I know there are strong feelings about having the right to purchase and own guns. I still don't understand why the average citizen would EVER need any kind of assault or rapid-fire weapon. Let's start by banning those devices and work towards a sane compromise on others.

I could not figure out how to reply on my own w/o a reply.. One thing I HATE is when the powers that be get one the tv and spend so much time thanking each other for one thing or another for ego purposes.. so much BS... stop doing that.. people want to know the news not the bs of who did what... so makes me mad.. although this guy in the uni seems to be doing the right thing.. Loveyou Piers

Lots bothers me about the whole issue but most of all was when Pearce Morgan asked the Question to the young couple he interviewed. (why they had thier young children at the movie so late). Maybe he should be asking his Holleywood freinds why the Killer wanted to be like the Joker?

The problem is that there are to many guns on the streets if we take them from the responsible gun owners then the criminals will have more fire power than the responsible gun owners

When our forefathers wrote of our right to bear arms they most certainly saw the need for the future generations to have the ability to protect themselves. They themselves daily -had to protect their families during the time period. They also experienced random, insane or mentally depraved persons who would at random kill, maim, steal, etc... YET... they still had the wisdom to ensure all Americans right to bear arms, and yes that includes ample ammunition to do so. Prayers for all those affected.

People like you are a joke, and should be made to live in Iran.

Tax isn't even enough. We need MAJOR regulation. And, after reading some of the pro-gun posts here, and knowing gun-owners and having been a gun-owner myself, there is absolutely no logical reason gunowners shouldn't embrace limitations on what types and how many weapons and ammunition can be obtained. Anyone who criticizes discussion on gun regulation in this post is using this horrible event to promote THEIR views. This event brings into stark relevance this discussion, and anyone who has a problem with that – they are the problem. Thanks to Piers for highlighting this.

Obviously you haven't bought ammunition in the past couple of years. They have raised the prices so high it is ridiculous. For and outdoorsman or sport shooter who does not reload his or her own ammunition, it is very expensive... Besides that you are missing the whole point and aren't making very educated comments!! Do you really believe taxing ammunition or even firearms will stop people from getting what they want, especially when they have premeditated crimes they are wanting to carry out???? You need a reality check!!

I own about 7 for want of a better name, weapons. Three rifles, 2 shotguns and 2 pistols. I think you are an idiot to portray gun control as the answer to violence using weapons. Stop regular citizens from buying weapons and the criminals will still get them on the black market. Now, IF you want to ban private ownership of assault weapons such as a M-14 or an AK-47 or any other sort of automatic shooting weapon like a machine gun, I WILL agree with you. Hunting rifles, shotguns and regular pistols are not necessarily going to kill dozens and injure dozens because they do not carry enough rounds nor are easily reloadable. Go back to England and raise cain about gun control there.

If there was someone in the theater with a gun that might have stopped or slowed down the perpetrator. That would be a reason for having a gun. No one there had a gun and had to wait for the police. Same with the Ft. Hood incident. The 71 year old that had a gun in the internet cafe shows valid reason for guns. If he had not been there or could not carry a gun there is a good chance someone other than the robbers would be shot or killed.

You have a solid point of view. I worked with gangs in Chicago for 4 years and not once did any of them buy guns from gun shops. I witnessed organized crime selling trunkloads of firearms to Latin Kings, Jousters and other gangs and ultimately had to leave Chicago because of this (if someone got arrested they would think I informed which would never have happened. Your credibility is only as good as your confidentiality. I am sickened about this violence but it is the climate of violence on the media including these ultra-liberal networks that want to squash the 2nd amendment. Pers Morgan like most liberals wants a quick fix to a very deep problem. It is all about profit all right, but not just gun interests...those who make films and video games etc. We the Euro Americans introduced firearms to North America and used them to promote slavery and the theft of land from Native Americans and we wonder why we have a climate of violence? If Holmes didn;t have firearms he would have burned the theater or crashed a car with fertilizer explosives into it. Did Al Qaeda use guns? No they used an airplane in NYC.. why is it that West VA and Arkansas and other states that allow the 2nd amendment full expression have much lower violent gun crimes than NYC, Chicago and here in Dc/PG County where it is almost impossible to buy a gun? I have spent much time in West Va,,,never have witnessed road rage or violent crime but when I lived in Chicago there was a shooting a week it seems. Americans not only need guns to protect them from crime but also in case of national defense. You can laugh but I am sure Romans laughed in the 4th and 5th century when someone talked about the invasion and collapse of their society. I do not even own a gun but I watch American, upper middle class kids line up the day before a violent motion picture is released to buy tickets. I watch these same kids go crazy when they can't get the most recent violent video game from their retail dealer. Yea we do need some rational measures but we need to look at the whole picture that causes our youth to be criminals or lunatics. If they couldn't get guns, believe me they would find another way.

