Alex Jones on guns in America: "The Republic will rise again when you attempt to take our guns"
Tonight, Piers Morgan returned to the host's chair and addressed the official White House petition created to deport the British television journalist and television host.
Alex Jones, co-creator of the petition, joined Morgan live in studio as he explained why he wants Morgan deported. "We did it to point out that this is globalism and the mega banks that control the planet and brag that they've taken over in Bloomberg, AP, Reuters, you name it, brag that they are going to get our guns as well."
During the interview, Jones defended his view of gun rights and ownership stating "The Second Amendment isn't there for duck hunting, it's there to protect us from tyrannical government and street thugs."
Jones also supported his view of "more guns less crime" by referring to the recent violent crime of gang rape in India. "You can't ban the iron rods, the guns, the iron rods, Piers, didn't do it. The tyrants did it."
"1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms," Jones passionately claimed. "Doesn't matter how many lemmings you get out there on the street begging for them to have their guns taken from them. We will not relinquish them, do you understand?"
"The establishment knows no matter how much propaganda, the Republic will rise again when you attempt to take our guns."

Well, though I admit I periodically listen to Alex, I will say he did nothing but embarrass himself and his cause with this. I strongly agree with Mr. Jones that the 2nd amendment is a right we should protect. I believe Mr. Jones ranting like a mad man instead of intelligently defeating Piers Morgan like Larry Pratt did will hurt the cause of protecting liberty. I for one will not turn in my firearms, our ancestors fought for us to have the right to own firearms to protect ourselves and our families. The claim that we don't "need" to own a firearm is just silly, we don't "need" a 20 piece mcnugget from Mcdonalds but we arn't banning those are we? I want to my firearms, I paid money for them, I have the right to own them, I've never caused harm with them to another human, and therefor I will not turn them in.

Actually, I have to disagree with you sir, though the Mcnuggets don't kill kids in 20 minutes, obesity is a growing epidemic, and is a serious health risk for our children, obesity related diseases do infact kill us, and our children. My simple point is I'm a law abiding citizen, who would not dream of causing harm to another human, are you stating that a few mentally ill people should cause me to lose my rights? I refuse to give up a right due to the actions of other people, I know myself, and my intentions, and I know that I mean no harm to anyone, I don't even hunt, I like shooting, as a sport, I enjoy it.
I agree. Very dissapointed with Alex's showing. He is important to society and he does spread the word and whatever truth he finds. However, CNN was a great opportunity to create a valid argument to the wihkd be gun gasbbers that watch main stream news, but Alex took the bait and ranted like a maniac. Its one thing to carry on to your regular listeners but to get the message out to the rest of America would have taken more restraint and tact. Alex looked insane and Piers played along. You're comparing apples and oranges...yes, nuggets are causing obesity and malnutrition in kids that could lead to death, but they're not designed to kill massive amounts of people in a short period of time. Also, parents can avoid obesity in kids by monitoring their diet. There isn't much a parent can do when their kid is getting shot up in school. No one wants to take away your rights to own firearms, but just because we have the 2nd amendment it doesn't mean that there shouldn't be some guidelines and limitations (even the 1st amendment has its limitations). I have a right to go to movie theater, go the mall, go to work and not worry about being blown away by an AR15.

Well put Brooke. It really is sad how so many people irrationally think that if restrictions are placed on guns, crime rates will be somehow be lowered. One look at the inverse ratio of gun control legislation to violent crime in Chicago, Britain and other states/nations is proof of this. I'm not an Alex fan. Actually, until I saw this "show", I had never heard of him before. I am embarrassed as a gun owner that this guy Alex Jones has been given an opportunity to represent his beliefs, on behalf of the gun owners in this country. We have lossed the oportunity to represent ourselves in the positive and resonable manner that most of us conduct ourselves with on a daily basis due to the rantings of people like this. I was devistated by the shootings at Sandyhook, and I would gladly give up every gun I own, if it would bring back the life of just one child that was taken from us on that day....I know that is not possible. We responsible gun owners have not been represented well by the vary people who are in the position to positivley contribute to this issue with common sence solutions and clear headed respectfull dialog with the vary ones who are asking questions of us.

You must have missed the older gentleman from one of the gun supporting organization who was also interviewed. He was calm, had the facts and the little arrogant Brit just called him a stupid man. The few loan voices out there are portrayed as fanatics and compared to the propaganda they have been giving for years, it does sound fanatical.

First, I would like to say I am not anti-American, although I am not liberal. I am an ex-marine, my father ex-army special forces, his father is ex-army artillery. My great uncle died on the beaches of Okinawa, an Island on which I have served.
It has been admitted that the gulf of Tonkin was a staged event by our government to get us into the Vietnam war.
And, yes I thought the 9-11 truthers were crazy at first. But, after researching the facts many things seem strange about the whole event. Norad stood down, a drill was going on when it happen (regarding terrorist flying planes into buildings), and massive amount of shorts on airline stocks occurred ( which were never really investigated).
Let’s assume Alex is crazy.
I just ask you to do a few simple things.
Look up as much as you can about 9-11, Waco, and ruby ridge, and see what Alex has to say about it.

But, then wait six months, and see what has happen in our country and think about it again.

Morgan was pushing hot buttons on Jones. His entire strategy was to make Jones look crazy and then had obviously prepared followup guests to bring on to talk about how crazy Jones was and how they need to take his guns. This was obviously completed staged and preplanned by producers etc
Alex should have stayed calm but he did not. He is passionate. Dismissing the facts Alex Jones was saying because of his body language or tone is unfortunate. They were important facts in the debate.
I have watched Piers Morgan's show pretty much since he started with CNN and I have seen him push buttons because that is what a good interviewer does but tonight he restrained from doing so. The only person who made Alex Jones look an idiot was Alex Jones. As for Mr. Jones's "facts" I made a point of checking some of his statements but none were true.
I am not a big fan of Piers Morgan but I do fear for his safety and that of his family. Someone with a temperament like Alex Jones should not be allowed near a firearm let alone fifty.

