Michael Vick says he might get a new dog: "Certainly wouldn't be a pit bull"
Tonight, Michael Vick joins Piers Morgan for a primetime exclusive interview where the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback speaks candidly about his fall from grace in 2007 when he was implicated and convicted of participating in the operation an illegal dog fighting ring.
In his new book "Michael Vick: Finally Free, An Autobiography," Vick expresses his love of dogs in spite of his fascination with dog fighting and the competition associated with it. Vick was banned from owning a dog for three years but this month the ban expires.
During the interview, Morgan asks Vick if he will get a new dog and Vick replies that he would for his children. "I can’t take that dream away from them," Vick explains. "That’s selfish on my behalf. You know, so, gotta find a way to make it right and, you know, I put everything in God’s hands to make it right."
When Morgan asks Vick what kind of dog he would adopt, Vick replies "I would let them [his children] pick it out. Certainly wouldn’t be a pit bull."

pit bull puppies are born the same way as all other puppies, sweet, innocent, harmless and helpless, only humans can turn them (through abuse) to fighters. Michael Vicks never apologised for his involvement in dog fighting. I think his kids were born with his violent traits and should never have a dog. There is no way his family was not aware of the horrible abuse the dogs endured. The dogs that lost fights were shot, hung or drowned. This individual cannot be rehabilited, he will abuse again – anything for a dollar. When is a huge amount of money not enough and you have to abuse innocent animals to make more. Look to Cesar Milan for his beautiful pitt bulls who help him in his quest to help dogs. The Vick family makes me sick and should never own another animal, haven't they had enough to satisy their violent need? I would die for my pets, they kill them.

Most people have done bad things once or twice during their lives but not many people have tortured and killed innocent animals for fun?? He's a sociopath and does NOT have a conscience. Why would you defend someone like that????
Michael Vick's "second chance" is walking free and playing in the NFL. He's been granted a far more permissive do-over than the vast majority of convicted criminals in his situation would have gotten. Not having a dog seems a rather small price to pay, don't you think?
So, if these were children that he killed and fought would we allow him to have or adopted more. Everyone seems to forget these are lives that he took away. It is not like he just embezzled money or something like that. Amazing how it comes to animals and no one cares. I think he should never be allowed to own another animal. He is selfish and all about himself. What he did is murder and yet he is allowed to work and be free!!

*Anyone who knows the Bible would know exactly what God thinks of mike vick..and his lies and deceptions. in his book...he actually wrote that he : "loves Dogs:. Who does he think he is kidding? Anyone that believes in this man, and follows any of his NFL games is either ignorant, or you don't see the clear picture. The man should be dropped from any and all NFL, and he should not be able to have any animals...and I am seriously frightened for his children. Mr. Vick served his year and a half in prison, but tortured and killed dogs for over five years. He blames everything on his childhood and not knowing right from wrong. What percentage of his time and his 100 millions is he giving back to society or to help stop animal cruelty? Less than 1% at most maybe and that is what was court ordered. How much of the proceeds of his new book are going to help these causes that he now, all of a sudden, believes in after a few years? Shouldn't 100% of the book profits go towards a charitable organization? I hear his lips moving, but actions speak louder than words Mike.

I am so disappointed in Piers Morgan for having that monster on his show but even more disgusted regarding the tone of the interview. I admit I did watch it but I am angry with myself for wasting an hour of my time. Piers had his chance to make thing right for all the torture Vick put those beautiful animals through but all he did was put Vick in the limelight again and discuss all his attributes. Vick did not even apologize and yet he had the nerve to criticize the people who fought for the rights of these animals saying that the must have sinister things in their past. Many people did not have the perfect childhood but they do not torture animals because of their past. Instead of buying Vick's book everyone should read THE LOST DOGS by Jim Gorant and only then can you appreciate what hell Vick put the dogs through because of his childhood.

I just lost the love of my life, Odie who was a Poodle, due to complications from diabetes. I cry everyday, still, for that dog. He was the best thing in my life. Anyway, For Odie, who came to me from an abusive home. He was rehabilitated and that can be done, the why not the dogs that survived Michael Vick?? For that matter, why not Vick himself?? I find it interesting that Mr. Vick states that "if anyone had told him he would go to jail for dog fighting, then maybe he would have steered a different way." How about the compassion he apparently lacks towards another breathing creature, and one that wants nothing more than to make you, stupid human that you are, happy. So his regrets are because he went to jail and not because he was cruel to these dogs. He should still be in jail for his crimes and see if longer time can make him find his compassion. I totally agree with you. Even though we live near Philadelphia, I changed from an Eagles fan to an Eagles hater the night that it was announced that they signed Vick. My famiily also no longer purchase Eagles gear. However, I still watch every Eagles game on TV - hoping that Vick will suffer a broken neck - or worse.

