Tonight: Newt Gingrich and Spike Lee

Coming up this evening at 9 p.m., "Piers Morgan Tonight" welcomes Newt Gingrich and Spike Lee to the program, as each will appear live, adding their respective insights to the newest political developments and the current state of America.

For the former House Speaker, tonight's appearance marks a return to the program, as the one-time Republican presidential candidate has visited with Piers Morgan numerous times in the past, touching upon everything from Barack Obama being "a left-wing radical," and Mitt Romney's role with Bain Capital.

Spike Lee, meanwhile, will be making his debut showing this evening. However, the "Do the Right Thing" producer and director is no stranger to CNN's many platforms, having appeared over the weekend to offer his critical analysis of the job Obama has done during his first term in Washington, DC.

Tune in this evening at 9 p.m. for a pair of live interviews certain to be lively, candid, and revealing.

Since Romney's ad claims that Obama started a war on religion, i assume that religion is now put on the table and is fair game. So let's have a look at Romney's religion. Specifically, "The Book Of Mormon" which was written in 1830, that's 180 years ago. Now the important part here is that there has been many printings of this book up to 2010 so they had many opportunities to change these verses. You will find in the book under 2 Nephi Chatper 5 on page 66, these verses 20-24. "Wherefore, the word of the Lord was fulfilled which he spake unto me, saying that: Inasmuch as they will not hearken unto thy words they shall be cut off from the presence of the Lord. And behold, they were cut off from his presence. And he had caused the cursing to come upon them, yea, even a sore cursing, because of their iniquity. For behold, they had hardened their hearts against him, that they had become like unto a flint; wherefore, as they were white, and exceedingly fair and delightsome, that they might not be enticing unto my people the Lord God did cause a skin of blackness to come upon them. And thus saith the Lord God: I will cause that they shall be loathsome unto they people, save they shall repent of their iniquities. And cursed shall be the seed of him that mixeth with their seed; for they shall be cursed even with the same cursing. And the Lord spake it, and it was done. And because of their cursing which was upon them they did become an idle people, full of mischief and subtlety, and did seek in the wilderness for beasts of prey." This beggs the question, does Romney believe that God turned white men into black men as a curse/punishment??? And if not, why in 180 years (aproximately 2 human life spans) hasn't anybody come forward from the Mormon Church to try to get these verses removed?

Andy, it is a fact that Joseph Smith began as a con artist, that mormons were first considered terrorists, were ostracized, much like Muslims are today in many parts of the U.S., and that I find it most difficult (out of all of the major religions) to be empathetic with mormon's believing that Joe was speaking with God . . .but I still need to point out that there could be another easy way to translate this verse. It sounds to be like a condemnation of slavery, especially given the time, though where the racism part comes in is that God supposedly says that if white people mix with the black slaves, the offspring will be "cursed." I think the part you're possibly misreading is "the Lord God did cause a skin of blackness to come upon them." Not that white people became black – it's in reference to the sin of slavery.

Tommy, did you not read this part,"Wherefore, as they were white, and exceedingly fair and delightsom, that they might not be enticing unto my people the Lord God did cause a skin of blackness to come upon them". In the last book of the Kings James version, The Book of Revelations, chapter 22, verses 18-19, it reads, " For I testify together with everyone hearing the word's of the prophecy of this book if anyone adds to these things, God will add upon him the plagues having been written in this book, and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from the Book of Life, and of the Holy City, and of the things having been written in this book". Now, if we are to believe God, the Book of Mormon should not even exist. Resptfully, Andy Bedio

    Dear Piers,

I I watch your show on most nights and enjoy your witty and effective interviewing techniques. I especially want to command you on your outspoken (an seemingly unpopular) pleas on the necessity of more gun control in this country. As a fellow European (II'm from Finland), living in the U.S., it appalls me that Americans think more guns is the answer. Keep pushing politicians and especially president Obama to take a stand on this important issue. Another shooting today in TX. How many shootings do we need before anyone takes action? Keep up the good work. Tomi

I don't agree that you should not have had him on, he gets ratings. But... I know you don't like to get into little arguments with guest, but he took over the end of your question to push his message. A ridiculous message which was totally untrue, regarding Reagan and how bad the economy was when he took over. Your question was good, but you should have not let him get out without answering it, and you should have called him on his lie. I don't know how these guys could have been so against Romney when they ran, but now they are talking him up and sticking to the talking points.

YOu have a great show. Keep up the good work.

I'm so fed up with both parties! When a party comes out and says that Congress should pay into their medical benefits like the rest of us, No pension for life for just serving one term, Only allowed to serve 2 terms with a break in between before being re-elected and not to be exempt from insider trading, then I'll then vote for them!