I think that it is insane that Piers Morgan and others are debating the second ammendment and gun control right now!! Totally liberal and uneducated views Mr. Morgan. This has nothing to do with the amount of guns he bought or the ammo he bought off the internet. People like him that have such a premeditated plan would have gotten his hands on all necessary items to carry out this attrocity!! I being a Disabled Combat Veteran and a man who grew upp in rural Wisconsin and used guns since I was 4 years old. I OCuld own thousands of guns and tens of thousands of rounds of ammunition and never once think of doing what this young man did. So I should suffer as an avid outdoorsman and hunter who does everything right. GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE!!! When are people such as yourself ever going to realize this. Do not get me wrong I am a Colorado resident and have been since 2004. I have the upmost sympathy for all families involved in this tradgedy as well as the parents of the shooter who carried out this horrific at. This is way beyond a control issue. Mental health and many other things are involved in any situation such as this. 99% percent of people who own guns and obtain them legally, use them appropriately and would never do anything such as this. That is something that will never change unless you get rid of all guns period!!!

I agree with the fact that he would have killed these people whether he had guns or not!! This young man had the knowledge to rig his whole apartment with a significant modern day minefield!! Piers Morgan and all the other LIBERALS need to get a grip on Reality...Maybe he should have been mmore focussed on questioning the MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES of this young man and the warning signs of a Med. School graduate top in his class voluntarily dropping oout of school..etc. This horrific situation is way beyond and has nothing to do with trying to limit or take away oour 2nd ammendmenty rights....in fact if peoplel such as myself with conceled carry permits..by the way obtained legally...were able to carry them into places like theaters instead of being banned from doing so...just think of how many people could have used/protected themselves against this young man!!!! How many live would have been saved??? Ask yourself this...Liberal minded people...and most of all Piers Morgan!!! I would love to come on your show and debate this gun control issue...just as you stated to the one gentleman that you told, when he was ready you would have him back to debate this.

"Assault" weapon is a misnomer. What he used was a rifle, plain and simple. Military assault weapons are select-fire, aka automatic or 3-round burst. Many people have semi-automatic rifles and buy lots of ammunition all the time. Piers Morgan is not affecting anything by throwing out buzz words like "assault weapons" and "6,000 rounds of ammunition". All he is doing is showing his anti-gun bias. I have legally obtained my concealed carry permit, which is quite a process where I live, and had there have been a legally armed citizen in that theater last night, this could have been prevented or mitigated. This is not the platform to jump on for gun control because everything points to gun control only restricting the rights of law abiding citizens. The proliferation of concealed carry has not led to an increase in crime and may have even contributed to a drop in crime, although most agree there could be many contributing factors to that drop and it may only be correlation.

The biggest attack in America's history was on Sept 11th 2001. 2,997 people were murdered. Far as I know not one gun was used. Don't you get it that this man was determined to kill people. If he hadn't had guns he would have still had his killing spree. He probably would have blown the place up and then many who were able to get out, wouldn't have.

Also, I think there should be a law against being excessively arrogant and egotistical and if that were so, this country would have Piers Morgan back in London where he belongs. He wasn't even good at judging talent shows and now he wants to take on our country's laws! He is not an American and he needs to keep his mouth shut about our laws.

