Clips from Last Night: Alex Jones on his petition to deport Morgan; Alan Dershowitz on Jones being an "exhibit"

On Monday evening, as part of a program that has garnered wide-spread attention, Piers Morgan welcomed Alex Jones for a spirited exchange on gun control, and more specifically, the official White House petition created to deport the British television presenter for his outspoken views.

Returning to his host's chair, Morgan sat quietly and respectfully, as the "Infowars" personality launched an energetic tirade, defending his right to bear arms:

"The gun doesn't kill people. Do you understand you're not going to pull on America's heart strings? They know your script. You're not going to get our guns."

A co-creator of the document which has now reached more than 106,000 signatures, Jones explained why he feels so passionately about the petition, and his responsibility to protect the Second Amendment:

"We did it as a way to bring attention to the fact that we have all of these foreigners," said the radio host, when asked why he wants Morgan deported. "The Russian government, the official Chinese government – Mao [Zedong] said 'political power grows out of the barrel of a gun,' he killed about 80 million people because he's the only guy who had the guns. So we did it to point out that this is globalism."

Following Jones' energized appearance, Morgan later welcomed Alan Dershowitz to offer his reaction:

"We lawyers refer to people like that not as witnesses but as exhibits. He was an exhibit, like a piece of evidence. You just see him speaking and you say to yourself, 'I don't want that man to have a gun,'" explained the Harvard law professor. "I wouldn't feel comfortable having an argument with him in his home where he had access to his 50 weapons, and if he got really mad at something I said, or if I disputed his contentions, or I told him he was lying about the FBI statistics, and that he was lying about the claim more guns equal less crime, I would be worried he would grab for his semiautomatic and try to resolve it."

Watch the clips and listen to the interviews as Jones displays that specific type of behavior that would lead Dershowitz to refer to him as an "exhibit."

If guns don't kill people, people WITH GUNS do kill people.

Erin Burnett has her "days since we lost our AAA credit rating". How about a people killed and injured by guns since Newtown, CT count displayed on your show?

How about comparing the gun deaths in the USA during the Iraq war with the US lives lost in Iraq during the same period.

Piers Morgan is a low level TV personality that should be shipped back to Britain! He is a loser at best that will lie on TV ever chance he gets, which I guess is everyday for an hour! Anyone that belongs to a country that still has a King and Queen should be taken out of his/her misery! LOL!!! This Jones guy is as big a loser and Piers so this "interview" is a none issue!

What do you think of what he was saying, instead of your personal opinion of the man.Who says it has little to do with what is being said, millions of americans agree with him,and you have to admire anyone who puts themselves out there like he does.Im not a fan of his and whether we like it or not,no matter where he is from,he has the right to say it.Countering his arguement would be a better tactic than hurling abuse.By the way,the royals are no more than traditional ornaments and have no political power.

I suppose you don't think that it is a bad idea that over 100,000 children per day take a gun to school because they are afraid of being bullied. But then again, you wouldn't have any idea what a bully is.

It's helpful to see the true color of the loonies who hug their guns. I am sorry that Alex's mommy did not nurse him long enough. Or that she still does.

Al that these gun bans will do is take guns out of the hands of good law abiding people and make it imposible for them to protect theirselves from crimals who don't care what laws are inplace that tell them they can't use a certian type of weapon to comit whatever offense they plan on comitting. So now they won't have to worry about having a civilian be able to protect them selves when ever they brake in to your home and comit any offence they please..

You raise a good point. Should Alex own a gun and what law allows the government to take them away from him? Alex was upsetting to watch and even more when I think how many people that may share his same views. Piers even said as much.

