them so long is another question. In my state, mainly, my county, George Zimmerman would have been arrested iimmediately and stayed in jail as legal procedure would take its course.
Regarding the interview, with George Zimmerman's brother, I understand the shock and denial.
Everyone wants to believe in someone, especially when it is they you are close to you.
Among many, there are three observances I would like to comment on,
    1. George Zimmerman's brother said, "He spoiled a robbery that the neighbors enjoyed."
    Enjoyed? Who enjoys a robbery?
    2. When Piers asked him is he had anthhing to say to Trayvon's parents, and I, also watched this twice, he referred to them as "these people".
    3. This has no relevance but did anyone notice his ears? They were white as a sheet.
I know this might sound absurd but look at the video. It stood out to me.
Perhaps he has a problem with blood circultaion in his ears. I do not know.
I even looked at Pier's ears. There was color in his ears.

What do "white ears" have to do with anything? Don't you imagine the stress he was under might have caused a change in circulation? It can do that, you know.

There is no justice when a man is lynched in the media before he is even charged with a crime.

New Black Panthers call for a race war, gun-control advocates use Zimmerman as a political football and Obama says Treyvon Martin could be his own son.

Public opinion is already poisoned against George Zimmerman and now he is supposed to get a fair and impartial jury to listen to his case?

    Good luck!

If this is the best our justice system has to offer then it's more humane to hang the accused from a tree and beat them like a pinata.

Robert (or George) needs to explain one thing. How did George get from his car, where I believe he was when he made the 911 call, to the site where the shooting took place. Robert says George "lost sight" of Martin and returned to the last place he saw him. Quite frankly, that sounds like he was looking for Martin, followilng him as it were. Martin might very well have been observing him and thinking to himself, "this creep is after me."
If George had just stayed in his car and gone to where police had told him to go, none of this would have happened. Once George decided to try to "find" Martin, all bets were off.

YOU and I do NOT know that Zimmerman continued to follow Trayvon AFTER he spoke to the police. Period.
Furthermore, one could also say, along your "if" line of thinking... IF Trayvon just went home or potentially didn't sneak up on Zimmerman, then none of this would have happened. NO ONE KNOWS WHAT HAPPENED THAT NIGHT.

I've been reading these ignorant, racist comments, and they are an embarrassment to my country. We do know Zimmerman continued to follow Trayvon after a trained - allow me to repeat that - trained dispatcher realized he was following Trayvon (one could not miss the huffing and puffing) and asked for clarification. When Zimmerman replied that he was, the trained dispatcher said firmly, "Okay, we don't need you to do that." Zimmerman said okay, but when the dispatcher attempted to arrange for the police to meet him "at the mailboxes," Zimmerman initially agreed, and then changed his mind, told the dispatcher to have to police call him when they arrived, and he would show them where Trayvon was. The only way he could know that is if he continued to follow Trayvon. It's on the tape, in Zimmerman's own words. So, while we wait for other facts to emerge and the judicial process to function, can we at least be done with pretending that Zimmerman stopped following Trayvon and returned to his SUV? He didn't.

Crazy Talk. If that were an argument made in a court of law you would open the door to Zimmerman's past as well. Let's talk about his failure to become a cop and increase desire to pretend to be one. How about his defiance for authority in his resisting arrest charge. And dont fail to include his father's position of influence in the law. TM was a typical American boy; sports fan, son, brother, student, girl chaser and dealing with crap as best he could. George Zimmerman is an out of control, wanna-be cop. Where is Zimmerman's father? I'd like to hear his character reference.

Barbara, I am lucky to live on a block where everyone respects each other. I live in the house my parents owned since I was 10 yrs. old. There is a wonderful "Black" family who lives right across the street who I have known for over ten years and have the utmost respect for. There is a Hispanic Family two houses down from me who I ,also, have the utmost respect for them. There is a handicapped eldely individual who we all care about. Everyone knows everyone on this block I am fortunate to live in such a neighborhood because we have respect for each other. We live next to a middle school. The buses run down our street everyday. Many children, walk or run, express themselves, scream or yell , laugh or talk, on their way home or to the next bus. 90% of those chilren wear hoodies, weather permitting.
We are all human beings and we are all equal.

Just saw the Piers interview with the Zimmerman brother (a second time). You Go Piers! Good job! You get him to fess up! Robert Z. way too much defends his brother. I can see his devotion. But all the evidence points to Zimmerman starting the whole thing – i.e. following Trayvon, disobeying police instructions, and likely chasing him down & grabbing him. If Zimmerman was indeed hit in the nose or whatever, it was likely Trayvon acting in self-defense & fighting back. Zimmerman is at fault for starting the whole thing in the first place – and trying to take the law in his own hands. He is getting what he deserves and so is his family.

