Alex Jones on guns in America: "The Republic will rise again when you attempt to take our guns"

Tonight, Piers Morgan returned to the host's chair and addressed the official White House petition created to deport the British television journalist and television host.

Alex Jones, co-creator of the petition, joined Morgan live in studio as he explained why he wants Morgan deported. "We did it to point out that this is globalism and the mega banks that control the planet and brag that they've taken over in Bloomberg, AP, Reuters, you name it, brag that they are going to get our guns as well."

During the interview, Jones defended his view of gun rights and ownership stating "The Second Amendment isn't there for duck hunting, it's there to protect us from tyrannical government and street thugs."

Jones also supported his view of "more guns less crime" by referring to the recent violent crime of gang rape in India. "You can't ban the iron rods, the guns, the iron rods, Piers, didn't do it. The tyrants did it."

"1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms," Jones passionately claimed. "Doesn't matter how many lemmings you get out there on the street begging for them to have their guns taken from them. We will not relinquish them, do you understand?"

"The establishment knows no matter how much propaganda, the Republic will rise again when you attempt to take our guns."

Watch clip and listen to the heated interview as Jones tells Morgan, "don't try to do what your ancestors did before."

    1. In Marc Lepine's case the media focused on an Arab Father, while the sociologists, the experts, focused on homelessness. (racial discrimination and prejudice)

    2. In Adam Lanza's case the media focused on Mental Illness, while the experts claim that this was not the cause. (discrimination against the mentally ill and prejudice)

A well armed population is hard to oppress, and can be scary for oppressors. (Marie Antoinette)

The stereotypes and abuse are linked to denial, bullying, mobbing, workplace psychological harassment, and criminal harassment networks* aka organized crime. Organized crime is causing these rage shootings, and advocates a defenseless population through stereotypes and rhetoric that is easier to repress and oppress .

Well, though I admit I periodically listen to Alex, I will say he did nothing but embarrass himself and his cause with this. I strongly agree with Mr. Jones that the 2nd amendment is a right we should protect. I believe Mr. Jones ranting like a mad man instead of intelligently defeating Piers Morgan like Larry Pratt did will hurt the cause of protecting liberty. I for one will not turn in my firearms, our ancestors fought for us to have the right to own firearms to protect ourselves and our families. The claim that we don't "need" to own a firearm is just silly, we don't "need" a 20 piece mcnugget from Mcdonalds but we arn't banning those are we? I want to my firearms, I paid money for them, I have the right to own them, I've never caused harm with them to another human, and therefor I will not turn them in.

dave...last time i checked, someone buying mcnuggets from mcdonalds doesn't kill 20 6 year olds in 5 minutes

Actually, I have to disagree with you sir, though the Mcnuggets don't kill kids in 20 minutes, obesity is a growing epidemic, and is a serious health risk for our children, obesity related diseases do infact kill us, and our children. My simple point is I'm a law abiding citizen, who would not dream of causing harm to another human, are you stating that a few mentally ill people should cause me to lose my rights? I refuse to give up a right due to the actions of other people, I know myself, and my intentions, and I know that I mean no harm to anyone, I don't even hunt, I like shooting, as a sport, I enjoy it.

I agree. Very dissapointed with Alex's showing. He is important to society and he does spread the word and whatever truth he finds. However, CNN was a great opportunity to create a valid argument to the wihkd be gun gasbbers that watch main stream news, but Alex took the bait and ranted like a maniac. Its one thing to carry on to your regular listeners but to get the message out to the rest of America would have taken more restraint and tact. Alex looked insane and Piers played along. They took this opportunity to discredit a revolutionary and even questioned his sanity and ability to own his firearms. Very dissapointed with the Alex that showed up.

Yeh, Alex totally took the bait. He sounded a like a jerk (wild donkey). I knew before I watched it that Piers was going to pull the truther card to make him look totally crazy to non-truther viewers. Oh, and what was that British accent crap that Alex pulled. I think Alex Jones will lose some regular viewers/listeners over this...then again...maybe not.

You're comparing apples and oranges...yes, nuggets are causing obesity and malnutrition in kids that could lead to death, but they're not designed to kill massive amounts of people in a short period of time. Also, parents can avoid obesity in kids by monitoring their diet. There isn't much a parent can do when their kid is getting shot up in school. No one wants to take away your rights to own firearms, but just because we have the 2nd amendment it doesn't mean that there shouldn't be some guidelines and limitations (even the 1st amendment has its limitations). I have a right to go to movie theater, go the mall, go to work and not worry about being blown away by an AR15.

You have no concept of what rights are. They are not granted by the government. We recognize that people have rights from birth - the government is there because of the recognition of this fact.

It was disturbing to see Alex Jones viewpoint. Since he has no logical justification to argue, he has taken the route of confusing the audience. The mockery of British accent was very childing and absolutely unacceptable behaviour. I am concerned what the world is becoming for our future generations if members of a civilized country are difficult to discuss with and reach out to.

No not the guys, that I have had to scream at that may win the fight. Now lets ask him who blow up the towers. The problem with this is look at all the ones that don’t think that way that do want Morgan out of the USA this is do to his hate of our laws. He is playing with your head like he did the last time. The guy was a little out there but even if you don’t think the government blow up the towers, ask your self whey Ms Clinton lie and four are dead, why they were running guns, why is there a doctor sitting in jail for helping us get Ben Laden, why is the guy that made a you tube video in jail. Why did our leader say that to the Russian’s after he gets back in. why is the US giving money to fix up using tax dollars to rebuild mosques around the world. Why is God less and less ever day. What is going on in Hollywood with the brain washing they are doing. Don’t let Morgan do this to you out there. Stand up throw the jerk out.

I didnt care alex jones was loud. piers repeatedly asked stupid questions without answering alex's reply questions. a ar15 and weapons that may be banned have no higher killing power than a semi auto hunting rifle. the reason why they are being used in shootings like alex said is most likely because the medias portrayal of them being killing machines. restricted clip sizes are set by a pin that can be removed.

Well put Brooke. It really is sad how so many people irrationally think that if restrictions are placed on guns, crime rates will be somehow be lowered. One look at the inverse ratio of gun control legislation to violent crime in Chicago, Britain and other states/nations is proof of this. Alex Jones was loud and boisterous but he almost had to be in order to avoid being drowned out by the one sided charade that American media presents to its citizen every day.

They will get a minority man or a women who supports gay marriage, abortion, and government tracking of law abiding citizens gun purchases, so they can remain in power. There really are only "stated" differences between the parties. In reality, there are really very little actual differences. And they use the media to convince the gullible that they really care about them and their issues. What they care about is staying in power and getting richer. They count on loyal party followers like yourself.

I'm not an Alex fan. Actually, until I saw this "show", I had never heard of him before. Because we have been programmed by the media for so many years, anyone who speaks out against what is going on in a passionate manner appears delusional. The problem is the masses are and have been deluded for many years. Most people on here and in the media are using fear and emotion to get people motivated. And while it does motive people, fear and emotion does not lead to rational debate or sound policy decisions. And unfortunately most people know little, to nothing about history or what is going on even now. The govt needs to be focusing on criminals and the mentally ill and not law abiding citizens. And the Soviets and the Nazi's labeled anyone who did not go along with them as mentally ill, so they could lock them away. Oh how soon we forget!

    Murder rates
    Europe- 4.83 per 100,000
    US- 4.58 per 100,000

about 81 of every 100 Americans owns a gun. These are statistics that matter. It looks like you dont need guns to kill people and banning them doesnt seem to stop murders...and Piers could only keep going back to the 3 shootings. If thats all he has to go on then I think he needs to stfu

Don't know where you got 4.83 for Europe, but here's a breakdown of murder rates for some of the European countries vs. the US (per 100,000 people)

      USA – 4.8
      U.K. – 1.2
      Portugal – 1.2
      France – 1.1
      Italy – 0.9
      Germany – 0.8
      Spain – 0.8

Only 6 countries in Europe have a higher murder rate than the U.S. – Russia, Greenland (lol), Lithuania, Estonia, Moldova, and Estonia. 6 countries out of 44 in Europe. Talking about facts that matter...

I am embarrassed as a gun owner that this guy Alex Jones has been given an opportunity to represent his beliefs, on behalf of the gun owners in this country. We have lossed the oportunity to represent ourselves in the positive and resonable manner that most of us conduct ourselves with on a daily basis due to the rantings of people like this. I was devistated by the shootings at Sandyhook, and I would gladly give up every gun I own, if it would bring back the life of just one child that was taken from us on that day....I know that is not possible. We responsible gun owners have not been represented well by the vary people who are in the position to positivley contribute to this issue with common sence solutions and clear headed respectfull dialog with the vary ones who are asking questions of us.

Chris, I understand my rights and I understand them well. I am able to explain my rights and I think that I have a responsibility to respectfully promote them to others if asked. This guy may have had some factual statements in his rant, but he did not represent us well. We Americans hold dear our freedom, and our ability that not only allows us to bear arms, but to speak freely and espouse our views to others...just as Peirs Morgan was trying to do. It is sad that one who would declare his views so proudly would seek to deny someone else of theirs, as Alex Jones has done.

It would appear as though I have put on a better representation of how a responsible gun owner should act when confronted with an opposing view. You appear to have all the catch phrases, and no subsance or intelligent thoughts to bring to the discussion....truly sad. I will likely visit this thread in the days to come, and I would be happy to take you under ny wing so that you might become better able to carry on an intelligent debate in the future.....see you on the next one.

I hardly ever post on line. But, now I feel I must. Yes, Alex is over the top at times. To understand what he is saying, you must research the facts.
First, I would like to say I am not anti-American, although I am not liberal. I am an ex-marine, my father ex-army special forces, his father is ex-army artillery. My great uncle died on the beaches of Okinawa, an Island on which I have served.
It has been admitted that the gulf of Tonkin was a staged event by our government to get us into the Vietnam war.
And, yes I thought the 9-11 truthers were crazy at first. But, after researching the facts many things seem strange about the whole event. Norad stood down, a drill was going on when it happen (regarding terrorist flying planes into buildings), and massive amount of shorts on airline stocks occurred ( which were never really investigated).
    Let’s assume Alex is crazy.
I just ask you to do a few simple things.
Look up as much as you can about 9-11, Waco, and ruby ridge, and see what Alex has to say about it.
But, then wait six months, and see what has happen in our country and think about it again.
I crossed paths with Alex (his web site only) because 4 years ago I was looking at investment information about gold, silver, and stocks. He is not crazy, God help us I wish he was.

Firstly, THANK YOU for yours and your family's service to this once great Republic. I wish our military was not under the control of sadistic elitist bureaucrats fixated on creating the Military Industrial Complex General Eisenhower warned us about. I share your thoughts as regards Mr. Jones, and more importantly – though over the top, and hoping at times he might be crazy and this is all one bad dream we're living in, it's frightening when you find out..........HE'S NOT.

Every gun and ammo that is demanded by "peace loving, lawabiding, all american patriot" gun enthusiasts due to the lax restrictions, is then availabe to every want-to-be mass muderer, terriost and killer. The NRA and gun rights advocates make it easier for killers, not harder.

Morgan was pushing hot buttons on Jones. His entire strategy was to make Jones look crazy and then had obviously prepared followup guests to bring on to talk about how crazy Jones was and how they need to take his guns. This was obviously completed staged and preplanned by producers etc

Alex should have stayed calm but he did not. He is passionate. Dismissing the facts Alex Jones was saying because of his body language or tone is unfortunate. They were important facts in the debate.

