Tonight, Michael Vick sits down with Piers Morgan for a primetime exclusive. The Quarterback of the Philadelphia Eagles is ready to talk about his life outside football and his second chance at life both on the field and off.
In April 2007, Vick was implicated in an illegal interstate dog fighting ring that had operated over five years. Then in August of the same year, he pleaded guilty and spent 21 months in prison, followed by 2 months in home confinement. Now Vick is ready to talk about hitting bottom in his new book "Michael Vick: Finally Free, An Autobiography."

Anne, some things are just so morally reprehensible, that it is beyond mere mortals to forgive them. This is one of those things for most people. The fact that you can forgive him, leads me to believe you never thought what he did was that bad in the first place. That makes you almost as repulsive as mv is, imho.

To chime in on what others have said. To forgive is one thing but if you really want to know exactly what Michael Vick did read "The Lost Dogs". He did much worse than have a dog fighting ring. He killed several dogs (the one's that weren't aggressive enough). Furthermore, he lied about even knowing about the whole fighting ring and put the blame on his cohorts. He also blamed his race. It wasn't until the others turned on him and told authorities exactly what he did.
So, to forgive is one thing but the fact that he also murdered, in my eyes, is unforgivable. He got off easy.
It's one thing to forgive, but Michael Vick should not have been allowed to return to make huge amounts of money in
football......that is unless he donated 90% of it to animal welfare groups. He would still be better off than most of the
population! We paid to house and feed him in prison..........
Now he writes a book...........he should not be able to keep that money either!

I could never forgive someone who spins the ugly truth by proclaiming that he "has helped more dogs than he hurt." He got that line from his BFF Wayne Pacelle, who has defended his cohort by declaring that Michael Vick has "saved ten times more dogs than he hurt." Has Vick really saved the lives of more than 500 dogs? What does that mean, anyway? Most appalling is the use of the word "HURT" Even Jeffrey Dahmer expressed genuine remorse for the innocents he tortured and killed. Dahmer is one of the few – maybe the only – serial killer/psychopath who wanted to go into the general population in prison, knowing that he would be killed by inmates. He was – not long after he was imprisoned.
Michael Vick, on the other hand, is "finally free" to have a wedding that was described as befitting a head of state. He is free to portray himself as part of the solution to animal cruelty, free to be a sociopath on a book tour. Too bad the dogs he "hurt" will never get a chance for freedom.