Probably because fox hunting or shooting game from a helicopter, as disgusting as those events are, are not illegal. I think it was honorable for Michael Vick to do the interview, and for Piers Morgan to invite him on the show. I sit only a few miles away from some former Vick canines that were rescued and are unable to be adopted out. I watched this show for the last time tonight. I will never watch Piers Morgan again. If you really want to give back... put down the football, put your money and time towards the organizations that investigate and shut down existing dog fighting rings, and work to rehabilitate dogs that have been deeply scarred for life. Get involved and active personally. Take yourself out of the spotlight, be the "humble" person you claimed to be in the interview. You are not an example or a person to be looked up to by children and teenagers.

listening to Vick interview and don't believe there is not much change in him. What you do in life shows the core of your character. Says no one knew, held in out of the way places,],but that didn't clue him in.. I think that everyone deserves a chance at redemption. I don't know of anyone who is without mistakes and errors in judgement. If Mr. Vick wants redemption it is between him and his Lord. We shouldn't be judging him, we should be ensuring that these types of inhumane crimes are stopped through education and effective legislation/laws. I have such mixed feelings in regard to your interview with Michael Vick. On one hand I want to think and feel that people DO deserve a second chance. I also believe that one can reconcile themselves from activities in their lives that are not positive functions in everyday life.
From listening to the interview and hearing him respond to your questions, I feel he needs to be in counseling to help him understand the words "I did wrong, I was wrong, I failed" I never heard him speak any word like this in his interview. I did see a political ad for President Obama (the one with Mitt Romney singing "America the Beautiful." This political ad offended me as I think Mr. Romney (even though his singing was not the best I've heard,) is derogatory and should be taken off the air immediately! No where in Vick's interview did I hear him say he now understands and regrets how his acts hurt, maimed, or caused the deaths of the animals he paid money or provided other support to keep that animal fight business going. Not one word in this interview about those poor dogs who are maimed for life...those dogs could have been wonderful family members and pets. I'm very proud of Michael Vick for bouncing back and this story of redemption. He did it for himself, his kids and his family. He stands in the face of adversity everyday knowing that ignorant people hate him. He's brave enough to sit on National television and speak his mind and tell you the mental state that he was in at the time of his crime. Since he's come clean, he has never once denied his involvement. And, he's done so much good, traveling the country, speaking on the sin and horrible nature of dogfighting, donating his time and money to the humane society. He is trying to give back and turnaround a wrong and many of your refuse to see that. You also don't understand that Michael Vick did not invent dogfighting, he participated in it. Robert Blake was never convicted of the murder of his wife. We don't know if he did it or not. The woman who was killed had many enemies because she allegedly bilked many many people out of money. Let me first tell you that I worked in animal shelters for 20 years-because I was passionate about the work, not because I needed to log some hours to repair my public image-so your final assertion is not accurate. While I do think some of the Vick-hate goes too far (and, as I said upthread, I'm baffled by people who abhor Michael Vick but continue to buy meat from slaughterhouses), I can't agree that it's inappropriate to "judge" someone who did what he did and has yet to demonstrate any real understanding of why and how it was deeply wrong. If he were a convicted serial child abuser musing publicly about how he'd like to adopt a child, I suspect you'd be joining the outcry rather than scolding it.
Why in Heaven's name would you even want to put Michael Vick on the air? So we can see what a "great" person he has turned out to be? I personally do not ever aGAIN want to see his face or hear his voice. So very many defenseless pups suffered so badly and that I cannot forget. If CNN and Piers Morgan wanted to demonstrate Vick's remorse about his actions, they failed miserably. The tough questions were never asked of Vick (the passage above should have been read and asked him to reply!) For anyone watching the interview, he was then and continues to be "all about him." The lame excuse for growing up in a violent neighborhood should have been explored further. Morgan should have been prepared to follow up on his excuse, as it has been consistent over the years and has come from his handlers. Morgan should have asked “What about Johns Hopkins Hospital’s world renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson, who grew up in a poor violent neighborhood of Baltimore City; his choice was to save lives instead of taking them! There are many more notable figures that experienced the same poverty and crime growing up and did not engage in torturing and killing living creatures….so what is the difference? To me, the difference is unmistakable; they are not sociopaths.
Whether it matters to CNN or Piers Morgan, I will never watch his show again. As an interviewer, he scored zero. He must have chosen to be ill prepared because he knew how Vick would respond and at those responses, a pugnacious approach would have been appropriate. Farewell CNN & Piers Morgan!
There is no excuse for torturing and killing animals who do not even stand a chance to protect themselves, especially for some twisted fun and profit. Shame on CNN for airing and creating publicity for someone who lost his human side and was committing crimes like this. Animals are living beings too, what made him think he HAD THE RIGHT to make them suffer?! Knowing wrong from right does not excuse killings and torture, that's for sure – a normal human would FEEL the difference.
During this interview last night, I was struck by how Vick kept saying he wishes someone had told him he could go to jail for dog fighting, and that would have stopped him. He didn't say he wished he hadn't hurt innocent animals. Then when he talked about his mother crying and son being separated from him, he said it was hard on the family to have their lives disrupted, not that they were shocked and ashamed at his cruelty. A "comeback" is someone who has an injury or a tragedy to overcome. Someone who willingly and purposefully tortured and killed dogs not only for entertainment but also for profit, is not someone to root for nor someone who should be profiting from a book about it.
Vick is misunderstood for reasons he doesn't understand. REALLY? It's not because you played opposite their favorite football team and won. It's not because you WERE one of NFL's most exciting players. It's because you are a heartless monster who fought, torched, drowned, hung and electrocuted defenseless dogs for money and your own pleasure. Had you not been caught you would still be doing the same today. You are sad your children haven't been able to have a dog – did you MAN UP and tell them why? Or, did you pass the blame to someone else? You can't un-ring a bell but you can spend every day of the rest of your life making up for your unspeakable acts. If you are truly sorry for your actions and you want to be "finally free" then be the advocate to stop all the other "Michael Vick's" out there that walk down the path. Donate the profit from your book, clothing line etc and support the rescue groups that spend (spent) countless hours and money cleaning up your mess. It's unbelievable that CNN, Pierce Morgan or anyone would give a heartless monster one second of airtime, let alone advertise Vick's book. I will not spend one cent enriching sponsors or any company that stoop so low.

