Coming up this evening at 9 p.m., "Piers Morgan Tonight" welcomes the man who's won more Olympic medals that any other – swimmer Michael Phelps.
A 17-time medal winner, Phelps now stands just one shy of Soviet gymnast Larisa Latynina's record of 18. For the native of Baltimore, however, representing his country is the biggest victory of all:
"Being able to wear the stars and stripes and step up onto the block, you know, when you step off of an airplane or when you hear the national anthem play," he tells Piers Morgan. "It's one of the greatest feelings in the world to just know that there are people at home who are supporting you and watching you."
Swimming now in his third Olympics, and having twice tied the record with eight medals of any type at a single games, the 27-year-old insists London represents his final competitive competition. But through all his success, all across the globe, Phelps still remains loyal to his roots:
"I think, for me, being an American is one of the greatest things in the world...I've been able to grow up with everything. The freedom. In my eyes this is the greatest country in the world," explains the six-time World Swimmer of the Year Award winner. "Throughout my career, I've been able to travel overseas and represent my country the best way that I could."
Watch the clip, and listen to the interview, then tune in tonight at 9 p.m. for a candid conversation with the man viewed as one of the most-dominant Olympic athletes of all time.

Piers, CNN, Please do a story on the censorship by NBC of choreographer, Akram Kahn's "Abide With Me" segment of the Olympic Opening Ceremony. It was replaced by an interview with Michael Phelps by Ryan Seacrest. How does Michael feel about this? NBC needs to apologize and broadcast this segment, which was an essential balance to the rest of the Opening Ceremonies, to the US viewing audience.
This was the worst Olympic coverage that has very taken place. Bob Costa's should be fired on the spot. Costa's took special glee annoying viewers with his pompous and political motivated arrogant views. This is the Olympic for every one to enjoy. This is England's big moment and no one wanted to hear Bob Costas spilling diarrhea constantly from his mouth. Millions of viewers have been out raged by NBC. They should be banned from the Olympic and old Bob Costa should sent old fokes home with his mouth taped.
What a shi-y coverage ever. Shame on NBC. Get out of the business of broadcasting. You guys stink.
Shame on NBC

This has been the worst Olympic coverage by NBC. Why can't CNN take it over?
Olympics coverage boring that's why I am watching you Pierce, now.
I agree Prai, the olympic coverage is boring and the empty seats in the stands make it seem depressing somehow, I much prefer Winter Olympics. Piers, your interview with Michael was okay but I enjoy your show much better when you are discussing political issues.
This excellent website certainly has all the information and facts I needed concerning this subject and didn’t know who to ask.
