Dan Gross of the Brady Campaign: "We don't want to live in a society where violence leads to more violence, and guns leads to more guns"

In the aftermath of Friday's shocking school shooting in Newton, Conn., on Sunday "Piers Morgan Tonight" hosted a special live edition of the program, welcoming a series of guests tasked with adding insight and perspective to a tragedy that left 26 people dead.

With 20 children, ages 6 and 7, murdered inside their Sandy Hook Elementary School, Steve Dulan and Dan Gross engaged in a thoughtful debate about measures to be taken in hopes of curbing gun violence:

"Our group is a single issue, non-partisan group. We have Democrats, Republicans, and Independents on our board and in our membership, and most of them are elected officials," said Dulan, the Attorney for the Michigan Coalition of Responsible Gun Owners. "We've got the National Instant Criminal Background Check in place."

"Right, but that only applies to 60 percent of gun sales," clarified Gross, the president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. "Do you agree with covering the other 40 percent of gun sales with background checks?"

"It's literally impossible," claimed Dulan. "We have a lot of guns in circulation on Earth and in the United States. We know that guns pass across borders ... national and state borders."

Noting that the three most-recent mass shooting incidents have all featured a variation of the same firearm – "an AR-15 rifle, aided and abetted by high-capacity magazines" – Piers Morgan asked Dulan why he approved of such guns being sold in mainstream stores.

"We did actually try from 1994-2004, we tried the so-called 'assault weapons ban,'" he told the host. "It had no impact on crime that anyone could measure whatsoever, and the truth is, sometimes these guns are used in very positive ways to save lives."

Joining Morgan in studio, Gross got the final word:

"This is totally disconnected with what the American people want, and the conversation that's happening out there, and that's what gives me inspiration to continue to have conversations like this," he said. "The American public knows that we are better than this. We don't want to live in a society where violence leads to more violence, and guns leads to more guns."

Watch the clips, and listen to the interviews, as Dulan and Gross each offer their opinion as to why firearms should or should not be more heavily regulated.

Guns are the key issue. A person with mental illness (26% of the general population in the us, 22% in Canada) – the difference is access to guns. the statistic is about 10,000 gun deaths vs 50 in Canada. First responders do not have time to get there with guns. If it were a knife the offender would be taken down by others before the police would arrive. Guns provide too much power. Gun lobbyists arguments are flawed logically –

    1. gun owners rights do not outweigh society's rights for safety.
    2. guns are purchased by law abiding citizens, yes but they don't always stay law abiding.
    3. police and citizens cannot respond quickly enough to gun massacres whereas a knife-wielding terrorist can be taken down much more easily.
    4. accidents happen
    5. 26% of US citizens have mental disability; 22% in Canada. Guns are not legally carried in Canada and the difference in deaths by handguns is very significantly corrected to gun access and ownership.

Australia got rid of all the guns, guess what? Armed robbery UP 69%, Assault with guns UP 28%, Gun murders UP 19%, Home invasions Up 19%., As long as our goverments serve as an anchor between humans and weapons. then the "gun" will be a fixture on planet Earth. Goverments are supposed to be leadership, they are giving peace very little chance. why should they though humans have never gotten along, thats history. Weapons and humanity go hand in glove. Alcohos kills 25,000 people a year on the roads. number one killer of 16 -24 year olds debate that. Same thing though. Thats the planet we live on.

Because of all the guns already in circulation, any solution designed to restrict them will take time, in fact years, to be more fully effective. The flaw in the gun rights advocates' argument is that if a proposed solution isn't perfectly effective, then there's no point to adopting that solution.

Please, gun advocates, please tell us when, in the long history of the human race, that there has ever been a perfect solution. Human beings are incapable of crafting "perfect solutions."

Argue all you a few weeks, the same thing will happen that always happens after a school shooting. Everyone forgets what they were fighting about and nothing is done. Sad (extremely pathetic) but true.

What rubbish. As an Australian I know that crime has gone down, assults have decreased and violence has been reduced since the Howard Government placed a ban on guns. This ridiculous slogan that people keep on saying "guns dont kill people, people kill people". Right and people kill people with guns and do so at a rate that can wipe out 20 people in a minute. Guns kill people.