Personally, I am sickened by the fact that money is being wasted listening to this racist, uncaring individual that we have to consider a human being. Zimmerman has no heart and neither do the idiots who have posted their hate in support of him, White America and the others who are so full of hate need a wake-up call. Hopefully some of them will experience a similar tragedy and see how people respond to them. They all need help.

Piers, Robert Zimmerman repeats his false statement that Trayvon told his girfriend he would walk "slow." Robert Z assigns some nefarious intent to that. What Trayvon said (in transcripts of her cell phone conversation with him) when she told him to run he said he would WALK FAST.
plz make that distinction next time Robert Z makes up a new version of what happened.

I thought the most eye opening part of the interview was when Robert told us that George shot Trayvon because he feared Trayvon would get the gun from him. What that says to me is that the absence of the gun would have prevented a loss of life. Citizens should not be carrying guns. This is a prime example (whether his story is true or not) that guns are just as much the problem as people.

Also, the main reason for the general public to be able to carry arms is to protect itself from the government..."When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty." A simple statement, made by a founding father, we have all seem to have forgotten this day in age.

As long as there are people out there who are willing to threaten the safety of others, there will always be a need for firearms. The police do not magically teleport to your side when needed and I like to know I can protect myself if I were ever in a situation that called for it. One would have to be an absolute fool to actually believe that guns aren't necessary anymore.

        Also, excellent point Kainius.

This Zimmerman went after Piers for 'supposition' and yet he did the same thing when talking about Martin walking slowly. He said something to the affect that Martin said he wasn't going to run, he was going to walk slowly and stated that meant Martin was sneaking up on Zimmerman. I see it the other way – he wasn't going to be intimidated by this man following him and he was going to show that by not running away. I didn't see all of the interview, but something that has struck me time and time again about this broken nose is that there is no blood on this man at all, not on his shirt or face, his nose looks normal, and there is no bruising around his eyes. Sure, the paramedics may have looked at his 'broken nose' like everyone states as fact, but that could be because Zimmerman said he had a broken nose – of course they are going to look at that. I don't believe Zimmerman was out to kill anyone that night, but he did. He should own up to the fact that he was scared and acted out of that fear, but not fear of his life.

Last time he said his brother was beaten almost to death. This time he said that most of his injuries were respiratory injuries that you won't see on video. Lmao, which is it? If he wasn't following him, then how did he end up so far away from his car? And, please tell me how he and his brother were doing brotherly things, he can set up a website and make phone calls, but be emotionally/physically changed

Piers – Please have a some facts in hand, the next time you interview the Zimmermans. The video footage of Zimmerman at the police station is taken within approx.. 35 minutes of the shooting. The station is a 12-15 min drive from the crime scene. That gave EMT's less than 20 mins to assess & treat Zimmerman for his life threatening injuries, that's assuming the EMT's devoted all their attention to Z's bloody nose, instead of tending to the kid with the gunshot wound to his chest.

And Trayvon told his girlfriend he would "walk fast", not walk slow – as RZ stated.

And RZ states that Trayvon, at 6'3, sat on his brothers CHEST, covered his mouth with one hand, while he beat his head onto the ground, (presumedly with the other). How is it physically possible for this tall, lanky kid to contort his body as such? And then he says, Trayvon sees Z's gun in Z's waist holster, from this very same position, mind you and "tries to go for it". All the while saying, "You're gonna die tonight". And to end it all, after Z shoots Trayvon in the chest at point blank range, Trayvon says, "You got me", before dying. - Could you have challenged him on any of that absurdity???

RZ says his brother never followed or pursued Trayvon, after being directed not to. Yet, then he says, Z went to look for the place he last spotted Trayvon, so he could have an address to direct the police to. Look for, follow, in pursuit of...all the same isn't it???

And did RZ really refer to the Martins as "these people", when asked if he wanted to say anything to them from the Zimmerman family? And then go on to suggest that they not become violent, after his brother is acquitted. The ONLY person who has been accused of violent tendencies is George Zimmerman. What a load of crap.