I'm not an Alex fan. Actually, until I saw this "show", I had never heard of him before. Because we have been programmed by the media for so many years, anyone who speaks out against what is going on in a passionate manner appears delusional. The problem is the masses are and have been deluded for many years. Most people on here and in the media are using fear and emotion to get people motivated. And while it does motive people, fear and emotion does not lead to rational debate or sound policy decisions. And unfortunately most people know little, to nothing about history or what is going on even now. The govt needs to be focusing on criminals and the mentally ill and not law abiding citizens. And the Soviets and the Nazi's labeled anyone who did not go along with them as mentally ill, so they could lock them away. Oh how soon we forget!

Alex's presentation completely took away from the message. Although mostly factual, he misspoke regarding the guns used at Sandy Hook, getting so worked up to the point of shouting and challenging piers to a boxing match is quite indecorous. Piers has no trouble putting his foot in his mouth but Alex never gave him the chance. Alex's statements presented in a calm and collected manner would be powerful arguments, however when presented in rants and tirades their merit is lost. Alex's outbursts should not be used to reflect on those who support the 2nd amendment.

In 1986, when I was serving as a senior attorney at the U.S. EPA, we were hiring contractors from industry to help us conduct audits of oil refiners to determine if they were correctly reporting the amount of lead they were adding to their gasoline. (Remember that gasoline used to contain lead additive?) Because these folks had spent their caeers in industry, I had to explain to them why working for the government would serve an important public purpose. So I told them, "Look at the headlines about inattentiveness in schools, misbehavior, and falling SAT scores. All of those things are related to lead exposure, which comes mostly from emissions of cars using leaded gas. Someday someone will establish that relationship statistically." We hired good talent, but I bring this up now because since 1986 people have actually established the relationship I saw then but couldn't prove. And the results went behond even those I considered in 1986. It is now convincingly established that the best indicator of violent crime is lead exposure. If you track lead exposure, which came mostly from lead exhaust from auto tailpipes, and set it against violent crime approximately 20 years later, the two match incredibly well. It matches not just in the U.S. but worldwide. Now, your guest tonight, who said that the number of murders went down (I believe he referred to the period from 1990 to present, though I had trouble keeping track of a guy who was screaming) as the number of guns went up, was simply uninformed. In fact, he was uninformed about a great number of things, but the one statistic he seemed most set on was this one, and it turns out that he isn't much of a scientist, as he made the classic statistical mistake of treating an association as a cause. I don't guess science was his first priority. Now the irony is that lead didn't leave the market by the voluntary action of industries, by market function, or by technological innovation. It left because it was forced out by government regulation, the very thing this gentleman was ranting against. If your guest is truly against threats to his safety, he might want to re-think his opposition to government action, for the removal of lead from gasoline was one government program that literally saved civilization as we know it. So, in my view, your guest was not just uninformed, he had the truth all twisted up into knots. I feel bad for people who actually follow him. How dumb have people really become? One might consider whether that also might be a legacy of the use of gasoline lead additive.

Alan, I disagree with the guy who said your post was the most ignorant post. Your argument was logical and well stated, however your conclusions about guns is based on misinformation and years of propaganda. The govt has a right and obligation to pass laws for public safety. However, there is a process in place for that. Unfortunately, we have had for many years, a media that is run by those who have an agenda which is not in our best interest, but theirs. And we have two political parties who are doing the same, while the population is ignorant of what they are doing and is preoccupied with foolishness. And right now the media is using fear and emotion to motivate people to push for more laws. There are tons of laws already for controlling firearms. The young disturbed young man that killed these children broke numerous laws. He stole his mom's legally owned firearms. He went on school grounds with them and he shot people. He was not legally old enough to own a handgun in any state. Should those laws been in place? Yes. Did they stop him from doing what he did? The answer is obvious. The govt needs to be addressing the real issues. The main ones for this situation is, gun safety and security and mental illness treatment. A national database would not have changed anything. Even magazine capacity would not have changed it. The focus, as is typical for the govt, is misplaced.

Well done Piers. You sat back and let the buffoon Jones shot himself in the foot (pun intended). As an Aussie living in LA, I have many of the same concerns as you. I witnessed how Australia became a far safer place since we introduced gun control in 1996. I've been spending a lot of my spare time haranguing Jones' rabid supporters on his Facebook page. They are as deluded as he is, but tonight interestingly, he seems to alienated many of them too. Some of them are even calling him a "CIA plant" now! So goes the logic of the ill-educated and misinformed. I'm an atheist, but 'god help us all'.
Tony, why not return to your homeland where it is safe? I spent some time in LA. which has some of the toughest gun control laws in the country and has a very high crime rate also. Many of the surrounding areas are controlled by gangs. I'm thinking they got their guns illegally. What they do have in common with the US, though, is their VIOLENT CRIME RATE, which ranks highest in Europe, and is 2nd to the US. He also fails to include "Brown" countries (Because they don't count) in his statistics. Like in Mexico where 50,000 people are murdered a year with guns, even though they have gun control (Unless Eric Holder allows more cartels to have our weapons).
If we are going to bring "Anglo" countries in here, why not Canada? You're free to look up their crime statistics, and I'm sure you'll amazed.

Our national murder rate is not some incomprehensible mystery that can only be attributed to the inanimate tools, the steel, brass and wood that do the work. It is largely the work of adult males from age 18 to 39 with criminal records killing other males of that same age and criminal past.
Lanza and Newtown are comforting aberrations for the gun control nut. They allow us to take refuge in the fantasy that homicides in America are the work of the occasional serial killer practicing his dark art in one of those perfect small towns that always show up in murder mysteries or Stephen King novels. They fool us into thinking that there is something American about our murder rate that can be traced to hunting season, patriotism and bad mothers. The fact is, we don't have a gun problem in America, we have a gang problem.

