Clips from Last Night: Newt Gingrich on the New York Times' poll "universe"; Harvey Weinstein on Romney's economic plan, potential GOP movie stars

On Monday evening, just hours prior to the start of the 2012 general election, Newt Gingrich returned for yet another visit to "Piers Morgan Tonight." The former GOP presidential candidate offered up his take on recent polls showing Barack Obama and Mitt Romney in a near dead heat, as the candidates conclude their campaign tours.

Prompted by host Piers Morgan, Gingrich responded to a Twitter post from earlier in the evening, in which "New York Times" statistician Nate Silver declared: "Obama at 91% to win Electoral College based on today's data so far."

"You say this person of the "New York Times" has come to the startling discovery that in the "New York Times" universe, Obama's going to win," said Gingrich. "I point out two of the polls that came out today, Rasmussen has Obama - has Romney up by one. Gallup has Romney up by one."

"The James Carville rule is incumbents get the last poll," continued the former House Speaker, referencing the lead Democratic strategist. "That would mean a 51-48 or 52-48 victory because in both those cases, you had Obama at 48 percent."

Meanwhile, renowned film producer and businessman Harvey Weinstein also joined the program live, voicing his confidence in seeing Obama earn a second term, naming "inconsistencies in Mitt Romney's economic plan" as one of the key reasons.

"He [Romney] keeps on talking about a plan and then you read the plan, and there's nothing there. It's gotten people worried," continued the Academy Award winner.

Weinstein also commented on his general impression of political theater in the year 2012, poking particular fun at some of the GOP "stars," saying he "should make a movie about all these guys."

"They're brilliant actors. I could have [John] McCain star in any movie. I would have Rudy Giuliani play the crazy villain in any movie. And I voted for the guy," joked Weinstein. "Rudy Giuliani, he said that Obama should resign because he had 1.2 percent growth. There were years in New York when Rudy was the mayor, he couldn't balance the budget. We still voted for him. He didn't have to resign."

Watch the clips, and listen to the interviews, as "Piers Morgan Tonight" takes the American public, and viewers worldwide, down to the wire with the 2012 general election.

Why does CNN insist on bringing on Newt Gingrich. In my opinion he is

An arrogant, obnoxious, a lier, no principles, no talent, no brains, just shoots off . Are you interviewing him for a job or something? If you are doing that I will stop watching your channel. I thought you learned your lesson when you fire Glen Beck. Do you guys have any commonsense?

We know you have been bought by the republicans recently. You did well earlier and we liked watching your show. Now, if you do not come to the middle your ratings will go down the drain. Leave your arrogance on the side and congratulate President Obama on his outstanding victory!!!!!

Totally agree with kendra. Between Piers and Erin, CNN's attempt to aid Romney became transparent as
the election drew near. Who gave them their marching orders? We have removed Piers Morgan's show
from our DVR scheduling, and the credibility of the rest of CNN is now damaged, in our opinion.