Alex's presentation completely took away from the message. Although mostly factual, he misspoke regarding the guns used at Sandy Hook, getting so worked up to the point of shouting and challenging piers to a boxing match is quite indecorous. Piers has no trouble putting his foot in his mouth but Alex never gave him the chance. Alex's statements presented in a calm and collected manner would be powerful arguments, however when presented in rants and tirades their merit is lost. Alex's outbursts should not be used to reflect on those who support the 2nd amendment.

In 1986, when I was serving as a senior attorney at the U.S. EPA, we were hiring contractors from industry to help us conduct audits of oil refiners to determine if they were correctly reporting the amount of lead they were adding to their gasoline. (Remember that gasoline used to contain lead additive?) Because these folks had spent their caeers in industry, I had to explain to them why working for the government would serve an important public purpose. So I told them, "Look at the headlines about inattentiveness in schools, misbehavior, and falling SAT scores. All of those things are related to lead exposure, which comes mostly from emissions of cars using leaded gas. Someday someone will establish that relationship statistically." We hired good talent, but I bring this up now because since 1986 people have actually established the relationship I saw then but couldn't prove. And the results went behond even those I considered in 1986. It is now convincingly established that the best indicator of violent crime is lead exposure. If you track lead exposure, which came mostly from lead exhaust from auto tailpipes, and set it against violent crime approximately 20 years later, the two match incredibly well. It matches not just in the U.S. but worldwide. Now, your guest tonight, who said that the number of murders went down (I believe he referred to the period from 1990 to present, though I had trouble keeping track of a guy who was screaming) as the number of guns went up, was simply uninformed. In fact, he was uninformed about a great number of things, but the one statistic he seemed most set on was this one, and it turns out that he isn't much of a scientist, as he made the classic statistical mistake of treating an association as a cause. I don't guess science was his first priority. Now the irony is that lead didn't leave the market by the voluntary action of industries, by market function, or by technological innovation. It left because it was forced out by government regulation, the very thing this gentleman was ranting against. If your guest is truly against threats to his safety, he might want to re-think his opposition to government action, for the removal of lead from gasoline was one government program that literally saved civilization as we know it. So, in my view, your guest was not just uninformed, he had the truth all twisted up into knots. I feel bad for people who actually follow him. How dumb have people really become? One might consider whether that also might be a legacy of the use of gasoline lead additive.

lead being removed from gasoline has nothing to do with taking guns away from people. gun control is not stopping anyone from getting a gun if they want one. the war on drugs is a failure and wrong, you cant stop that why do you think you can stop people from getting weapons . prescription drugs kill so many people every year.

All governments since the beginning of time have been controlled by criminal psychopaths. Lead was put into gas in the first place to lower mileage so people would buy more gas. l You don't realize how much danger your in. Watch INNOCENTS BETRAYED and 38. IDENTIFYING DIFFERENT PSYCHOPATHS.

Alan, I disagree with the guy who said your post was the most ignorant post. Your argument was logical and well stated, however your conclusions about guns is based on misinformation and years of propaganda. The govt has a right and obligation to pass laws for public safety. However, there is a process in place for that. Unfortunately, we have had for many years, a media that is run by those who have an agenda which is not in our best interest, but theirs. And we have two political parties who are doing the same, while the population is ignorant of what they are doing and is preoccupied with foolishness. And right now the media is using fear and emotion to motivate people to push for more laws. There are tons of laws already for controlling firearms. The young disturbed young man that killed these children broke numerous laws. He stole his mom's legally owned firearms. He went on school grounds with them and he shot people. He was not legally old enough to own a handgun in any state. Should those laws been in place? Yes. Did they stop him from doing what he did? The answer is obvious. The govt needs to be addressing the real issues. The main ones for this situation is, gun safety and security and mental illness treatment. A national database would not have changed anything. Even magazine capacity would not have changed it. The focus, as is typical for the govt, is misplaced.

They are as deluded as he is, but tonight interestingly, he seems to alienated many of them too. Some of them are even calling him a "CIA plant" now! Tony, why not return to your homeland where it is safe? I spent some time in LA. which has some of the toughest gun control laws in the country and has a very high crime rate also. Many of the surrounding areas are controlled by gangs. I'm thinking they got their guns illegally. What is it about America that we have folks leaving their oppressive govts, who want to come here and tell us how to did it. I'm not sure about your country but I lived in England for 3 years. Many areas are controlled by thugs roaming the streets terrorizing the people there. Piers is a rich arrogant Brit who should be using his resources to help solve his own countries problems. We do not need or want him here helping us solve ours.

I just think it's funny that Piers can only come up with his one stupid statistic, on every debate he has. UK has less GUN MURDER than the US.

    Well, guess what?
They've always had less gun murder rate than the US. AND they've always had less guns.

What they do have in common with the US, though, is their VIOLENT CRIME RATE, which ranks highest in Europe, and is 2nd to the US. He also fails to include "Brown" countries (Because they don't count) in his statistics. Like in Mexico where 50,000 people are murdered a year with guns, even though they have gun control (Unless Eric Holder allows more cartels to have our weapons).

If we are going to bring "Anglo" countries in here, why not Canada? You're free to look up their crime statistics, and I'm sure you'll amazed.

He also fails to include STATES that have strict gun control, like California, who's murder rate is astronomical.

What about Chicago, Detroit? They have strict gun control laws, yet they are number 1 and 2 in the nation for gun violence?

Do you really think that a Government that can't even balance a budget, figure out a way to get rid of 300 million guns? They can't. The only thing they will do is "Ban" guns for the Law-Abiding citizen, which the majority will never commit a crime.

Our national murder rate is not some incomprehensible mystery that can only be attributed to the inanimate tools, the steel, brass and wood that do the work. It is largely the work of adult males from age 18 to 39 with criminal records killing other males of that same age and criminal past.

Lanza and Newtown are comforting aberrations for the gun control nut. They allow us to take refuge in the fantasy that homicides in America are the work of the occasional serial killer practicing his dark art in one of those perfect small towns that always show up in murder mysteries or Stephen King novels. They fool us into thinking that there is something American about our murder rate that can be traced to hunting season, patriotism and bad mothers. The fact is, we don't have a gun problem in America, we have a gang problem.

You can have tunnel vision all you want, whatever fits your agenda, but the facts are there. Guns aren't the issue in this country, it's the people.

It's clear reading many of these posts that there are a rampant number of 'sheeple' watching this network and though expected, it makes one worry. I make particular reference to a few pontificating, narcissists on these posts bragging about what degrees they've attained, when clearly a base IQ is not in their repertoire of academic achievements. Granted, Mr. Jones' ranting didn't win him any popularity votes with the centrist / leftist crowd, most of what he said was 'spot-on.' Fact is most people want to keep sleeping. He could have certainly toned down his rants and answered the questions as he is well capable of doing. To educate oneself in issues like the history of governments, societal behaviors, the repression of the populace and insidious forces working within a greater context would place us a stone's throw of what is happening in the United States today. What Mr. Jones is saying, to anyone possessing a cogent mind, a proficient reading level and basic research skills would seem as Sherlock Holmes coined 'elementary.' If you think America and most of the western world is not in trouble, then perhaps you should keep watching Piers Morgan and ask him for advice when he returns to Great Britain after his and your liberties have been stripped away. Research indicates that in societies that have been overtaken by a 'Regime' change, the populace has been DISARMED. Ask most of Europe about their gun laws when the fascists came to power in the 1930's. Do your research, then say something of substance.

I suspect from a man that has lived in 3 different countriesd (one having been a fascist dictatorship), visited over 10, is of multiple ethnic backgrounds (including but not limited to Ashkenazi Jew, Spaniard and Brazilian) – I not only speak from an informed perspective, but with first hand experience as well. Tell me where, in the massive militarization, fascist hybridization of government and eradication of the middle class is this country NOT following in the footsteps of various other European precedents, Italy, Spain and Germany coming to mind. Having been born and living in post-Franco Spain for over 13 years, I know a 'bit' about fascism / socialism and what it does to a society. Spain now: a shining example of cronyism – grandchildren of power players running the show 40 years ago. I embrace all cultures, and read extensively, something I see you clearly do not. Your comments are pedestrian at best and your lack of insight, wanton. The area of this website is for COMMENTS not for one to publish exposes on the workings of socio-economic policies and World History. It appears that almost all of the media, is primarily an arm of the Democratic party, however while the two parties have stated differences, there is not much real difference. Both of the parties have managed to divide the majority of the people into "party" camps and while we pick our favorite party and argue with those in the other camp, the members of the parties are basically doing what they want. As for the propaganda, it has been going on for many years and it is very unlikely that debating with and using facts and logic will help, unfortunately.

Innocent children have died for this ignorant mans platform. Only thing the NRA cares about is the profit of guns sold not the deaths of American children. The world would be a better place with out Alex Jones. I am sure this is a nice place reserved for him in Hell.

the nra wants armed guards at schools like the school obamas kids go but with less armed guards. people will still be able to get guns after they are banned just in part form or black market.a military rifle has the same killing power as a hunting rifle or pistol. more people will die from no conceal carry person being around when something bad happens. as in what happened at the theatre shooting, no conceal carry allowed at this specific theatre.

Did you make it past the third grade? Your response is juvenile and you wouldn't recognize logic if it was holding a 22 to your head. Piers is completely correct in his analysis of the facts of gun control. The NRA keeps saying more laws won't make us safer while they make sure every law passed has such huge holes in it that it's impossible to enforce. Yet people like you don't or can't recognize that as illogical. Gun owners say they need guns to defend themselves from armed criminals yet nobody has worked as diligently as the NRA to make sure criminals can gets arms by allowing them buy them at gun shows where there are no background checks and making sure the government can't keep track of who owns them. Yet you think that is logical??

I am a gun owner, and this Mr. Jones is clearly an angry little weasel, and a poor representative of responsible gun owners who respect the flag, and carry themselves in a dignified manner.

Assault weapons do not belong on the streets, period. And any firearms ownership needs to be seriously restricted for malcontents, psychotics, and the mentally ill until such time that they can be properly treated and brought back to the mainstream.

I think Alex actually did a good job, he just got too upset. People need to realize that there are millions of Americans like Alex Jones, who are mad as hell at the government and media for lulling the public into a sense of comfort and normalcy while the world is beginning to fall apart. Americans are all over social media clamoring for the government to protect their children. Well, as a former soldier and Iraq war veteran, I can tell there are three things the modern government is good at: spending money, using bureaucracy and legal power to control people, and killing people (often indiscriminately). It's only a matter of time before Americans find that out the hard way.

Alex had some valid points regarding the purpose of the 2nd amendment, yet I think it was a mistake for him to get so upset on TV. He is right though, there are millions of Americans who would die before surrendering their weapons, and I am one of them. If all of these people calling for an assault weapons ban believe that the government can issue an edict and expect all gun owners to comply, they are in for a rude awakening. A government that passed the Patriot Act, the NDAA provision with indefinite detention of American citizens, FISA warrantl-ess wiretapping, and one that kills people with drone strikes around the globe without any due process, is truly a force to be feared and distrusted. Right now armed resistance is unthinkable, yet things could rapidly deteriorate due to the economy or some other global crisis, and we could have rioting and martial law. 9/11/01 killed several thousand people, and look how the government responded: destruction of civil rights and several destructive wars, including the GLOBAL war on terror. Imagine what would happen if tens of thousands died in a much larger attack? There would be absolute chaos and martial law. People would be in the streets losing their minds. I'm not prepared to lock my doors and pray that the police or the military come and save me before my home is ransacked and my family killed. If history teaches us anything, it is not "if" the next crisis occurs, but "when".
Guns are the great equalizer. Without guns, the bullies and criminals always have the upper hand. Imagine if our forefathers decided to turn over their weapons to the British, trusting that someday the Monarchy would get its act together and start treating people the right way.