It's clear reading many of these posts that there are a rampant number of 'sheeple' watching this network and though expected, it makes one worry. I make particular reference to a few pontificating, narcissists on these posts bragging about what degrees they've attained, when clearly a base IQ is not in their repertoire of academic achievements. Granted, Mr. Jones' ranting didn't win him any popularity votes with the centrist / leftist crowd, most of what he said was 'spot-on.' Fact is most people want to keep sleeping. He could have certainly toned down his rants and answered the questions as he is well capable of doing. To educate oneself in issues like the history of governments, societal behaviors,the repression of the populace and insidious forces working within a greater context would place us a stone's throw of what is happening in the United States today. What Mr. Jones is saying, to anyone possessing a cogent mind, a proficient reading level and basic research skills would seem as Sherlock Holmes coined 'elementary.' If you think America and most of the western world is not in trouble, then perhaps you should keep watching Piers Morgan and ask him for advice when he returns to Great Britain after his and your liberties have been stripped away. Research indicates that in societies that have been overtaken by a 'Regime' change, the populace has been DISARMED. Ask most of Europe about their gun laws when the fascists came to power in the 1930's. Do your research, then say something of substance.
It is very easy to cherry pick information that you agree with and simply reject the rest but you must take a broader look at life. You should travel outside of the USA and talk more to people who are more global in their outlook.

Mr. Pipi, all of those countries used propaganda as a tool to deceive the masses but they were armatures compared to the propaganda going on now. It appears that almost all of the media, is primarily an arm of the Democratic party, however while the two parties have stated differences, there is not much real difference. Both of the parties have managed to divide the majority of the people into "party" camps and while we pick our favorite party and argue with those in the other camp, the members of the parties are basically doing what they want. It's not hard to own Piers Morgan on a 2nd Amendment debate. The fact of the matter is Piers won the debate by not saying a word. Jones doesn't know what the word debate means. In fact he probably doesn't know the meaning of most words. All Jones did was make 2nd Amendment supporters like myself look bad. I think Alex actually did a good job, he just got too upset. Well, as a former soldier and Iraq war veteran, I can tell there are three things the modern government is good at: spending money, using bureaucracy and legal power to control people, and killing people (often indiscriminately). Alex had some valid points regarding the purpose of the 2nd amendment, yet I think it was a mistake for him to get so upset on TV. He is right though, there are millions of Americans who would die before surrendering their weapons, and I am one of them. If all of these people calling for an assault weapons ban believe that the government can issue an edict and expect all gun owners to comply, they are in for a rude awakening. A government that passed the Patriot Act, the NDAA provision with indefinite detention of American citizens, FISA warrantl-ess wiretapping, and one that kills people with drone strikes around the globe without any due process, is truly a force to be feared and distrusted. Right now armed resistance is unthinkable, yet things could rapidly deteriorate due to the economy or some other global crisis, and we could have rioting and martial law. 9/11/01 killed several thousand people, and look how the government responded: destruction of civil rights and several destructive wars, including the GLOBAL war on terror. Imagine what would happen if tens of thousands died in a much larger attack? There would be absolute chaos and martial law. People would be in the streets losing their minds. I'm not prepared to lock my doors and pray that the police or the military come and save me before my home is ransacked and my family killed. If history teaches us anything, it is not "if" the next crisis occurs, but "when".
Guns are the great equalizer. Without guns, the bullies and criminals always have the upper hand. Imagine if our forefathers decided to turn over their weapons to the British, trusting that someday the Monarchy would get its act together and start treating people the right way.

The existing background check worked in Connecticut, which has more restrictive laws than other states. The perp tried to buy a weapon but was refused. He stole weapons from his mother. Now what new law could have possible prevented this tragedy? We are all saddened by these tragedies, but punishing everyone for the deeds of a few will not solve the problem.

It's funny. You do not hear people calling for the legalization of the Thompson submachine gun or the Browning automatic rifle. Banning the big AR15 type guns is pointless now. Those types of guns have been sold millions of times since 2004 when the ban was lifted so the damage is done.
What needs to be done is ask the gun owners _POLITELY_ to register them if they haven't. Making a law or demanding it is only going to cause the public panic and no one will do it and hide everything they own.
Piers Morgan is trying desperately to resurrect his popularity and make himself more valuable to CNN by bringing in more viewers. That's why he had Mr. Alex Jones on and Mr. Jones, of course, is going to be very passionate about guns. Very smart move on Morgan's part.

But Piers Morgan has virtually no understanding of the culture of the U.S. (For that matter, neither does does Barack Obama.) For him to be critical of U.S. culture is absolutely unacceptable. I live in Canada and I can attest to you that even Canadians have very little understanding of U.S. culture. (In fact, that little understanding has morphed into rampant anti-Americanism, much like Obama's anti-Americanism.) In Canada, it is unheard of for the average citizen to own a gun, except for target shooting and protection on farms. An essential part of U.S. culture is guns, most of which the rest of the world cannot understand just as much as most of the world doesn't understand, for example, Turkish Whirling Dervishes. Guns have been part of U.S. history from before its Revolution. Taking away an American's guns, or even infringing upon their ownership, is equivalent to taking away his car and forcing him to ride a bicycle to work. Yes, guns make it easier to hurt and even kill many people at one time as opposed to, say, a knife. Yes, some of the guns we have today are incredibly sophisticated in their ability to kill as opposed to the types of guns used during the Revolutionary times. But what that means is that guns must be handled with the utmost respect and care by every legitimate owner.
The solution is that each of us needs to take responsibility for our handling of guns:
1. Hollywood has to stop glorifying guns. They make megabucks from gun movies.
2. Video games have to stop glorifying guns. They also make megabucks from shooter games.
3. People have to handle their guns as if they were dynamite ready to go off at the least mishandling or misuse.

He also should have prepared an educated response for the gun murders questions of which he knew was coming. Giving up your guns does not guarantee your security Mr. Morgan. It does however guarantee you will not have a legitimate defensive weapon if you need it!