I know people are saying "let the trial happen and the let the authorities take care of it" but are we forgetting that this guy was never charged form the beginning and spent about a half hour at a police station and was asked to leave? Everone in this forum, Zimmerman AND Martin supporters, has deeply rooted biases. This isn't about Zimmerman! It's about dehumanizing paradigms that get passed on from one generation to the other. Our perception of humanity compartmentalizes us. To some of you, Trayvon was not even human! We care passionately for "our own kind", whether it's for race, religion, nationality, etc. This thinking persists inspite of your "God(s)". Perhaps you're not "praying" hard enough...LOL. Zimmerman is only one of many triggermen, who may have taken a life unnecessarily. We ALL kill unjustly or are indifferent to those, who do. This is just a different flavor of homicide. I'd make a fortune selling news papers to you people. You eat this stuff up so predictably. You're oblivious to the cycle.

I suggest we allow the evidence to do the real talking here. I only know what the media has said and so far we have one with facial/head injuries and not the other...that might suggest that one was attacked by the other. We also have pleadings for help recorded by 911...I would suggest that it is probably Zimmerman calling for help because he is the one who knew 911 was on the line...knowing this he would not kill a man pleading for help all the while the police were listening and recording it....also...if there was a struggle for the gun there should be gunshot residue on both parties....also if Martin was shot while struggling for the weapon then there should be powder burns on his person or clothing or both...the physical evidence in this case will tell us what we need to know...and as for profiling....Zimmerman was not even sure of Martin's race....he said he looked black (only when asked), but it was dark and he was wearing a hood which might make telling a person's race difficult if not impossible...and I would suggest that if one does not want to be seen as a "gangsta" then don't try to look like one with the oversized clothing, the pants sagging down with the crotch at the knees, and wearing a hoodie to concean your face...don't walk around as a stranger in someone's neighborhood, in the dark, and then take an aggressive stance by a resident when confronted. If you do not want to be "profiled" as being an unsavory riff-raff out to do no good, then don't look like one.

Zimmerman's brother and his friend need to keep their mouths shut before they say something that will backfire. Its interesting that his brother forgot to mention that on the 911 tape his brother clearly says ( F–king punks always get away) What we have here is a little man that carries a gun, that thinks he's a cop who killed somebody. There is no doubt in my mind that he was following Trayvon ( who told his girlfriend this ) who in all likelihood confronted him and Trayvon who would have been concerned may very well have got in an altercation with him. If someone was following me in the dark and confronted me I too would have punched him in the nose. Where the struggle took place was no where near his van where he was told to stay and happened on grass ( according to witnesses ) not a cement sidewalk. The police investigation was a disgrace. If Zimmerman had just called the police and done what he waas told this would not have happened. Unlike some I am a retired homicide investiagtor and look at this in an unbias view. Meanwhile his brother and his friend keep spouting off what happened. I hope for Zimmermans sake, his lawyer tells his brother and friend to stop talking before it affects any defence. y

According to Mr. Taafe, George Zimmerman called the cops and waited for their arrival. But what does George Zimmerman do when he sees a LONE KID walking, not commiting ANY crime (except fitting HIS stereotypical description), what does PUNK A$$ George Zimmerman do? He follows Trayvonn and gets out with his gun. Even AFTER the dispatcher told him "WE DON'T NEED YOU TO DO THAT" George Zimmerman takes the gun and matters in his own hands. Why didn't he get out of the car when he allegedly saw an ACTUAL crime being commited? Plain and simple GEORGE ZIMMERMAN IS A PUNK A$$ PU$$Y!!

I have read through everyone's omments on here, and I am saddened to know that I live in a society where there is so much animosity and anger. I agree that we should all let the chips fall where they may with this case, but what really saddens me is that Trayvon's Martin's character is being dragged through the mud in order to defend George Zimmerman. It really doesn't matter what trouble Trayvon had been involved in prior to the night of his dealth. He wasn't doing anything wrong THAT NIGHT. I think that Zimmerman's past if far more relevant; Domestic Violence and Assault of a cop. Further, for those of you saying that race has nothing to do with this case, I think that you are living in a dream land. Racism is not over in this country. Not even a little bit. Black men, young and old, are always seen as a threat, no matter what they have on, and that threat others feel may be concious or subconcious. Also, I want many of you to put yourself in Trayvon's shoes for a minute. I know that if I were being pursued, I may want to confront the person that is following me. That is the basis of the "Stand your Ground Law," right? I think that ending a fist fight with a gun is ridiculous. My question is why did Zimmerman have to get out of his car and why did he have to carry his gun. In my opinion, you carry your gun if you are going to use it. I think that this case has been handled poorly all the way around, and I hate that there is so much hatred being spread on these boards. I think that Zimmerman should get life in prison simply because he killed someone who was NO threat to him. If he would have let the police do their jobs, there would not have been an issue.