Piers – have you never hear of a followup question? You let people like Gingrich spout their lies, but never challenge them on it. You know the questions you will ask them, so be prepared when they spout the canned BS like Republicans always do – do some research and prep work.

Dear Piers. For crying out loud, would you please do some homework? Gingrich's laughable claim about the Reagan (and Thatcher!) era "recovery" also happened to coincided with a price of oil that dropped to under $15 per barrel under his presidency.

My grandmother could have orchestrated an economic recovery with the price of energy so cheap, and Gingrich is starting to sound an awful lot like Sarah Palin, with her fondness for Reagan's "not easy choices but simple ones" approach - the operative word being "simple", not just in terms of simple minds a play but in terms of ideologies so far out of step with the complexities of the world in the 21st-century as to be almost majestic in its towering ignorance.

Look, my I suggest one of your next guests (soon) be the Canadian economist Jeff Rubin?

Why do you not bring up the fact that so many of Obama's proposals have not been allowed to even be tried? What about the most recent attempt to bring jobs back to America by reducing corporate incentives to move jobs abroad and increasing incentives to bring jobs home? Newt is right. Obama has not done much because our Congress has not allowed him to do much. This is obstructionism and you, the press, need to emphasize this! Barack Obama was elected, fair and square, to be our President and he has not been allowed to be the President by our Congress!

Also, why do you not ask your Republican guests – if reducing taxes on the rich means more jobs, where are the jobs??? The rich currently pay the lowest tax rate they have paid in decades! If they are the job creators, where are the jobs?? Why do you not ask that question?

Why do you not point out that businesses do not hire because they pay lower taxes? They hire because they have more demand for their products or services. There is less demand right now because the middle class is being squeezed! Our unions are being bashed, workers are having to work more and more for less and less. How can we generate demand when our employers pad their pockets and the pockets of their shareholders instead of paying their employees! Corporate profits are up and they are awash with money! What are you doing??!!

Why do you not point out that the banks are making their money on speculation and fees, instead of making money on what they used to be required to do (pre the recision of the Glass-Steagall Act), which was to make loans? Where are the loans? We have no housing market because the banks are not lending! They are speculating in risky markets to make their money and they are putting our deposits at risk. Why do you not ask Newt these questions?

Go ahead, Piers! You can do this! Ask!!!

Cory, what a refreshing comment you wrote! Finally, someone who is intelligent, knows facts and is informed, unlike the majority of Americans today who care more about labels and how they look than what is happening to their country. We have the power as the people to get rid of these Washington thieves who obviously want education to fail in this country so they have a carte-blanche to continue to ignore us. After all, poorly educated masses can be easily led astray.

After watching Newt Gingrich tonight I was upset. Although a democrat I often enjoy listening to him – has a lot of knowledge about Washington and sometimes an interesting perspective. However, tonight he made some comment about did the newscasters get together to say the same thing. It was so disingenuous as he went on to practically quote the party line (have already heard 5x today until turned off) about "class warfare" and the old "saw" about the unelected panel. First it was death panels and the bureaucrats, now the "panel" (death panel, again) and the bureaucrats. This is baloney, it is intended as a way to identify best practices (and Mr. Gingrich knows that) and ironically, Romney prices himself on his metrics and data driven management. I'm disgusted.

Spike Lee : Stoned ...I do not think so, but so what if he was!
Idiot ...NOT LIKELY, intelligent, articulate man of vision! Also, he could buy and sell that CROOK Newt!!! LOL
He barely even spoke about Obama. But, he did tell the truth about the RepubiCONS blocking most everything Obama has tried to do that would help ALL OF US! Like Jobs Act last fall.
Hmmmm ...RepubliCON house wasted time & money voting 30 some-odd times to repeal ACA. Knowing it would either not make it through Senate or be vetoed by the President.
Also, 30 some-odd votes on abortion!!!! Knowing it would either not make it through Senate or be vetoed by the President. But, NOT ONE VOTE ON JOBS!!! ( that REALLY tells me that they NEVER wanted to HELP ANY OF US) I guess that when RepubliCONS met during Obama inauguration (and yes, Newt said he attended) they planned to obstruct EVERYTHING to make Obama a 1 term President!!
They spoke about guns. He has his opinion , just like everyone else. I can tell you that the NRA called me a few months ago, to donate. They started/lied with saying that “Obama and Hillary Clinton want to take OUR guns away”! I came back with “Hillary does NOT make policy” and asked what Obama EVER did about guns???? NO REPLY...stupid telemarketer hired by NRA! A few years ago, assault weapons WERE BANNED, but that law elapsed. WHO in the world needs semi auto that shoot 50-60 rounds a min.? WHO needs a clip with 100 bullets? JUST HAVE COMMON SENSE LAWS!

