Mark O'Mara on new evidence: "It's several pieces of the puzzle that we now have to put together"

As new evidence is released in the Trayvon Martin case, tonight Piers Morgan welcomes Mark O'Mara for his expert analysis and reaction.

Limited by legal guidelines, O'Mara is unable to speak about the discovery material specifically. However, he does share his thoughts on the process to this point:

"Well, we knew it was coming. It's several pieces of the puzzle that we now have to put together," says George Zimmerman's defense attorney. "I would only ask that everyone wait until we have the whole pieces – all of them together – to look and see what the whole picture is."

With more discovery to come, including a whole series of depositions, the "Piers Morgan Tonight" host asked about the possibility of the case never making it to trial:

"Well the only way that would happen, of course, is if some resolution beforehand, and that could include any type of pretrial motions that might end in the dismissal of the charges," says tonights guest. "But we're way too early to decide what motions and what their possibility of success would be."

Watch the clip, and listen to the interview, then tune in this evening at 9 p.m. as O'Mara details the role Florida's "stand your ground" law may play as the case continues.

I heard a list of medications that Zimmerman takes (list given his doc) and there are a couple on there that make marijuana usage by Martin like drinking water. But they haven't listed these drugs publicly. I heard it this morning when the discovery was talked about on TV.

I wondered about this too. These prescription drugs could have a big effect on Zimmerman's actions that night.

very well could of. i would wonder how long he was taking these drugs too. Adderall itself is similar to speed but with long term, maintenance use i would imagine he would have built up a tolerance meaning it would have affected him very little. the fact that he is taking insomnia medication tells me otherwise though. It seems like he is in a catch 22 of sorts seeing as the drugs counteract one another. Uppers in the morning Downers in the evening. I guess we will find out everything when all the facts are released(if that ever happens).

After reading your comment it appeared to me that you hadn't read the article, so I feel obliged to inform you that your comment was completely off topic and had nothing to do with this conversation. You might as well have blurted out that you have a new crock pot at a business meeting about the financial health of a company. That's how embarrassing your comment was to you. I understand, you want to talk about your crock pot, but we're talking about something else. You'll have to discuss that after the meeting. The topic is the George Zimmerman murder trial for having shot an unarmed 17-year-old boy on his way home with some candy and iced tea he bought at a local store.

Unless it is released that Trayvon had a knife or a gun, I don't believe Zimmerman is innocent of murder. He chased down Trayvon & resultingly a confrontation occurred and the pursued party is dead. Unfortunately, based on Florida law, it does look like Zimmerman will get away with his string of very bad decisions.

When did Z chase martin down? On the 911 tape there is nothing to indicate he continued to pursue him after the dispatcher told him "O.K. we don't need you to do that". Z responded "O.K.". However according to the 911 call and the testimony of Martins girlfriend it does appear that Martin initiated contact with Z twice. Facts are always getting in the way.

Why don't you just make up the rest of the story? Looks like you created your own beginning of it. How could you be biased on behalf of someone who is not an officer of the law, profiled someone, pursued him and killed him...and somehow you believe that Zimmerman is the innocent party? Looks like you're still mad about OJ. If it makes you feel better, I think OJ did it...OK?

This is a response to the person that said zimerman did not chase Trayvon. Get your facts straight! Zimmerman is heard on the 911 call telling dispatch that Trayvon was running away. When asked by dispatcher if he was pursing Trayvon, Zimmerman replied"yes" the dispatch told Zimmerman"we don't need you to do that". Zimmerman ignored their request that he not pursue Trayvon and then you hear running. It was heard very clearly because the person running while on cell phone with 911 dispatch was Zimmerman and you can hear the heavy, out of breath running by a person who is obviously not in tip top physical shape which is zimmerman's fat ass! So be a cheerleader for Zimmerman! You are definitely on the wrong side! The most damming evidence against Zimmerman was made public by him! With his 911 call that he thought would be his alibi for killing an innocent teen boy! I personally believe Zimmerman was out on that property and saw Trayvon leaving the gated community on his way to store. And when Trayvon came back Zimmerman had to know ge belonged there because it is a gated community. How did Trayvon get in the gated community without some kind of entrance code or key?