Exactly!!! I find it sooo hypocritical of these folks who make all this fuss about Michael Vick (who was convicted by our justice system and served the penalty handed out by the law). Yet these same folks say nothing about the more serious atrocities being committed against HUMAN BEINGS in the world today.
This reminds me of a case several years ago in California where a woman killed her husband because her husband was upset that she (and their daughter) were draining the family's resources to raise horses. They cared more about the bloody horses.
What you vick nut huggers need to realize is that vick had the money to humanely euthanize the dogs he didn't want, he had a vet tech that came to the house of horrors on a regular basis, this could have been done. Instead, he chose to electrocute, drown, hang, and beat them to death. Tell me, what do you think that says about mv? Ok, you're gonna say, well dead is dead. Tell me, vick nut hugger, would you rather be tortured to death or given a lethal injection? TRACY, He already gave a ton of money to the Humane Society of the U.S., through the Eagles ($50,000) and through his wealthy colleagues and supporters (lots more than $50,000). That is one of the main reasons serial golddigger Wayne Pacelle, the HSUS CEO, partnered with Vick in the first place. If you have been hoodwinked by those TV ads to donate to the "U.S. Humane Society, you are not alone. Please read through the comments here before you make that mistake again. And do read "The Indictment of Wayne Pacelle" online for the truth about HSUS and Michael Vick, among other outrages.
You won't be able to find him in the afterlife because he won't be in the same place as those of us who have a conscience.
I totally understand the angry words and hatred towards Vick, but I have to leave my emotions and personal convictions aside on this one. I feel that everyone deserves a second chance if they prove genuine remorse for their actions. Only time will tell if he's genuine.
If you read the facts - the court transcripts and activities that transpired over X years up leading up to prison - it shows that Vick played a far deeper role in that ring and evaded most responsibility up until the last minute ... thinking he could get off with a fine, apology, and a couple sensitivity classes.
I had no expectations or sympathy before watching Piers' interview with Vick. I'm an animal lover, and someone working through my local shelter in the Midwest to lead the crusade that raise awareness around the loving, wonderful animals that pit bulls can be. Therefore, the whole situation truly sickens me, and reminds me what happens DAY AFTER DAY in this country to animals who are truly and wholly dependent on us. However, I personally just have to find forgiveness and hope, based on all Vick's doing through the US Human Society's guidance, some of this will sink in, that he's truly repentant, and he'll serve as a very visible, vocal example out there.
If you're REALLY, TRULY outraged about all this and a true crusader for animals, I ask that you re-direct your energy to those who enable people like Vick ... for better and for worse:
*Maybe to the Eagles who hired him? Are they validating his behavior? Should we be angry with them?
*To the US Human Society. Go to their site, and see how they're humbly, graciously letting go of their anger and outrage by using Vick as a platform to minimize/prevent future such behavior. http://www.humanesociety.org/issues/dogfighting/qa/vick_faq.htm.
*To YOURSELVES & your community – Vick's a single example of what happens EVERY DAY. Go do something about it by donating money, time, services to your local shelter. Maybe foster or adopt a pit bull yourself and encourage others to adopt through shelters, for that matter.
How much did HSUS pay you to post that drivel? Your defense of the group has been stated before, by both paid staff and unemployed shills with nothing else to do during the day. I know HSUS is desperate to counter the outpouring of comments regarding their pit bull killing scandals, credit theft, Vick dog fundraising fraud, Fay/Faye fundraising scam, and so much more. Unfortunately for HSUS, the MANY knowledgeable animal loving HSUS critics on this site are winning the debate.
There is nothing humble or gracious about the HSUS. They never had anger to channel into helping combat dogfighting. It was always just a way to get money and publicity and a vehicle to pass legislation that hasn't made a dent in the problem. How else could they spin their mutually opportunistic work with Vick? And their website is the last place anyone should go to learn about their "work."
The cat has been out of the bag about the HSUS for several years now, and the damage control babble isn't working. I think you know that.
I read Lost Dogs and was devastated by the words on the pages, everyone needs to read it and stop making this man a millionaire and a comeback hero- what example does this set for kids? It is sickening what these dogs went through. I can not beleive Vick had the nerve to say his kids want a dog and he was considering it, and if he did get a dog it wouldnt be a pit bull. So its okay for him to abuse the pits he owned previously to the point of a cruel death, but the pits arent good enough to be a dog for his kids. I feel he has lost all rights to own any dog and if he wants one let him go dig up one from the many graves on his owned property and see if he has the power to bring it back to life and give it the chance it never had. I just hope he does not repent of his wrong doing and goes to hell in his next life.

Anyone who finds Michael Vick's over-the-top self-promotion tour repellant can thank the Charity Watch D rated Humane Society of the United States for making it possible. The H$U$ was the only animal group to agree to Vick's PR team's demands. The ASPCA, Best Friends and even wacky PETA refused to actively support his return to the NFL. The USDA reports revealing the extent of his violent involvement was the deal breaker. Of course, the camera-loving HSUS CEO Wayne Pacelle jumped at the chance to reform Vick's image, because it would benefit HSUS and increase his own celebrity. Vick gets his career back, HSUS gets 24/7 fundraising opportunities and years of media attention that that continues with this book. Countless animal advocates all too familiar with HSUS tactics know it's not about the dogs. The $200 million HSUS even accepted $50,000 from the Eagles to start an anti-dogfighting project in Philadelphia. Just last week, a local newspaper article revealed that the program was a failure. So was there spinoff in Atlanta, which imploded for a variety of reasons, racism included.
HSUS has lied about shutting down "100 major organized dogfighting rings" and "caring for thousands of maimed" canine victims. The opposite is true. Wayne Pacelle and his dogfighting expert, J.P. Goodwin (a high school dropout with a long arrest record and conviction for "economic sabotage" of farms and fur retailers) actively lobbied to have the Vick dogs killed, even while raising millions "for their care." HSUS only changed the sales pitch after they had e-mailed over a million people and only when the Virginia State Attorney ordered them to end the scam.
Unlike Wayne Pacelle, numbers don't lie. Dogfighting arrests, convictions and sentences are actually DOWN since the Vick case, and the successful raids and investigations are nearly always the work of local humane groups and law enforcement. (Legislation hasn't helped.) HSUS runs no pet shelters and gives less than 1% of its income to them. Still, they have the chutzpah to steal credit from the charities that do combat dogfighting, raising money off their work. Classy.