The comments I've just read below are extremely sad. Piers is a great journalist and shows very high dignity in his job. This is a great soul not affected by evil like too many people who have posted below.
I think Lafayette would be horrified to see what America has become after all he and France have done to set these people free. The American people is no longer free, it is hostage of an extremist lobby group who feels the freedom of buying an AK 15 is more important than the beauty of life. It is amazing to see that guns kill nearly 3 times as much per year as the 9/11 events and nobody seems to care. The impact of gun damage on the economy and reputation of your country should not be underestimated. God bless my beautiful American brothers and sisters who died for the sake of gun freedom. Continue your great job Piers !

Yeah! we need to keep all those AK 15's off the street! Those are the worst guns in the world! and we need to restrict clips! and also assault rifles!
Guns kill people and the more laws we have restricting guns the less people will be shot. Let those with the most knowledge about guns make the decisions on these issues!

I am sorry, but if you want to make comparisons, let's look at the number of deaths, injuries and damage on the roadways. 1.9 million accidents, 2.9 million injuries, 43443 death, 14.7 deaths per 100,000 and 891.5 injuries per 100k on the roadways. Now guns, 3.7 per 100k by guns and you can break done even further if you factor out gang violence and the like and the number os eve lower. But yet when we put up traffic cameras and red light cameras which do work by the way but the media self sensors that information. We can take up busses if you wish and I don't hear anyone saying we should ban busses.

I used to think Mr Morgan was a good journalist but not any longer. He should not be offering an opinion but presenting both sides of the story with facts. Instead what I see is a person that if an interviewee is not going along with him he cuts him off. Bad form Mr. Morgan.

I'm from England and I also have two children born here and of the same age group as those who were at the school. I Will keep my comments brief and to the point I 100% agree with piers in what he says right from the start. The hard part is trying to connivence the whole of the USA to give up it's gun culture. It can happen we have seen it done in the UK after the shooting in Dun Blane Scotland there was a complete ban on any hand guns in England. You can still own a hand gun but only if it kept at the gun club locked up. The answer is a simple one you just have to want it bad enough. Now the solution and how to implement it is the hard thing. This may come into play I do not know but when it was written about everyone should have the right to bare arms, this was written in a totally different time period when the law was not a phone call away. We have since moved far away from that time and I think we should look at re visiting what should be put in it's place. And every one in the UK as long as you do not have a criminal record can have a fire arm. It's just as a nation the majority do not own one.

I live in Canada. We have just as strong a relationship with guns as those in the US. The difference is we base our laws on our culture of hunting. Lots of people in Canada have guns and the government isn't trying to take them away. They are just trying to make us more responsible for our guns. We have very strict handgun laws and I think handguns should be banned altogether here. Nobody except the police should have handguns. The only thing handguns are good for is killing people. If you want to go to the range and shoot handguns then keep them at the range. Hunting rifles are not allowed huge clips for amunition either. We had the long gun registry but it really didn't solve this type of issue. We register the gun owners. We have to take courses get background checks before we get a PAL(Possesion aquisition license). We need this license to purchase guns and ammo. You can't and shouldn't be able to go and buy a gun with a drivers license. The US should adopt the Canadian laws and processes. It does work as you can see by the stats and it doesn't take peoples hunting rifles away like a lot of nutbars in the US say. Please do the right thing and make some real change.

What a Godforsaken country and culture USA is cancerous.
Most guns per capita than any other country in the world
Most users of prescription drugs in the world by far.
Most users of illegal drugs than any other country in the world
13000 deaths a year caused by drunk drivers.
9-12000 deaths per year by guns
Yes USA thinks they are pretty good at keeping its people safe from outside threats but it simply cannot keep its people safe from inside wonder people keep trying to shove the archaic 2nd amendment down people's throats as the only saviour , truth is the masses need to wake up and put people in charge that have more on their minds for improving the country than a stupid fiscal cliff, fact is you have mountain to climb before you become more civil than many of the countries you call third world.

I am a divorced father of a 7 year old daughter. Like all humans I am deeply sadden and emotionally struck by this senseless killing of defenseless children by a madman without purpose.

I am also offended by your show and other media trying to link the killings to gun control rights or video games which are not in my view on the mark. (I am not a gun owner) It is unquestionably true a madman will find a way to kill with or without guns.

