Only in America: Piers Morgan on Michael Jackson, the artist

On Monday, Piers Morgan used his "Only in America" segment to paint a rarely seen picture of Michael Jackson, one detailed through the stars personal collection of artwork.

"Few have ever seen it until now," explained Morgan. "This is Michael's private world of paintings and portraits. We've been given rare and extraordinary access inside that hanger. Its location, as I say, has to remain a secret."

Guiding viewers through Jackson's supplies and materials, the host shows a quieter side to the "King of Pop."

"This is how the icon found happiness away from the stage and studio, with brushes, pencils and, in particular, watercolor," noted the "Piers Morgan Tonight" host. "He wanted to be known as an artist, not just the most famous entertainer in modern history."

Estimated to be worth upwards of nine figures, Jackson sketched everything from Peter Pan to the Statue of Liberty, obsessing, at times, over the number seven.

And he also found truth in the words of famed sculptor Michelangelo, clinging to a message that reads: "I know the creator will go, but his work survives. That is why to escape death, I attempt to bind my soul to my work."

In the words of Morgan, "Only in America": "Michael Jackson did not escape death, but his soul does live on in the music and art he created and above all, the lives he touched and forever changed."

WOW, was there nothing this man couldn't do? I saw on another website where someone said that in 1958 when GOD was handing out talent he gave it all to Michael Jackson, I couldn't agree more.

What was done to Mr. Michael Jackson by the mass media and so called "journalists" was a travesty and beyond comprehension, it amounted to nothing less than a modern-day lynching. I have nothing but the upmost respect for him and for what he did and continues to do through all his humanitarian efforts. He gave the underprivileged, the sick and the dying children of the world a sense of self worth, he opened his home, his wallet and the most vulnerable thing in the world, his heart. I will remember him as a man who just wanted to sing and dance and bring a little escapism to people and always, ALWAYS, as a sincere, kind, caring human being who wanted nothing more than to "Heal the World", what more can one person give?

The world is a better place because Mr. Michael Jackson was here and chose to share his God-given talent, his heart and his wealth with us.

@Rose: You see in Michael Jackson the honourable and beautiful spirit and you honour him by your words.
@Joey Romero: You see in Michael Jackson a molester worthy of contempt.

You know what? Its call projection in psychology; you see in others a reflection of your own heart. The molester is not out there Mr Joey...look inside...IS IT SCARY?

Words to live by..."If you didn't see it with your own eyes or hear it with your own ears, don't invent it with your small mind and share it with your big mouth".

There was no limit to the artistic talents of Michael Jackson as is evident in how many ways it manifested itself. He often times gave credit to God for his gifts and it's this humbleness that made the world fall in love with this man. These treasures of Michael's should NOT BE SOLD. A part of the ongoing case the MJEstate has an against Tohme includes these pieces of Michael's art. Tohme manhandled Michael both physically and financially during his short reign as MJ's Manager prior to his death. Tohme misused his Power Of Attorney to "gift" Michael's art to Brett L Strong. The POA did not authorize him to "gift" nor "transfer copyright of these drawiings" to anyone. Since the ownership obviously should belong only to his heirs, Paris, Prince and Blanket should be the only people to own these treasures. They should not be sold, reproduced, distributed in any way until the children are in a position to make that call. The MJEstate is legally bound to make sure his chiildren's rights are protected in this matter. Just like Howard Mann, Brett L Strong has ingratiated himself into Katherine's life to hide behind her skirts.. This type of self-interested persons, were constantly circling Michael in his life and it would seem that his mother, Katherine suffers from the same sort of soft-hearted trusting nature as her son.

@Rose suggests MJ's treatment by the media was a 'lynching.' That may be just the right term. MJJJustice says the world 'fell in love with this man.' Also true. But I still don't feel like I understand the vehemence of the hate that was – and still is! – directed toward him. I wish one of the two child accusers would speak up while they're still with us, and tell the truth about those allegations. Journalist Charles Thomson has suggested there are parallels between MJ's persecution and the case of Jack Johnson, the first black heavyweight champion who was jailed back in 1910 or 1920. I think he may be right.

it was Michael who made the suggestion that his life paralled Jack Johnson..you will see the fighter in You Rock My World video. . It's not hard to understand why he felt a connection, both successful black mean determined to live their lives by they own dreams whlst soceity tried to keep them in their place. Listen to Michael talk to Rev Jessie Jackson about Jack Johnson. – Google "The Unforgiveable Blackness" on youtube

Bless all of the above posters. Michael's gifts were unparalleled and so diverse. Those of us who love him must continually and consistently stand in his defense. I am reading Taraborelli's book for the second time and am reminded that negative treatment Michael endured started all the way back in the "Bad" era. That's a long time to endure such pain. So much talent; so much jealousy.

Michael Jackson was a genius, and the world will never see another like him. Time will reveal the truth – Michael will be vindicated. Those who tortured and reviled him will be revealed as liars, jealous of a black man's success.

Why is it surprising to some that Michael Jackson was talented with a paint brush and pen? He was first, and formost, an artist. His artistic talent expressing itself in every aspect of his life. When the bottom-feeders of society were busy trying to eviscerate this man, he was quietly capturing images and expressing his genious imagination on canvas. That so many hideous stories made headlines over and over again, and were simply not true, remains a great tragedy when one examines Jackson's life. Time will vindicate Michael Jackson and his legacy of humanitarianism will one day shine as brightly as his dazzling talent.

Morgan claims the art is in an undisclosed location which must be kept secret. Too bad he didn't do any research on his subject (as usual). Every true MJ fan knows where this art is located, and, as MJJJusticeProject has so eloquently commented here, there is ongoing litigation against Tohme Tohme for giving Michael's art to Strong. Just because Strong might have mentored Michael in "art" 25 years ago gives him no right to Michael's production. Very interesting that a copy of "The Book", the first pic Strong painted of Michael Jackson, sits in the office of Tohme's attorney in Santa Monica, a stone's throw from the "secret" location of Michael's art. The art is the property of the Estate to be passed down to his children, not sold to fund a "Michael Jackson Wedding Chapel in Vegas" as Strong stated during the interview. What BS!

You are incorrect on everything! "The Book" original painting was sold by MJ and Brett over twenty years ago it currently resides on display in New York the one you refer too is only a serigraphy copy of the original. The rest of your comments are just garbage Brett Strong as joint creator obviously owns at the least 50 percent of these works and why shouldn't he be involved re determining their destiny. Mrs Jackson is no fool she knows who her sons real friends were and she had many years to judge this who do you think looked after her well being after the death of MJ the estate lawyers? There only interest is to bleed the estate for exorbitant fees as long as they can. You should check your facts before deriding people.

Excuse me – Michael had MANY, MANY friends, across the Comic book, Science Fiction, Horror communities! This is such BS, it's leaking out into the streets!

I'm so sick of these lies, for he had many of us as friends. Al Lewis and I pulled the prank of the century, in fooling the Media back in '95, when he lied to A Current Affair about not knowing Michael was Nosferatu. WE ALL KNEW who he was, and treated him like a regular Joe – because he was ONE OF US!

The media is such a bunch of fools, for not asking the correct questions; too many assumptions.

We have always been there for Michael...can't say that much for the money grubbers.

Always love you, "My Fan Boy."