Thanks for bringing this up Maggie. If someone is found killing animals that is a sign that they are sociopaths. It would seem that he would need to be in therapy for that disorder. Vick should really be supervised when with others.
Pat, as someone who works at HSUS, and has also fostered numerous pitties, I would like to clarify on what you commented. Regarding Philly, we did not end our work their – we changed the name, to broaden the reach of the program. As for the Vick dogs, we have since changed our policy, and I encourage you to check out our Dogfighting Rescue Coalition, which focuses entirely on helping the pit bull type dogs rescued from fighting situations. It is our policy, and has been since 2009, that all dogs rescued from dogfighting be individually evaluated. With fundraising, as I'm sure you're aware, Vick was ordered to pay 1 million toward the care of the dogs. Because of that, we removed our fundraising request. We did provide funds to our friends at the Surry County Animal Shelter to care for the dogs they took in (not all the dogs taken from the property were pit bull dogs, and they took in quite a few mixed breeds from the case.). We then worked together with the VA Beach SPCA, so that those dogs could go on to be adopted out.
Regardless of how you feel about us, or Vick, the fact is that Vick tells of going to his first dogfight when he was eight years old. Let’s make sure that out of the entire Vick story, we do what is humanly possible to keep the next generation of children from ending up as he did – going down the dead-end path of animal fighting. Congress is now considering legislation to make it a crime to attend or take a child to an organized animal fight. This is a step forward for which there should be no sane opposition – an advance for children, for animals, and for law-and-order. I would encourage you to channel your anger into making sure other 8 year olds don't go to dogfights – and urge your member of Congress to crack down on spectators at animal fights:https://secure.humanesociety.org/site/Advocacy?cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=5663 We can't change what Vick did in the past, but we should do everything to prevent others from doing the same.

Many of us have endured a lot as children, but we learn that some things are just wrong. Clearly, Michael Vick knew
what he was doing was horrible, or he would not have gone to such lengths to hide the horrific things they did to these

Sorry Sarah...your defense of HSUS is understandable but misguided. Wayne Parcells accepting money from a criminal like Michael Vick, then letting him act as an agent for HSUS was, purely and simply, one of the most ignorant moves he could ever have made. I'm a little curious...how much has your donations declined since this happened? The way I feel about it is this...Michael Vick has a LOT more money than I do, so stop sending me requests for donations, get my share of your donation from him. He can afford it. After all, HE was chosen to represent HSUS not me. Since you all believe his "talks" to kids about "dogfighting" has been so successful, how about producing some of the results, you know, like how dogfighting has decreased in areas where Michael has spread the word, how many more arrests have been made, etc.
Just so you'll know, I volunteer for a wildlife organization where the work everyone does is strictly volunteer...nobody gets paid. The SPCA's across the country has volunteers as well but they also have paid staff. Wayne Parcells just gets paid more than anybody else so, was Michael Vick's "gift" to HSUS a donation or a bribe? How will that be showing up on the tax returns? Just asking.

Also, google HSUS charity –you'll find that only 1% of the money they collect through donations actually go to help animals, the rest is spent on 'administration'. Can you believe that? Want to donate to help animals? Find a local animal 501 rescue and donate monthly to them. Those rescues are doing far more to help animals than HSUS , far more....