It is my considered view that if politicians including p. Obama what to help children they should put this energy to work, get serious, and the focus should be on putting qualified Judges into the probate courts and cleaning up the mess there which hurts children especially young children by the 1000's.all across this country.

I await the story explaining how this young madman's not having a proper father figure in his upbringing contributed to this event. All the focus is on limiting gun rights. Perhaps we should all get serious and look at the real problems today and in particular how probate courts damage our children and probably contributed here.

    Just a thought.

Duh! What about other violent deaths/murders in Canada that don't involve guns (since they are baned) how do they compare to the US? aren't they also innocent victims? how many victoms of violent crimes would there be without the right to protect your family and yourself? Lets ban knifes, baseball bats, chainsaws, antifreeze, (poisons) axes, shovels, lawnmower blades (from the movie Slingblade) the list can go on and on and on. how bout homemade bombs? (Timothy McVey ?) Airplanes (911?) Government can't protect us with laws from everything. Cocane, pot, meth, gangs, drunk driving and so on. Criminals get what they want one way or another and laws won't stop them! GUNS ARE NOT THE KEY ISSUE! News (CNN) and shows like Morgans that keeps these tragic assaults on our innocent citizens on the front page has just as much resporesponsibility.(Giving others the idea to go down in history as being the worst to go to Hell) Morgan was a talent Judge,( not a very good one at that! ) Let the US control the US, not Britain and Canada! 10000 gun deaths in the US and 50 in Canada. That would = 500 in gun deaths in Canada if you factored in the population difference. I live in Canada and own guns. I hunt all the time and almost everyone I know has guns and hunts. why is our gun death total so much lower? Simple really. We have much better laws and we can't carry hand guns as they are restricted. We had the long gun registry which I did not agree with and we did finally get rid of it. The gun registry didn't save any lives and cost way too much. We already have a licensing system and it works very well. Those who say Canada bans guns is just full of S$%t.

I just heard on CNN... Piers tonight, that Piers has NEVER heard of an individual with a concealed gun save a life or come to the aid of someone being threatened by another individual with a gun..... Where here is an example of a US Citizen coming to the aid of a shop owner being robbed at gun point......

I know everyone's attention is focused on Gun Control in the wake of what just happened in Conn. A tragedy by a sick young Man..... a senseless act which everyone is asking .... Why ? ......... I am asking what if ? ..... What if one responsible, trained teacher or principle had a weapon to defend against these types of activity...... Here is an article in which such an incident occurred in Goldsboro..... Maurice Lewis, walked into a Kangaroo Express as it was being robbed at gunpoint..... Maurice felt the store owners life was in jeopardy ..... so, he pulled his concealed weapon and shot Christopher Vann in the head....... saving the store owner. We will never stop these sick people with more laws..... just as you are not going to stop the next overdose by making heroin any more illegal...... I, like you have questions, but I know the next time I leave my home.... my legally concealed weapon will be with me to defend / protect my life and those I love.

what is wrong with some comon sense laws. All gun owners need to take a course, you need a separate federal license to own or carry a gun and a criminal check is done as part of your license. you need that license to buy a gun and ammunition.
The big one is get rid of handguns. You don't need a handgun to go hunt deer or ducks, you also don't need a 100 shot clip. If you ban handguns the need for everyone to have one goes away. Of course criminals will get them ilegally but you can then make the penalties for having a handgun so stiff nobody will risk it. minimum 10 years for possesing a handgun and 20 years if used in a crime. It won't take your guns you use for hunting away.

Terry and others, We are currently overcrowded in our prisons and letting out offenders before they serve their time. So overpopulating the prisons with parents who possess a handgun to defend their family (me included) isn't much of a solution. Also this kid had no criminal past and was well trained (went shooting with mom often) so HOW does a background or shooting course help this situation? Politicians will play politics with this issue as they always do. I personally don't see the need for assault rifles or clips greater than 10 rounds BUT realize that this will not fix the issue and will only be political. Guns and bombs are easy to acquire and even build, nothing will stop a psycho except finding out why they were hurt (bullying maybe?) and why they dressed the part for the murders (video games maybe?) and why they are going for bigger and more kills (media hype maybe?, I've heard 2nd deadliest about 20 times this weekend). Anyway that's my thought.....................