That's right. Zimmerman chased Trayvon Martin. In addition to his own admissions on the 911 call, we have a witness who said she saw a chase taking place right before a fist fight. What's more, we have the testimony of Martin's girlfriend who reports he said he was scared, but that he was too tired to keep on running, so he'd walk to his residence. By the way, according to Florida Statute 776.013(5)(b), Trayvon Martin was legally at his residence. Finally, we have the additional report from Martin's girlfriend that Martin had eluded Zimmerman only to be found by him again. If Zimmerman gets away with this shooting, something needs to change in Florida. Oh, and one more thing. We have statements from Bill Lee, Jr. The police chief who stepped down, that Zimmerman that the Sanford Police wish Zimmerman had stayed in his vehicle. One investigator said that Zimmerman could have avoided the shooting all together. Jeb Bush, who signed "Stand Your Ground" into law said Zimmerman cannot claim any protection under his law, because Trayvon Martin had ran away, period.

And that is exactly why zimmerman's bond should be revoked and he should be put back inti jail until trial! This would be the right thing to do. Zijmerman is not worth the sympathies of media or anyone because he murdered Trayvon after profiling him and he is sitting back free on bond and there is so many things bad that are happening because of what Zimmerman has done. he is getting too much attention and he's loving it. He has made racist strenebts about other Hispanics and about black people and there should not be any questions as to why he profiled Trayvon and stalked him and murdered him. He has also thanked supporters that have written him in jail abs Zimmerman has said "this will all work out for me" he is crazy and arrogant as hell and he thinks he's above the law! He has delusions of granduer and even though he is half Peruvian and half white, he considers or wishes that he was white and hates that part of him that is not! He is even listed as a white male on the police report the night he murdered Trayvon! So for all the Hispanic supporters of Zimmerman, he doesn't like you and doesn't want to be part of you! So stop supporting him just because!

      Sure it is....
But it was an unrealistic question to pose in the first place, since TM was in the development and since GZ did get out of the car. You could just as easily ask "if there wasn't a neighborhood watch would TM still be alive?" It was only asked because if either party wasn't there this couldn't have happened but he wanted to get GZ's lawyer to say "If he had stayed in the car....."

Yes GZ by his own remarks was angry about crime in his neighborhood and if it wasn't TM he shot it would have been someone else at another time so Marks was way off base with his comment.

The excellant interview I was referring to was with Corey, NPR correspondent and the other man. I'm sorry I can not remember your name but this video popped up on this site.
George Zimmerman, off duty, as a volunteer security guard, made a bad judgement call and chose to get out of his truck and persue Trayvon Martin. There was no need for Mr. Zimmerman to instigate the altercation and kill Trayvon Martin. Mr. Zimmerman is the instigator that lead to the killing of Trayvon Martin.

I really have something, from my gut, to say, but I am waiting, until the trial, so I can see who is going stand up and tell the truth.
There was no reason for that gun to be used.
I believe Mr. Zimmerman knows that.

Was it a bad decision to get out of the car? yes, probably.
Did GZ get jumped after he decided to stop pursuing TM? don't know, I wasn't there either.
Everyone has a gut feeling about this one, the issue is that there's only one person left who can tell what really went down that night so that leaves us with bits and pieces of information that have all been spun by the media to get ratings and to help stir the pot.

What I do know is that if I get jumped while carrying a gun, get my head bounced off the ground to the extent that I can feel blood and then also get my nose busted up I'm not going to wait until I get a good look (in the dark) at what the guys is using as a weapon whether it might be his hands, a knife or a pipe. I'm going to draw and shoot.

      • Maybe....