Jumper cables were clipped onto the ears of under-performing dogs, then, just like with a car, the cables were connected to the terminals of car batteries before lifting and tossing the shamed dogs into the water. Most of Vick’s dogs were small – 40lbs or so – so tossing them in would’ve been fast and easy work for thick athlete arms. We don’t know how many suffered this premeditated murder, but the damage to the pool walls tells a story. It seems that while they were scrambling to escape, they scratched and clawed at the pool liner and bit at the dented aluminum sides like a hungry dog on a tin can. Ann, you would have a point if Michael Vick had ended his involvement in dogfighting (if he has indeed ended it) when he realized how deeply depraved it is to torture and kill dogs. He didn't. Vick's Bad Newz Kennels closed shop because he got caught. And even when he got caught, he lied about his involvement.
In his new book, he admits as much: "I knew I was going to try to lie my way through the whole dogfighting case and see if money, good lawyers, and manipulating the system could get me out of the position I was in - which was a terrible position."

IMHO, some persons who HUNT may be far more HUMANE than most if not all slaughterhouses? I admire Vegans. I continue to eat meat. I should become Vegan. Until I do become Vegan, I eat meat that I buy at a grocery store. IMHO, skilled Hunters who hunt humanely/skillfully (clean shots) & soley for FOOD to eat (vs. 'sport') – are better than people (like ME!) who puchase meat from a grocery store, which allows avoidance/awareness of pain/fear felt by cows, pigs, chickens, etc, killed at slaughterhouses....? Yes, all of us have done "wrong" at some time in our lives. All of us have needed to make amends for something at one point or another. BUT....there different degrees of "wrong". It is tough to read, leroyfrench, but it tells the horrible story of how the dogs were brutalized. When the rescuers tried to temperament test the dogs, they were so fearful of humans that the dogs flattened on the ground and couldn't even be tested. Although the book is very hard to read, it reveals the true cruelty and lack of empathy of Vick and the "people" surrounding him.
As hard as it is to read Leroy, you are telling the disgusting truth and horror of dogfighting and animal abuse...It boggles my mind as to how any decent person could cause such harm to a puppy...and to those who may say "that is not a 'puppy', it's a 'full grown dog'"...well, puppies are born innocent!!! Has anyone see the interview where sick vick is asked if he could change anything in his life, what would he change? He said nothing. When he thought the interview was over, and thought the camera was no longer recording, he said he would change the amount of time of his sentence if he could, and then laughed....That says a great deal about how much remorse this thing really has for the repulsive things he did for his fun.

Mr.Vick displays no remorse for what he did to those dogs. I have not read his book, and do not plan to. He seems to be only concerned with explaining his actions, by using excuses. In my opinion, he is still an abusive human being. The only one that can change him is God. But he needs to fully admit what he has done, and ask for forgiveness. He is using public relations for damage control.
I had to turn the Michael Vick interview off. It was disgusting. Vick obviously has no connection with the cruelty he imposed on dogs. He's out to promote his book, period. How dare he say that the people who are against him may not have lived perfect lives themselves. How can he compare acts of cruelty in which he participated in the fighting and killing of dogs for profit to personal mistakes that we all make? What is even more disgusting is Morgan's treating him with kid gloves. He treated John Edward's girlfriend worse. Why didn't you ask him Piers, why he continued to be involved in dog fighting as an adult even though he knew the consequences? The only reason Vick isn't involved in dog fighting today is because he got caught.