It is called sport shooting...the love of using weapons properly. So myself as well as many other Veterans or current Military members who have a passion for guns/weapons and obtain them correctly and use them correctly should be punished and lose our rights to do so, becasue of a Criminal??? People have passions for weapons/guns just as others do for sports or any other hobby!! You will never stop criminals from being criminals until they are locked up and are not able to do so any longer. How was anyone to know that a young man with no criminal background at all would do something like this????? This was a Mentally Ill young man and that is what is the issue, not him having a semi-automatic weapon, shotgun, and a couuple of pistols

First, Piers doesn't even know the definition of an assault weapon. Second, it doesn't matter how many bullets the shooter bought from the internet because he not able to shoot anywhere close to 6,000 rounds. Thrid, the V Tech Shooter killed 17 people with a 22 caliber pistol and a 9mm pistol. Following Piers logic, we should ban all 22 and 9mm pistols too.

Perhaps the theater is partly to blame. Why wasn't the emergency exit door alarmed? In most commercial buildings, an alarm sounds when there is an unauthorized exit or entrance. Sure, this guy may have bought a ticket and entered through normal means, but being able to easily access an emergency exit door?

    July 20, 2012 at 8:36 pm | Report abuse | Reply
    • Greg

Not correct here....a side entrance was nice but he could have walked right through the front door and up the ramp and into any theatre he wanted to and no one could have done a damn thing about it. Just like a plane had a US Marshall with weapon hidden in the seats among the passengers, so should the average movie goer have a CCW permit with weapon in their posession and not afraid to use it. There would be far less crime.

Even if the door was alarmed he would have figured out another way. He had a ticket stub he could have walked out the front door to his car gotten dressed and walked right back through the front door. If we still lived by the laws of the old West everyone one would have been armed and he would only have gotten one or two peoplel instead of 70

If this theater is like others, once you are in and leave your stub may not let you in again. Besides, he went out the emergency exit where his car was to get his weapons and stuff. He blocked the door from closing and got back in through that door.

just what exactly do you thing an alarm would have done? the guy was armed. he was in the theater in seconds. even if it took only 20 seconds for the cops to arrive, that's AT LEAST 20 rounds fired. 21 if theater staff tried to stop him I'm sure.

everyone who thinks it is acceptable to fire 20 rounds into a crowded theater please stand up.

times like this you need a gun NOW and there is just no option to wait. the responsibility for my safety is mine and mine alone. even the supreme court said the cops are not legally obligated to protect you. that job is yours.

When it comes to Guns.. we're not only stupid but insane. Here are the statistics from 2005:

The U.K. with a population of 62 million had only 42 gun death. To compare that to the U.S. you would multiply that by six which would adjust that 42 x 6 to 210, still looks horrible for the U.S. (These numbers include homicides, suicides, and accidental deaths.)

    Gun-related deaths U.K (given a population equal to U.S.) = 210
Gun-related deaths in the United States = 30,364.

A helicopter hovers over him as he shoots into the water and kills more.... That crazed gunman used that to his advantage (that everyone would be un-armed) to kill as many as he could and then raise his hands and surrender afterward....unbelieable. An armed public is a safer public.

The sudents in medical school in Grenada were in danger of being killed by evil people. Amercian soldiers with guns saved them. Guns are not evil,; people are. Evil people will always find a way to kill others. Timothy McVeigh killed without guns. Hitler killed without guns. The radicals on 911 killed without guns.

Gun Control??? Only if you can keep them out of crazy people's hands. Concealed Weapons in patrons hands...had I been there with my Baby Glock, or maybe 10-15 other men/women with a self-defense hand gun, we coulg have returned fire instantly and stopped the armed gunman or caused him to flee. Without weapons, as those in the theatre, we are sitting ducks and innocent (defenseless) victims. 12 dead? A person with a gasoline filled "Super-Soaker" squirt gun and a good lighter could have killed 5 times that many if they wanted to. Weapons aren't the problem, bad and crazy people are the problem. There is NO SUCH THING as 100% security and in most if not all cases including this one, had there been armed citizens as with the armed police, the dead lying on the floor would have included the perpetrator and not nearly as many victims. IMHO. You won't get my weapon, as the criminals and crazies have them, I will continue to carry and be vigilantly on the lookout to protect my family and or myself if the need arises.