Bmac – Although you would make the same choice that GZ did doesn't mean this is the correct choice. I think this was poor judgement on GZ's side for getting out of his vehicle to investigate and I believe most rational people will find that this equates to pursuit because he followed TM in his vehicle first, likely this will put the Stand Your Ground law out of reach for him and I suspect this is the same reasoning and conclusion the Special Prosecutor came to before filing charges. What an unfortunate mistake this was.

He was completely aware that in shooting tm (no matter how wrong it would be in most states... and morally), he would not be committing a florida state crime, so he did it.... no matter how dumb, he probably knew he was in the clear when he did it. and he probably wouldn't have even been prosecuted if the media didn't exploit/capitalize on this by pushing some far fetched race story. makes me sick. gw is a dick, but he knows the system and worked it.

This is the most "one sided" show I have seen from Piers Morgan ever since I have been watching him. It seems he deserved that verbal licking last month about his lack of empathy for the legacy of wrongs perpetrated against black americans. The insinuations placed against Trayvon for defending his space is insulting at best and reeks of assumptions on placing blame. The shocker in all this is that ZM refused treatment at the hospital, and also sought out a "fit for work" paper from his personal doctor! What about the claims from ZM's brother that he was close to a vegetable???

  11. Why!

I have heard that in FL that the "Stand your Ground" law is what Zimmerman is using as his defense. But what about Trayvon – did he not have the right to Stand His Ground. If someone comes after you that you don't know; you fall into the fight or flight mode. Could it be the Zimmerman lost the fight after chasing Trayvon and chose to shot the young man? Just a question!

TM did run away, BUT came back to attack zimmerman for following him. TM didnt try to engage in a conversation he just wanted to bust up whoever was following him. So he attacked and got shot. From the reports it was between1-36 inches away. That translates to me that Zimmerman was on the ground getting pummeled and had to unholster and discharge. TM didnt stand his ground he attacked Zimmerman after running away and coming back. Zimmerman stood his ground. Not hard to understand.

Yep. Couldn't agree more. A short real story. I was once engaged to a girl from Iraq. She has 4 ssteirs and she's the oldest of the 5. This family and all of their other family referred to themselves as Chaldean-American (Catholics) and marrying outside of that was for the most part, frowned upon. One day I got into a discussion with one of her ssteirs about that Hyphen. That hyphen has Always bugged me. Asking her why she wanted to be Half an American. She was born Here after all. Of course, I was wrong for asking to begin with but I still never got the answer. To this day I still don't understand why people prefer to be put into nice neat little boxes.

Its crazy how the media now wants to portray Trayvon as a "pot head". Ponder this how many people do you know directly or indirectly that have or currently smoke weed. I can gaurantee that anyone who reads this knows at least one person white or black. Is it illegal sure but so is texting and driving in most states.

As far as Zimmerman being guilty we all have our diffrent opions on it. But none of that matters anymore because of the case with Marissa Alexander. What does that have to do with this you may ask. They gave her 20 years and she didnt kill anyone. If the court doesnt find Zimmerman guilty Florida will have the same race riots LA did in the 90's. So self defense or not Zimmerman is done for.

Honestly I look forward to whatever actions society chooses after this case. The credibility of TM's case should have went right out the window the instant Jesse Jackson and Rodney King opened their baboon mouths. Stand there and point fingers calling others "racist" because some choose to make apparent the obvious racial undertone of this trial. Basically blacks are whining, Black supremacists have now joined in (if they were white it would be racists and have some klan reference for sure) I look forward to the riots and when all the cards fall, I guarantee it wont be the whites in the street looting and acting like animals.. it never is.

What happened to Trayvon is terrible no kid should lose his life like that, but ppl need to stop taking sides until all the facts and evidence is shown in court. PPl need to stop using racism as the main reason for what happened. Only Treyvon n Zimmerman know what happened that night, we are no judges let's wait for all the evidence and facts before condening anyone. I am sick and tired of ppl using racism to do or to get away with things. People of color always use racism for everything that happened to them. They are injustice for everyone not just black, there is injustice also for whites, asian, what about spanic ppl? They get treated like crap all the time and you dont hear them blaming it on racism. Injustice is everywhere, not just on black community. Doesnt matter what color or background you are, if you comitted a crime you should pay for it no matter what, but not use racism as a cause to either get away with murder or gain simpathy to cover one.