90% of blacks voted for Obama, because 90% of blacks ALWAYS vote Democratic. Not because they are racist. In fact you actually sound like you're a racist, and I'd be willing to bet money on the fact that hold many racist views about black people.

The issue is not that 90% of blacks voted for Obama because they traditionally vote Democratic anyway. The issue is how many more blacks registered and voted because they wanted to "participate in this historical election where a black person was a Presidential candidate". I can tell you, witnessing my town's lines around the block to vote, that the black turnout was historic. I happened to ask someone if they planned on voting in the mayoral election. They had no clue that there was a mayoral election. The former mayor, black, was not longer on the ballot. Why vote? So, if you are going to use the race card, and start throwing the racism word around, be very careful....that door swings both ways.

The questions pier asked are good, but tougher questions need to be asked. President Obama inherited a an economy that was run down to the bottom by republicans which cannot be revived in 4 years or 8 years, it probably will take a generation or more, especially in light of the world manufacturing dominated by the Chinese. America is in such economic mess mainly due in part by unbridled free enterprise practiced and promoted by the republicans. No country can have better employment rate when lot of their manufacture is shifted to low wage countries like china and corporations like Walmart is allowed to import all those products to the u.s. without any tarif. This again is promted by the republicans.
When Regan was president he did not have such manufacturing challenge from china or any other low wage countries consequently he was better able to manage the slow down in the economy. The world has changed drastically since then and the GOP is still sleeping and recommending the same old policies Bush and cutting taxes for the rich people and expecting different results. These republican policies should be tossed out the window along with do nothing gop

Piers, The in bit of Paul Ryans speech that that Suzanne Malveaux showed just before your show, he talked as if the recent, pretty disasterous, policy in Europe had a lot to do with wellfare when in fact, the European German policies that have failed, failed for Europe and the world, though they seem to have been fine for Germany, have been eating away at wellfare not building it up. Indeed, in England Margaret Thatcher started the sort of poicies that the right in America seem to be putting into place now and reccently, thirty years ago and Thatchers sort of policies, deregulating business and banks for example, is what has really lead to the 2008 crisis not wellfare. Angela Merkel has, like the republicans have in America, it seems to me that the ideas of the right now are ideas that the right infect each other with in countries all around the world, have been cleverly accusing wellfare of being the cause of our financial problems, when the banks, their bonds, derivatives, bubble, not welfare is what has destroyed the economy. rose macaskie madrid.

America has its failings just like any other country, but to stick your nose in the air at us you can take your Canadian pride and stick it where the sun doesn't shine. He is far too focused on his own views and opinions while constantly interrupting his interviewees before they have finished the first sentence of their answers. Point taken about flight attendants wanting to entertain but, honestly, demeaning a pilot because he landed in DC and you wanted to be in NYC. Do you really think pilots choose where to land? I believe the airlines as well as air traffic controllers decide that along with mother nature. The only times I recall a pilot landing where he picked was in a crash landing. Don't think that was how you ended up in DC. My guess is there was inclement weather that diverted you to DC (LGA is known for it's incredibly short runways) and the passengers we just happy to land safely. I am Canadian, however, like a great many Canadians we are concerned as to where the U.S. is headed politically, socially, and economically, i.e. " as the U.S. goes, so go we".

You currently have a President who has done a remarkable job, given he inherited the most difficult situations in decades, primarily as a result of the actions of Republicans. The situation was exacerbated substantially by the American people, who in a "knee jerk" response, voted in a Republican congress during your mid-term elections, which stifled the President and his initiatives.

How can the American people even be considering electing Romney who was the so called, best of the lot, during their nomination process. As we all saw, that was a complete debacle! He and the Republicans represent the status quo of big business and their direct, and usually negative impact on politics and society in general.

I implore the American people to use their common sense and give Obama the opportunity to fulfill his destiny, which you said you would almost four years ago. If given that chance, I believe he can be the best you have ever had!

He shows in his movies every way of life; the ups and downs and as he says, "the beautiful and the ugliness. He was so right when he said the African American people did not elect Barrack Obama but the people as a whole: black, white, brown, yellow, red, gays, straights, etc. I only have to differ on the racism part. I believe there is more racism now but it against Muslims. Why are people so ignorant when they are faced with difference? We are all imigrants whether through ancestry or escaping from terrible conditions. On your conversation with Newt Gingrich I feel you should have answered him with more thorough facts like: Obama has created more jobs in a shorter time, (4.5 million in 3 years) than President Bush created in 8 years (2.5million.) Spike is the current day version of the Emperor's New Clothes. He ran from the race question like Obama does, showing he has no courage to standup and call it like it really is. Racism is worst than ever before and when Piers asked him what he thought Obama needed to address he couldn't answer with a straight face. He knows Obama first needs to stop distancing himself from Blacks that continues to get him no brownie points from racist. Of course all races, voted for him but it is only Blacks that Obama have turned his back on which wll be his downfall if he does make good with us.