Anyone who enjoys any of the freedoms we still have left in this country should be sent to the front lines with that sort of logic. Though I don't think it would be a horrible thing if the government had compulsory military service like South Korea or Israel. At least people would then understand how the government works and how easily our valuable hard-fought rights can be stripped from us with reactionary legislation.

I was deeply disturbed by Alex Jones. I am ashamed that he is an American and fellow Texan (I think I heard him say he lives near Austin). Freedom of speech is a right, but expressng yourself inhumanely, abusively, and verbally assaulting to another human being is quite repulsive and definitely not a right. He is one person who surely should not have access to any deadly weapon. Period. Piers Morgan has my complete support. I hope President Obama and all sensible Americans support him as well. It's so hard for me to believe that Alex Jones has so many followers and listeners. Very disgusted, disheartened. Someday, I may even feel sorry for Alex Jones.

Physiatrist- not real doctors but prescribe medications that make us suicidal and violent
Food industry- filled with chemicals to make us sick
Vaccinations- all kinds of chemicals to weaken our immune system
Health system- made to kill us

Piers seems to be the only sane and smart person in this country. It is scary to know men like Jones live in the land I live. The White House better not deport Piers to satisfy some insane man like him. Jones actually scared me and I was not in the same room as him. Also, to know that he has millions of people listening to him?! What is wrong with this country? America is becoming a scary place and if Piers, the only one I see standing up against guns, is deported, then I want to leave with him.

I am really sick of the knee jerk reactions everytime there is a shooting. The fanatics want to ban guns but the gun is no0t the problem. The lunatic pulling the trigger is the problem. People get killed with cars, knives, blunt objects and a host of other "weapons". Shall we ban them too? Banning the assault rifle didn't work last time. If a bad guy wants a gun, he is going to get a gun one way or another because he could care less about the law. As a law-abiding citizen and firearms owner, I am alive to tell the story about my home invasion and my ability to defend myself. Those perps, however, were not so lucky. Among my weapons, is an assault rifle. Banning weapons or creating more restrictive laws only affect the criminal. Since when does a criminal go buy a gun at the local gun shop? The existing background check worked in Connecticut, which has more restrictive laws than other states. The perp tried to buy a weapon but was refused. He stole weapons from his mother. Now what new law could have possible prevented this tragedy? We are all saddened by these tragedies, but punishing everyone for the deeds of a few will not solve the problem.

      January 8, 2013 at 11:10 pm | Report abuse | Reply

Look at the gun debate honestly. In this country more people die in car accidents every day than people killed by violence involving guns. Should we take cars away also...? No! You workon laws to regulate them for people to purchase legally as they have been doing, maybe they do need to be stricter.Just remember the thing about laws, no matter what gun ban you put in place, what type of laws in society you try to induce to prevent measures like this..criminals do not obey LAWS!!! So if there is someone wanting to cause harm even as a legal gun owner or not, they will do it however they can and I guarantee they will not stop , check, and follow the law before doing so. You have to deal with the real issues at hand. What creates violence? Poverty, economic situations, mental issues, depression, stress, drugs? When you destroy these issues, then you will reduce all violence dramatically especially those involving guns. Taking away a persons legal right to own any type of gun you are essentially killing someone yourself when they are attacked and unable to defend themselves and their families. Wake up and tackle the real problems in America and things will become better and stop trying to issue a death sentence for someone who tries to defend or feed his family.

For those that dont know or want to remember Kent State1970, look it up. You might be surprised and if you dont think it could happen again, dont kid yourself. While we are at it, you keep calling/useing the word "assualt weapon". Strange as it might be, I call my guns" defence weapons". As far as the debate or what ever you would call that meeting with Alex, he was just giving you what/how you treat your past guest. Alex has some very interesting facts but hes presentation was not effective and so we have an admendment on free speach, but sometimes one must also temper ones self when invokeing or practising free speach. You don't seem as deranged as many of the NRA supporters posting on here, but Kent State as a reason for thinking everyone and their grandma should be armed with assault weapons? Three students died when some green national guardsmen panicked during an anti war protest and opened fire over 40 years ago. So we must deal with 15,000 gun murders every year plus a massacre of innocent victims every 6 months to prevent that from happening again? Which it wouldn't anyway, just lead to lots more dead people if it did.

It's funny. You do not hear people calling for the legalization of the Thompson submachine gun or the Browning automatic rifle. These weapons were outlawed because they have no place in a civilian population. All Piers Morgan is saying is that hi-power semi automatic weapons with large clips should be in the same category.
Sadly, due to the incredible numbers of these weapons already sold, a sales ban will have limited effectiveness. So I think ALL guns should be registered; owners tested for competenty, and licensed.

I think this was staged – I mean, I know these NRA people are pretty brainwashed with these false arguments and meaningless phrases, but I don't know, I think CNN is pulling my chain, this was like Saturday Night Live, we got to laughing at what this guy was saying, and that's when it hit us, this is staged, no one is really against reasonable sane public policy for guns, or wants to do away with the 2nd amendment. It was great theater, but i'm sure the NRA supports sane rational public policy that reduces gun violence. The NRA firmly believes guns don't kill people, people kill people – by their own logic, I'm sure they understand therefore guns don't protect people – people protect people.

Banning the big AR15 type guns is pointless now. Those types of guns have been sold millions of times since 2004 when the ban was lifted so the damage is done.

What needs to be done is ask the gun owners _POLITELY_ to register them if they haven't. Making a law or demanding it is only going to cause the public panic and no one will do it and hide everything they own.

Piers Morgan is trying desperately to resurrect his popularity and make himself more valuable to CNN by bringing in more viewers. That's why he had Mr. Alex Jones on and Mr. Jones, of course, is going to be very passionate about guns. Very smart move on Morgan's part.

Mr. Morgan's popularity was waining until the gun issue came up. Bingo! Now he's got all of you by the b**ls in getting you to pay attention to his show.

But Piers Morgan has virtually no understanding of the culture of the U.S. (For that matter, neither does does Barack Obama.) For him to be critical of U.S. culture is absolutely unacceptable. I live in Canada and I can attest to you that even Canadians have very little understanding of U.S. culture. (In fact, that little understanding has morphed into rampant anti-Americanism, much like Obama's anti-Americanism.) In Canada, it is unheard of for the average citizen to own a gun, except for target shooting and protection on farms. An essential part of U.S. culture is guns, most of which the rest of the world cannot understand just as much as most of the world doesn't understand, for example, Turkish Whirling Dervishes. Guns have been part of U.S. history from before its Revolution. Taking away an American's guns, or even infringing upon their ownership, is equivalent to taking away his car and forcing him to ride a bicycle to work. Yes, guns make it easier to hurt and even kill many people at one time as opposed to, say, a knife. Yes, some of the guns we have today are incredibly sophisticated in their ability to kill as opposed to the types of guns used during the Revolutionary times. But what that means is that guns must be handled with the utmost respect and care by every legitimate owner.

The solution is that each of us needs to take responsibility for our handling of guns:
    1. Hollywood has to stop glorifying guns. They make megabucks from gun movies.
    2. Video games have to stop glorifying guns. They also make megabucks from shooter games.
    3. People have to handle their guns as if they were dynamite ready to go off at the least mishandling or misuse.

handling guns like dynamite wont stop murder, it may slow down defense from not knowing how to use a gun fast. canadians have a one gun per 3 population in 2007.

I agree with John Vega! Have your opinions Mr. Morgan, but know your audience. I wish Mr. Jones had not lost his temper because he makes some very good points, and I could not agree with him more. He also should have prepared an educated response for the gun murders questions of which he knew was coming. Giving up your guns does not guarantee your security Mr. Morgan. It does however guarantee you will not have a legitimate defensive weapon if you need it!

The mass majority of blacks are not criminal thugs and the majority of mormons are not having incest with their teen aged daughters.

I'm a Canadian and a gun owner; but, our guns are shotguns/ rifles that shoot one bullet at a time... kind of like the guns used back when the 2nd Amendment was ratified from the Bill of Rights in 1791. The guns we use are for hunting, and, protection of our livestock. Back in 1791, there were no such guns that could shoot multiple rounds per minute. A musket had to be reloaded, plus add the gunpowder, so at most you would get 3 shots per minute. I'm all for you Americans having those types of guns...but, when you see whack jobs like Alex Jones with 50 assault weapons, using his 2nd Amendment rights as a reason...we all should be worried!!!

So since the 2nd Amendment only applies to single shot weapons like the colonial day Americans had and we get "3 shots per minute" as you said, perhaps the 1st Amendment only applies to the written and spoken word...kind of like the press/media they used back in 1791. I guess the 1st Amendment shouldn't apply to email, radio, television, photography, etc.

Russell, I own many guns of different types and none of them have killed anyone all by themselves. However, when 4 ninja-dressed perps with Glocks used a battering ram to take my front door down at 3 am, they discovered that it was their last crime. It was later determined that all of them had extensive criminal records, including armed robberies. Gun laws didn't prevent them from getting their hands on some expensive weapons because they don't obey them. So we need more laws to make the honest person go through more hoops to legally (because we do obey laws) buy a gun? That is what ridiculous.

Alan, what of if not those "4 ninja-dressed perps with Glocks..." that got at your front door at 3 am, what of if it was your brother, friend, girlfriend or your son that got snaped for one reason or the other, laid his hands on your guns and do some heartbreaking things like in NEWTOWN CN. Mind you, you have purchased your guns legally and you belong to those honest gun owners and mind you, your brother, friend, girlfriend or your son never had any medical mental issues. Now think a second of the extent of devastation if all your guns where semi-Automatic like the AR45. The US law-makers should do more to prevent guns in getting into the hands of gangsters, that I will agree with you.

If he has as many followers as Morgan stated, and upon inspecting his site and youtube, it appears he does, surely he would have more than enough finances to hire his own security. He most likely got rich peddling paranoia and now he hopefully has the financial ability to hide in a bunker from his fabricated boogeymen. I would hope he would do just that.

I've begun to wonder why someone like Morgan was placed on this show? Is it because he's an obedient worker who says exactly what he's paid to say?. The most disturbing thing about him is his role of the "calm, rational man" while making doubly sure at all times to make sure that his more passionate guests (such as Alex Jones) are made to appear "fanatical" or "crazy." Notice how, after Jones left, Morgan discussed the interview with someone else, making, as i already said, doubly sure that Jones would be seen as mentally unbalanced by as many viewers as possible. Notice how during the interview, Morgan appears to actually be paying attention to Jones – but in fact, he was simply waiting for the man to finish talking so that he himself could insert "his own" commentaries (meaning the commentaries that were written for him). And of course, there were those viewers who were duped, which is obvious from the comments that were left here: They obediently saw Jones as being an unbalanced, crazy man, or full of hate, etc., just as they have been guided (by Morgan's comments) to see him. Morgan is manipulative in the extreme in that "I'm-a-calm-and-rational-man" act of his. His quietness is rather eerie, and it would appear that that quietness is deliberate, something he uses as a tool to show how "reasonable" he is, he uses it to make any guest who displays normal human emotions (such as passion) appear "extreme." Tonight, Morgan made no sense – nothing new for him – and Jones made perfect sense. Far too many Americans are all too willing to "roll over," to give up their rights and their guns on command. No doubt the ratings were high tonight, and that's what's important, but it is also important to Morgan (if he wants to keep his job), to make freedom fighters like Jones appear "looney tunes." And of course, Morgan "hits below the belt" by discussing Jones after Jones was no longer there to defend himself. You just have to win all the time, don't you Morgan? ...

