Clips From Last Night: Fareed Zakaria on Israel and Gaza; Ambassador Ron Prosor on Hamas

As violence continues to flare between the Israelis and the Palestinians, "Piers Morgan Tonight" welcomed Fareed Zakaria to the program. The host of CNN's "Fareed Zakaria GPS" shared his expert perspective on the current unrest in the region. "The Israelis are justified in doing something when all these rockets are being fired at them," said Zakaria regarding the attacks. "So there's no question that it's justified."

"The question you are asking is, 'is it wise?'" continued Zakaria. "They've tried this military action before. That hasn't worked. Everything they're doing now is tactical. They will be able to destroy the infrastructure of terror for awhile. But what is their long term strategic vision? What is the political dialogue that they are going to have? How are they going to try to have some kind of permanent peace, stability in that region?"

Also on Thursday evening, Piers Morgan sat down with Israeli Ambassador to the UN, Ron Prosor. The Ambassador spoke about the dangers of the Palestinian political party, Hamas, warning, "Hamas are the enemies of peace. Not just the enemies of Israel. They are the enemies of peace, regional stability in the region, and to peace both internally on the Palestinian side and between Palestinians and Israel."

"They don't recognize Israel as a state. They want to annihilate us," said Prosor. "Hamas shoots in order to hit civilians and cities indiscriminately, the state of Israel tries to target those terrorists that hide in schools, in hospitals, and using the civilians as human shields so in the sense, we are trying to really pinpoint and it's not easy to do that in civilian population."

A couple of Fareed Zakaria's comments are not exactly correct. First, the Israeli embargo of shipments into Gaza is not an attempt to enstrangle the economics and prosperity of Gaza. The Israeli embargo is absolutely necessary because of the ever escalating amount of arms and military weapons being shipped to terrorists inside Gaza. Secondly, it is not true that Israel has taken many steps to thwart the progress of the Palestinian people in Gaza, versus those in the West Bank. In the past Israel has taken great strides t allow hope and growth for the Palestinians. Each such concession has resulted in increased attacks into Israel from Gaza. The bottom line on the Palestinians is that they can never live in peace in Gaza as long as the Palestinian people hate Israel more than they love their own children. Not pretty facts, but true.