When I first saw the young couple with the infant that fled the movie theatre on CNN today, I questioned why they would show the public that an infant was brought to a midnight showing of a violent, loud and very disturbing moviie.
THEN, I turn on Piers Morgan and there they are again! Disturbing indeed that they are on TV when half of America is most likely questioning their parenting skills.

Here is part of the problem....this guy has just found out all of the rights he has a a murdered. He's not even guilty yet, he is innocent until a court proves he is guilty....H should have a very fast trial and an execution by firing squad within the next month or so. This will drag out in the courts and we will found out what a bad child hood he had and he will probably luck out if Colorado doesn't have the death penalty. You go! America. We are so messed up when it comes to showing our youth and individuals that might commit such a crime that you can just receive an all expenses paid trip to comfort in a jail cell with no worries for life. Public hangings in the city square are in order. Might even be a way to raise some money for the city. Especially when guilt is beyone a shadow of doubt.

Piers, you really are not a competent news/facts reporter/journalist. You are a moron. First, the perpetrator did NOT use an assult rifle. By definition, an assult rifle fires in a fully automatic mode. In other words, as long as one holds the trigger back, the rifle will continue to fire until all ammunition is expended. These are not legal to own unless a full background check, finger printing is completed, and a tax is paid to the federal Government. Secondly, Chief Oates clearly stated that there wer 10 victims still in critical condition, not the eleven that you reported. Do Americans a favor and go back to the UK and spread your swill there.

The issue is that a "MadMan" burst into a public place, randomly shot innocent people!!! I think you can buy as much ammo as you want. If you can buy 100 why not 1000 or 2000. I am only surprised that you need an ID and FBI check to buy a gun but no need to flash ID if you buy ammo... It would seem logical to me to require ID. Not that this would stop the tragedy, but this is just a small little step that most legitimate gun owners I am sure would not object...

The compassion is for the children whose parents lack better decision making skills. These are adults with, yes, the right to parent their children they way they wish. Unfortunately, I think the right to do something does not necessarily mean having enough good judgement to make responsible choices. I have a right to state my opinion about the parents' idiocy about their decision to take their children to the first early-morning screening of a giant blockbuster movie that is marketed mainly to people the parents age and not necessarily a family with young children. I state it now because the news channel I had been watching made the editorial decision to give these irresponsible parents airtime and perhaps legitimatizes their boneheaded decision.

If he had gotten the guns and ammo over a 2 year period instead of 3 months he still could have pulled this off. We mourn for Jessica and 11 other victms of the Aurora movie theatre massacre. Jessica's words after escaping from a shooting seven weeks earlier in Toronto were: "I was reminded that we don’t know when or where our time on Earth will end. When or where we will breathe our last breath." Tragically hers was at the Colorado shooting as she watched The Dark Knight Rises. This has made me think, once again, where all this violence, madness and greed we see worldwide at all levels is going to take us all.

I think there's no better time to talk about gun control. Those who disagree are usually predisposed to support the gun lobby. We can protect the 2nd Amendment and still make it illegal for anyone to buy an assault weapon, or too easy to buy 6,000 rounds of ammunition in a 60-day period. We honor the victims and their families by finding the answers now, not later.

let's outlaw liquor while we're at it. After all, it's that 2nd or 3rd or 4th drink, or the fact that they drank jack daniels instead of beer, that causes a driver to become drunk and kill people, right?

Piers Morgan you are a fool pushing gun control tonight. Got news for you, people buy thousands of rounds each weekend and there are no mass shootings. This killer had what kills, intent and if no bullets would have loaded nails into a pipe and used commonly available substances to produce grenade type of devices. A 5 gallon propane tank from your grill would have taken out that whole theather without a single bullet. There is no practical need or use for a drum magazine, personally I would be ok with 15 round mag limits, but again Mr. Morgan, intent kills and if this educated killer did not have enough bullets I would be 99% sure that he would have used a bomb.