Now that charges have been brought against Zimmerman; the Zimmerman family is crazy talking to the media about issues specific to that terrible night; facts that they could not personnally know. Now that charges have been brought, it is safe to assume that this Special Prosecutor would not risk her reputation as a tough, smart, winning prosecutor by filing charges she could not hope to win. People were outraged that Zimmerman could shoot someone and walk away from a dead body with fewer consequences than if he had received a parking ticket while in Sanford. Now that files have been filed, let the speculation end and let the justice system work (as it should have from the beginning).

This is a media spectacle. Were a white kid shot by a white guy, or black by black, I doubt Al Sharpton and Co would care. I feel for the Martin family, but I feel for the Zimmerman's as well.

Every participant stands to gain through this hollow, shallow spectacle paraded before us. The prosecutor will likely have a talk-show, the lawyers get free advertising, the Martin family,... a book deal (likely ghost-written) and I suspect the same for Zimmerman.

Too much media, not enough intellect. McLuen should be a prophet. To ignore the constant racial media-hype that motiviated Zimmerman to protect his community is to ignore the reality of life in our time.

How many Trayvon's died for oil and Corporate America?

This is free TV. We are playing into the hands of those who use fear as control. If Zimmerman commited a crime, let the lawyers handle it.

I thought Zimmerman's brother was a better speaker, remained calmer, and made more sense than Morgan. And I must add that I still am not convinced one way or the other.

I DON'T KNOW if Zimmerman continued to follow Martin or not, that is the bottom line here. The story Zimmerman's brother gave is not implausible, even though Morgan tried to keep saying over and over that it was. But I was not there and do not know the facts, as Morgan seems to be claiming as if he were there. The point about it making no sense for Zimmerman to be talking to 911 operators and then targeting and shooting Martin is actually a pretty good point. I'm not sure what to believe because, and, just like Piers Morgan, I do not have all the facts and I was not there.

I would like to know the FACTS of the case. Are the authorities doing the job they should be doing?

There are FACTS that should have been obtained by now, whether or not the authorities choose to release them to the media:

-If George Zimmerman was truly being assaulted the way he described (with Trayvon on his chest, beating his head into the cement), WHY was Travyon Martin found FACE DOWN, with his hands UNDER HIS BODY, according to the police report?

-Why was there NO blood from the victim soaking Zimmerman's shirt, if Trayvon was shot while Zimmerman was being "assaulted"?

-Was a toxic screen performed on Zimmerman the hour of the shooting, the way a toxic screen was apparently eventually performed on Trayvon's dead body? If so, what were the results?

-WHERE exactly on his head and WHAT is the medical professional's characterization of the alleged head wounds of Zimmerman, and do they confirm his STORY?

2 Questions after listening to Brother Zimmy:

    1) If Trayvon is sitting on his chest and holding his mouth and nose shut as brother Robert states on Piers Morgan..how is he physically able to see a gun in George's waistband and state "you are going to die tonight" reaching for his gun as father Robert states to a Fox affiliate?

    2) If Trayvon is covering George's mouth, how is it George that is so loudly screaming for help on the 911 tapes?

Actually a witness, a real one – not hearsay – indicated he saw Trayvon face down and Zimmerman on him, then stand still straddling him. The witness turned away for a moment but heard (did not see) the gunshot, and saw the larger man – walk away. So, honestly – if he's on top of him and the teen is face down – the threat is no longer present and he killed an unarmed person, that he had pinned down. How he got there is moot.

I'm not an American and nor do I have all the "facts" that the attorney's may have but, has anyone ever considered the notion that maybe the young man did attack Zimmerman (hold on....)? Maybe he felt threatened that "some creppy man" was following him around and felt that he had to defend "himself" against a possible criminal. Because this is completely plausible, my question becomes, "Then didnt that give the young man the right to beat Zimmerman senseless? Zimmerman brought this upon himself and if you cant understand that, imagine if your youngest daughter was walking "where ever", and a creepy man was stalking her...!!! Most of you would be proud to know that although she passed away as a result of the tussle, she at least gave it her best shot to evade hime. It may not be clear cut but once Zimmerman played the role of a Policemen (or aggresser) he had brought the ENTIRE situation upon himself. The world is watching and general opinion is that your history has taught many of you nothing.