Not even a thought given to the torture, electrocution, and killing of innocent animals. It was all about him. That might have been a good time for you to point out that he never did and still doesn't show any remorse. Also, when he said that he was a dog lover, yet intrigued and excited about dog fighting, you should have pressed harder. NO DOG LOVER would EVER engage in dog fighting! I also have to disagree when he said he was brought up with morals. What a joke. Fighting, abusing, and killing dogs in NOT moral. You can't be a person with morals and do such horrific things. Why didn't you challenge him there either? It was hard for me to watch the interview. I was squirming more than Michael Vick, because the topic alone upsets me so much. Hey everyone, last week Piers had that wack job Blake who murdered his wife on the show, a few days later he had the attorney for the wifes family on the air. How 'bout we demand they put Jim Gorant, author of The Lost Dogs, and Nathan Winograd author of The Inditement of Wayne Pacell on.
Like Vick or hate him, justice was served as he did his time and has been a model citizen since being released. What he did to animals was wrong, he paid for it, and has shown remorse–it's water under the bridge. If only as much vile was shown and perhaps put into action against the Wall Streeters who took this nation to the brink of ruin, then just maybe a few of them would have done at least as much time as Vick did.
Tell me how, when, where he has shown remorse? The only remorse I've seen is when he says his "mistake" messed up his life. I want to see him open his mouth and hear the words come out, "I tortured, electrocuted and murdered innocent dogs. It was reprehensible. I can't look at myself in the mirror. I'm ashamed of myself." That will be the seeds of remorse. Staying out of legal trouble is his way of saving his ass; it has nothing to do with him being a better human being. He's a disgusting human being, and even if you believe he's "done his time," there's no way you should support him writing a book and trying to profit from his crimes.

If CNN and Piers Morgan wanted to demonstrate Vick's remorse about his actions, they failed miserably. The tough questions were never asked of Vick (the passage above should have been read and asked him to reply!) For anyone watching the interview, he was then and continues to be "all about him." The lame excuse for growing up in a violent neighborhood should have been explored further. Morgan should have been prepared to follow up on his excuse, as it has been consistent over the years and has come from his handlers. Morgan should have asked “What about Johns Hopkins Hospital’s world renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson, who grew up in a poor violent neighborhood of Baltimore City; his choice was to save lives instead of taking them! There are many more notable figures that experienced the same poverty and crime growing up and did not engage in torturing and killing living creatures….so what is the difference? To me, the difference is unmistakable; they are not sociopaths.

Why do we continually give this person a platform from which to sound off from? He has repeatedly stated how he is right and everyone else has gotten it wrong. Aside from the dog fighting and inhumanity that he, himself, along with his family and friends imparted on these poor animals – I think it is very important to question why we care about this person, his opinions or his "ability" to throw, catch and run. He is nothing more than a entertainer, that is it. Further, there are millions more – a few hundred of which with much less questionable morals – from which you could garner some form of entertainment from.
But lets switch gears for a second.. if you dont care about dogs – which in my opinion automatically disqualifies you from the worthwhile portion of humanity – and focus on the implications of mr. vick's actions for humanity. this is a being that has been repeatedly beaten in the head via sports-induced collisions. this type of repeated injury causes small abbrassions and bruises to the brain. being that most of these collisions are head to head, the part ofthe brain injured includes the medial-frontal cortex and the posterior areas of the brain.... the first of which is dedicated to repressing aggression and providing inhibitory thought processes and critical thinking. Now, if that part of the brain is repeatedly injured what do you think happens here... it is an increase in aggression and decrease in the ability to inhibit not so smart decisions. These things include dog fighting, animal abuse and drug use. Hmm, all of which are precursors to human-directed violence and most often murder. So... we take a man that is inherently violent and aggressive, as evidenced by his choice to engage in and performance level in an aggression-based sport like football, then we repeatedly injur the only part of his brain responsible for making smart and anti-aggressive decisions, while throwing endless amounts of money, praise and attention toward him, and we see that he is becoming increasingly stupid, aggressive and inhumane (read The Lost Dogs for an account of what horrible acts vick actually committed – which include genital electrocution, strangling, bashing of skulls, drowning, etc) and what do we do.... oh, we let him back into the NFL to continue this great path of neural-degradation and immorality. So for those of you supporting this man, dont be surprised when he is arrested for shooting a gun in a packed night club, or raping a woman, or better yet... when he has a sudden outburst of violence on the field because he disagrees with a call.

There's a theme running through these posts...those of you who want to support Vick have no compassion for animals. Because they aren't human, you don't care how much they suffer at a human's hands.