Hello – It's interesting to see all the back and forth discussions and how God, religion, diversity, the history of blacks and whites, chinese eating dogs – got into all of this is amazing – I guess that's why nothing gets done – a shame.
Bottom line – Vic tortured dogs, looked into their eyes, saw their pain, heard them cry – and he didn't care. I don't care if he is an amazing athlete, and I don't care what colour his skin is – if he was white, black or red – he does not DESERVE a dog in his life. Why this is even being debated is beyond me. Honestly, he should have his pay check gleaned every week and that money should go directly to Animal Rescue to help rehab dogs and stop dog fighting – let's put his millions to proper use – let him play football, take his money and actually DO something – that would show me that he is ACTUALLY REMORSEFULL. Vic – here is my challenge – put your money and your mouth to good use – Do something and change the situation for millions of Abused dogs – and do it for the rest of your life.

There are many people that make many mistakes. I drove drunk many of times until one night I got caught. If I would have never gotten caught I would have continued to do so. I put hundreds of innocent people in harms way every time I drove. I knew it was wrong but didn't stop and really think how bad it was. Buck made a mistake also. His was more severe because he didn't get caught early enough. He is a changed man. He has given more money to charitable foundation than me and you will make across our lifetimes. I did not hear the words I'm sorry come out of his mouth. Do you really think that you or me really deserves an apology. No. He didn't kill your family. People need to learn that people can change.
I watched the interview on CNN, half knowing it would be pity party for the "victim" michael vick, and it was. Me, myself and I. Not a word about the poor dogs he so brutally tortured and killed with glee. Piers Morgan did everything but kiss his behind. Disgusting and sickening. I read Jim Gorant's ( he is a sports writer, by the way) "Lost Dogs". It was the most difficult and gut-wrenching thing I have ever read. Anyone who supports this monster vick is just as bad as he is.

Where did this money go? For example: Dog fighting rehab? Vet bills to heal the dogs that were used by him to fight other dogs? Dog sanctuaries to house ex-fighting dogs? A volunteer training program for ex-dog fighting gang members? The possibilities are endless for him to provide funds? Can someone enlighten me? Also it KILLS me as a pitbull owner. People hate what Vick did with these dog at the same time every time we take our dog to the dog park, you can see all the other owners staring, grabbing there dogs and clinching their butt cheeks. Seriously, why would I bring my dog to a leash free dog park, just to allow him to attack everyone?! these are the same type of people crucifying Vick.
I LOVE my dog, he is a extension of our family BUT if you were to tell me 10 years ago that I would own a PITBULL, spend nearly 2000 for obedience training, buy dog insurance, expensive organic dog food and love him as much as a son...I would say get the F out of here, it's just a dog.