So I'm not exactly a fan of Alex Jones, but I'm def not a fan of Piers Morgan either. I have no idea WHY Piers Morgan thinks he can speak for USA. While I'm not a fan of weapons all over the place, I understand the reason we preserve the 2nd Amendment. I thought Alex Jones was funny when he called Piers a Redcoat who wanted to take American guns. Pretty funny.
Also thought Alex Jones point about Prozac & 'suicide pills' seemed quite accurate.
Lastly, Alex Jones said that 9/11 was an inside job. Piers attempted to make that part of his 'hatchet job' on Alex Jones. But I have seen no evidence from Bush/Cheney proving that Osama Bin Laden and the hijackers knocked down WTC towers or Building 7. I find the blocked and botched investigation to be evidence for an inside job rather than evidence of a foreign attack. Alex Jones made that point quite well.
While Piers Morgan doesn't seem to have any stances except on gun control, I wondered at Alex Jones accusations of Piers Morgan's iimplication in the phone hacking scandal.
Last point - I deeply miss Larry King and am saddened that Piers Morgan is our replacement. He's inferior, a horrible interviewer, and generally lacking. Where Larry King had backbone and personal quality, Piers Morgan has a stiff upper lip, a tendency to cower, and an inability to show any heart ... b/c he's a corporate sell-out to the core. Its very sad, but it's what CNN wants in the drivers seat.

Alex Jones approach to debating or discussing the issues of gun-control and the 2nd amendment simply show why unrestricted access to guns is so dangerous – guns stiffle debate; guns kill democracy.

I would really like to hear some brilliant ideas from the anti-gun fanatics. Connecticut has more stringent gun laws than most other states. The shooter tried to buy a gun and was turned down. Anti-gun nuts want background checks. We already have federal background checks and waiting periods. And they worked. It kept the idiot form buying a gun. So what did he do? He stole guns from his mom. Now tell me, what new gun law would have kept guns out of his hands? infringing on the rights of many for the actions of a few is absurd. Some of the idiotic ideas out there will only serve to make it more difficult for us law-abiding citizens to legally buy guns. I have a concealed carry permit and my gun is like my American Express Card. I never leave home without it.

I love how illiterate the far right are. The fact is that only 40% of gun owners go through background checks due to loopholes such as gun show loopholes which don't require background checks.

      • Alan

Before calling me illiterate, you should get your facts straight. It is actually the other way around the; 60% of the gun sales are legally done in gun shops and by dealers at gun shows, which must pass background checks. Most of us have no problem with the background checks. That three day wait is not a big deal. The problem is most of the ideas being proposed by those on the left will infringe on the rights of law-abiding people and do little to stop the criminal. It amazes me that none of the suggestions so far will solve this problem. Requiring background checks at gun shows, which most of us would have no issue with, might help but criminals have other ways to still get what they want. It's better to come up with meaningful suggestions than resort to name calling and spewing inaccurate statistics. But the name-calling rant is the way of the left. None of the nasty rhetoric does anything to help the problem.

I may be in for a beating coming from the UK but it seems to me that the debate is being hijacked by Mr Jones and the extreme gun lobby group. As a foreigner I appreciate the importance of the 2nd amendment to the majority of the American people but the fact remains that the debate is not its removal but to apply common sense in its interpretation. The simple question being posed is this, does it make sense that military assault weapons with high capacity rounds belong on the streets of a civilized society. The position offered by Mr Jones is mute and exalts the rhetoric of fear to influence the easily led by suggesting that guns will be taken away.

    January 8, 2013 at 5:34 am | Report abuse | Reply
    • Jesse

Its not an assault weapon. its a rifle, period. it just looks like the ones that the military uses for a reason. its the layout of the weapon for proficiency and strategic attachments (ie. lights, grips. ect.) i do not own one myself. an assault weapon is capable of auto fire and burst fire. it is no different than any other gun. it just has a devilish appearance. the whole point of the interview was supposed to be on Piers deportation anyways for foreign subversion. and any thoughts of any civilized nations on this planet is ridiculous. this whole damn world is screwed and id like to be able to defend myself if necessary.

        Hi Jesse,

I always suspect the use of the word period as it suggests that there is nothing for debate and is often used by those with entrenched and extreme views. I must admit that I am not an expert on assault rifles or otherwise but I have been in the US and gone to gun ranges etc and was amazed at what you can buy. I appreciate they may not be fully automatic but how many rounds can they fire in a minute without the need to reload. When you answer that question that is the number of assailants that you can defend yourself against. I then ask that people who need to potentially maim more than three people in defence are deluded. Why is it necessary to have anything other than single leader weapons by that I mean revolver or bolt action rifle. You might be amazed but you can own shotguns in the UK and even pump action but the number of rounds are limited to three in this instance. I live in a country were I can go out and not be in fear of prolific gun ownership where the mentally ill or criminal groups can easily get hold of weapons and I mean easily. It is this definition I apply when I talk about a civilised society. I can see no evidence of the world going to hell other than environmental concerns.

Was Piers even in the United States when 9.11 happened?
Does he have any clue what was going on over here in this country during that time.
Its scary how they are trying to forge history into being " Thats just the way it was".
We were already living under a state of facsism. Then they launched 9.11.
Hardly anybody was fooled. 70% of the people know the truth.
Now they project that Bush had public support and the evidence that proves the whole event, to be false.
No matter how much they want to assume an alternate reality, We repeat " Never Forget"
And that is what that statement means. Dont allow them to alter the meaning.
9.11 was an inside job, just like in past events, whether you like it or not.
We Will Never Forget – Our government committed the ttacks of 9.11 and many others before that.

But, both the ignorant AND those with an agenda won't dialogue with calmer EXPERTS. Ask those soldiers coming out of COMBAT exactly why "the people" don't put down tyrany, taliban, and Al Quida.

That is one of the most irrational statements I've seen on here. By your logic(and I use the term loosely), Somalia must be the best country in the world-no central government and everyone armed to the teeth to defend themselves. I suggest you consider moving there.
I think you will find the most free countries in the world have the most educated populations, not the best armed. But I can see that is an uphill battle here.

Firstly, people who are proponents of the second amendment should look at when the law was written and whether it is still relevant to today's society.
Secondly, these same people should benchmark America's gun laws to the whole world and see how ridiculously high the statistics for gum related crimes are. America is not the middle kingdom (there is no middle kingdom) and Americans should benchmark themselves to the world instead of only comparing the past and present in America. This sort of comparison is flawed.

I am a Canada mother who was asked by my teenage boys after the school shooting "why do they even have guns in their homes? because to us it is a totally foreign concept??" We here in Canada don't understand why anyone would want those weapons in our homes because we never have and as such our country doesn't have these debates and constant news of mass killings with massive weapons. We are a sister country to the US and I'm only a few hours away from the boarder. I commend Piers on his efforts and like other parents in our little town in Ontario believe that guns don't belong in homes.

You don't have an argument there in comparing 35 gun deaths in the UK vs 11000+ in the US? The US has 5 times the population of the UK and even by that comparison that would be 175 against 11000+. As I said earlier it is not the abolishment of the 2nd amendment which is at stake but the necessity of military style weapons with high capacity magazines. What is wrong with bolt action riles and revolvers? Why would you need anything more than that?

It doesn't matter if you are talking about pro-life, pro-choice, environmentalist, socialist, anti-war, etc. etc. etc. there are plenty of crazies you can find out there that will rant and rave and make their cause sound rediculous while fervently defending thier views. I just watched the interview between Alex Jones and Pierce Morgan. I had never heard of Alex Jones prior to today, but after watching his interview with Pierce I can draw the conclusion that Alex Jones is a rude, loud and insulting individual and his behaviour toward Pierce and along with Jone's outlandish ramblings did nothing to further the argument from gun lobby advocates. Pierce handled himself well and when Alex took to mocking Pierce's accent that in my opinion is at the top of ignorance and disrespect. I quite enjoyed that Pierce did not get hooked into Jone's off the wall diatribes. As a Canadian I enjoy what the U.S. as to offer but when it comes to the gun debate I agree with the anti gun lobbyists that America does have too many guns. As a retired police officer I am in a position to comment that we do have less gun violence in Canada, a big factor is the fact that there are less guns in Canada for people to commit mass acts of violence. I can say we are not immune to mass murder, I will just point out per capita we have less gun violence. The U.S. is a great country, but I do not envy the right to bear arms as something I would want in Canada.

I saw the whole interview last night. I am so happy that Alex Jones was on such a public forum, as I have never heard him before. If there is any argument for stricter gun laws, it is what I saw in the interview.

Mr Jones was ranting and using incendiary speech not only against Piers Morgan, but against the U.S. government. It was clear from what he said that the reason he owns"50" firearms, is because he is preparing for an uprising against the government. Whether its a mental health issue or what, this man should be disarmed. He is the epitome of an individual with mental health issues, yet he owns this many guns. Hence the need for stricter gun laws.

The best way to get the pompous Morgan out of the country is not to watch his show...Jones had some good points but has no experience in front of TV camera's a fact that Morgan of course knew. As expected Morgan left out or twisted many important facts, for his liberal ideology,Perhaps he should look to his own country where gun violence has doubled since the ban in the UK...not to mention the tens of thousands of knifings and various bombings, and the innocent who are left defenseless.

You don't need 50 guns to protect yourself. Only a select few to be able to protect yourself. I have 4 firearms, which I selected to keep my family safe. And I warn any trespassers who wish to enter my property unlawfully. "If you can read this, you're in range" I have 3 categories of firearms. 1: I have a Winchester model 70 in 30-06. The 30-06 round was made famous in WWII with the M1 Garand. This is for long distance. 2: Then I have my Bushmaster in .223 to handle closer in encounters. 3&4: I have my FN Five-Seven and my wife has a Taurus 24-7 in .45 CAP. She is former military and I am just an enthusiast who had a father who was a Marine during WWII and a Drill Sergeant after the war. He taught me to respect and how to use firearms. I teach my children the same principals he taught me. My 12 Year old at the time I taught to shoot my Winchester, I had targets set up at 200 yds. He was down to his last shot and I said make it count. He put that last round right between the silhouettes eyes. This is how you teach kids about weapons. And I always tell them, "Gun Control" is hitting your target.

Gun control advocates, like to use Britain as a poster candidate to demonstrate that gun control works. While they like to point out that gun murders are low, as a result of strict laws and a virtual gun ban, what they don`t like to say about gunless Britain is that the violent crime rate is one of the highest in the Western World, and that the overall murder rate is one of the highest in Western Europe. By comparison most of Britain`s Western European neighbors are some of the largest gun owning nations in the world, and yet these nations have some of the lowest violent crime and homicide rates on the planet. The Swiss, on a per capita basis, privately own nearly 8 times as many guns as the British, many of which are automatic assault rifles, and the Germans and French by comparison privately own nearly 5 times as many guns, and yet the overall murder rate in these three countries is nearly 40% lower than Britain`s. So if we believe what Piers Morgan is inferring, that more guns mean higher murder rates, why don`t these three countries, given that they have significantly more guns in circulation, have substantially higher murder rates than Britain?