While "your rights" were being eroded over the last 20 years your media chose to not tell you what your country was up to in the rest of the world.Anywhere else in the world a guy with a gun is looked on as a coward, bring a gun to a street fight and you are a coward.Where were you with your guns when bush the younger invaded Iraq and stole thier oil?
I saw on our channel 4 news the us army gaurding oil fields.Saddam Hussien knew this of course which is why he set fire to them. You"not cowardly" guys with guns sat on your backsides and did nothing while your government carried out an act of international terrorism, with your media following on the "story" line like sheep.
A guy like Michael Moore comes along and starts speaking out against injustice and corporate crime and cover ups,and your media turn against him straight away and label him a "lefty" etc instead of taking up the investigations like journalists are supposed to do.
I remember during the Bush years one of our investigative news desks had proof of some kind of skullduggery by bush`s brother who was the governor of Florida I believe.Aweek or so past and no story broke,so the guy who passed on the info to one of your channels,I cant remember which,he called up to see what was happening. He was told on the phone that there was nothing to the story. He asked what investigations the network had carried out and was astounded to hear that they phoned him and asked him if he had anything to do with this crime!,,of course he said no and the "journalists" left it at that!,anyone like Moore who stands up for what is right and decent gets shot downby your media and you guys,or a lot of you at least seem to believe it!

Thank you for having the courage to have him on your show though. Please send this tape on to Congress. I really wish someone would challenge Mr. Morgan on his 11K gun murders in 2011. According to the FBI Crime report the total number of firearm murders was 8,583. Mr. Morgan then takes that number and adds back in the break down numbers that show of the 8583: 323 of these where committed with rifle, 356 of these were committed with shotguns, and 1,684 of these where committed with an unknown firearms to come to a total 11K. This is like saying I have one dozen cookies, 4 of them are snicker doodles, 4 of them are chocolate chip, and I am not sure what the other 4 are but totally I have 24 cookies. It makes no sense.

Please understand that 8583 is still way to many, but when Mr. Morgan uses false numbers to make his case it makes it hard to believe he is realy interested in truth.

    January 8, 2013 at 1:21 pm | Report abuse | Reply
    • Mark Horner

Mr. May, One murder by gun is one too many, but 35 is an awful long way from even 8583 ( your figure ). The actual number really is not all that important. What IS important is that this country has got do something about the problem of gun violence. There is NO legitimate hunting use for handguns or assault weapons unless your prey is another human being. Personally, I would have no problem with a total ban on these two types of weapons. According to Mr. May's figures this would still leave 7904 lives lost because of a gun other than a rifle or shotgun.

So, I think that Mr. Morgan is right on the money. I hope he will continue to lead the fight against gun violence, or would you prefer Alex Jones who IS an exhibit. He's more frightening than LaPierre.

Agreed, but gun control is only ONE portion of the problem in gun violence and putting a lockdown on guns is not going to solve or slow down the problem. I am for banning assault rifles and people need to have a background check on them before they buy one, but not for a complete dismantling of the right to control guns, and knowing the left they say they wont but we know how that goes.
BUt lest talk about gun control, and lets also talk about why there are so many mentally unstable people in our society and how we have failed them, lets talk about the movies, TV shows, video games, music that glorify violence and drill it into our daily lives as well. Why are kids are so immune to the value of life nowadays, I know this is not as convenient as simply saying ban guns and all will be fine because we know how well outlawing these things works. In the end it will create a black market for them and/or go to mexico to get your guns.
As for Piers Morgan- I never liked his pompous arrogant self and he is nowhere near a journalist but rather an entertainer. Wondering if he was ever actually vetteed on his past job as editor of the Mirror? I am sure he was unaware of what was going on under his nose.........Hyprocrites from the left, never cease to amaze me.

Criminal Harassment and Mobbing Networks aka Marie Antoinette "let them eat cake"

"a deranged person" "too many guns" these are just stereotypes and rhetoric to advocate a defenceless population but not the cause of rage shootings.

Here is an interesting fact about organized crime and oppression in British regimes. British regimes are using criminal harassment and mobbing networks, participants, for these anyone they target to repress through criminal harassment, homelessness, and radar assaults aimed at inflicting deadly cancers is a "deranged person", and being involved in oppression aka Marie Antoinette they advocate a defenceless population. .. Interesting?

Dear Piers – as a Canadian viewer, I am glad to see you are trying to hold up a mirror to the troubles with American's and their love of guns. Thank you for keeping the spotlight on this issue. With all the talk about banning the guns why has no one mentioned about going after the gun manufactures to stop them at the source. Remember when the US government when after the taboo industry – that was a public health issue, why can't some see that guns are just a much of a health issue as a public safety issue. Why is no one holding the gun companies responsible for their part in all this ?
Please keep the conversation going on this issue – it is one of the main reasons I will no longer travel or vacation in the US.