And people who are not of color, who are typically guilty of racism, always try to claim that people of color always use the race card. People who are not of color always try to pretend that racism doesn't exist when in fact it clearly still does and most of you are just mad because black people don't just sit back and let you people get away with it!! You sound so stupid because racism still exists and is more apparent today then it ever was. To the person who claims black people or others of color whine everytime something happens! I don't know what you ate referring to but I'll use Trayvon as an example since I believe that is what you are talking about! First there have been numerous murders of many people of all races! But black men have been murdered by white men for reasons that are always racist! The hangings of black men down south just because they were black! The imprisonment of black men at a higher rate than any other race! There is an epidemic of hatred towards black people! Mostly black men and it has been going on way too long! When Trayvonnwas murdered by Zimmerman that was the straw that broke the camels back! And black people were not the only ones that felt enough is enough! The only white people that have a problem with us , what you called whining because something happened is racist, ignorant coldhesrted individuals like the person who claimed we are whiny to begin with! We will move on when the racists are no longer the people in power!

I agree with you 100%!! TM never stood a chance and GZ knew exactly what he was doing and planning on doing from the moment he made the 911 call!!! How can anyone possibly say self defense after you basically stalk someone. If GZ would have kept his racist butt in his car, TM would still be here today. What would any of you do if a stranger was following you like a maniac, then has the audacity to approach you and you have no idea what this person may or may not do to you? GZ is a racist, point blank, period–who is trying to get away with murdering an innocent black kid!!! What a disgrace!!! What if this was one of your kid's?

It is obvious what happened GZ thought the 911 tape would protect him but it actually is one piece of the best evidence against him! Play by play of him stalking, chasing, and shooting and killing Trayvon in cold blood. I am really angered by some people mostly racists and gun nuts that continue to support Zimmerman. He is not worth it. I understand his family supporting him but not lying for him! The family doctor that falsified a medical report probably because zimmerman's daddy the judge asked him to. GZ is a cold hearted, manipulative person. You can see it in his eyes! He has been a racist all his life! He has posted racist remarks on his myspace page, which now has beentaken down but the evidence has already been taken. He racially harassed co-workers on his job. This man is not worth the sympathies of the media that now seems to be siding with this killer and the gun nuts I ask you this, do you really want Zimmerman to be your poster boy for gun rights?! He's crazy! That doesn't make your cause look any beter. I just wish Zimmerman would just admit that he was wrong and should not have murdered a young boy just because he has his own issues he has to deal with. This man is causing more trouble than he is worth! I pray all turns out well. Justice For Trayvon!!!

What piece of evidence have you seen that would lead you to believe that George Zimmerman was a racist?? CBS Chicago reported 10 people were killed and more than 40 wounded in violence throughout the city the weekend before TM was shot. A 100 black teenagers have been killed by gun violence in Chicago this past year. Where's the outporing of support for those victims of "non-racist" black-on-black violence? This story is only relevant because the victim is black and the shooter "sort of looks white-ish".

This case shows us as American's that we are not as far as we thought concerning racism. When issues like this come up, we run to our race and debate. We have sugar coated this thing for years when we should meet this head on and do something about it before it boils over to something larger. I would like to ask one question to each individual; If I was to follow you in your community and you don't know who I am, what would you do and how would you react? Over half of the public has below average IQ. It shows in the comments section of articles like this. I also believe more children that don’t have a clue what they are talking about, post comments than adults, that do.

I rarely read the comment section of these articles any more. People form an opinion for one reason or another, look for facts to prove they are right and disregard everything else.

They may not be able to comprehend all the facts. There life experience may be limited to high school and teenage friends. Whatever the cause their “opinions” add nothing to the discussion and only serve to instigate hate.

It would probably be better if the comment sections were dropped on these articles altogether.