Our rescue has plenty of dogs available for adoption one in particular would be a perfect fit. Renny was used as a bait dog, They pulled her teeth, then poured acid down her face and head when through with her. OUr group rescued her and had her medicaly treated. She still has sight in one eye and is very sweet. Vick is a real hero in the dog fighting community and dogs like Renny are the losers. I agree, with a caveat. If Michael Vick is really all that remorseful, I want to hear about how sorry he is about the pain he inflicted on those animals. I want to see it in his eyes. Then, I would say he MIGHT be able to own a previously tortured dog and nurture it. Only I would want a 24/7 camera on that dog, to protect IT from HIM. Of course, that would be impossible, because, as he said, it would never be a bit bull. Like it is the breed's fault or he wants to distance himself from what he did. MAN UP.
Thankfully for the dogs that were sized most of them were rehabbed and now live with loving families. But you Michael Vick said that you with a friend repeated slammed a dog into the ground to kill it. You tied up female dogs for breeding, you pulled their teeth so they could not fight back, you used bait dogs dogs to timid to fight and so you used them to incite other dogs. You are a sick man and you should never own an animal again in your life. Michael Vick cried on his way to jail not because of what he did to defenceless dogs but that he got caught- what better way to be a role model to his children and his fans then to teach them that there are consequences of your actions whether you are a football player, a CEO or poor man. I think that people like you who rescue and love animals and the other people who have rescued and posted their stories should be on talk shows – we need to hear GOOD stories of what CAN BE DONE rather than hear sad and awfull stuff that bring us down and fill stupid people with ideas. Where is the push-back on this book from the media? From what I have read and am lead to understand, Vick basically uses the book to admit that he lied – and would still be lying about this whole thing had he not been caught. Doesn't really come out and offer any contrition to his actions, those he hurt, etc.
Just another example of someone who is not sorry for what he did (and probably still thinks that there isn't anything wrong with it), but is sorry that he got caught and will say/do anything to try to get his "fame" back. I don't see how this guy is getting the pass that he has been given on this. Yes, he did "his time". However, isn't the point of time to try to rehabilitate the person from what put them there?? Aren't his statements in this book proof that he hasn't changed anything really – just the perception of himself in the media???
Totally agree – Vick – put your money where your pen is – every book you sell – the money goes directly to patch up the dogs that you tore apart current and future – rehab dogs – you don't need to own a dog – just OWN UP – no pain – no gain.

When Vick apologizes for what he did, then he can be forgiven. The only thing he has apologized for is getting caught. Not once has he been concerned for the dogs he harmed. He just makes it all about himself. If he cared he would donate some of his millions to the organizations who are now caring for those poor dogs. As far as him saying he won't get a pitbull, pitbulls are amazing dogs. There are no bad dogs, only people who make them that way.
I don't normally watch piers Morgan's show, but when I saw on the crawl that Vick was going to be on I made sure to record it. Having had a Pitt bull in my family and personally knowing many wonderful, sweet, gentle, and extremely intelligent Pitt bulls, the case of Vick has always interested me. Although I feel what he did to the many animals he tortured is horrible, the awareness of an underground world of dogfighting in this nation which his case brought to the surface was an important thing for people to see. I hope people will begin to see that it is not the bread of dog that determines their aggressiveness, but instead the environment and training they are exposed to. While I believe the punishment for animal crulity should be much more harsh, under the present laws in this country Vick has served his time. Instead of just being made at Vick, piers, or CNN people should work towards changing these laws to better protect innocent animals In the future. Call your congressman, join an animal rights PAC, make your voice heard.
Untill watching this show i believed Vick was remorseful for his actions, but after watching it I strongly doubt he feels any guilt for the many animals he abused. I do understand that an environment in which an individual grows up in can have a major impact on their behavior, however Vick does not seem to understand that it was his behavior that made the Pitt bulls into the fighting beings that he used for entertainment. I am glad he will never get another Pitt bull, but found his comment to show his true ignorance. I believe in second chances and rehabilitation but it seems like Vick has quite a way to go. Maybe he should start by reading Lost Dogs ( a very eye opening book).
One last thing. I do happen to be a vegan, but find it very strange that anyone could compare eating meat to the world of dog fighting. Although I do not choose to eat animals, there is a big difference between this and dog fighting. We should try to stick to the topic at hand and discuss the justification or lack of one regarding dietary issues at another time.