I am currently a Virginia Tech student. I am from a rural area in central Virginia where a large portion of citizens are hunters and have access to guns. Being close to the Blacksburg community I sympathize with the Newtown, CT community and understand that everyone has extremely mixed feelings about a possible solution to this problem. As I watched this "debate" I was very disgusted at the fact that both Mr. Morgan and Mr. Gross never really let Mr. Dulan convey his position. Considering Mr. Morgan's position within CNN, one would hope that he would have a more objective take throughout interviews and "debates". We are all upset that this tragedy occurred, and want to do everything in our power to make a change. In my opinion it is very irresponsible of figures in the media to take a stand on issues rather than state the facts to allow the American people to take an unbiased approach while forming their own opinions. It seemed to me that Mr. Morgan and Mr. Gross were on constant attack in regards to Mr. Dulan. I have not formed a black or white opinion on this issue. Growing up, I was around guns all of the time and never felt unsafe or threatened. After the Virginia Tech Massacre, I began to have conflicting views on this issue. After watching the segment, it became very clear to me that Mr. Morgan let his emotions and opinions take over and lost a sense of professionalism. Shame on you.

Piers .. You'll soon understand that good intentions will never be succeeded when it comes to Gun Control in America. Nobody will understand the difference between Ban on Guns vs Gun Control. Very few people in America really understand 2nd Amendment. Second Amendment protects an individual's right to possess a firearm, unconnected to service in a militia and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home. We respect that. But having an assault weapon that can fire multiple rounds for self-defense is ridiculous. It is a 2 billion $ industry legally and 10 billion$ illegally to rogue nations. Fear mongering Agencies/Manufacturers will do anything to promote their Agenda. It is the same folks who possibly sold to both sides, good and bad guys, and made money. People will never learn till it hits someone close to them.

To try and have an educated discussion with those living in a parallel universe is pointless. They are driven by pure emotion and not logic or fact. Regardless of your position on guns, if a person violates 40 or more laws in the commission of a crime, only a disconnected idiot thinks anything will be accomplished by passing more. These fools were rude, obnoxious and can't be reasoned with. There is nothing anyone can say or do to explain a mental defective who murders children. My guns killed no one today or ever. Nothing will be served by trying to deny my lawful ownership of defensive weapons. Many more lives could be saved by managing obesity or traffic fatalities. I grieve for those children and their parents, but refuse to allow myself to become another political victim in their effigy.

Gun lobbies especially the NRA are an evil part of our society. Gun ownership is not our Savior. In order to find solutions to gun ownership we have to turn to Jesus Christ and not forces of evil. These evil spirits can only be conquered by the Holy Spirit. These groups have convinced millions of people to put their faith in guns. God is a jealous God. God sent Moses to tell Pharaoh to let his people go. God will bless the US America. God will remove the grip that the Gun lobbies and the NRA have on its people.

I watched the vigil tonight, which gave me comfort.
As a Mother of a 26 year old Autistic son, cueing is a major part of communication. Growing up, my sons and I played video games. Mario Brothers on the first Nintendo helped my Austistic son with eye/hand coordination, after I taught him how to talk. Video games were like movie and popcorn night. At a young age, they were taught, they was a time limit, just by parental guidance, caring and awareness.
When my sons became teenagers, my Autistic son played basketball, football, golf and nascar video games.
That was his preferences of games.
In 2006, I bought my Autistic son the xbox 360. The games he wanted were golf and nascar.

My autistic son is a very loving and compassionate person.
Last Friday morning, my son got on the computer on learned of the NewTown shooting before it was on the television.
An hour later, it was on the television.
    It's all about the cueing.
Luckily, I was born a very patient caring person.

To conclude, there have always been arms control in my lifetime. The citizens, who abide by the law, to bear arms , for protection or hunting for food, I can understand. All states are different on hunting laws. Getting control of the illegal guns in these United States of America would take some strict measures.
Illegal gun trafficking is no different than illegal drug trafficking..

So......because the crime stats didnt go down after the "assult weapon" bann, you decided to just put them back in stores? When asked why high capacity magazines should be allowed to be sold, you answer becuse theyre just as easy to make at home?? THATS your solution?? THATS your EXPLINATION????? Yet he cant answer a simple question why a backround check cannot be applied 100% to gun sales???!! What is wrong with that guy???