According to the UN, the Swiss, Germans and French are ranked 3rd, 4th and 5th respectively in world in terms of private gun ownership. By comparison Britain is ranked 88th! (Swiss: 45.7 guns/100 people, Germany: 30.3 guns/100, France: 31.2 guns/100 vs. Britain: 6.7 guns/100 people).

What is driving violence in some countries, and not others, should be the question being asked, as it is clear in some large gun owning nations that guns are not the problem. Maybe we should look at the media’s role in perpetuating this cycle of violence, the 24 hour news media, Hollywood and violent video games, in addition to a possible link to some of the antidepressants that have been prescribed to many of the people who have committed these atrocities.

Agreed, we should be focusing on the cause rather than the object. These senseless killings will continue to happen until we get to the root of the problem. The most recent FBI stats reveal that out of the 13,000 annual homicides committed that just over 300 (3%) of them were committed with rifles or shotguns. Interestingly, most gun homicides are committed with handguns. Banning semiautomatic sporting rifles, or restricting the number of bullets a magazine can hold won't prevent these tragedies from occuring again. Our politicians are just sadly playing lip service to the problem.

The following news reports might suggest we already know why these tragedies are happening. At least these might provide a place from which to start.

Why is our country of 300,000,000 people always compared to other smaller countries like the UK. There is compare and they do not have the black and mexican gang wars that we do nothing about.

    January 8, 2013 at 12:17 pm | Report abuse | Reply
    • rcanuck

The comparison is done because it suits gun control advocates to cherry-pick the statistics. In Britain they say gun murders are low because they have strict gun laws and a virtual ban on gun ownership, however what they don't say is that Britain has one of the highest violent crime rates in the Western World. Revealing this point destroys the argument they make that guns are the source of violent crime and homicide.

It has nothing to do with "cherry-picking" anything.

        @Repeal the 2nd Amendment

That's why if you read my first post you'll see that I have used per capita numbers. If guns are the problem, why do most of Britain's close large gun owning European neighbors have homicide rates that are 40% lower? Please explain then based on these per capita numbers where the correlation is between high levels of gun ownership and homicides. Based on your premise that more guns mean more homicides, then the Swiss, Germans, French, Spanish and Italians would all have significantly higher murder rates than Britain, but they don't, they are all lower! Whether you like it or not you are more likely to get murdered or violently mugged in gunless Britain, than in any of these other large gun owning European countries.

Alex dominated Piers, he didnt let Piers play his little game, having victims on, a harvard professor to discredit him, it was far from a fair debate, Alex knew this and dominated... I recognize a lot of sheeple got scared but this immigrant stands on TV every night and tries to subvert the Bill of Rights you should get mad...

when will people understand, Gun laws simply take the guns out of the hands of the good guys not the bad guys, for as much as they tout the UK as beacon of peace (which it isnt) look at Mexico; stricter gun laws dont make you safer and they make the opposite and you can't legislate bad things from happening

Piers u have to stop wasting your time. The US has a gun culture mentality. The more violence the more they arm themselves. They have their guns but have lost their freedoms. Malls, schools, movie theatres, where are they safe?.

Forget securing the Mexico border, as a Canadian our border should be secured against 300 million american guns. 11,000 murders by guns, & who knows how many injures from guns. They simply don't get it no matter how many stats you reel off from other western countries.

As Pres Obama said 4 yrs ago 'they cling to their guns & religion".

Nothing Americans hate more then someone from outside the US trying to show them a better way.

They should stop worrying about foreign terrorists, they are terrorizing each other.

I say give every american a gun & let the games begin.

Mr. Morgan, You cling to your 35 gun deaths in England, what about the 11,227 people in 2011 that were robbed, beaten and r*p*d at gun point? Do these people not count because they didn't die due to a gun shot? That number is just from England and Wales, and was published by your House of Commons. That number comes from SN/SG/1940 last updated 30 January 2012.
I would also like to know if your gun control laws are working so well, why are UK police signing up in droves to aquire body armor that United States police and federal agencies are donating to your country. If there such a low chance of them being shot in the line of duty then why do so many of them feel that they need body armor?
What disturbs me the most about your country's gun control laws is that a man can be jailed for defending himself and his positions. You have a fellow in your jails that was put their because he shot two men who broke into his home, he killed one and wounded the other. Your country jailed him for defending himself. Based on this, your saying it is perfectly alright for some one to break into someones house and take that which they have not worked for or earn. Nothing wrong with doing that. But if you try to defend yourself your a criminal. Doesn't sound like a world that I would like to live in.

That is just stupid to say something like that. I am sure the guy in jail is there because of having an illegal firearm. There are laws in America that will put you in jail for defending yourself or your home. For instance, you can not set a lethal trap. I am sure there is more to the story than you have pointed out. There always is.

The man chased the thieves from his home with his shotgun. He was tried for murder and it was reduced to manslaughter. Those are the "crimes" he did time for, I watched an interview with him. His home had been robbed several times before and the police were no help to stopping it because of how remote he was from town.
The way I see it is if your foolish enough to break into someone's home you deserve what you get, anything else is ruling in favor of the criminal, how is that justice? Any time that more thought is given to the person who did the breaking in or robbing or violating of someone than then victim a great injustice is done law abiding citizens everywhere.

The same applies to the proposed gun bans. They don't affect criminals, criminals don't follow the law, that is why they are criminals. 54 million law abiding gun owners didn't shoot anyone yesterday. Why should their rights be stripped?
What most people are really missing about all of this is it is stripping freedom of the individual, freedom of choice. Once you start letting people tell you how you can live in one way they will start telling you how to live in other ways. Look at NYC, They have decided to ban sugary drinks larger than 16oz because it's the sugary drinks fault that people are fat. Taking away freedom of choice is the most un-American thing that one can do.
In NYC the police have taken up going into poor neighborhoods and stopping and searching people at random. Last time I checked being poor wasn't enough probable cause to for go the need of a warrant. But no one really cares because its just the poor people even though only 4 in 100 of those searches produce anything, 96 people have their rights violated because of where they live.
Also do you really think that no "assault" weapons will come into the country if they are banned? If that were true the bulk of the drugs that litter our streets all across the country wouldn't be here. Like I said before bans only affect law abiding citizens.

In the end when you look at the big picture what this boils down to is taking freedom of choice from law abiding citizen, something that should never be done.

Ian – I basically agree with you, BUT what most people in the U.S. don't understand that even if you have a license to carry in a certain state, that does NOT automatically allow you to kill an intruder in your own home......believe it or not. You'd better feel your life is endangered to the point death. In Ohio, they call it the gulp test, before you pull. You could very well end up in jail........just like England

Ken, I feel for you, sir. My state has whats called Castle Doctrine. Any place that has anything less than this is taking the criminals side. Once a person decides they are going break the law and force their way in to someone else's home or business I have no sympathy for their injury or death.

The Castle Doctrine's important bits reads as follows.

Defense of habitation; (here habitation means dwelling, motor vehicle, or place of business) A person is justified in the use of force which is intended or likely to cause death or great bodily harm only if:

        1. A person is breaking\has broken into your home in a violent and tumultuous manner, and you think that the intruder is going to assault you or someone else living there.
        2. A person who is not a member of the family or household and who unlawfully and forcibly enters the residence and you know it is an unlawful entry.
        3. The person using such force reasonably believes that the entry is made or attempted for the purpose of committing a felony therein and that such force is necessary to prevent the commission of the felony.
Basically, the way it works out is don't shoot them in the back, don't chase them after they leave the home.
As long as the police and DA see that you didn't go above and beyond those rules you won't even be tried.
From what I am reading on Ohio laws you have basically the same thing, except if your in public i.e. your car or something you have to try to get away before using deadly force. The main difference is in Ohio you have to go to trial to prove that they were breaking into your home and it was self-defense. DA's and police often let criminals go due to not enough evidence to convict, why bother with a trial with the evidence clearly shows self-defense, its a waste of taxpayers money, IMHO.

        January 9, 2013 at 12:06 am | Report abuse |
      • Ken

Ian – In OH., the rules apply the same as in the home has in public. If your house is being broken into, and you are home,
and you are being broken into with sole intent of robbery, not bodily harm, then you are obligated to let them rob you and not use deadly force to stop them. That's why it's called the gulp test because you have to allow them to show intent of not just bod-ally harm, but killing you, before you can react in the same manner....that is pulling the trigger....and then if you have your weapon out, whose to say the intruder was only defending his life? Honor your Castle Law as it is precious.

Wow.. Ken... I would move. I couldn't live some place that puts criminal rights so far above the victim's. I mean the next step from that is "hey breaking and entering and theft are legal, so long as you don't hurt the residents." I can't even begin to understand how someone could think that laws like that are logical. It basically says to criminals, "hey ,it's ok to steal just don't hurt anyone."

      • Alex Jones is a Loose Cannon

It actually makes complete and total sense. Theft should not result in death. The punishment does not fit the crime. There is no court that would sentence a person to death for stealing, so it stands to reason that it is not ok to shoot someone who is burglarizing your home. Call the police and follow the due process. The police are not allowed to shoot shoplifters. Sometimes the shoplifter gets away because we do NOT shoot people for stealing. Why should it be any different if someone breaks into your home to steal?

No reason to own them, except for the estimated 200,000 times per year they are used in the prevention of a violent crime, or the necessity of dealing with fast, tough, or numerous wildlife that are destructive to people's livelihoods (coyotes, groundhogs, gophers, feral pigs, the list goes on).

I don’t own a gun. Coming from a gun-free country, my initial inclination leans toward strict gun-control, especially banning assault weapons, but if it means only bad people who won’t comply with the law are going to have them, it gives me pause. (And I think you may need an AR-15, if you are a rancher living near the border, since drug lords can come at ya, right?) It makes me rethink when I see a study like ‘A chance of being murdered with a gun in Washington DC, which has enacted a number of strict gun-restriction laws, is 1 in 6,250, compared to 1 in 31,348 in Texas.’, I feel like I have to give a pro-gun perspective due consideration. Let’s bring all the data and statistics from both sides of the arguments, and let us analyze them intelligently.

One more point, you don't need a gun to kill someone. You can commit murder with a knife, screwdriver, hammer, rope, pantyhose, pillow, lamp, stick, sword, throwing stars, piece of glass, chop sticks, ink pen, or even your bare hands. Guns are not the problem if someone really wants to kill someone they will find away. Look how many people were killed (according to official story) with a box knife used to take over a plane and kill all those people. Again I say if you want to kill then anything can be used as a weapon to do it. Guns are not the problem.

If people get in accidents at high speeds cars are not banned, limitations may be enacted. You can't drive 120 mph. You can't drive 95 mph. If limitations are placed so that one has smaller capacity ammo clips that isn't banning guns. When they test cars and find that a particular car flips at 50 mph and they change the car that isn't banning cars. If people don't have access to machine guns that is a limit it is not taking away all guns everywhere.