I had a house "in the rubber" with my next door neighbor about 100 meters away. They had a pit bull named Lucy. Every thime I walked by Lucy was quit friendly, jumping on me and very happy.
However, other dogs were a different story. Lucy would eat them!
One day I was working and heard a terrible commotion outside. I ran out to find a terrier puppy in a culvert. I am a well known animal lover and thai's frequently left dogs outside my house. In this case Lucy had her eyes on the baby terrier but all my dogs had her surrounded and distracted. I said I may lose my hand but I can save the puppy so I reached litterly into her jaws and pulled out the puppy, whch I still have.
My experience with pit bulls is theyare often loveable with humans they know, but other dogs and strangers are at high risk. Before Thailand I lived in Hawai'i, where pit bulls arethe macho thing. The cliche is a muscle 4X4 pick-up, gun rack in the back window, a battered wide in the passenger seat and a pit bill.
I really enjoyed Lucy jumping up on me and playing, but I still worry about pit bills with other dogs.
Pit bulls are no different than any other dog when it comes to their response to strangers and other dogs. There is a big difference, however, in the response of a 10lb Yorkie yapping at you, and an 80 lb Pittie. The key lies in how well they are socialized as puppies. The first 16 months of a puppy's life are absolutely key in what kind of dog he will grow up to be. Pups that are removed from their mother and their littermates before the age of 8 or 10 weeks don't learn the interaction skills they need to deal with other dogs. It is absolutely the most important thing in a puppy's upbringing that in his first 16 months of life, that he get to meet as many strangers and new dogs as possible, and be shown the proper way to act.
It is an absolute truism that if you devote the time to your puppy's first year of life, you will reap the benefits for the rest of your time together. This is just as true for Pitties as it is for any other breed. Unfortunately, some dog owners wait until problems crop up before they act, and by then, the task is much more difficult.

I love all animals as you do. I think people know where I live too. 🙂 we just found two little kittens next door, which the house back there should have been condemned years ago. The people that lived there..I think someone still does. Well they have mental disabilities, seriously. They will take kittens from someone in town giving them away (I think because they really like animals) but they don't have $ to feed them, or take them to a vet or even to the shelter.. It's a crying shame that people over in Thailand would pass up a beaten, starving dog on the streets. I did not know if you are God fearing man, a Christian...but God speaks of the animals in His word. He does say, the person that is cruel to his beast is wicked!
People that would pass by an animal in dire need is just as bad as someone turning their backs on a homeless person asking for a $1.00. We, as people of the world hold a responsibility/duty to the less fortunate. I am a Christian, a Patriot and an advocate for anything that breathes and does not have a voice. That includes children, the elderly, the mentally challenged, and animals! I get furious at the fact of the abuse in the world. I have just recently made my peace with God, and now I can take my cares and worries of such things and hand them over to Him. It's much better than carrying them around on my back. I cry and pray a lot. Any animal advocate, that sees the end results of what man or woman can do to the animals has to cry...even if the horse, little kitten, dog, whatever is already dead. You see, I see it from a different perspective, I know they are dead...but it's 'what' happened to them to make them dead. And to actually 'know' that it is still happening around the world!
Lingyai, I appreciate you for saving that puppy. I belong to a group on Facebook, called "[National Pit Bull Awareness Campaign]"...I am a Pit lover, but never owned one of my own. Someone dropped off a female dog,
(she was 2 years old) here in our parking lot one day...we know the whole story behind it, but will spare you the details, they aren't gross, it just time consuming. At any rate, no one else was out in the parking lot in front of our house. I didn't even think she was a pit. I went into the house and grabbed a lead, I noticed she had a collar on her. I went to the parking lot, and she looked confused, the idiot that owned her, tossed a stick for her, and when she went to get it, he left! Anyway, I sat in the parking lot with my back to her...every so often keeping my peripherals on her...she eventually saw me as no threat and came to me, I hooked her up and we slowly went into the house. We already had three dogs, one of witch was an old female Beagle,, that had belonged to my mother before she passed, so we took her in. We found out everything we needed to know about "Chantico", (Shan-tee-ko) we found out that was her name...we kept her for 4 months, and we'd have to watch her because every time Tessa the old beagle would go near her she'd pick Tessa up with her mouth and shake her. Now Tessa was not a small dog, well she was suppose to be small, but she actually looked like a hotdog with toothpick legs...We would get on to Chantico, and love on Tessa. One day my daughter came over with her Black Lab...now that was a dog that loved the immediate family, but was also a liability. My daughter had many close calls with Rylee, her dog! When she came over I had Chantico tied to a big old tree, and before I could get to her she got lose and ran up in a playful manner to Rylee, and Rylee wiped up the floor or in this case the ground with Chantico. It took me awhile after the we all stopped the snarling teeth, to locate Chantico, she was way down next to the river, on the other side of an old growth tree that fell. I called her to me, and she came and I checked her, and she appeared fine. She was not going to attack Rylee I could see it in her face, all she could see was a friend and she wanted to play.
I also had a Husky/shepherd mix, and Chantico never bothered her. Sadie, the Husky/shepherd was not a fighter unless pushed. We had someone from the Human Society come out and take pictures of Chantico. And then we went to this mall that the Humane society held for adoptable pets. Within one hour Chantico caught some guys eye and he was off to bring his elderly friend over to view her. The elderly man put down a $100.00 check, and off they went with Chantico.
I found out who had adopted her, and I'd call from time to time to see how she was doing, the elderly woman said her husband went to take Chantico for a walk, well the man landed on his face. I should have warned them that she pulled me across the driveway one day and I weighed in then ay 175lbs. The ending of the story, this Pit got a home, loved her new owners thay were elderly...and she was doing fine the last I'd heard. I need to call again, because the last time I called the woman was closing down her tree farm due to her going blind. I don't like to think of Pits as chasing down and tearing up puppies and kittens...something snaps I guess, others can live peaceable with other animals. Thank you for rescuing that puppy! As for mike vick, my motto is: Pits Rule, vick drools! ( I did not capitalize his name on purpose, he does not deserve my respect or anything else! I am somewhat amazed at those of you who continue to condemn Mr. Vick for his involvement with torturing dogs. I am an animal lover, however, as i see it, Mr. Vick served time for what he did. It is my humble opinion that many people have killed human beings and walked away with a lesser sentence than was given Mr. Vick for his role in the dog fighting. I am satisfied that once a person serves time for their infraction, they should be permitted and welcomed back into society to (hopefully) fruitfully live out the rest of their life.