"We did actually try from 1994-2004, we tried the so-called 'assault weapons ban,'" he told the host. "It had no impact on crime that anyone could measure whatsoever, and the truth is, sometimes these guns are used in very positive ways to save lives." <--That last sentence.....Ok, i believe that......i believe that maybe these assult weapons were used to save lives by MILITARY OFFICIALS OR POLICE OFFICERS. No houshold needs to have an assult weapon in a house....especially with kids or teenagers.....

I forgot to add, when I learned this young man who committed this heinous crime was Autistic, I thought, ' Oh God, my son's going to see this.' (My son knows he is Autistic)
Saturday morning, when he got on the computer, he came into the living room and said, " He was Autistic just like me."
I replied,"Yes, he was Autistic but there something that caused this young man to commit such a crime."
My son has conveyed his thoughts and prayers to the families.

This man saved countless lives and should included. Why would you not include the entire interview with these two gentlemen?

Since when do we need foreigners (in this case a Brit) telling us about guns and other issues of our domestic policy? We got rid of the darn Brits over 200 years ago for this very reason. Both Great Britian and Australia disarmed and they now have the highest gun crime in their history. Remember the old bumper sticker: "When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.?" Well, folks, it's true. Unfortunately, we'll always have nuts in society. If they want to kill, they'll use guns, bombs, knives, clubs, bows and arrows, or any other weapon available. The truth is, if the adults in the school were allowed to be armed, the murdering nut would be dead now and there would be way less fatalities. My prayers go out to all the innocent victims and their families.

I have just seen this item on the internet and I am a dutch women. I am scared by all your comments. We European don't need guns to protect each other, we don't have gun control on the scool. Yes we have incidents in Europe as well but very few and not as many as in your country. Why, simply as we don't have guns. We simply can't abuse them because we don't have them. Stop thinking as everything is a war, as daily life is a war. Stop thinking as your governement is only doing wrong this for you. Decent people who care for their lifes, their culture don't need weapons but go for a talk with their neighours, etc. I really hate to see this angry people and read this comments, you are not helping the society. Let please be that these kids and all the other victims have given their lives for the sake of a peacefull society without guns.

As we grief this senseless and tragic loss of the innocent victims of gun violence let us think of all the innocent victims of armed violence that was started by George Bush and his criminal gang. Did they have Aspirer syndrome or Autistic or any other mental illness the media wants to label. This his young man was as wicked as George Bush has been. What is absolutely horrific CNN did not have the guts to accuse George Bush or label him. Where are the names and ages of each innocent killing that George Bush started. We as a society have become evil and sick. We don't question our leaders, we don't question our media thats gaged by groups that control it. We are sending a double messages to our children. Sadly this type of evil will continue in our country. As we pray for our own lets us also pray for all the 147 children that has been killed by US Drones far way from CNN cameras. Far away Anderson Cooper and Mr Morgan.

I am 78 years old and I have Aspirer Syndrome. I am marred, I have children and grandchildren and yes I cry and I also have feelings for people out side my family. What I just can not do is lie.

Piers – love your show!!! Please, please, please share my blog. What I don't understand about this senseless killing in Newtown and all others is that everyone is dismissing the parents in all of this. What you will find is that ALL OF THESE PARENTS KNEW THAT THERE KIDS HAD PROBLEMS AND DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ABOUT IT...I'm tired of everyone questioning and blaming the gun laws, President Obama, other elected officials, etc. Caring for the children starts with the parents paying attention to their kids. THE PARENTS NEED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FIRST!!! COME ON PEOPLE – STOP GIVING THESE PARENTS A BREAK AS THEY KNOW THEIR KIDS ARE MENTALLY ILL!! This just makes me sick!!! IT STARTS AT HOME PEOPLE!!! Stop letting your kids lock themselves in their rooms and tell you not to enter, etc....THAT'S A SIGN!!! Why would a parent train their child, who has ISSUES, to operate fire arms? ...and why would families need those types of me I think families like that need to be questioned about their mental capacity!!! To me, this is simple...THE PARENTS ARE THE PROBLEM!!!!