Here is an interesting fact about organized crime and oppression in British regimes. British regimes are using criminal harassment and mobbing networks, participants, for these anyone they target to repress through criminal harassment, homelessness, and radar assaults aimed at inflicting deadly cancers is a "deranged person", and being involved in oppression aka Marie Antoinette they advocate a defenceless population. .. Alex Jones researches all his information and tells the truth about what is really going on. Alex always tells people to do your own research and don't just believe what you are told.

There is a reason Alex has so many listeners. We are people who have realized that something is very wrong with what main stream media has been telling us and that the facts they offer don't add up. We are free thinkers who question what we are told and look for the truth behind the white washing and out right lies main stream media tells us.

Alex may come off as a bit brash but he truly is very passionate about what he says. He wants people to wake up and see what is happening right under their nose. He wants you to do your own research and discover the truth for yourself. He sees the danger of where this country is headed and is trying to do his best to get the word out that something is very wrong here before it is too late.

I ask you all to really think about what Alex Jones said look at it from all angles, and do some research into on your own. Don't look to main stream media for answers, look for the truth for yourself. Go to government websites and read what the bills really say, talk to people in the military that are being trained to take your guns and murder or imprison those that won't give them up. Read the police and military manuals.

The more freedoms you give up for security makes you neither safe nor free.

    Hiding the Cause and Misinformation

    Q. The media focused on "a deranged person" and mental health but the experts claim that this was not the cause, so what was the cause?

Newtown, Connecticut: Hurricane Sandy, Sandy Hook Elementary, New Jersey, An Organized Crime Crime Act of Terror to Advocate Gun Control?

"we urge the media and professionals who participate in speculative interviews about the motives of the accused shooter to refrain from misleading comments about autism and other neurodevelopmental disabilities. ... (M)isinformation could easily trigger increased prejudice and misunderstanding."

    1. In Marc Lepine's case the media focused on an Arab Father, while the sociologists, the experts, focused on homelessness. (racial discrimination and prejudice)

    2. In Adam Lanza's case the media focused on Mental Illness, while the experts claim that this was not the cause. (discrimination against the mentally ill and prejudice)

Alrighty, joethenerd, I'll bite. Who's performing this psychiatric evaluation? And when will it be performed? And who else gets to have one?

I think that we do it for everyone who wants to have a driver's license. After all, while a motor vehicle may not be designed to kill, it is still 1-3 tons of metal, plastic, glass, and explosive fuel capable of moving at relatively incredible velocities; you can even fill up plastic tanks with more fuel and carry them in the back, or modify the car to have a larger gas tank, larger engine, or heavy, more all-terrain wheels. A car can get a lot of places and potentially kill a lot of people.

But it's not designed to be a weapon... of course! How could I be so stupid? Because it's not designed to be a weapon, it's perfectly ok for someone with psychiatric issues to use! Why don't we let anyone who's passed a couple of classes and could snap at any time (argument against legal gun ownership) operate 2 tons of machinery capable of going 180 miles per hour!

On that note, the fastest highway speed limit in America is 85 miles per hour. Why does the car need to go 180? Let's put limiters on that. And we don't want a big explosion if the gas tank gets ruptured, so we should definitely limit the size of that. Drunk driving and texting while driving are still big issues, so why don't we make every car have a Faraday cage built into the chassis to disable cellular signals, and a breathalyzer hooked up to the ignition to stop it from working if you're drunk? Yeah! Safety first! I mean, anyone with a little mechanical and electrical knowledge can uninstall a limiter, install a new gas tank, disable the charge of the Faraday cage, and get someone else to blow the breathalyzer for them, but it's illegal! Someone would have to be some sort of criminal to do that!

To hell with you "world citizens", all the decent lives on earth have been created by the individual efforts of single nations , respecting and encouraging the affluence of the productive individual! Can you not read or listen to the peoples of the earth who have been enslaved, killed, and starved by the ideology of "collectivism. Example; Russia, China, North Korea, and all of Eastern Europe, you could get your throat cut suggesting socialism to the former Eastern Bloc nations!

John Lenon was not an idiot! He had access to millions of young people whom he could influence. He was a political activist who was on to the industrial military complexes agenda also the black ops that the CIA engaged in to start wars that were profitable for the mega banks. His Assasinated was a product of MK Ultra a CIA assassination program. Our government has been overrun with banker backed thugs who are destroying our wonderful country. They hate peace, love, and understanding. All they know is violence at the end of a gun barrel. This is why Americans need their guns. They need them so they don't end up like John Lennon. The second ammendment was enacted so the people would be ble to protect themselves from a tyrannical government not to go hunting so you kooks who continue with that narrative leave our beautiful nation and crawl back under the rock you came from. You're not welcome here anymore.

I would love to see Piers debate a real intellectual on gun control named Stefan Molyneux. Go on Piers. Have this guy on your show. He won't yell or scream at you like Alex Jones. He's quite a civil and pleasant gentlemen. However, I can guarantee you will be thoroughly defeated on the issue of gun control. Here's what has been said of Stefan Molyneux of Freedomain Radio recent ground-breaking recitation and analysis of all relevant gun control arguments. Piers, the consensus out there is that will you find his conclusions are virtually unassailable. Stefan points out that guns cut down on violence, save lives and property and help protect the public. Over 2.5 million times per year, guns prevent robberies and armed assaults on the public. Stefan’s coverage of this always difficult subject, especially in the aftermath of the horrid Newtown Connecticut school shooting, puts the matter into perspective and helps us to understand that the best way to stop gun crime is by allowing honest law abiding citizens to responsibly own and carry weapons. How about it, Piers?

Organized Crime and Acts of Terror to Advocate Defenceless Population

They use symbolism and influence of the mind that can leave clues, in this case: Hurricane Sandy, Sandy Hook Elementary, and New Jersey ..

I believe organized crime is committing acts of terror to advocate a defenceless population, and Gabrielle may have been a victim of one of these.

The Federal Judge's last name was "Rolls" and organized crime criminal harassment participants use these terms when people are faced with criminal allegations "roll over" "turn over" linked to organized crime subjugation. Jared also showed different patterns linked to mobbing victims.

It is obvious that Piers carefully picks his guests so that he can make his points. A couple weeks ago he had a pro-gun redneck from Texas on who was saying stuff like every Teacher should have a gun, Principles should have AR-15s, and even Nurses should be armed. I'm pro-gun, but I don't agree with any of that. Piers picks his pro-gun guests so he can make a fool of them to drive home his points. Same deal with Alex Jones. Piers has an Agenda. That's not news or at all being helpful. Why not have a real guest like Wayne Lapierre on the show? Oh, and after they kicked Alex Jones off the last segment, they were discussing the NRA position and were completely misrepresenting it by saying the NRA wants every teacher armed. Stop with the lying, they never said that.

Alex Jones is EXACTLY WHY we need GUN CONTROL. He thinks if he yells loud enough and portrays all Americans as gun lovers i.e. "why don't you come to American and I'll teach you how to hunt and be a real American" that he can BULLY his way to get what he wants. WHY? Because that is what the NRA has modeled and has been successful in doing so (so far). Specifically, the use of fear tactics devoid of facts, repeating the same old rhetoric, buying off politicians and screaming in people's faces Well, I see Alex Jones as MENTALLY UNSTABLE and believe he should not be allowed to own a gun given that he cannot control his temper, even on national TV. I am a PROUD AMERICAN, don't hunt, don't want to hunt, and don't define myself as an American based on my pastimes. NOW is the time for America to come together for serious dialogue...not temper figure out how we are going to save our children and citizens from needless deaths. Good try Piers at a civil dialogue. However, I do resent that this paranoid lunatic had his 15 minutes of fame on National TV and subsequent news articles. He DOES NOT represent me, or MANY OTHER AMERICANS, for whom I know. Could we put together a panel of people that could actually have a dialogue.

You exhibit the same sins as Alex Jones. You use overbearing and inflammatory language meant to driven a pathos-based argument in an attempt to overwrite logic. Piers Morgan is guilty of this as well, as displayed by recent interviews during which he shouted down and openly insulted gun rights advocates who remained calm and civil, while allowing those whom he agreed with a quiet floor for any argument they wanted to make.

We know how to save our citizens from needless deaths. The most conservative estimate for the number of times a legally-owned civilian firearm is used in the prevention of a criminal act is 200,000 per year. The most liberal estimate is 2,000,000. The vast majority of these acts do not even involve the discharge of the firearm.

In relation to rampage killings like the Aurora and Newtown attacks, per DOJ statistics, the average number of people killed:
when a rampage killing is stopped by the police: 12.7
when a rampage killing is stopped by an armed civilian: 2.7

I'm all for civil debate, but please leave your emotion at the door. It has no place here.

Yes and in case you, in your elongated infinite wisdom missed the mass murder of Americans at Waco, it wasnt just guns used to kill innocent Americans at Waco, the US government , filled with deranged progressives used military hardware and tanks to kill its own people! If your brainwashing in the American school system leads you to believe and trust in GOVERNMENT to be your friend and protector, you are badly mistaken. Gov't is by nature oppressive and ever growing at the expense of individual freedom, and if you want to avoid violence, stay in Europe because patriotic Americans will not allow militant socialism to enslave us, and more importantly, if you are white you're better off there because the "racist in chief" has very militant plans to subjugate white folks!

You act as though you are revealing information that gun rights advocates and legal gun owners don't understand. A gun will destroy what it is aimed at. We are perfectly aware of this. As are those that would threaten us or our rights. This is why a responsible gun owner (which is the appropriate description for about 98% of gun owners) does not draw their weapon unless it will defuse the situation, not exacerbate it. Additionally, there are many reasons to possess the capability for handheld destruction. Example:

      Let's get ready to rumble!
In the white corner, we have Gabriella H! Gabriella is a female (presumed from name) 16 year old high school student who believes she understands the secret to world peace through disarmament of citizens!
In the red corner, with a combined weight of 1000 pounds, are 5 promising gang members who have decided to beat, r4pe, and kill Gabriella as part of an gang initiation ritual!

This match is a little unorthodox, as there Gabriella is at a severe mass and numerical disadvantage. However, this match was randomly selected based on inner city criminal activities. Now, in accordance with Gabriella's wishes, and local laws, this is a no weapons match! FIGHT!

Oh lord! 2 of the gang members have pulled out illegal firearms! How is this happening? It's almost as if by being willing to suffer the much harsher legal penalty associated with r4pe or murder, they're not concerned with owning and using an illegal weapon! Where is the ref? What? He's an average of 15 minutes away at any given time? But how can anyone stop this heinous act?

I’m neither pro-gun nor anti-gun, but I completely understand the feelings of those who are totally annoyed by Mr. Morgan. He is a panderer to those whom he agrees with, and offensive to those whom he disagrees with. In his former shows, he insulted a pro-gun guest, “you are an unbelievably stupid man, aren’t you?” (And the guest was nowhere near as aggressive as Mr. Jones.)

It seems to me Mr. Morgan’s intention is only to invalidate pro-gun argument. Mr. Morgan is more focused on beating others with different opinions and imposing his own conclusion than putting various views all on the table to help the audience examine them in an intellectual way. And he calls himself a journalist. (sigh)

Mr Morgan needs to go back to his own "gunless" nation" which is no longer safe for regular citizens to walk the streets as crime has escalated since gun confiscation! In recent days, the Brits have made thousands of videos begging the American people to fight gun theft by the "unamerican" federal government! Why can deranged progressives just simply listen to the voices of people all over the world who have been subjugated, and in many cases murdered after having their only mode of self protection forcibly removed by government! Yes, Alex is a hot blooded reactionary, we will probably see the day soon where the sheep, the fence riders, and the naive start begging for the "hot blooded reactionaries" to defend them from gov't tyranny! It happens in every conflict, and there will be conflict if the "fraud in the White House" tries to confiscate guns!