30,000 gun related deaths is a bit overdramatized, most statistics are saying about 8,500 gun related deaths, in 2011, and of those, almost 700 were accidental. And if you're thinking the United States is the only country who has "issues, we're 12th on the list of gun related deaths per capita, with Estonia, another first world country above us. Also in the top 20 are France, Switzerland, Northern Ireland, and Finland. Taking away all the guns is not the solution to this problem, regulating and establishing limitations is.

I don't think you understand the real issue at all. I have been legally carrying a concealed weapon for ~13 years now. One of them is a .45 Glock. And when I go out in public, I am not afraid of a damn thing. I have shopped in the grocery store with my CCW. I have been to the mall with my CCW. I have done just about everything with my CCW. My gun has never in 13 years magically left the holster and shot anyone. I live in California too, one of the most un-gun friendly states in the union.

Mexico has some very tough gun restrictions. You basically can't have them. Guns are illegal in Mexico and in 2010 there were more than 13,000 gun deaths. see how well that is working for them. I would sit here and debate your gun laws with you further but I am instead going to the beach, and I'm taking my evil glock with me.

I will just add that if you think guns are not necessary then how about you put a big sign on your front yard that reads "there are no guns in this house. Guns are not permitted. Please do not bring guns on to this property".
Your house will be the first to get robbed. You may not like it but guns are keeping even you safe because criminals do not know who has them and who does not.

The undisputable fact is that guns save more lives every day then the bad guys take through the use of a gun.

Now for gun control and this kid getting some 6000 rounds, so what about a box of ammunition bought at walmart. 2 boxes of rounds would have created a devastating day for people so it's not the matter that it's a shocking thing to think about if a person can actually buy this massive amount of ammunition. It is the deranged person himself. The gun and rounds were a tool for making news and creating a brutal day. But for the movie cinema for instance, there were many people waiting in line on the side walk prior to this big movie release. This kid could have just as easily have used a car at high speed to take out 70 people. So do we ban cars? Come one Pierce. Do you need to get the ratings on your harsh and debatable topics today or could you be a good member of the media and be concerned about the victims and their families.

What has happened is absolutly terrible. But I listened to P. Morgan's show tonight, and my first thought was: He came from the UK where there is no weapons allowed and he was saying we should not have weapons allowed in the US. We have the 2nd amendment if he doesn't like the 2nd amendement GO BACK TO THE UK!!! The states and cities that have more lax gun laws and encougrage gun carry have much lower crime. Just like terrorism a lone wolf is very hard to stop. Even if like in the UK you can't have weapons, guess what the criminals DO have weapons. If you immigrate to the US you have to accept the country and it's beliefs not bring your's and try to make them ours.

Pierce keeps saying that Holmes purchased ammo and guns over internet. I am not sure why he keeps twisting the facts. Even his own network CNN stated:

"Law enforcement sources said the weapons were purchased legally by Holmes at sporting goods stores in the Denver area over the past six months" So the guns were after all not purchased over internet.

Fuirther, CNN says: "A receipt obtained by CNN shows Holmes bought some of the tactical gear, including a vest and magazine pouch, online on July 2." so all his bought over internet, is a vest and pouch.

Pierce, please do not sensationalize this tragedy and stick to facts.

This was such a bad broadcast I have had to change the channel to another news network. Yuck. What a horrible followup to Anderson Cooper's thoughtful interviews. So I had to get online and protest. Next time there is a tragedy extend Anderson Cooper and cancel Piers Morgan Tonite. Kind of like when there is a national tragedy they cancel the game shows and the soap operas – please – cancel Piers. Stick to interviewing celebrities Piers.

Why is the couple being given any MORE media time? Yuck.
Why is there a debate on gun control tonite? This is the time to discuss the victims whom soon will be forgotten with the gunman and gun control arguments will be talked about endlessly in the coming months.