I'm a Canadian and a gun owner; but, our guns are shotguns/ rifles that shoot one bullet at a time... kind of like the guns used back when the 2nd Amendment was ratified from the Bill of Rights in 1791. The guns we use are for hunting, and, protection of our livestock. Back in 1791, there were no such guns that could shoot multiple rounds per minute. A musket had to be reloaded, plus add the gunpowder, so at most you would get 3 shots per minute. I'm all for you Americans having those types of guns...but, when you see whack jobs like Alex Jones with 50 assault weapons, using his 2nd Amendment rights as a reason...we all should be worried!!!
So since the 2nd Amendment only applies to single shot weapons like the colonial day Americans had and we get "3 shots per minute" as you said, perhaps the 1st Amendment only applies to the written and spoken word...kind of like the press/media they used back in 1791. Russell, I own many guns of different types and none of them have killed anyone all by themselves. However, when 4 ninja-dressed perps with Glocks used a battering ram to take my front door down at 3 am, they discovered that it was their last crime. It was later determined that all of them had extensive criminal records, including armed robberies. Gun laws didn't prevent them from getting their hands on some expensive weapons because they don't obey them. So we need more laws to make the honest person go through more hoops to legally (because we do obey laws) buy a gun? That is what ridiculous.

I actually wonder why this Alex Jones person feels so paranoid. If he has as many followers as Morgan stated, and upon inspecting his site and youtube, it appears he does, surely he would have more than enough finances to hire his own security. He most likely got rich peddling paranoia and now he hopefully has the financial ability to hide in a bunker from his fabricated boogeymen. I would hope he would do just that.
I've begun to wonder why someone like Morgan was placed on this show? Is it because he's an obedient worker who says exactly what he's paid to say?. The most disturbing thing about him is his role of the "calm, rational man" while making doubly sure at all times to make sure that his more passionate guests (such as Alex Jones) are made to appear "fanatical" or "crazy." Notice how, after Jones left, Morgan discussed the interview with someone else, making, as i already said, doubly sure that Jones would be seen as mentally unbalanced by as many viewers as possible. Notice how during the interview, Morgan appears to actually be paying attention to Jones – but in fact, he was simply waiting for the man to finish talking so that he himself could insert "his own" commentaries (meaning the commentaries that were written for him). And of course, there were those viewers who were duped, which is obvious from the comments that were left here: They obediently saw Jones as being an unbalanced, crazy man, or full of hate, etc., just as they have been guided (by Morgan's comments) to see him. Morgan is manipulative in the extreme in that "I'm-a-calm-and-rational-man" act of his. His quietness is rather eerie, and it would appear that that quietness is deliberate, something he uses as a tool to show how "reasonable" he is, he uses it to make any guest who displays normal human emotions (such as passion) appear "extreme." Tonight, Morgan made no sense – nothing new for him – and Jones made perfect sense. Far too many Americans are all too willing to "roll over," to give up their rights and their guns on command. No doubt the ratings were high tonight, and that's what's important, but it is also important to Morgan (if he wants to keep his job), to make freedom fighters like Jones appear "looney tunes." And of course, Morgan "hits below the belt" by discussing Jones after Jones was no longer there to defend himself. You just have to win all the time, don't you Morgan? ...

I have listened to the discussion several times, and the transcript is good. There are a some segments that are off putting being too aggressive, but this discussion is laden with facts that I hope can come out of this.
Piers should have started asking that traitor Alex Jones if he is a member of a WHITE SUPREMACISTS Group, getting funding from NRA and gun manufacturers and other radical terrorist groups of the GOP, because he does exactly what those terrorists do scream, yell, and attempt to frighten people to hear their squeaky broken wheel rattling ...their way and terrorize.

So I'm not exactly a fan of Alex Jones, but I'm def not a fan of Piers Morgan either. I have no idea WHY Piers Morgan thinks he can speak for USA. While I'm not a fan of weapons all over the place, I understand the reason we preserve the 2nd Amendment. I thought Alex Jones was funny when he called Piers a Redcoat who wanted to take American guns. Pretty funny.
Also thought Alex Jones point about Prozac & 'suicide pills' seemed quite accurate.
Lastly, Alex Jones said that 9/11 was an inside job. Piers attempted to make that part of his 'hatchet job' on Alex Jones. But I have seen no evidence from Bush/Cheney proving that Osama Bin Laden and the hijackers knocked down WTC towers or Building 7. I find the blocked and botched investigation to be evidence for an inside job rather than evidence of a foreign attack. Alex Jones made that point quite well.
While Piers Morgan doesn't seem to have any stances except on gun control, I wondered at Alex Jones accusations of Piers Morgan's iimplication in the phone hacking scandal.
Last point - I deeply miss Larry King and am saddened that Piers Morgan is our replacement. He's inferior, a horrible interviewer, and generally lacking. Where Larry King had backbone and personal quality, Piers Morgan has a stiff upper lip, a tendency to cower, and an inability to show any heart ... b/c he's a corporate sell-out to the core. Its very sad, but it's what CNN wants in the drivers seat.

I would really like to hear some brilliant ideas from the anti-gun fanatics. Connecticut has more stringent gun laws than most other states. The shooter tried to buy a gun and was turned down. Anti-gun nuts want background checks. We already have federal background checks and waiting periods. And they worked. It kept the idiot form buying a gun. So what did he do? He stole guns from his mom. Now tell me, what new gun law would have kept guns out of his hands? infringing on the rights of many for the actions of a few is absurd. Some of the idiotic ideas out there will only serve to make it more difficult for us law-abiding citizens to legally buy guns. I have a concealed carry permit and my gun is like my American Express Card. I never leave home without it.
I love how illiterate the far right are. The fact is that only 40% of gun owners go through background checks due to loopholes such as gun show loopholes which don't require background checks.
Before calling me illiterate, you should get your facts straight. It is actually the other way around the; 60% of the gun sales are legally done in gun shops and by dealers at gun shows, which must pass background checks. Most of us have no problem with the background checks. That three day wait is not a big deal. The problem is most of the ideas being proposed by those on the left will infringe on the rights of law-abiding people and do little to stop the criminal. It amazes me that none of the suggestions so far will solve this problem. Requiring background checks at gun shows, which most of us would have no issue with, might help but criminals have other ways to still get what they want.It's better to come up with meaningful suggestions than resort to name calling and spewing inaccurate statistics. But the name-calling rant is the way of the left. None of the nasty rhetoric does anything to help the problem.