Piers you need to have people on your show with real opinions with the courage to speak up and who are not rubbing shoulders celebrities with fake apeasing answers. Also Newt is an idiot which he proves times and time again and anyone supporting him can be sold the Brooklyn Bridge.

@ Alex the same one you did, and from your previous comments you are one of those giving Obama a pass which I don't. Anyone with half common sense knows race was a problem before Obama, but it is even more so since Obama makes it a point to distance himself from ANYTHING specific to Black and goes out his way to disrespect us while boldly supporting all other races, their issues and specific causes. This is all the more reason race is an important issue this country must address. Obama has shown so far he is the President for everyone other than Black and until he or any other future President addresses the racism in American it will never prosper. Get the point now, I'm sure you don't!

Eve, Yes you are indeed named correctly because there is a snake in your garden... And that is Romney and his precious book the book of Mormon. which is the very foundation one which their church is built upon. Now you will find in 1830 that the book was written by their prophet Joesph Smith. Now the important part to remember here is that this book had many printings since 1830. Thats 130 years since they have had many opportunities to change these verses and did not. Their last printing was in 2010. I am now going to quote these verses to you. 2Nephi chapter 5 page 66 verses 21-24 "And he had caused the cursing to come upon them, yea, even a sore cursing, because of their iniquity. For behold, they had hardenedtheir hearts against him, that they had become unto a flint;wherefore,as they were WHITE,and exceedingil fair and DELIGHTSOME that they might not be enticing unto my people the Lord God did cause a SKIN of BLACKNESS to come upon them. And thus saith the Lord God: I will cause that they shall be LOATHSOME unto thy people, save they shall repent of their iniquities. And cursed shall be the SEED of him that MIXETH with their seed; for they shall be cursed even with the same cursing. And the Lord spake it, and it was done. And because of their cursing which was upon them they did become an idle people, full of mischief and subtlety, and did seek in the wilderness for beasts of prey." So let's summerize... It all started back when the "whiteies" decided that they didn't want to do their own work. So they brought some of the black race over in chains to do their work for them. And then along came the Mormans fearful that the black race might get upady and think they were as good as the white race. So they had to find a way to beat them down spiritually. So they come up with this idea to make themselves their very own prophet. To make the claim that God spoke to him and cursed the black race to keep the black people from miwing with the white people. Thus calling God a racist. This book will never change as long as there are Mormons to consider your race to be cursed. Oops i forgot to say that I am white. I am not a bleeding heart liberal but when somebody makes up a lie and calls my God a racist it really ticks me off. So direct your anger where it is deserved.

Just when CNN seemed to be moving to the center, my favorite son of the losers of the revolution takes up a crusade against guns in America. Piers, a subject from the most dangerous member state of the European Union, , in which the Crown tightly controls gun ownership of its law abiding subjects, is the least convincing advocate for gun control possible. Yes, horrific mass shootings by deranged people do happen in this country. Piers again misses the point that gun availability is not the problem – defunding and ignoring mental health care is. Now it is time to go watch my other favorite Brit, Jeremy Clarkson, while I put CNN back in the dust bin with MSNBC.

    Piers and spike,
Thanks for reminding me to renew my NRA membership. As a matter of fact, I kicked my membership up to a lifetime membership after hearing your anti gun comment.

A provision of ObamaCare is set to punish roughly two-thirds of U.S. hospitals evaluated by Medicare starting this fall over high readmission rates, according to an analysis by Kaiser Health News.

Starting in October, Medicare will reduce reimbursements to hospitals with high 30-day readmission rates – which refers to patients who return within a month – by as much as 1 percent. The maximum penalty increases to 2 percent the following year and 3 percent in 2014.

Why isn't MSDNC and CNN not reporting this!

obamacare is throwing the seniors and middle class under the bus!

    obama wants seniors to die!

There is no recovery. Dont let the numbers fool you... they have been cooked for a long time now. Obama has wrecked the economy and added over 5 trillion to the deficit with nothing to show for it. In the first two years he could have passed any bill he wanted but didnt even think about jobs. His "laser like" focus was on the golf course and lavish vacations while Americans lost their jobs. He is the biggest clown to ever sit in the Presidency... and he is done come November. I just hope there is something left to recover.

There are three main myths about the creation of the brownie. The first, that a chef accidentally added melted chocolate to biscuit dough. The second, a cook forgot to add flour to the batter. And thirdly, the most popular belief, that a housewife did not have baking powder and improvised with this new treat. It was said that she was baking for guests and decided to serve these flattened cakes to them. This became our beloved treat of today. Whatever may be the case; all three myths have gained popularity throughout the years due to its mysterious beginnings...