Carla it's easy to blame the parents. There are laws that prevents the parents from getting help for children over a certain age, thats when we start to seeing all the red flags. Our society and system needs to be examined as our therapist are quick to blame parents because they lack the knowledge to know what is inside the heads of wicked and evil people or they over react and put the kids on strong medications that's not needed. Why did Barbara Bushes not see all the tell tail signs of a baboon or a evil man ? Just because his killing of innocent people was based on lies so far away from us we just washed it away from our hearts and mind. Our media failed us because of the Patriot Act. We never got to see photos of the babies, toddlers, women and children who did not get the time to flee like our innocent victims at Sandy Hook Elementary School. George Bushes parents were not divorced though he did have ADD in school but got accepted into Yale. Wow ! We have George Bush and his friends as a good example of what is sick in our society. If these people can get away what message are we giving our young ? Lets get our therapist find out what was side the head George Bushes who caused the killing innocent millions.

To the gun lovers-who needs semi-automatic weapons for sport or hunting? If you need to shoot dozens of bullets to hit your target or kill your prey, it's time to take up swimming and become a vegetarian. I am sick off this debate! There is absolutely no need for these weapons in our society.

To Steve Dulan....I hope you never in your life experience what these 26 families are going through right now. Your gun control reasoning makes me sick. You mentioned that the gentleman that did the shooting in that movie theater could have picked a theater closer to his home, but he chose that one. You claim that theater was located in an area that had better gun control laws, and yet he still picked that theater. NO NO NO.....he picked that theater because of the number of people that were in the theater.

I think Steve Dulan should live on an island with all the other people that think it is right to be able to buy guns that have the ability to shoot multiple rounds. That type of gun killed 26 beautiful people in Newtown, Ct. He should be ashamed of himself.

My deepest condolences and prayers to the families and friends of the children and their educators which were so tragically taken from us on Friday in Newtown. I do not usually watch Piers Morgan but last night's show was good journalism and a thoughtful intelligent interview where all guests were treated with respect and allowed to express their views. I hope that this new trend continues. I was however horrified by the comments concerning guns and video games by two of these guests, one of which is a mental health expert.

We are indeed living in a culture of violence which has taken decades to create. Our pop culture, media (including the news), entertainment (music lyrics, movies, video games etc.) all have played a strong role in creating this and continue to perpetuate it. Simultaneously there has been a steady disintegration of the family unit, as well as basic values and morals; and those who support these (as well as religion, especially Christianity) are portrayed and ridiculed as ignorant, out of date, out of touch, and irrelevant.

We as a society have put our personal freedom above everything else, including the welfare of our fellow citizens. Freedom carries with it responsibility. We are responsible for our actions and words to those around us and anyone that they may affect. Instead of celebrating hurtful behavior let us try to elevate society. Yes, this can be done without affecting ratings or losing the opportunity to make millions or billions of dollars.

Let us all rally around President Obama and support him in his efforts he stated yesterday in his speech at Newtown. Let us assist him, and not allow politics, or big business/interests to curtail his efforts. If we all work together and as individuals we can do this. Let us make the effort to be better friends, neighbors, members of the community now and for the rest of our lives. Do not let the voices of the 27 children and their educators be silenced. They can live on through all of us in the positive good world we can create together, a New Town.

If we had more enforcement, maybe some folks might actually slow down. Same with most all of our laws. Putting a 20MPH sign if front of our house, in a school zone, did not slow down traffic. When a patrol car is sitting there with radar, hey they go much slower. The sign/law did nothing to save the other families dogs, three in all, told" be thankful it wasn't your kid", when the Sheriff's dept. has that view? They need more people on the street, to enforce the already written laws. Just my thoughts.

The NRA is not protecting the right to bear arms; the NRA is currently protecting the efficiency in killing more people in the least amount of times. The NRA is protecting the right to kill twenty kids, with multiple bullets in each of them, without having to reload in between. If I was Al-Qaeda, I would stop wasting time in planning my next attack on the US, but I would rather fund the NRA. This organization is providing the tools for Americans to kill other Americans, this with much more efficiency than the terrorist organization could ever achieve...