I may be in for a beating coming from the UK but it seems to me that the debate is being hijacked by Mr Jones and the extreme gun lobby group. As a foreigner I appreciate the importance of the 2nd amendment to the majority of the American people but the fact remains that the debate is not its removal but to apply common sense in its interpretation. The simple question being posed is this, does it make sense that military assault weapons with high capacity rounds belong on the streets of a civilized society. The position offered by Mr Jones is mute and exalts the rhetoric of fear to influence the easily led by suggesting that guns will be taken away.

I always suspect the use of the word period as it suggests that there is nothing for debate and is often used by those with entrenched and extreme views. I must admit that I am not an expert on assault rifles or otherwise but I have been in the US and gone to gun ranges etc and was amazed at what you can buy. I appreciate they may not be fully automatic but how many rounds can they fire in a minute without the need to reload. When you answer that question that is the number of assailants that you can defend yourself against. I then ask that people who need to potentially maim more than three people in defence are deluded. Why is it necessary to have anything other than single leader weapons by that I mean revolver or bolt action rifle. You might be amazed but you can own shotguns in the UK and even pump action but the number of rounds are limited to three in this instance. I live in a country were I can go out and not be in fear of prolific gun ownership where the mentally ill or criminal groups can easily get hold of weapons and I mean easily. It is this definition I apply when I talk about a civilised society. I can see no evidence of the world going to hell other than environmental concerns.

Firstly, people who are proponents of the second amendment should look at when the law was written and whether it is still relevant to today's society.
Secondly, these same people should benchmark America's gun laws to the whole world and see how ridiculously high the statistics for gum related crimes are. America is not the middle kingdom (there is no middle kingdom) and Americans should benchmark themselves to the world instead of only comparing the past and present in America. I am a Canada mother who was asked by my teenage boys after the school shooting "why do they even have guns in their homes? because to us it is a totally foreign concept??" We here in Canada don't understand why anyone would want those weapons in our homes because we never have and as such our country doesn't have these debates and constant news of mass killings with massive weapons. We are a sister country to the US and I'm only a few hours away from the boarder. I commend Piers on his efforts and like other parents in our little town in Ontario believe that guns don't belong in homes.

I just watched the interview between Alex Jones and Pierce Morgan. I had never heard of Alex Jones prior to today, but after watching his interview with Pierce I can draw the conclusion that Alex Jones is a rude, loud and insulting individual and his behaviour toward Pierce and along with Jone's outlandish ramblings did nothing to further the argument from gun lobby advocates. Pierce handled himself well and when Alex took to mocking Pierce's accent that in my opinion is at the top of ignorance and disrespect. I quite enjoyed that Pierce did not get hooked into Jone's off the wall diatribes. As a Canadian I enjoy what the U.S. as to offer but when it comes to the gun debate I agree with the anti gun lobbyists that America does have too many guns. As a retired police officer I am in a position to comment that we do have less gun violence in Canada, a big factor is the fact that there are less guns in Canada for people to commit mass acts of violence. I can say we are not immune to mass murder, I will just point out per capita we have less gun violence. The U.S. is a great country, but I do not envy the right to bear arms as something I would want in Canada.
Of course Canada has less gun violence or any type of violence for the matter, because Canada has only a fraction of the population of the USA..

I saw the whole interview last night. I am so happy that Alex Jones was on such a public forum, as I have never heard him before. If there is any argument for stricter gun laws, it is what I saw in the interview.
Mr Jones was ranting and using incendiary speech not only against Piers Morgan, but against the U.S. government. It was clear from what he said that the reason he owns"50" firearms, is because he is preparing for an uprising against the government. I knew the outcome of this interview. If the four woman on the View could not handle him I knew Piers wasn't going to get a word in. But definitely entertaining. I was hoping for the "How many times have you been properly i nlove Alex?" but maybe next time.
You don't need 50 guns to protect yourself. Only a select few to be able to protect yourself. I have 4 firearms, which I selected to keep my family safe. And I warn any trespassers who wish to enter my property unlawfully. "If you can read this, you're in range" I have 3 categories of firearms. 1: I have a Winchester model 70 in 30-06. The 30-06 round was made famous in WWII with the M1 Garand. This is for long distance. 2: Then I have my Bushmaster in .223 to handle closer in encounters. 3&4: I have my FN Five-Seven and my wife has a Taurus 24-7 in .45 CAP. She is former military and I am just an enthusiast who had a father who was a Marine during WWII and a Drill Sergeant after the war. He taught me to respect and how to use firearms. I teach my children the same principals he taught me. My 12 Year old at the time I taught to shoot my Winchester, I had targets set up at 200 yds. He was down to his last shot and I said make it count. He put that last round right between the silhouettes eyes. This is how you teach kids about weapons. And I always tell them, "Gun Control" is hitting your target.

Maybe you should teach your kids how to respect the firearms you DID have. Yes my kids safety is of utmost importance. I teach them how to respect, load and fire the weapons I have. Gun control advocates, like to use Britain as a poster candidate to demonstrate that gun control works. While they like to point out that gun murders are low, as a result of strict laws and a virtual gun ban, what they don`t like to say about gunless Britain is that the violent crime rate is one of the highest in the Western World, and that the overall murder rate is one of the highest in Western Europe. By comparison most of Britain`s Western European neighbors are some of the largest gun owning nations in the world, and yet these nations have some of the lowest violent crime and homicide rates on the planet. The Swiss, on a per capita basis, privately own nearly 8 times as many guns as the British, many of which are automatic assault rifles, and the Germans and French by comparison privately own nearly 5 times as many guns, and yet the overall murder rate in these three countries is nearly 40% lower than Britain`s. So if we believe what Piers Morgan is inferring, that more guns mean higher murder rates, why don`t these three countries, given that they have significantly more guns in circulation, have substantially higher murder rates than Britain?
According to the UN, the Swiss, Germans and French are ranked 3rd, 4th and 5th respectively in world in terms of private gun ownership. By comparison Britain is ranked 88th! (Swiss: 45.7 guns/100 people, Germany: 30.3 guns/100, France: 31.2 guns/100 vs. Britain: 6.7 guns/100 people).
What is driving violence in some countries, and not others, should be the question being asked, as it is clear in some large gun owning nations that guns are not the problem. Maybe we should look at the media’s role in perpetuating this cycle of violence, the 24 hour news media, Hollywood and violent video games, in addition to a possible link to some of the antidepressants that have been prescribed to many of the people who have committed these atrocities.