It's good to have you baaaacccckk! We, like so many otrhes have been swept away by the Martin case. It makes my heart hurt, and we desperately want justice for this young man and peace for his family. Thank you for bringing it out. Even though we're food bloggers we can still share what is on our minds and our hearts. You've done it in a very respectful way, thank you again. And, thanks for bringing a yummy recipe back with you. What a wonderful way to serve peas. The Mr. will be doing the happy dance!

Anonymous asked:"If double jedropay attaches in a state court, does that also prevent the feds from trying him for the same charges? Also, can the prosecutor appeal to the supreme court if she is defeated in state court?"NO, the prosecutor cannot appeal if you are acquitted. As for prosecution by the feds, bear in mind that the state and fed are two different governments with two different laws and judicial systems. Double jedropay does not apply if the feds elect to try you under their laws after the state has failed.

Its clear Zimmerman followed Trayvon and it he did so right up to the confrontation. It also seems he did not identify himself. I think it’s reasonable to believe that Trayvon felt threatened because he was being followed, and therefore confronted or attacked Zimmerman in self defense believing Zimmerman was about to attack him . How does the "Stand your ground" apply on Trayvon's behalf? He wasn't following Zimmeran, Zimmerman was following him. Trayvon had two options, to run or stand his ground and fight. He chose the latter and unfortunately was killed for it, but it was his right to do so when he felt threatened. Zimmerman should not have followed him!

  22. lets see what happens

TM didn't deserve to die this way but when you are being followed and you turn around and attack your follower bad things are going to happen. TM picked the wrong guy to fight that night and it cost him his life

Looks like all the pundits and politicians who jumped to conclusions from day one and simply exploited the story will have to eat their words now. Looking at the evidense to date would it EVER be possible for this to go to trial when the charge is 2nd Degree Murder?. Murder? The prosecutor was just reacting to the pressure in applying Murder 2 - "an intentional killing caused by the offenders lack of concern for human life". Hard to make a case for that with 2 witnesses willing to testify to Martin's MMA style attack and the "stand your ground" law that may or may not be applied depending on your point of view. Any lesser charge may have at least gone to the jury. With the evidence we've seen so far I don't think a conviction is possible...without an all black jury.

Support George Zimmerman's defense! Don't let Martin's lynch mob intimidate you, or you could be next!

It appears Trayvon was taught as many minors are. If a stranger follows you, attempts to touch you or stop you and you do not know this person you should assume the worst.
Scream for help and fight like HELL!!! This sad situation shows that at least Trayvon did attempt to stand his ground and fight this stranger that was following him in the dark of night. Because if he'd have run this stalking Zimmerman may have shot him in the back and the lie would have been “he thought” the black minor was running away from a crime...
I wonder if Trayvon thought to himself I see this guy has his hands in his waist band, he's coming toward me. There’s something wrong with this guy he acts like he's on drugs or something??

People keep saying "blacks are whinnying" well let's clear up one thing when blacks kill other races we don't have to whine or show our support for justice!!! Want to know why? The black person commitenting the crime is ALWAYS arrested and prosecuted so there is nothing for blacks or the other race to rant on about or demand justice!!!! I'm sure a AMERICANS if it wasn't any justice for those innocent people harmed we would stand march and support them too!!! No matter what race! jUSTICE for Trayvon will be served or there will never be any PEACE!!!!

Did you ask him why his clients clothing that he was wearing when he murdered Trayvon on a rainy night, why was zimmerman's jacket, front and back. His jeans, grey shirt and his shoes showed no blood drops or spatters from him or Trayvon?! Why if zimmerman's head was busted and his nose broken there was no blood on his clothing?! Why if Trayvon was supposedly on top of Zimmerman beating him on a rainy night on wet grass, then why is zimmerman's clothing dry and free of grass stains?! Everyone knows Zimmerman is a liar! Him, his daddy the judge and his evil wife Shellie. Lock them all up! Jen Bush already stated that Zimmerman's situation should not be protected under Florida's Stand your ground flaw! That's not a typo. It is a flaw not a law.