The problem with the US right now is sorting out the good guys, the bad guys and the merely stupid. This one may end up with both being in the latter category. However; Zimmerman has the additional burden of playing cop and bringing the gun to the party...

Jeret – this is what I believe. Mind you, while Zimmerman was a member of A neighborhood watch, this ... was not the neighborhood he was assigned to. So, let's set the stage > a man, spots a youth > gets out of his vehicle > tells the police this person is suspect > then even after being told to not follow > does. Now, following – I'm pretty sure would be obvious at some point to the Youth. We also know Zimmerman's brother on another video, indicated his brother only shot this youth, when he reached for the gun in Zimmerman's waist band. However, the girl friend indicated on the phone, her boyfriend was being chased. So here we have introduced two heresay – based upon what the victim and the murder told others. Because of what these two added, the chase must of came first. Then, when they stopped, how close was Zimmerman so that he could feel the teen tried to grab at his gun. Then you have a witness that saw the young man on the ground, face down – and Zimmerman getting up, still straddling, shooting and walking away. Where and how was Trayvon shot? What if Trayvon was a female – how outraged would we be knowing Zimmerman stalked a young girl. Why is this different?

Great points to consider. Youre right, if this had happened to a young female, the outrage would have been, in my opinion, deafening. But as you posed, "why should this matter?" This is why I brought up the part about American history. repeating itself? You guys are a powder keg and the match is lit, however Im not so sure that many of the trouble makers (all sides) are not ready for the "what comes next." My point? Cooler, SMARTER heads must prevail soon. I believe that wonderful Florida special prosecutor took a HUGE first step in doing so. Let's see who follows suit.

I am very saddened by the racism and ignorance surrounding this case. This case had absolutely nothing to do with race and has only given the black community one more incident to add to their "victim" parade. This is a case of an overzealous community activist. If anything comes of this it should be laws to restrict the carrying firarms to the grocery store. My heart goes out to Trayvon and his family for his tragic death. The real problem here is not racism, I do not believe George is racist. Do i believe he is a profiler, yes. I believe that he live in an area where alot of crimes are commited by black youths. Do I believe that when he saw this black youth with his hoodie up walking around the area he thought he was a possible robber, yes I do. I believe he thought he was protecting his community against crime. It is a horrible tragedy that he had a gun that night. I sure wish he hadn't and that he would have just recieved a beating from this kid that he mistakenly chased. What the black community and the media has done since this tragedy is also a tragedy, putting pictures all over the media of a small child, mug shots of Zimmerman, none of this makes any sense. Why bring race in it when it doesnt have to be, if you ask me this is what is keeping racism going. Doesnt matter what colors these people were, it is a tragedy, that is that. Laws need to be made, in my opinion, it is gun laws. But, atleast, it was a legal gun. How many children are killed by unregistered guns every day by stray bullets in the drug crimes committed evry second on our srteets. Why arent these children's pictures plastered all over the media???? Are these not tragedies as well?? Why arent all these celebrities and even the president talking about these and demanding answers? Why arent these people names and adresses plastered on twitter and facebook so "justice" can be carried out.

@Mo3, not sure what generation of American you are but Blacks in this country have been victimized for too long in this country. Im expecting them to get "fed" up, wouldnt you. I mean, youre sounding off about this event right now. What if it kept happening to you? Would you, as you suggest, lie quiet and allow these things to continue to occur. Let me fill you in, When children that arent blond hair and blue eyed come up missing (although far too many that doesnt fit that description do), do you hear them complaining? Have you seen your countrys Youtube postings (young white males/females post some of the most hateful stuff I've witnessed) do you complain then? It's just odd that theyre always bringing attention to the same stuff (inequality, unfair practices etc). Oh and please dont try the Welfare, Jail and murder rates that you Americans love to pin on them. Up here, we do many studies on your race relations and societal ills and guess what, in almost every category of what ailes America, whites lead the pack. Who cares if you have the sheer number or that statics provides ratio, sheer numbers tell the REAL story of whats happening there. Maybe you should quit being afraid of "just taking it" and take a lesson from them and learn to rally. Your Tea Party, unions, Occupy movements, etc seems to understand that. Take care and take charge

It is likely that if Zimmerman had intended to threaten him, he would have done so by showing the gun. There, it is likely that no explicit threats were made. If Travon Martin is intelligent as indicated by his background, he would not have assaulted a man brandishing a gun. He obviously thought he had the upper hand when he broke Zimmerman's nose and began bashing his head in the sidewalk (supported by the evidence), which can easily result in death by head trauma.