Piers actually added a layer of separation by asking the question, "Some of our viewers want to know" why thy brought their 4yo and 4 month old children to a late-night screening. After the mom answered the question like a doofus (who I think should have somebody help her make a better decision about bringing her children to a midnight screening) and the dad was about to answer (which I wish he had the opportunity because from what I saw from the other responses, he was a poster child for contraception) but Piers cut him off and stated that he really didn't care and wasn't questioning their parenting decision.

Theaters and public places need to have armed security guards and police on patrol. You all need to ask yourselves if we will really be able to eliminate guns. We can't eliminate MARIJUANA! Marijuana is illegal, yet it is still widely used. So, why will it be different with guns?

Lets put it more simply. If you live in the UK you 80% less likely to become a subject of a gun shot than you
are in the USA . Forget the actual size of each of the populations of the USA or the UK ... from the statistics of gun shot incidences and deaths .. you are at least one fifth as likely to be shot in the UK than you are in the USA.

Yet, there are parents out there who are still instilling hate, telling their children to stay away from persons who are not like them; Look at the caliber of person who has committed this crime; look back at others who have committed similar crimes – from Columbine to the University in Virginia, can we see a trend here? Can we see here that any person can get crazy, regardless if you are BLACK OR WHITE OR INDIFFERENT!! This craziness will stop when we stop instilling HATE in our children.

This event SHOULD DEFINITELY prompt new discussion for new regulation on what types of weapons and how much ammunition should be obtainable. I am tired of the NRA and gun-owners immediately criticizing discussion on this issue as political. This is a COMMON SENSE ISSUE. This is NOT a political issue. This is an issue that needs to be talked about and corrected through legislation. And this should have been done years ago!

Daniel, practically everything this man did was illegal because of federal laws that have been passed over the years. There already are bans on fully automatic weapons, the amount of ammunition he had, etc. He didn't care about the law; he was interested in mass destruction. And, if you look over the years, as gun-control laws have gotten more strict, these problems only seem to be intensifying. We have this problem in America because of the fact that the gun-control laws that are on the books aren't being enforced, so making more won't stop the problem. The simple fact of the matter is that gun-control doesn't work, because the psychos/gang members/criminals will always find ways to get them.

Piers, while I appreciate the fact that you are obviously anti-guns, even you have to admit a normal gun owner did not commit this atrocity. If you think just putting restrictions on guns will change things it won't and you have been in this country long enough to know it so don't pretend. Intense mental and background screening might help, but I doubt it. When you have an obviously deranged person on your hands, even the most stringent gun laws wouldn't have changed the results. Also, don't invite someone on your show if your are going to get PO'd and act like a child. Why do these things happen? Who knows. It's been happening since time began as there are written accounts of tragedies like these from all over the world.. If it wasn't guns these deranged people would find another way to make a "statement". This is the 21st century so get your own carry permit and be like the 72 year old man who fought off his attackers in Florida and quit whining.

Admit it.. you made up your mind about gun laws decades ago and have lost the ability to reason about it now.

The problem is, Mike, that those things are already illegal. Check it out, because there are federal laws against almost all of the things this nutjob did. The solution isn't to make more gun-control laws; it would be to enforce the ones we already have, which is not being done.

It's one thing to SAY you'd have shot this guy, or say you'll defend your home or business or whatever, but it's not as easy as one thinks to point a gun at someone and pull the trigger. Piers you really showed your true colors today. Not a real care for the survivors of this tragic event but more a vehicle to get your gun control bs on the air while the fear is still fresh in everyones minds. You went as far to interrupt your guest to tell her you don't as much care to hear why she went to see the movie but more what they went thru when the shooting started. What you should have said was lets just talk about what will bring me some ratings.