Agreed, we should be focusing on the cause rather than the object. These senseless killings will continue to happen until we get to the root of the problem. The most recent FBI stats reveal that out of the 13,000 annual homicides committed that just over 300 (3%) of them were committed with rifles or shotguns. Interestingly, most gun homicides are committed with handguns. Banning semiautomatic sporting rifles, or restricting the number of bullets a magazine can hold won't prevent these tragedies from occuring again. Our politicians are just sadly playing lip service to the problem.

That's why if you read my first post you'll see that I have used per capita numbers. If guns are the problem, why do most of Britain's close large gun owning European neighbors have homicide rates that are 40% lower? Please explain then based on these per capita numbers where the correlation is between high levels of gun ownership and homicides. Based on your premise that more guns mean more homicides, then the Swiss, Germans, French, Spanish and Italians would all have significantly higher murder rates than Britain, but they don't, they are all lower! Whether you like it or not you are more likely to get murdered or violently mugged in gunless Britain, than in any of these other large gun owning European countries.

Mr. Morgan, You cling to your 35 gun deaths in England, what about the 11,227 people in 2011 that were robbed, beaten and r*p*d at gun point? Do these people not count because they didn't die due to a gun shot? That number is just from England and Wales, and was published by your House of Commons. That number comes from SN/SG/1940 last updated 30 January 2012.
I would also like to know if your gun control laws are working so well, why are UK police signing up in droves to aquire body armor that United States police and federal agencies are donating to your country. If there such a low chance of them being shot in the line of duty then why do so many of them feel that they need body armor?
What disturbs me the most about your country's gun control laws is that a man can be jailed for defending himself and his positions. You have a fellow in your jails that was put their because he shot two men who broke into his home, he killed one and wounded the other. Your country jailed him for defending himself. Based on this, your saying it is perfectly alright for some one to break into someones house and take that which they have not worked for or earn. Nothing wrong with doing that. But if you try to defend yourself your a criminal. Doesn't sound like a world that I would like to live in.
That is just stupid to say something like that. I am sure the guy in jail is there because of having an illegal firearm. There are laws in America that will put you in jail for defending yourself or your home. For instance, you can not set a lethal trap. I am sure there is more to the story than you have pointed out. The man chased the thieves from his home with his shotgun. He was tried for murder and it was reduced to manslaughter. Those are the "crimes" he did time for, I watched an interview with him. His home had been robbed several times before and the police were no help to stopping it because of how remote he was from town.
The way I see it is if your foolish enough to break into someone's home you deserve what you get, anything else is ruling in favor of the criminal, how is that justice? Any time that more thought is given to the person who did the breaking in or robbing or violating of someone than then victim a great injustice is done law abiding citizens everywhere.
The same applies to the proposed gun bans. They don't affect criminals, criminals don't follow the law, that is why they are criminals. 54 million law abiding gun owners didn't shoot anyone yesterday. Why should their rights be stripped?
What most people are really missing about all of this is it is stripping freedom of the individual, freedom of choice. Once you start letting people tell you how you can live in one way they will start telling you how to live in other ways. Look at NYC, They have decided to ban sugary drinks larger than 16oz because it's the sugary drinks fault that people are fat. Taking away freedom of choice is the most un-American thing that one can do.
In NYC the police have taken up going into poor neighborhoods and stopping and searching people at random. Last time I checked being poor wasn't enough probable cause to for go the need of a warrant. But no one really cares because its just the poor people even though only 4 in 100 of those searches produce anything, 96 people have their rights violated because of where they live.
Also do you really think that no "assault" weapons will come into the country if they are banned? If that were true the bulk of the drugs that litter our streets all across the country wouldn't be here. Like I said before bans only affect law abiding citizens.
In the end when you look at the big picture what this boils down to is taking freedom of choice from law abiding citizen, something that should never be done.

Ken, I feel for you, sir. My state has whats called Castle Doctrine. Any place that has anything less than this is taking the criminals side. Once a person decides they are going break the law and force their way in to someone else's home or business I have no sympathy for their injury or death.
The Castle Doctrine's important bits reads as follows.
Defense of habitation; (here habitation means dwelling, motor vehicle, or place of business) A person is justified in the use of force which is intended or likely to cause death or great bodily harm only if:
1. A person is breaking\has broken into your home in a violent and tumultuous manner, and you think that the intruder is going to assault you or someone else living there.
2. A person who is not a member of the family or household and who unlawfully and forcibly enters the residence and you know it is an unlawful entry.
3. The person using such force reasonably believes that the entry is made or attempted for the purpose of committing a felony therein and that such force is necessary to prevent the commission of the felony.
Basically, the way it works out is don't shoot them in the back, don't chase them after they leave the home.
As long as the police and DA see that you didn't go above and beyond those rules you won't even be tried.
From what I am reading on Ohio laws you have basically the same thing, except if your in public i.e. your car or something you have to try to get away before using deadly force. The main difference is in Ohio you have to go to trial to prove that they were breaking into your home and it was self-defense. DA's and police often let criminals go due to not enough evidence to convict, why bother with a trial with the evidence clearly shows self-defense, its a waste of taxpayers money, IMHO.
Ian – In OH., the rules apply the same as in the home has in public. If your house is being broken into, and you are home,
and you are being broken into with sole intent of robbery, not bodily harm, then you are obligated to let them rob you and not use deadly force to stop them. That's why it's called the gulp test because you have to allow them to show intent of not just bod-ally harm, but killing you, before you can react in the same manner....that is pulling the trigger....and then if you have your weapon out, whose to say the intruder was only defending his life? Honor your Castle Law as it is precious.
Wow.. Ken... I would move. I couldn't live some place that puts criminal rights so far above the victim's. I mean the next step from that is "hey breaking and entering and theft are legal, so long as you don't hurt the residents." I can't even begin to understand how someone could think that laws like that are logical. It basically says to criminals, "hey ,it's ok to steal just don't hurt anyone."
It actually makes complete and total sense. Theft should not result in death. The punishment does not fit the crime. There is no court that would sentence a person to death for stealing, so it stands to reason that it is not ok to shoot someone who is burglarizing your home. Call the police and follow the due process. The police are not allowed to shoot shoplifters. Sometimes the shoplifter gets away because we do NOT shoot people for stealing. Why should it be any different if someone breaks into your home to steal?
I never heard of Alex Jones before this, and I agree that he got a little carried away, but was glad that he gave Piers a taste of his own medicine. Piers has been rude to past guests to include yelling at them and calling them names and Alex turned the tables on him and he didn't like it. Piers didn't yell at or call him names because he was scared and caught off guard. If Piers doesn't like it here then he should go home.