There needs to me more balance to this debate on Morgan's show. So far he has carefully chosen gun advocates who are known for their extreme views to try and paint a picture that most gun owners are unreasonable, and at worst crazy. Well there are extremes views held at the other end of the spectrum on this debate, maybe Morgan should invite Donald Kaul who wrote a piece for the Des Moines Examiner last week, calling for the death of gun owners to explain his position.

Sadly, EVERYONE turning in their weapons will not keep ANYONE from dying by means of firearms. Do you not get this? If you truly, truly don't, then there is absolutely NO hope. For you, or this country. The only thing happens by everyone turning all of their weapons does, is make it easier for criminals to do what criminals do. Try working it from the parents on down. Or maybe decreasing police response time. You want to give up your weapons? By all means, be my guest. Do NOT expect people like, also a responible gun owner (and in the military, actually trained in their use and safety), to protect you when the police take 20-30 minutes to respond to your call for help.

It is okay we talk gun control while banksters send our "kids" half way across the damn planet to shoot up nationa that never really threatened us to begin with? In case you are too dumb to know, and you probably are, most involved in 911 were Saudis. besides, 911 was a criminal act, not actually an act of war. We invaded nations on the pretense of them threatening our freedoms. Yeah right. . .They are interested in a bunch of TV watching drones munching away Doritos. Giving up your 2ND Admendment right willingly does no service to men and women who toiled under tyranny for centuries so that a nation like ours could be born. Willingly giving up your rights means ensuring later that your great grandkids can return to toiling under tyranny. When you think about it, if you so willingly give up your right for something that will never change (nuts will still get guns after they are banned) then really you are a traitor.

Sadly, he was so worked up that it was incredibly difficult to follow any of his rants. By the end, I'm not sure who is "good" and who is "bad." Why is it that we cannot have a civil, balanced conversation, showing all perspectives? Lets take in different POVs and find a solution that is reasonable. Instead, those who think like Mr. Jones and to some degree, the Arizona Sheriff Arpaio, scare the crap out of me. Let me say this ALL Americans do not feel this way. Should we take the comments of a "passport holding" man that is not an actual citizen of the US? He says in the interview, his "2nd ammendment". He has no 2nd ammendment. Unless he is refering to a British one, (doubt it would be the same as ours). It really is a simple matter. If you don't like guns, don't buy one. If you feel really, really deeply about it, stop associating with people that have guns. Just because YOU don't like them, don't expect everyone to feel the same as you. As in religion. If you don't like a way a certain religion is, DON'T PRACTICE IT! If you don't like a certain TV show, DON'T WATCH IT! But please, don't force your views on others. That is exactly what is happening in the Middle East right now by rouge Regimes. Is their situation good? I own guns. Do you consider me a "gun nut"?

The problem stems from the parents. Growing up in the 70's and 80's, we didn't have all of these electronics devices that distract us. Most everyone I know, (of course, there are exceptions), had dinner at home, with their parents, free of distractions. If you were a messed up kid, it was pretty easy to tell. Nowadays, parents don't take an active role in their kids lives. How is a parent supposed to know if their kid is deranged, if the kid, (and most time, the parents), have their faces plated in a cell phone or computer?

Time for the all of the "parents" out there to start stepping up and taking responsibility for their kids. Just because you have kids doesn't mean you can be a parent. But, sadly, the parents will not do this. In fact, unfortunetly, I feel it will get worse. As long as everyone keeps villainizing the gun. It IS a good scapegoat for the parents, though. They probably feel better knowing the scent has been thrown off to other issues.

Gun control is wrong however you can have your opinion unless of course you think it is alright we slaughter people in the Middle East with our assault weapons and drones. Do you condone the wars we are illegally fighting? If you do you are a hypocrite and deserve none of the freedoms we are suppose to have. It is really, really scary that people like you vote. You have no clue. The Swiss have guns. They are alright with it. We are a violent culture and too much mindless TV dribble just feeds the confusion. Less talk about guns and more about our misplaced anger in this country. I don't own a gun but I know the 2nd Admend. was set up to protect me from in house oppresion and since my family was hauled off to camps in post World War Two Georgia (USSR) without even the chance to fight back I think I will keep my right to bear arms, whether I choose to or not.

I would like Piers Morgan and all others that compare the US to other countries like... Britain to understand that over 300M people live in the US, six times the population of Britain; so numbers alone tell you that crime will be lower in a place where there aren't as many people to commit it. In a country where the government has absolute control over guns the number of deaths by gun violence should be zero, not just lower than that of a larger country where it's citizens have the right to bear arms.

@devinator -- To the families that lost their loved ones in the mass shootings, I offer my support to help change societal rules to ensure guns are taken out of the hands of gun-nuts. I hope there are enough of us to get the job done because I believe with all of my heart that we are the solution rather than the problem.

Thank you Piers for attempting to state the obvious. I have always said that the one thing that can destroy true freedom in America is people insisting on their "freedoms" (the 2nd Amendment). This is an amazing but sad irony.
Sitting at lunch the other day we noticed several people with guns strapped to their belt and we felt "less free" and wondered if paranoia and fear are the new America. The statistics from every country of the world, not just Britain, all speak the obvious and we just can't be this dumb as a nation. Let us use intelligence rather than traditions founded on false ideas (what the 2nd Amendment was intended for) to govern ourselves.

Actually Jen, the one thing that really threatens freedom in this country is people like you having the vote. If you question people feeling idealistic about defending their freedoms then you don't have a damn clue what freedom means and how it should never be confused with comfort. My grandfather was in Estonia during WW2. Most of Europe had already been disarmed. Governemnts crave power, not helping people. Trying telling a native of this country that our governemnt helped his/her people out on the plains. You have too much faith in the system and it is scary you vote. The mainstream morons have had their say too long and since we allowed monied interests to steep us in Vietnam without doing more than march for fashion it has been a long downhill slide since. If you think banning guns is alright yet you condone the drone killing we have done during two admins. then you are nothing short of a hypocrite and incase you are too dumb to know, children in Iraq and Afghanistan cry and bleed just like kids in Sandy Hook.

I'd like Gabby Giffords to talk to this man-he obviously feels threatened by someone taking his guns. But I think that
Gabby, a victim of gun violence, along with others, could help convince this man that we don't want to take guns away, but to improve the gun laws, today. I think the victims like Christina Taylor-Green and the others that we salute today would smile down and appreciate it.

It is this kind of fear and paranoia that is more of a threat to our republic than endorsement for gun control. Thomas Jefferson wrote the 2nd amendment. He also said that it should be revisited every twenty years. I always wonder what grades in history people received who spout this vitiolic nonsense.

What Alex Jones has is called passion. Something most Americans confuse with Black Friday and the NFL. I was a card carrying Socialist for 20 years however I would rally behind a guy like Alex Jones anyday rather then allow bankers destroy what thinking humans have fought so hard for since the dawn of time. The "bill paying baby makers" of suburbia have been ruling the roost for too long now and have down a horrible job. As we toil for an ever shrinking dollar under oppresive laws like the Patriot Act our children die in two unneccessary wars provided by two ends of the same party, the Money Party. Bravo for passion! It is good to see at least one American still sucks in oxygen.

I'm not the one to believe things without facts and i think that if Alex is right about what he said i probably would act the same way he did. History proves that governments can become corrupt and people will die fighting for there lives it has happens over and over again because people don't believe it will happen and they trust the people in government. That is the purpose of the bill of right so that the people and individual states can protect themselves from tyrannical government. i know that anyone against the second amendment either are ignorant to history and just don't understand the importance of it for a freed people or they are traitors to all Americans. We can't stop people from dieing nor children even if the 2nd amendment was removed people will find other ways to kill. Maybe the problem isn't gun but the person doing the killing what if one of these people that you would have never guessed would be a killer became the president then you have a whole society that cannot protect themselves.

It is a safegaurd that allows us to group together and run the bums out if they take too much power. The Swiss still have guns and all is well there. Could it be that there is a connection to morons beating each other up on Black Friday, too much TV and America being a violent culture. What sort of society have we created here in America when a large percentage of the population don't feel safe unless they own a semi-automatic military style weapon? How have we come to this point? Why don't other 1st world countries have this same fear. Maybe it is the 2nd amendment that is the root of this problem? Is this the type of country our for-fathers dreamed off, one when most people live in fear?

The government is already taking away our right and freedoms, does owning an AR15 stop this? When is it time to stop voting and starting shooting?

why is it so hard to point out the fact that gun violence is down in the UK but overall violent crime is through the roof. this furthers the coloration that criminal will always find a means regardless and the law abiding citizen will continue to be the victim. lets completely skate around the fact that the US has become a drug addicted (legal and prescribed) which has zero moral value of life due to the moral value of main stream media. It is not guns it is people. people with little value of themselves and others around them. quit looking for excuses for WHY a crazy person did something crazy. it is not lack of gun laws it is lack of a bleeding heart society to enforce reparations and responsibilities that go against our moral fabric as a society. it is time for Americans to grow thicker skin and punish those which deserve it.

I live in Australia and some 20 years ago Martin Bryant walked into a cafe and gunned down 35 people in Tasmania. Our Prime Minister (ie American President in your country) decided on a gun amnesty. Every Australian handed back their guns and now I can say we have barely had a gun related murder equivalent to the Tasmanian mass murder. Australia certainly doesnt have the problems of USA, i can walk any street at night without fear of being killed or robbed. The world is laughing at the USA congress who cannot make a simple decision to ban guns despite their own people continually killing each other, not just in mass murders but daily with individuals. The USA has the highest gun related deaths outside of a war zone than any other country in the world, how tragic. Alex Jones has made his people & many people he represents to look absolutely stupid, I mean is he serious or CRAZY! Is he the next mass murderer in USA he seems so passionate about guns & killing people, what a PSYCHO! The world is laughing at Alex Jones and are standing in salute to Piers Morgan for maintaining composure during his interview with this madman. Guns kill people faster than a knife, how can anyone draw such a stupid moronic comparison.

We do not care how it is in Australia. This is a problem being discussed here in America. When we want an Aussie's opinion, we would probably ask. If you do not like the way things shape up over here, by all means, stay there. It sounds like you are better off there anyways. You are a different people, with different beliefs, and country structure. DO NOT compare anything we do here in the USA with your country. It is actually apples and oranges.

And by the way... I like how you said "we have barely had a gun related murder equivalent to the Tasmanian mass murder". I do notice you could not say "no more gun related murders equivalent to the Tasmanian mass murder". So gun amnesty has done what exactly? Plain and simple, yes or no, has it ended gun violence in Australia? If not, then what are you contributing to this conversation?

@Brenda Good enough. Maybe you could answer the second to last question I asked him then. Because you, being the voter, the decider, want what Australia has. Has it ended their gun violence the way you want it to over here? Take into account the fact that, like I said, we have a different culture and structure over here. Not to mention a HUGE population difference. Do they have NO gun violence over there? With no guns being allowed in private hands. Yes or no? Do you honestly, deep down in your heart, think it will end all gun violence here if we gave up all of our guns? Time to be a realist, not an idealist.

this is not the only answer. something else will replace a gun as a means. without a comprehensive full spectrum approach nothing will be solved. history and statistic have already proven this. those that say gun crimes will go down are not telling the WHOLE story. the real question should be posed is will VIOLENT crime go down. what is your argument for Chicago? most stringent gun laws and highest murder rate. what would the purpose of more laws to control people that are not breaking the law if we do not enforce and punish those who break the law. it needs to go both ways.

