READ about Piers Morgan's long career in journalism here.
On Tuesday evening, daytime television icon Regis Philbin kicked off "Guest Host Week" on "Piers Morgan Tonight," welcoming his good friend, and late night great, David Letterman. The extremely rare and exclusive interview marked Philbin's first stint as a television host since leaving "Regis and Kelly" in November.
During the program, Philbin and Letterman discussed their beloved friend, the late Johnny Carson. Sitting uncomfortably while watching tape of his "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson" comedic debut, Letterman recalled the shows supportive atmosphere for young comics:
"The last thing they wanted to do is have a guy come on and not do well, or have a woman come on and not do well."
Delving deeper, Letterman talked about his close relationship with Carson, recalling their mutual admiration for Jack Benny:
"He loved Jack," remembered Letterman. "And I think owed a great deal to Jack. His delivery and his mannerisms and his humor. And he would just start telling story after story about Jack Benny."
Watch the clips, and listen to the interview, as two modern-day television leaders reflect upon the entertaining industry icons who helped pave their way.

give Regis a show. Are you listening Oprah?
Bring back Piers! Regis and Dave Letterman was an exercise in mutual back-slapping, not an interview. Yawn!
I really enjoyed this interview. Regis had lots of energy and Dave was kinda laid back. I had no idea they were such good buddies and it was nice to see. It was a great interview and I think Regis needs to be in that chair more often. He is made for this kind of work. Bring him back.
I miss Regis on tv. Yes, someone give him a show!
So sorry I missed this interview! David Letterman is one of the smartest and funniest people in Show Business. I love you Mr. Letterman!