Then the debates on gun control started and your real emotion came out. It is evident you only care to use this tragic event to get your gun control bs out fast while this is fresh in everyones minds. Its as simple as this, a gun will sit unused for years, it takes a human with free will to pull the trigger and do the wrong thing with it. If someone kills someone with a Louisville slugger are we gonna impose 'bat control' nation wide. There was also no debate on explosives during your show. This disturbed individual also rigged his place with explosives to injure any first responders that might have shown up. I would think this topic would also be a concern for you, but then again it doesn't reach as wide of an audience as gun control.

People who argue against gun control in the face of Columbine and now the Aurora Theater shooting made up their minds about the issue decades ago.. because it's clear they've lost their ability to reason now. It's true that it's not guns, but people that kill. But people ought not be able to buy assault weapons, 4 guns and 6,000 rounds of ammunition in a 60-day period. Making it illegal for people to do so would not threaten our 2nd Amendment right to bear arms, in self-defense. Rather than prolong an endless debate, I would simply urge those who disagree to give it some more thought, in light of what just happened. We need stronger gun control laws. Please don't tell me the laws are already on the books and just not being enforced. We need both laws and enforcement, and we need them now.

Your response reeks of arrogance, my friend. You talk down to those who disagree.....I'm not even going to waste any more of my time with your responses. You have displayed your close-minded thinking, because it already sounds like you've made up your mind. You're not interested in debate or discussion; you just want a sounding board. There's no point talking to you because you wouldn't see the truth if it bit you.

Piers Morgan is just another stupid person that runs his mouth after a terrible shooting and thinks that ALL the killings will stop with GUN CONTROL ! He says we need laws to keep guns out of the hands of a person like James Holmes,,,, WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THIS MAN??? has ANYTHING been reported that he had ANY mental issues? NO infact he was the extreme opposite,, a BRILLIANT student with NO criminal issues other than a speeding ticket!! So what RED FLAG would have stopped this man from buying guns??? answer NONE !!! The government and police cannot keep the guns out of the gangs, drug dealers, felons AND THEY KNOW WHO THEY ARE !!! Yes there is room for some type of gun law modification,,, but you have to realize that there are people just like James Holmes that will show NO signs until its TOO LATE !! I am a legal gun owner for one reason,,, TO PROTECT MY FAMILY and MY HOME from ANYONE who will cause us harm !! Should citizens have AUTOMATIC WEAPONS,, NO,,, SEMI- AUTOMATIC ,,, YES !!! WHY??? because the bad guys HAVE THE AUTOMATIC WEAPONS !!!! Chicago's gun control is NOT WORKING,,, that is proven by ALL the killings that happen EVERYDAY there !!! Who are doing most of these killings??? GANG MEMBERS !!!! How many Americans own guns legally,,, now what is the percentage of these people that murder using a gun ??? The AFI states that over 2.5 million gun owners protected themselves against a crime or injury BY THE USE OF THEIR FIREARM !!! Experts estimate there are approximately 70 million handguns un the United States,,and of those guns, only 7,500 are used to commit a crime !! With THAT MANY guns you would think the numbers would be MUCH higher but they are not because of people who LEGALLY own guns and only use them for protection!! What if this guy killed those people with a knife ? Machete ?a hatchet?? will you be screaming for some type of control on those WEAPONS ?? Illegal GUNS are just like illegal DRUGS,,, if someone wants it they can get it !!! The Citizens that LEGALLY purchase and carry firearms do so to protect themselves and their families from the people that ILLEGALLY OWN A GUN TO COMMIT CRIMES !!

Not a moment of compassion from Piers Morgan, just the typical media knee-jerk reaction to a complex question. It only demonstrates his lack of understanding. "Horrendous details from this Colorado cinema shooting. America has got to do something about its gun laws. Now is the time.".... that's right Piers, we should turn over the Bill of Rights to a late-night-talk-show hack like you. Perhaps you can tell us what leave in and what to take out.