There was likely poor judgment involved by the actions of both of them. However, when someone is in the process of taking your life by physical assault you either react with deadly force, you escape or risk death where you get no second chances. Zimmerman was pinned on the sidewalk and escape was not an option so he killed Mr. Martin.

NONE of us know the real evidence in this case; therefore, NONE of us should be judging one side or the other. But I will say that if one chooses to lawfully carry a gun and then feel the need to use it, then one must be willing to be investigated and be able to prove what / how / why it needed to be used. Zimmerman has cooperated, charges have been filed and the rest of this will play out in court (as it should). Everyone needs to calm down and let our justice system work. Again, NONE of us know all of the facts. Stop judging!

Time to let this play out in court and see what shakes out. The people charging his brother would not have brought charges if they felt he was innocent and did nothing wrong. Maybe Zimmerman should have admitted he made a mistake instead of making a story that created this huge firestorm. Time for the courts to decide.

Why are people making this about race. 95% of the time an unarmed person is killed there is an arrest. There are alot of murders sadly but what made this case stand out was how quickly they pushed it under the rug. All people should be outraged by a death that was not thoroughly investigated. All races and all political persuations should be outraged. Why would a conservative not be outraged by this. You cant just kill a person and offer a self serving statement about it and nobody investigate it. That's silly. This is how you know this country is silly. So just because I am a republican I can't get on tv or comment about how wrong I think this is . so its your team vs. my team . Your race vs. My race. I'm an American and I'm black. I'm not African, I'm a black man who lives in America. Al Sharpton is an embarrassment and a lowlife; his representation of my race is akin to Rush Limbaugh representing white people.

This nation is tired of racism and this case and the media ARE the race issue. Race will always be an issue until the media decides it is not. The system needs race to form groups. Groups are much easier to target for “special interest” advantages and that is why they exist.

Had Trayvon killed Zimmerman we’d know nothing of the incident. Had Trayvon been Hispanic, the case would have made the local news, at best.

If Zimmerman killed Trayvon, he committed a crime. Hyperbole and politics creates a race crime. Why is it not a race crime when a black targets a black? I’ve seen it, I’ve even lived it!

If Zimmerman is acquitted, he should be allowed to sue any media outlet that fueled this fire. If he is guilty, he should hang.

All of this is sad, because you see people talking about "facts", but the only indisputable one is that a kid is dead and was shot Zimmerman. Now from that point, there is reason for a lot of things: sadness, outrage over race issues because of WHY this kid was pursued, fear because of the perceptions involved, etc. But to sit here and pick a certain side and sound off with some type of convicted bravado is crazy, especially when it's falsely based on "facts". You are looking past the facts when you know your opinion is based on your per-conceptions and convictions over this case. Calling a kid a "thug" without facts, rooting FOR Zimmerman without facts, acting as if he is not guilty and did not deserve to be arrested without facts. This is why public opinion is a wash, because the public has no clue of what objectivity is....we just all process from our slanted views. Court was justified in this case, and that along with the only other indisputable fact, is a fact! You all can keep your negative opinions, because they only make YOU look silly...and does not affect this case in any way, shape or form.

    Here's all I know:
Zimmerman called 911 upon seeing somebody in a hoodie.
911 Dispatch told Zimmerman to back off and wait for the police to arrive.
Zimmerman didn't do that and pursued Travyon while armed.
Zimmerman and Trayvon got into a scuffle.
    Zimmerman's gun went off.
    Trayvon got killed.

NONE OF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF GEORGE ZIMMERMAN LISTENED TO THE 911 DISPATCHER.

Everything is else pure speculation and opinion. Zimmerman didn't listen to 911 and made a bad (and deadly) decision. There are consequences for making poor decisions like that and Zimmerman has to face up to them. PERIOD.