A friend of mine in an unprovoked attack was beaten to his life and still hasn't physically and emotionally recovered from the ordeal. They came at him with a knife! Coming from a gun-free country, my initial inclination leans toward strict gun-control, especially banning assault weapons, but if it means only bad people who won’t comply with the law are going to have them, it gives me pause. It makes me rethink when I see a study like ‘A chance of being murdered with a gun in Washington DC, which has enacted a number of strict gun-restriction laws, is 1 in 6,250, compared to 1 in 31,348 in Texas.’, I feel like I have to give a pro-gun perspective due consideration. Let’s bring all the data and statistics from both sides of the arguments, and let us analyze them intelligently.

One more point, you don't need a gun to kill someone. You can commit murder with a knife, screwdriver, hammer, rope, pantyhose, pillow, lamp, stick, sword, throwing stars, piece of glass, chop sticks, ink pen, or even your bare hands. Guns are not the problem if someone really wants to kill someone they will find away. Look how many people were killed (according to official story) with a box knife used to take over a plane and kill all those people. If people get in accidents at high speeds cars are not banned, limitations may be enacted. You can't drive 120 mph. You can't drive 95 mph. If limitations are placed so that one has smaller capacity ammo clips that isn't banning guns. When they test cars and find that a particular car flips at 50 mph and they change the car that isn't banning cars. If people don't have access to machine guns that is a limit it is not taking away all guns everywhere.

I think that we do it for everyone who wants to have a driver's license. After all, while a motor vehicle may not be designed to kill, it is still 1-3 tons of metal, plastic, glass, and explosive fuel capable of moving at relatively incredible velocities; you can even fill up plastic tanks with more fuel and carry them in the back, or modify the car to have a larger gas tank, larger engine, or heavy, more all-terrain wheels. A car can get a lot of places and potentially kill a lot of people.
But it's not designed to be a weapon... of course! How could I be so stupid? Because it's not designed to be a weapon, it's perfectly ok for someone with psychiatric issues to use! Why don't we let anyone who's passed a couple of classes and could snap at any time (argument against legal gun ownership) operate 2 tons of machinery capable of going 180 miles per hour!
On that note, the fastest highway speed limit in America is 85 miles per hour. Why does the car need to go 180? Let's put limiters on that. And we don't want a big explosion if the gas tank gets ruptured, so we should definitely limit the size of that. Drunk driving and texting while driving are still big issues, so why don't we make every car have a Faraday cage built into the chassis to disable cellular signals, and a breathalyzer hooked up to the ignition to stop it from working if you're drunk? Yeah! Safety first! I mean, anyone with a little mechanical and electrical knowledge can uninstall a limiter, install a new gas tank, disable the charge of the Faraday cage, and get someone else to blow the breathalyzer for them, but it's illegal! Someone would have to be some sort of criminal to do that!

You gained so much respect from me last night. I applaud you for welcoming on differing views and frankly, it was brilliant to let Mr. Jones show his true colors. Sit back and let him go. Sadly, he was so worked up that it was incredibly difficult to follow any of his rants. By the end, I'm not sure who is "good" and who is "bad." Why is it that we cannot have a civil, balanced conversation, showing all perspectives? Lets take in different POVs and find a solution that is reasonable. Should we take the comments of a "passport holding" man that is not an actual citizen of the US? He says in the interview, his "2nd ammendment". He has no 2nd ammendment. Unless he is refering to a British one, (doubt it would be the same as ours). It really is a simple matter. If you don't like guns, don't buy one. If you feel really, really deeply about it, stop associating with people that have guns. Just because YOU don't like them, don't expect everyone to feel the same as you. As in religion. The problem stems from the parents. Growing up in the 70's and 80's, we didn't have all of these electronics devices that distract us. Most everyone I know, (of course, there are exceptions), had dinner at home, with their parents, free of distractions. If you were a messed up kid, it was pretty easy to tell. Nowadays, parents don't take an active role in their kids lives. How is a parent supposed to know if their kid is deranged, if the kid, (and most time, the parents), have their faces plated in a cell phone or computer?
Time for the all of the "parents" out there to start stepping up and taking responsibility for their kids. Just because you have kids doesn't mean you can be a parent. But, sadly, the parents will not do this. In fact, unfortunetly, I feel it will get worse. As long as everyone keeps villainizing the gun. It IS a good scapegoat for the parents, though. They probably feel better knowing the scent has been thrown off to other issues.

Societal rules are what keeps my family safe. I have never had and doubt I ever will have occasion to use my gun in self defense. And a gun is no guarantee of safety......it is the rules that govern our society that keeps me and my family safe. I believe our country is long overdue to do something about gun control.