(Hope you recall that cry, Piers). Yes, background checks could be done. but the nutballs and crooks will still get guns, or use bricks, or clubs or whatever. Let's discuss the prevalence of violent killing in movies, TV, and video games. Wolf, been watching your reporting since the the 1st Gulf War. Great job so far on the school shooting coverage. But, yesterday Soledad went off reporting and giving her opinion about Gun Control, she needs to ask the questions and let the respondent answer, she was off base, again today this morning a CNN reporter again started asking about "Automatic Weapons and not Semi-Automatic Weapons, she reported the the shooter had "Automatic Weapons" referred to the weapon's magazines as "clips" most people who have an understanding about weapons know the magazine is not a clip. Please stay with the facts. It is very clear to me, the school should have provided an Armed Security Officer, like a retired Law Enforcement or Police Officer assigned to the schools. Why does it seem like the people in the area are shocked if a Police Officer is assigned to the school. In my area of the country we have had a Police Office/Law Enforcement Officer of some type in our schools and the metro area since the late 60s. It's a normal procure to have security at most schools, malls and movie theaters including special events, Why not protect your self from things you cannot control. The school district is responsible for this tragedy. Why are the dead teachers called heroes? They would have been better off alive to protect there students and assistance with the events as they happened, why did the school nurse hide for 4 hours in a closet, instead of helping the wounded and dying, she wasn't protecting the students cowering in a closet for 4 hrs.

What if she was armed and had confronted the shooter? Should she have shot him as the "Senator" so sickenly describes? What if she had accidently shot one of the school kids in the process? What type of training would she have received to use this weapon? What backup would she have had? Perhaps a kindergarten teacher packing a weapon as well? Why do we have insurance on our vehicles? Is it because of the danger aspect? Why not guns? In america... guns will never be removed, but why aren't there other means to control them? Who will pay for my daughter's funeral or medical bills if she gets shot? Why aren't there insurance laws on guns? It would help regulate who buys them, they would have to be registered, and if someone is found carrying a gun without insurance, they could be fined.... just like owning a car. Why not have a test.... like a driving test... that teaches people the responsibility of fire arms? It seems that some company would have jumped on this opportunity.... or our governement... on this idea and make a lot of money.

Set up a 100.000 dollar fine for anyone carrying a handgun in a public place and the problem would be solved right away. Riffles should only be allowed for hunters and inside private properties. America is no longer a safe place because of those millions of guns in free circulation. How can we live in a country where attending school, going to a theater or eating at a restaurant put your life at risk ?

But why is the conversation about GUN control so serious when white children get murdered in mass numbers? When this is the norm for blacks and browns every day! What does this say about the United States and the world. In spite of this tragedy the TRUTH has to be set free. The real question is not do we need better gun control laws...that's obvious. The true question we believe a white young life is worth more that a young black or brown life? This is the question that will plague us. GOD BLESS!

I was a huge Larry King fan so I will be honest and say I have only watched Pierce Morgan's show on a limited basis. Since this horrific incident in Newtown Conn, I have been somewhat glued to CNN (my favorite channel) and I caught last nights Pierce Morgan's show as well as this evenings and am shocked that Mr. Morgan has an audience. He is rude and way out of line. I believe that what ever our differences are, when you are the host of a show and invite a guest to express their view than you need to temper your view in a gracious and cohesive manner. Suffice to say I will never watch this show again and am very surprised that CNN would have this tongue lashing self righteous guy have the microphone. Calling his guests ( I didn't agree with his guests point of view either but that isn't the point) idiots and so on is counter productive. Come on CNN there are a lot of American talk show hosts that have grace and style, you can do better. I am thinking Regis Philbin,Gayle King,Diane Sawyer to name a few, If you didn't have Anderson Cooper I may be saying good bye to CNN forever!

I'm a current law enforcement officer, and campus safety officer. I'm a firm believer in the Second Amendment, and I think I can sum up my belief in a single quote, by Thomas Jefferson. "Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants."

Piers reacted out of emotion, and didn't allow his opposing guests to form an argument. He repeatedly lost his cool and cut them off when they were trying to give their reasons for disagreeing with him. Piers mirrored the majority of his viewers: driven by emotion rather than logic. ***Logic does NOT support the gun-control zealots.*** Consider, for one thing, the courageous principal who sacrificed her own life by attempting to tackle the gunman: if she'd had a *gun* instead of having to use her body as a "weapon," doesn't it stand to reason that the event would've turned out differently, or that at least there'd have been a far greater chance of bringing down the shooter early on?

*****Gun-control laws, worldwide, have NOT lowered the statistics on gun crimes. In fact, they've *raised* those statistics. When you outlaw guns–then only the outlaws have guns. Newtown changes *nothing*, but everybody's reacting out of raw emotion.