Piers your one of the most egotistical sobs I have seen on TV. The politics of gun control did not have to take place tonight. Take some notes from your counterpart AC and actually do the story on the people like the victims and their families instead of trying to insert this is my show and I can do what I want. Without viewers you wouldnt have a job and to be honest it is going to be a while before I watch your show again because of your insensitivity tonight. Have one guy who does not want to talk about gun control politics and 2 guys who do it was like 3 vs 1 that was a bunch of crap. Everyone knows how biased you are and your always talking about how UK this UK that like we are a bunch of trash over here in America. Learn where in the hell your at and if you dont like it go back to the UK im sure they would have you with open arms. You have done the same crap with health care and now I am just done with you. Tonight you really crossed the line with your insensitive english ass.

Here's a plan for this gun control let's split the country in half and let the people that want the government telling them how to live there lives on one side and people who want freedom on the other. I like my feedoms and they are already slowly getting taken away one at a time going farther and farther into our lives. Thats as simple as i can put it.
Prayers go out to the victims and their families.

Taking guns away from people is not taking away your freedom you simply don't need them. So I'm guessing if you create a dirty bomb or something it's your right and if your told no you feel it's taking away your rights?

Mr. Piers Morgan, I used to like you but tonight I had to change my opinion. Disappointed that you did not act like an objective reporter, furthermore you did not check your facts – if you did, you would see that gun control actually led to Increased innocent victim deaths. see justfacts, the section about gun control facts.

Instead, you ran with your 'agenda' and talked OVER anyone with a differing opinion, denying them air time and you cut them off. Terrible journalism!

Guns don't kill people, people kill people. Just like cars don't kill people, bad drivers/drunk drivers kill people.
Should we outlaw cars too, since more deaths are caused by car accidents?

I am not a detective, but if the music in the apartment went on at midnight last night, would it be plausible to think it might go on again tonight and activate the incendiary bombs in the apartment? Just thinking. I'm sure the FBI and the Aurora police have thought about this. I would think this loony had some alternate plans in place, and it may be connected to the timed music. I don't know. My late husband was a NYPD detective; but I'm not.. This is pure guesswork.

Sun Tuz, a very renowned Chinese philosopher, once said never show your weaknesses to any enemy. This incident is certainly showing potential international terrorists the many weaknesses in American society. In many Eastern Europeans and Asian countries, he would have been ‘shot’ without a jury and trial with no questions asked. Hollywood can now make another movie and again show internationals terrorists what they can achieve. What a shame to those innocent victims who lost their lives. Saying ‘sorry’ will not bring back any of the valuable lives lost.
What a shame to those in American society who support the bearing of arms. When will the American public wake-up to the political games played by the groups who lobby for the bearing of arms. These individuals have nothing to lose because likely have not lost loved ones to a bullet. Many individuals from other countries are watching the fall of American society with quite a bit of amusement. Wake up you Americans and take control of your lives, societies and government!!!

I lost someone I loved – JFK – to a bullet. Just because I'm not related to him doesn't mean it didn't affect me, that it didn't leave me feeling like I lost something.

When will those (like you, coward that you are going by 'No Name') who criticize the American public – wake up to your own derangement about what rights Americans should and shouldn't have? Who made you God?

When some self serveing T V interviewer has all the answers to America's problems , well thats the day we all should look forward too, One should do his homework and know that there are more than 5,000 gun laws on the books in America. It's the person not the tool !!! You want to stop murders why not stop DRUNK DRIVERS, why not stop etc, etc, etc. Debait on Info not on emontions

Do you have any idea how many thousands of rounds are purchased both online and in person by individuals each week ? Millions. And if you rate that to how many shootings such as this, your chances are along the lines of getting hit by lightning. There is an incident such as this every couple of years and many are shocked by one thing or another. Ammo sales are no problem. There is really no need for a drum type of magazine, but thats it.

We do not need gun control. The only people who will abide by any gun control laws are the law abiding citizens you don't have to worry about anyway. Do you really think any criminals will be like, "Oh... I'm not allowed to carry a gun anymore... guess I can't go shoot these people or rob this store."...? If I'm going to go out and kill someone, I would not care if it is illegal to carry a gun... nope, definitely wouldn't care. "But it will be harder for criminals to get a gun"... no it won't... it will be harder for them to get a gun legally. but illegally will still be easy as ever.