Ya know? It's kind of interesting. Pretty much everyone on here keeps refering to "gun nuts" being the problem. I don't see as many "gun nuts" on here as "anti-gun nuts". Amazing how the majority of the people that have this problem with guns, are the biggest armchair politicians that know what's best for the ENTIRE country. The situation would make me laugh uncontrolably, if it wasn't for the pure pathetic nature of it. You armchair politicians are just like the real politicians, let's put a wad of partially chewed bubble gum into the damn to repair the leak. That should do it. Never mind what happens after that. ALL of you would be the first to criticize the government for not letting people have guns to protect themselves when things get stupid, (and believe me, things would get stupid). Ya know, that whole lame little reaction for every action thing. But don't think of that... Seriously... Just go back to your opinion (sorry, other people's, or the media's, opinion you take for your own). You sure know what's best for THIS country. Man, you should all be president... Imagine...

Alex Jones was almost arrested at the Austin airport on his way to see Piers Morgan because he initially refused to take off his shoes at security. He ranted, as usual, and, as usual, he was eventually forced to comply with law enforcement officers. Just like you ALL will eventually be forced to comply with registration of your firearms and to submit to psych screenings in order to renew your annual permit. Wow! With paranoid delusional people like Alex Jones running around with guns I think I will get one to protect myself from HIM. The government at all levels is not doing a very good job of representing the majority but to equate our country with Venezuela or Nazi Germany is crazy. He sounds like a survivalist and he had a bad experience with Prozac.

Its sad that you have to resort to gross distortion and character assasination to defend your views. Piers was citing statistics on gun 'victims', which is around 11,000 in the US., not gun related deaths. The total gun related deaths in the US was almost 30,000! This includes accidents and suicide. And you know, however many thousand it is, it is way too many when countries with sane laws about gun control have fewer than 200 gun victims. I care more about those many thousands of murdered people than I do about being able to shoot off an un-Godly weapon whenever I please. And where are the Christians in all this debate? They should absolutely deplore these horrible weapons and the utter horror they inflict on people.

I have seen several comments suggesting that it is Piers Morgan's fault that Alex Jones exploded and played the part of a wingnut. That is sort of like saying that a a wifebeater is really not to blame for beating his wife.......because she made him mad. Alex is responsible for his own behavior, and he is clearly a hothead and lacks self control. I thought he was going to physically assault Piers. Alex Jones has 50 guns and has displayed a frightening lack of self control. SCARY!!!

Why rely on mere assault weapons? If protection from our tyrannical government is to be truly effective, we must all be armed with nuclear weapons. After all, the second amendment does not specify the type of arms we have the right to bear.

It's no accident CNN looked long and hard to find a lunatic as abrasive and off his rocker as Piers.
CNN as such, is banking on reality TV sensationalism, to sell ad spots and time instead of having a

Since Larry King Left CNN and Piers took over, I very rarely watch CNN anymore due to Piers

Some 10 years ago Alex Jones was a minor celebrity on cable access TV in Austin. At the same time I was the director and producer for my church's weekly program on public access TV. To maintain your credentials to use Austin's public access TV you must attend instructional meetings on a wide range of topics including technical and in the case I am about to recount legal requirements for use of material on TV. For example, things like obtaining releases from musical talent and the line between televising something that is public vs. private. The meeting was scheduled from 10 to noon on a Saturday morning. Mr. Jones was combative with the instructor from the moment he began to talk. Mr. Jones voiced his opinion as fact on every topic. The poor instructor could barely get out a sentence without Mr. Jones making the topic about his views. Perhaps that works for a minor, local celebrity but on the national stage nothing seems to have changed for Mr. Jones. He appears to me to be more interested in voicing his views and winning an argument than being the least bit thoughtful. I doubt he can order a cheese toast sandwich in a restaurant without debating the waiter.
So, my opinion of Mr. Jones and his style of discourse is in my view the problem with guns, abortion and many other topics we face today. But, I doubt shouting and interrupting and bullying will solve any of them. But, our media feeds on this type of debate. It doesn't matter if you are talking about CNN, MSNBC, Fox or any of the Sunday morning news shows. I am woefully tied of it. It is time for it to stop. It will only stop when you turn it off. If you want change. If you want your view integrated into our social landscape, go to your local precinct meetings. Get involved in some cause at the grass roots level. But please don't give any more energy to this garbage that is passed off as news and commentary and then suddenly becomes "its just entertainment" when it results in something bad like a participants suicide. Please, I am begging you!

The best way to prevent gun deaths is to treat depression and other mental illness, teach children not to sell or use illegal drugs, treat drug addiction, and have police concentrate on enforcing drug laws. However, the gun control lobby says that we should spend billions of dollars on gun registration and gun licensing instead of using the money to treat depression and combat drugs.

The important thing is to see Alex Jones not as an individual idiot (it is perfectly legal to be an idiot in America) but as a psychological type.

      1. Desperately needs to be seen as "right" every time, all the time.

      2. Desperately needs to be seen as the only one who knows "the facts."

      3. Needs to alway blame everything they don't like as a "conspriacty". Us vs. them.

We all know people like this (especially if you live in Texas or the South). It is a pschological need to restablish their manhood after the fall of the south and the Emperor pater familias.

Piers Morgan does not know the difference between an assault weapon and a assault style weapon.Dressing up a car to make it look like a hot rod does not make it so.The same applies to guns and piers needs to do some research and actually learn what a machine gun is. We have the right to bear arms and taking all the guns away does not solve the problem. Criminals do not care about the law! We as citizens of the United States of America have a duty to defend ourselves from harm.Time to improve background checks, psychological evaluations.

Exactly right. Those of us watching your ridiculous debates can't believe how Americans want more & more guns. They need a culture change. Stop selling guns in Walmart. Stop giving your kids guns as Xmas presents. Americans have been desencitized to guns. They are all so scared, each one ready to shoot before being shot.
I don't have a gun, don't know anybody who does. Never seen a gun show, never seen a gun store. As far as I know Walmart doesn't have a gun isle (not that I've looked).
Maybe the next generation will get it, because your country seriously needs a culture shift. Every western country is looking at you with total bewilderment.

Newsflash other countries have the same movies, video games & mental health issues strange how other countries don't kill 12,000 of their fellow citizens a yr.

Texas carry a concealed weapon anywhere you want. 300 million guns & counting. You don't think that is a recipe for disaster?

Again a culture change will take yrs, but you must start somewhere. City by city, state by state.

That's exactly right! And I was one of the silent ones before Newtown. Then I made it my New Years Resolution to no longer be silent and to speak up loud and often. It is only a small minority of fanatics that want easy availability of weapons of mass destruction like AR-15s and high capacity clips. The rest of the sane country, gun owners and non-gun owners want rational regulation of these weapons. It does not mean responsible hunters and owners of regular guns (e.g., non-military, people killing weapons) will lose their guns. It just means that we want to stop the access to these horrible weapons that never should have been allowed on the street in the first place. It means that people who value the lives of innocent children and the 30,000 annual victims of gun crime more than being able to rip off 50 rounds without changing clips want to get sanity back into our gun laws and regulations.

Gun fanatics constantly proclaim that the government is trying to take away their "right" to bear arms. It is time that those of us who advocate improved measures of control over gun ownership proclaim our rights. Do we not have the right to life and liberty as much as a gun owner has the right to concealed carry? If my neighbor has automatic weapons in his/her house, do I not have the right to know this so that I can make my own decision about allowing my child to enter that house? Gun fanatics are not the only Americans who have rights! It is time to take back the America that belongs to all of us, not just the fanatical, bullying few!

we have a population of 311 million people, the percentage of the population that dies of gun related incidents is .327 percent with us being "a gun crazy society in need of change. Piers Morgan is from Great Britain, which as of now has a gun related death percentage of .399... The reason so many fewer people die is because their population is 62 million. About 1,020,000 people die here each year from guns out of this massive population. Also, Canada has 213,000 gun related deaths out of a population of 34 million which is .617 percent, you have more gun related crime than both the US and GB by almost two times. Facts don`t lie.

And ..... to further support the stats: According to the U.S. Census Bureau, as of July 2011 the population of the United States was 311,591,917. According to, there have been an average of 9,470 gun related homicides each year for the past decade in the U.S. So, your chances as a U.S. citizen of being killed by a gun is currently one in thirty two thousand nine hundred three (1/32,903). Odds that undeniably favor you will live your entire life without dying from a gun. However, for those 1 in 32,903 that must confront the barrel of a gun – here is another fact: After a 911 call it takes police on average between 5 and 15 minutes to respond – this assumes you can even get a 911 call out when being attacked. If you are unarmed while waiting for the police to arrive you are likely to end up one of the statistics mentioned above. However, if you are armed, well, then, you may be lucky enough to fit into a better statistic: every year in America guns are used 2.5 million times in personal defense against criminal attack – that equates to approximately 6,850 times per day that a gun is used for self defense. That means that guns in America are 80 times more often used to protect than to take lives. These statistics speak for themselves – you either get this or not.

Now the Bushmaster is a pea shooter. Just the other day, it was a killing machine. Which is it? It can't be both but your argument about fighting the govt is noted. The thing is those in govt don't want to fight an armed population, which is why they are trying to gradually and slowly disarm the population, which they will do.
Their desire to use this unfortunate school shooting to make a big leap forward may have not worked as well as they hoped but they know time is on their side. If they have to wait, they will.

@Pierre and @PROUD CANADIAN, As an American, I am embarrassed by our "gun problem". I think (and hope) that these gun-nut extremists are the extremely loud vocal minority. It is going to take the grassroots work of parents and grandparents to get gun reform addressed. Our biggest obstacle is not these lunatics like Alex Jones; it is the NRA with their huge amount of wealth. But NRA members are also parents and grandparents, and they are not all nut jobs like Alex Jones. We cannot endure more slaughter of our children. We have an illness, and we need to take our medicine and get gun reform laws. Most of us Americans are not like Alex Jones. If you are listening to the news today, it looks like parents and grandparents put the squeeze on Wal-Mart. This morning, good ole Wal-Mart was "too busy" to attend the gun reform task force meeting with Joe Biden at the White House. But within a couple of hours of that announcement, the changed their minds and have said they will attend. Wal-Mart says they did not realize the expectations that they attend the meeting. I am betting that they were reminded of the "expectation" by hordes of parents and grandparents. Anyone who is unwilling to help solve the problem is part of problem!

This gun debate is so foreign to me, I can't understand it for the life of me. Why does anybody need guns? I'm not sure how this equates to more freedom. The only thing guns do is lead to 11000-12000 murders per year in the US.
Just look at any other civilized country in the world (Canada, UK, Germany, etc) and how they handle guns. More gun control = less gun violence, as smple as that!
And I don't see any of the citizens of these countries having less freedom. I will never understand it, as most people in the rest of the civilized world cannot understand it.

The patriot act and the NDAA made sure of that. There are thousands of laws and statutes on the books in every state that infringe our right every day. The politicians don't care about us they only care about the power they posses. They will never get away with taking our second amendment without resistance.