I think 2nd degree murder is a bit far, but then again I am not the prosecutor, and I have no idea what other information they might have. Anyone stil talking about race needs to stop. It detracts from the facts in this case. It doesn't matter what color Martin was, he was killed because of someone else's willfull ignorance. Also, what does smoking pot have to do with violence?? Marijuana is a pacifying drug. Go smoke a bowl, and then tell me how much you feel like raging on someone. You smoke weed for the euphoric, calming effects. Linda I would not confront someone following me I would run and get to a safe place and call the police. If hypothetically speaking Trayvon confronted Zimmerman for following that says that he is not afraid of Zimmerman and that he wanted to start something ...people have mentioned why didn't Zimmerman stay in his car (which we don't know ) well why didn't Trayvon walk quickly or run I would and I think most people would if a stranger was following them but Trayvon mentions in the call that he would slow down that is not reaction of someone who is scared. The question here is not whether Trayvon was foolowed because Hello thats Zimmermans job the question is who confronted who and most importantly who physically started the fight because things don't add up. This is not fact but it makes sense if Zimmerman may have kept a visual on him was confronted by Trayvon thinking he can take him, a fight broke out and someone is dead

Look people who are defending Zimmerman need to get way more realistic. MEN: Consider this for yourself. Say you are walking down the street and a man get out of the truck on his phone. Is watching you and then starts describing you to someone. He doesn't identify himself but you do realized this man has just identified you...You decide to run because he seems like he is picking you out for some odd purpose. Before you can get home this man chases you "in the dark" down a dark alley. Wouldln't you be afraid for your life? So if you do decide to attack this man wouldn't it be you defending yourself? You hadn't chased this man...he was chasing you. How can it be that this man can claim self defense when he was chasing you? Also, why would this man carry a gun to follow you if he didn't think he would need to use it. Now I know some women may not understand this but boys are raised to not be cowards...So if you are being stalked, at night, by a man with a gun...Wouldn't it be reasonable to attack this man. You are in a neighborhood you do not know, the man has clearly shown his intent to cease you in someway...(remember serial killers do things like this) So a 17 yr old is probably gonna yell (911 tapes) and fight. Now Zimmerman may have had good, protective intentions, but he intiated this...Not Martin. So he must bere the resposibility and pay for his crime. Is he a cold blooded murderer...I don't think so but he still killed a boy who had done nothing. All people have the right to defend themselves when threatened and Zimmerman should have given Martin the same respect as an American that he would expect himself. People say Martin could have been trying to break into those houses like other young boys had been doing prior...and that would seem to make sense but Martin was in Miami living with his mother while all this was happening. Meaning he couldn't have possibly been involved with all of that. Yes that boy got into trouble but all kids get into trouble...He did not deserve to be targeted, chased and killed based of speculation.

To me this isn't solely about race; the dispatcher told him "not to pursue" he did exactly the opposite. Just like any animal, man or otherwise if your cornered and you have no where to go (stranger in a strange land) you will strike back! If your unarmed and they are, good luck. If Trayvon had successfully defended himself and killed Zimmerman instead, than this would've been self defense as well. Not sure how a person with a criminal history can even own a concealed weapon to begin with?! If he is cleared of this; heaven help those victims of assaults by perps or stalkers because if you are killed by them, they can claim self defense seeing you fought back. Self defense.

Robert Zimmerman is heartless, sneaky, and does not answer the questions he's asked in this interview. If he went on the show to help his brother and earn him some good will, he failed miserably and made things worse. No apology, no compassion or kindness for Trayvon Martin and his family.

Also I want to know what ammo it was?one shot with a 9 mm to stop a thug in his tracks? I would have loved to see the flicker in that thugs eye as he beat Zimmerman got popped in the chest and as he stepped back and I quote from PD report " OK you got me" then he faded away, this proves he was a bully. He knew he was done and it should happen more often. Mabie you black bullies would realize if you mess with anyone you are gonna die you might stop?

Robert Zimmerman is a creep and a liar just like his brother the killer. He has a different version every time he speaks. He and the racist dummy "Frank" are spinning their lies in an attempt to tarnish a future jury. Do they really think reasonable people believe Trayvon "snuck up on his brother" as he put it? What happened is a NO Brainer Robert. Your weirdo brother was creeping around the neighborhood with his gun like he probably did every night and after he hung up with 911 he chased the teen, tried to detain him, which is a crime and then when Trayvon fought back which any reasonable person would do when being attacked by a stranger, he shot him point blank in the chest George immediately started spinning his lies when he told the officers at the scene "he was screaming for help but nobody helped him" knowing full well people heard the teen screaming for dear life. Thankfully the 911 calls picked up the screams that are clearly Trayvon begging for help, not George! The reason the 2nd degree charge came in is because a boy was begging for help and George callously shot him dead. I hope he gets life!! And I'm a white middle class mother of teen boys!!

Andra you show how dumb you are. Florida law states you can detain someone for the police who is trespassing. This area was not your typical neghibor hood, it was gated which makes it private property. Just as some apartment complexes if you don't live there you are trespassing. Tryvon was a thug who was a menace to society. He deserved what he got. You wanna be a thug and jump people you deserve to get shot. I guess none of you liberal tards have ever been attacked by a black hoodrat? The waste of flesh blacks will riot no matter of guilty or not guilty.