He should have been banned from any contact with a living being a planted in the desert up to his neck in sand, covered in honey and let the animals follow their own instinct. Ha You make me laugh Piers Morgan.. did you really ask Vick what type of dog he would adopt? I know of no place (shelter or rescue) that would adopt to Vick. Every agency is intrusted with finding their pets a wonderful home. If Vick wants a dog he will have to buy one and I wonder what kind of breeder would put another dogs life on the line for a quick buck. OH that is right Chris Brown is now breeding dogs.
I can't believe this. Vick murdered dogs in horrible ways. Even though I am not a strong animal lover myself, this still enrages me. Letting him adopt a dog is like letting a person-murderer adopt a child. I believe he has the right to live as a free man, but he should never be allowed to own any type of animal, ever. Maybe he did his time, but that does not mean he should be allowed to own a dog.

First off...he did NOT serve his time for torturing those poor dogs. He went to jail for the act of dog-fighting itself. He never received ANY punnishment for what he actually did to the dogs.
That being said, I'm a firm believer that although some people can be rehabilitated, people like him can not. What he did was not a simple mistake. A mistake is "oops, I spilled the milk.", or "oops, I put a red sock in with my white laundry." " My daughter got a black lab puppy, they, her and her husband either one knew how to raise dogs...my daughter still has Rylee ( the lab), and loves her very much, when it's time for her to be put down, my daughter will be lost for awhile, I know.
But Rylee was a BIG liability, she would lunge at children on bikes or skate boards, she hated the mail person (but what dog doesn't right), One time I had her in my Subaru, she was way in the back. I stopped to get gas, the attendant came around to open up the gas lid and Rylee almost busted out my back window to go after the guy! She has not one ounce of Pit in her. She is 10 years old now, and has learned some manners and is doing better. My daughter will put a muzzle on her when she takes her for walks or to the Vets. I think the muzzle scares people more than the dog. But I warned my daughter that if Rylee hurt anyone, that she, my daughter, would have no say in the matter, if the judge says the dog has got to Euthanized, then that is what will happen! I think I put a bit of a scare in my daughter!
I say if someone gets a new puppy, and they haven't really had to be responsible for animals in the past...that they should get resources, videos, books, a dog training class.
