Marion Jones on tough times: "The single worst moment was sitting in solitary confinement on my boys' birthdays"

Coming up this evening at 9 p.m., "Piers Morgan Tonight" welcomes Marion Jones for an honest and revealing sit down interview.

A former world and Olympic champion, Jones forfeited the bulk of her achieved accolades following a 2007 admission of performance enhancing drug use.

Having initially lied to a grand jury about the doping, Jones was sentenced to six months in prison:

"The single worst moment was sitting in solitary confinement on my boys' birthdays and not getting a chance to talk to them or - or hold them or hug them," Jones tells Piers Morgan. "It wasn't having to give back my medals. It wasn't the scandal. It wasn't all that. It was not - it was, I think, disappointing the ones that loved me and cared for me and supported me and cheered me on, knowing that I hurt them."

The mother of three children, Jones emphasizes honesty and forgiveness, both with her own kids, and the youth she mentors:

"In my household, we teach our kids that we all make mistakes. Like mommy makes mistakes...I'm not an exception. But it's what you do after the mistake," says the 36-year-old. "When I talk with young people now, that's what I tell them. 'Hey, OK, you're going to make a mistake, be prepared. But do the right thing afterward.'"

Watch the clip, then tune in this evening at 9 p.m. as Jones opens up about past missteps and resurrecting her image.

As a former athletes and coach who has coached 11 Olympic athletes in track and field, Marion Jones is still a class act. Marion didn't mention that she made her first Olympic team at the age of 16 yrs. old, but I believe her mother thought she was too young to attend the games at the time. She didn't need performance enhancement to be on top, she would have gotten there anyway. I wish more people understood what running track professionally really means, it's tough; and its not the NBA or NFL by any stretch.

Since Mitt only has 351 delegates the RNC will have an open convention. Do you think they will select a real Conservative like Newt, one who can actually defeat Barack Obama?

FACTS ABOUT BROKERED CONVENTIONS Did you know Lincoln was nominated as the Republican candidate through a brokered convention? The favorite at the time was William H. Seward. Lincoln was regarded as a dark horse contender with no chance of victory. However, he won the nomination on the third ballot, and as we all know, went on to win the presidency that November..FORCE A BROKERED cONVENTION!!! VOTE NEWT!!!

Lincoln isn't the only Republican -> Other Republican presidents who were nominated at a brokered convention include:
        – Rutherford Hayes (7th ballot)
        – James Garfield (36th ballot)
        – Warning Harding (10th ballot) Harding started out at 6.7 % of the votes and ended up winning with 70.35%.
        – Dwight D. Eisenhower (2nd ballot)
        VOTE NEWT!

Good for you, Godsgal! I pray all Californians ... and Texans ... and all the republicans in the rest of the primary states will have their eyes opened to the real solutions that Newt Gingrich has for our country. He truly loves our country. The whole reason he signed up to run for president was because of his heart for the future for his grandchildren. It certainly was not for accolades for himself.

America is a REPUBLIC, we send delegates and representatives to assemble and get business done. Primaries are for picking delegates to go to convention and elect the BEST NOMINEE. GOP convention is in August. Until then there is no nominee. VOTE NEWT and we can run a REAL CONSERVATIVE, one who will DEFEAT BARACK OBAMA in November. A VOTE for MITT is a vote for OBAMA!

I like what Marion Jones said about making mistakes. Best not to make them, but when we do, the important thing is how we respond when confronted. Proverbs 28:13 "He who conceals his sins does not prosper,
but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy."

Yes, they do have a strong ground game because they understand the primary system set up for this Republic. They are gobbling up delegates left and right...which convention because they will prevent Romney from hitting the magic number of delegates! Of course I love this because after the first ballot, when Romney fails to secure 1144, most delegates are then unbound........leaving a gaping whole for a true conservative like NEWT to swoop in and capture the majority! I Love this country!!!

Look, I WORK in NYC media and this whole town is gearing up to destroy Romney totally. You know what the biggest hit on Broadway is, soon to be a motion picture? The Book of Mormon, the Musical, by the South Park guys, sold out a year in advance, it eviscerates the lunatic faith. The people laughing their heads off in the theater will be all of America by November. A female reporter just showed up to an event riding in a dog kennel on top of a car. Romney refuses to play hardball with Obama and cannot seem to construct a convincing response to those attacking his cult, including those by his own cousin who used to belong to it. this is a train wreck. Most American voters are professed Christians. That is certainly true for the GOP. How can the party force Christians to accept a nominee who claims to be pro-life, yet skips the GA state GOP convention to got to Florida to collect $50,000 a plate from the manufacturers of Plan B, a drug that induces abortion by killing the baby in its mother's womb and doing so much damage to the woman and I'm not even talking about side-effects, just the normal action of the drug. The Gingrich Jobs and Growth Plan returns America to robust job creation with a bold set of tax cuts and regulatory reforms that will free American entrepreneurs to invest and hire, as well as by reforming the Federal Reserve and creating a training requirement for extended federal unemployment benefits to encourage work and improve the quality of our workforce. According to Fiscal Associates, Gingrich’s economic policies would balance the budget within four years and lead to 6.6 million new jobs created in two years.