Anyone who posts on here (Andra) and pretends to know what happened that night is pathetic and dumb. There is only one person alive that knows the truth. Hopefully the evidence will prove one way or another but until that happens....none of us know what happened. So, with that being said, these people on here spreading hatred and racism are pathetic and dumb, both sides!! To say that it was Zimmerman or the the teen on the 911 tapes, are you serious, you know that and if you do, how do you know, were you there that night? None of this has been determined as of yet, and if it has then it has certainly not been released to the media or the middle class white mothers of teens sitting home reading cnn and the rest of what the media feeds us. They feed us what they know will sell their newspapers. To all these people calling Trayvon a thug, shame on you! To all these people calling Zimmerman and racist, shame on you! Trayvon may have been in trouble in school but that does not make him a thug or even a bad kid. Zimmerman may have been an overexcited community watch member who was hell bent on protecting his neighborhood but it does not make him a murderer. Did he kill Trayvon? Unfortunately he did, it is a horrible tragedy but I do not believe it was premeditated and that he was toting that gun around just waiting for some black kid in a hoodie. This tragedy was made out to be some racist act when it was not. There are thousands of murders every day. Millions of our children are shot down in the streets every day by stray bullets meant for drug dealers or rival gang members, these children are black, white, brown, all colors. Where is the media attention for all these murders, where are the celebrities twittering about these tragedies? Why isnt the president speaking about these children?? What is special about this murder?? My heart goes out to this family who have lost a child and also to the family of Zimmerman who is suffering at the hands of all these lunatic black activists who have made it their job to leave wrong addresses on social media sites and have made it known that they want this man dead. Let's not bring racism on the fore front when it doesnt need to be. This wasnt a racist act. He was guilty of profiling because this innocent child seemed to fit the description of persons that HAD commited crimes in the neighborhood. Should this man be punished, absolutely, but i do not believe he intended to murder this child that night or anyone else. I belive he felt at the time that he was protecting his own life. The tragedy is that people feel the need to carry a gun to the grocery store. If he hadnt had the gun, he would have gotten his ass handed to him and rightfully so. Hopefully he would have learned that it is not worth getting out of your car to pursue who you think is a criminal especially when you didnt even witness a crime. As I said, I wish this didnt happen but it did and there is nothing we can do know, but making this a race issue and bringing all the nuts out of the woodwork isnt helping any of us. I am glad that my children are growing up in a better world where they do not see the color of someones skin, they see a person, please can we keep it that way. Dont let one murder turn this around for us.

First of all I would never respond back to a poster who is preacher racism and hatred, so I'm just going to respond to Mo3. I agree with you that all murder victims should get the same compassion and attention. I wish they would. Ask the media why they don't, not my fault! I would defend all of them! Why did Casey Anthony make the new every night for 2 years when parents kill their kids everyday in this country. For some reason the media decided to run with that story just like the Trayvon killing. I'm speaking as a mother with teenagers, I want them to feel safe to walk home at dusk without being approached by strangers. This is the USA and all people regardless of their color are free to walk about. I don't know for sure what happened that night and yes only Zimmerman knows exactly what happened, but he's telling a self serving story and the other guy is dead. But just listening to the 911 calls, you can tell a lot. Zimmerman himself said the boy was running away. It was only a few moments after that you hear the neighbors phone calls to 911 with someone screaming for help......blood curdling screams and fter the shot it was dead silence. Two audio experts already stated that it was not Zimmerman screaming and I trust science. It had to be the boy screaming and why would he be screaming for help if he just jumped someone? Zimmerman's story does not ring true, but he will have his day in court. Maybe if he's lucky, the Casey Anthony jurors will all be available again.

Or...you DO call the police in hopes that your brother (or someone) will go on CNN and say, "You don't call the police if you plan to...yadda yadda". We THE PEOPLE have a very good idea of what transpired here; based on the evidence released, and (most of us) are very open to any new evidence that might change our mind....but until then, please don't tell us what a person will and will not do in regards to a 911 call. Most of us took psych 101 many years ago; and that premeditated call has a very thin veneer.

Can anyone spell correctly, or express an opinion using proper vocabulary and grammar? If no one understands what you are trying to say, what's the point in writing or speaking? It's too bad we seem to have become a nation of illiterate, intolerant haters. Just stop it all.