Sitting at lunch the other day we noticed several people with guns strapped to their belt and we felt "less free" and wondered if paranoia and fear are the new America. The statistics from every country of the world, not just Britain, all speak the obvious and we just can't be this dumb as a nation. History proves that governments can become corrupt and people will die fighting for there lives it has happens over and over again because people don't believe it will happen and they trust the people in government. I live in Australia and some 20 years ago Martin Bryant walked into a cafe and gunned down 35 people in Tasmania. Our Prime Minister (ie American President in your country) decided on a gun amnesty. Every Australian handed back their guns and now I can say we have barely had a gun related murder equivalent to the Tasmanian mass murder. Australia certainly doesnt have the problems of USA, i can walk any street at night without fear of being killed or robbed. The world is laughing at the USA congress who cannot make a simple decision to ban guns despite their own people continually killing each other, not just in mass murders but daily with individuals. The USA has the highest gun related deaths outside of a war zone than any other country in the world, how tragic. Alex Jones has made his people & many people he represents to look absolutely stupid, I mean is he serious or CRAZY! Is he the next mass murderer in USA he seems so passionate about guns & killing people, what a PSYCHO! Piers was citing statistics on gun 'victims', which is around 11,000 in the US., not gun related deaths. The total gun related deaths in the US was almost 30,000! This includes accidents and suicide. Some 10 years ago Alex Jones was a minor celebrity on cable access TV in Austin. At the same time I was the director and producer for my church's weekly program on public access TV. To maintain your credentials to use Austin's public access TV you must attend instructional meetings on a wide range of topics including technical and in the case I am about to recount legal requirements for use of material on TV. For example, things like obtaining releases from musical talent and the line between televising something that is public vs. private. The meeting was scheduled from 10 to noon on a Saturday morning. Mr. Jones was combative with the instructor from the moment he began to talk. Mr. Jones voiced his opinion as fact on every topic. The poor instructor could barely get out a sentence without Mr. Jones making the topic about his views. Perhaps that works for a minor, local celebrity but on the national stage nothing seems to have changed for Mr. Jones. He appears to me to be more interested in voicing his views and winning an argument than being the least bit thoughtful. I doubt he can order a cheese toast sandwich in a restaurant without debating the waiter.
So, my opinion of Mr. Jones and his style of discourse is in my view the problem with guns, abortion and many other topics we face today. But, I doubt shouting and interrupting and bullying will solve any of them. But, our media feeds on this type of debate. It doesn't matter if you are talking about CNN, MSNBC, Fox or any of the Sunday morning news shows. I am woefully tied of it. It is time for it to stop. It will only stop when you turn it off. If you want change. If you want your view integrated into our social landscape, go to your local precinct meetings. Get involved in some cause at the grass roots level. But please don't give any more energy to this garbage that is passed off as news and commentary and then suddenly becomes "its just entertainment" when it results in something bad like a participants suicide. Please, I am begging you!

Charles, I think you've hit on the key point about people like Jones – he states every opinion as fact. The psychology of people like him is that they have an overwhelming need to be thought of (by others and themselves) as the ONLY ones who know "the truth."

That's exactly right! And I was one of the silent ones before Newtown. Then I made it my New Years Resolution to no longer be silent and to speak up loud and often. It is only a small minority of fanatics that want easy availability of weapons of mass destruction like AR-15s and high capacity clips. The rest of the sane country, gun owners and non-gun owners want rational regulation of these weapons. It does not mean responsible hunters and owners of regular guns (e.g., non-military, people killing weapons) will lose their guns. It just means that we want to stop the access to these horrible weapons that never should have been allowed on the street in the first place. It means that people who value the lives of innocent children and the 30,000 annual victims of gun crime more than being able to rip off 50 rounds without changing clips want to get sanity back into our gun laws and regulations.
Gun fanatics constantly proclaim that the government is trying to take away their "right" to bear arms. It is time that those of us who advocate improved measures of control over gun ownership proclaim our rights. Do we not have the right to life and liberty as much as a gun owner has the right to concealed carry? If my neighbor has automatic weapons in his/her house, do I not have the right to know this so that I can make my own decision about allowing my child to enter that house? It is going to take the grassroots work of parents and grandparents to get gun reform addressed. Our biggest obstacle is not these lunatics like Alex Jones; it is the NRA with their huge amount of wealth. But NRA members are also parents and grandparents, and they are not all nut jobs like Alex Jones. We cannot endure more slaughter of our children. We have an illness, and we need to take our medicine and get gun reform laws. Most of us Americans are not like Alex Jones. If you are listening to the news today, it looks like parents and grandparents put the squeeze on Wal-Mart. This morning, good ole Wal-Mart was "too busy" to attend the gun reform task force meeting with Joe Biden at the White House. But within a couple of hours of that announcement, the changed their minds and have said they will attend. Wal-Mart says they did not realize the expectations that they attend the meeting. I am betting that they were reminded of the "expectation" by hordes of parents and grandparents. Anyone who is unwilling to help solve the problem is part of problem!

This gun debate is so foreign to me, I can't understand it for the life of me. Why does anybody need guns? I'm not sure how this equates to more freedom. The only thing guns do is lead to 11000-12000 murders per year in the US.
Just look at any other civilized country in the world (Canada, UK, Germany, etc) and how they handle guns. More gun control = less gun violence, as smple as that!
And I don't see any of the citizens of these countries having less freedom. I will never understand it, as most people in the rest of the civilized world cannot understand it.

Personally I'd like to keep the 2nd and 1st amendments if you don't mind! Once they take the 2nd amendment, it will only be a matter of time before they take the 1st and like so many in the past, the only thing left will be to submit or suffer the consequences!
Quite frankly the only one of our ill of rights that has not been infringed upon is the quartering of soldiers in our homes. There are examples of every other amendment being violated. The patriot act and the NDAA made sure of that. There are thousands of laws and statutes on the books in every state that infringe our right every day. The politicians don't care about us they only care about the power they posses. They will never get away with taking our second amendment without resistance. They know this and that is why they will pass some sort of executive order or bill full of loop holes like they always do.
Now I understand why folks like you are so against gun control. One of the key elements is to keep guns out of the hands of lunatics, so you would clearly have your guns taken away. Wow, this Jones guys is scary! I live in Canada, so you know where we stand on guns. I never had a gun, and never plan to own one. Don't need a gun since I live in a safe neighbourhood and our streets are safe. What a novel idea, most people don't have guns! So I don't need a gun to protect myself from other people!!