How crazy does the GOP have to be to nominate a governor who implemented the socialistic health care plan on which PPACA (Obamacare) was based. The American people didn't want this nightmare, and even more dislike it today and next year if it all kicks in our health care costs will sky-rocket. There is no way Romney can defeat Obama and even if he did, why does anyone think he would undo the very same plan that he implemented in his state? We need someone with real solutions and a record of getting them implemented. Speaker Gingrich delivered in 1994 and he'll do it again. Newt did not drop out. He suspended not ended his campaign. People are being told that Newt dropped out, that he isn't an option, that only Romney remains, and that Mitt's inevitable. And that's simply false. Newt is still on the ballot. He's a consistent conservative with a proven track record, and he can beat Obama in a debate and in November. Romney can't. And, Romney has nowhere near the 1,144 delegates needed to win the nomination. A brokered GOP convention will give Newt a chance to shine, and the delegates, a chance to get it right, by selecting someone who can win against Obama, and win for the American People... Newt Gingrich.

That's a great point. A suspended campaign is usually out of money. McCain suspended his campaign to go back to DC to give $870 billion TARP to Wall Street – that didn't work out to well for the rest of us. So Newt is still on the ballots, still has delegates and after the first ballot at the RNC convention in August all the delegates will be released and Newt can pick up the nomination and defeat Obama in November. I guess his numbers in the news are up to the good people of Arkansas, Kentucky and Texas now. But the nomination is up to the delegates in Tampa this summer. Pray America, we need a man like Newt to get us out of the mess we're in.

In the upcoming primaries, tomorrow in Arkansas and Kentucky and on may 29 in Texas – vote for Newt to let the GOP you want a conservative candidate and in the off chance that Romney wins anyway (Paul is going to make that impossible); then you can hold your nose once again and vote for him and watch him lose to Obama in November. The point the President is trying to make, is that being a Venture Capitalist is not training for President of the USA. Romney is great at making a profit at a business. The USA IS NOT a profit making business nor should it be. The role of Government is a different animal. It is to Serve and Protect the interest of the population. It is also much more complex than a single business. Why doesn't Romney tout his success as Governor of Massachusetts? Oh, it wasn't all that successful? If he is unable to brag about that part of his career, what would make anyone think he can handle the Presidency? I think of him as a poor little rich boy. Anyone who has a lot of money can make money in business, you just hire the smartest people you can find to run the business.

I do not believe with all my heart that Marion Jones knowingly took the enhancing drugs. I have been a runner for many years and there is something in the eyes of runners that you just cant fake. They wear their hearts in their eyes. She looked so determined to win and win honestly I believe her. I feel sadly, she took a hit for someone else. So sad for she was a marvelous athlete.

Hi, I competed with Marion Jones for several years and was ranked 2nd in the Nation to her. Please feel free to google me. I was chosen Gatorade Female Athlete of the Meet over her twice. She was the only person in Track that I couldn't beat, and once the steriod situation came into the picture it then made since. I think that being an Athlete that the World can see and being an Athlete that young kids look up to should be the first incintive to do the right thing. I don't feel for her, not at all. To make things worse, she has ruined lives of those that participated in the relays. As a World Class Athlete it's not about you,it's about how one repesents their country. I have set records, broke records, completed in the Olympic Trials and did it all with hard work, focus, dedication, and free of drugs. One thing is for certain, the real Athletes in Track and Field will continue to strive to be the best in the world with or without Marion Jones.

Somehow I like her, I always have. There is a nice quality about her. It might also be the reason that she allowed herself to get into trouble; her self-assuredness. I welcome her living on a good track and look for good things to come from her. If you can still run dear, you can probably handle marathons. More importantly though is the life that you lead outside of sports; it seems you know how to do this well.

    Wow Pierce,

Nice to take this little snippet of her time solitary and NOT tell the whole story. As she said this was the single worse moment but also her time solitary is when she truly reflected on what she did. She found herself, a new ambition for life, realized her mistakes in life and took this time not to fuel more anger but turn it into a positive.

In her interview with Dr. Phil she explains this and her new book show how this time was perhaps a life saver for her. Made her a better person. Once again Mr. Morgan, you choose to show the only the bad and try trash everything in this country.
