As the national news cycle continues to be dominated by the extra-marital affair that lead to David Petraeus' resignation, on Monday evening "Piers Morgan Tonight" invited a wide-ranging collection of political insiders and intelligence experts to add clarity and insight into the scandal.
Joining Piers Morgan for a live, face to face interview, John Miller detailed the chain of events involving the CIA, FBI, two women, and a series of alleged shirtless photos:
"He was never on the case. He doesn't work on the cyber squad. It's not his violation to investigate," says the CBS News Senior Correspondent of the agent whom received the initial complaint from Jill Kelley. "The reason he brought her to those agents was - that's the squad that does this work. It's beyond his expertise. He's in an intelligence group that does other things. So his job was really to make the introduction. But it also appears that he is either seeking or trying to have some kind of odd relationship with this person that he's trying to help, Miss Kelley."
Saying on multiple occasions that "you couldn't have made this case up," Miller refreshes the timeline and points out a few key elements:
"Another thing we have to focus on here, David Petraeus was never the target of the investigation – Paula Broadwell was – for alleged stalking and then maybe compromising the director of the CIA's e-mail which they found out later that actually is not what happened," he tells the "Piers Morgan Tonight" host. "So as this rises to the level of the director of the Central Intelligence Agency, this is now reported up to FBI headquarters which says the prudent thing, which is well, first thing we need to do is let's keep a tight hold on this until we figure out what we have."
As Monday's show continued, Morgan also invited journalist Michael Hastings to share his unique opinion on Petraeus' tenure as a whole:
"Essentially the media has played a role in protecting David Petraeus, and promoting David Petraeus, and mythologizing David Petraeus," said the author of such "Rolling Stone" articles as "The Runaway General" and "King David's War."
Criticizing those that have defended the now-former CIA boss, Hastings aimed to draw attention towards what he classified as "the real problems with David Petraeus' record," including "the fact that he manipulated the White House into escalating Afghanistan. He ran a campaign in Iraq that was brutally savage, included arming the worst of the worst, Shiite death squads, Sunni militiamen."
Watch the clips, and listen to the interviews, as both Hastings and Miller further offer their perspective on the man who saw a nearly four decade long career in public service come to a conclusion in shocking fashion.

You guys can't even spell atheist. Hire an intern who's an English major, come on.
It's a soap opera. What started out as a conspiracy theory for the Benghazi attacks had no basis.
Piers Morgan: Being brought up as a strict Roman Catholic, infidelity is never morally correct. However, history has shown that even great leaders have tripped more than once. While in the US Navy for 9 years, we were often told that we were ambassadors to the world. Could we please let the FBI and Congress address this matter for security breaches. Who's not to say that national or foreign governments are not promoting this exposure? Focus on national security and the fiscal cliff. Let husband and wife and God judge this misstep. Jim D