That will get all the gun educated law makers out of office. I'm not sure that is a fix and might end up more of a break? The NRA isn't all bad, but I don't think they are really listening to their members either.

It seems to me that Jones got the better of this show. I don't agree with his loud mouth tactics, but he did make a lot more sense then you did. You keep talking about the 35 people killed in Great Britain. Most of them in Great Britain die of boredom. The once great country is now reduced to a garbage nest for the influx of Muslims. You let them run wild and burn and destroy once wonderful area.s and call it good. As Jones said, you had to come here to find your freedom. Don't screw this one up. Canada next? As wild as Alex Jones seemed to be, his point was to get all of his information on mainstream media as quick as possible before Piers could just nod his head and proceed with the questions that we've been hearing asked for about a month now. Alex easily could have handled this opportunity better and more professionally, but we as viewers have to hold CNN, FOX, and such to more fact-based news, rather than the bias agenda-driven networks that they have become.

    Dear Piers,

How about getting some truly responsible gun owners on your show. Sure not as showy, but still interesting. Here's what my brother, who is a 2nd amendment advocate (not activist) and owns one hand gun and a few woodstock hunting rifles, has to say about semiautos: "I will never own one of those so called guns. They're a bad joke. They're not for protection or hunting. They're for one thing only, mass murder. They're weapons to kill a lot of animals or people." This from a mild-mannered, hard working Iowa man who, if he'd been in Sandyhook school that day and been able to take just one shot, probably would have saved everyone. He is a sportsman, and a real man.

Piers – You did a great job articulating the benefits of gun control over the chaos and paranoia that Jones revealed of himself and his nonsensical following. Thank you for trying to help America, instead of bringing it down like Jones, and for still believing in America, instead of destroying it like Jones. There's no civilian need for the weapons and exploding bullets at Newtown. They're only for those who like to see others suffer. In the name of humanity, we need to get these guns away from the hands of the insane. Thank you.

People with mental health issues are not permitted to own or buy firearms. Alex Jones should be one of them. This guy is a NUT CASE! Also the 2nd amendment gives the right to bear arms. It doesn't give the right to sell them. Ban their sale!

Sure those with Mental illnesses cannot own guns, but there are so many guns out there "legally", like the mother of the killer in Newtown, that do you think they can keep their guns safe and secure at all times? It only takes one assault rifle on the loose to cause damage on a catastrophic scale. I saw people pointing guns at each other during Hurricane Sandy just to beat the other guy in line for gas! I've seen fistfights in shopping malls and other places, and it was clear that if these irate people did have guns, they'd all be dead instead of just a broken jaw.

My advocate brother thinks before anyone should even be allowed to use a gun, they should have to show they've taken gun safety class and mental evaluation. So the point is not all 2nd amendment defenders are nut cases on a rant. Talk to them. Get them to talk.

You go MORGAN !! U say "we can't just dismiss him", and good for you ! The common pro gun argument for owning an assault rifle, "to protect ourselves against our own government", needs to address. This contention for our government is very scary real.

The MAJORITY of gun deaths in USA is SUICIDE !! ~ 56%.

USA has severe problems. Cultural / social short comings, economic inequality and no HEALTHCARE for the people who need it the most. Appeasing these minority naysayers is just wasting time and lives every day, very moment. If we saw an other country with the following statistics, I wonder what we would do.

Wikipedia -"In 2009, according to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, 66.9% of all homicides in the United States were perpetrated using a firearm.[6] There were 52,447 deliberate and 23,237 accidental non-fatal gunshot injuries in the United States during 2000.[7] Just over half of all gun-related deaths in the United States are suicides,[8] with 17,352 (55.6%) of the total 31,224 firearm-related deaths in 2007 suicide deaths, and 12,632 (40.5%) homicide deaths. Some suicides are committed after the perpetrator has committed one or more murders.[9]"

    Thank you again Mr. Morgan.

Despite giving Mr. Jones a greater platform than he desrves, he came across like the whack job-bully that he is. What is truly scary is that Mr. Jones speaks for too many in this country. God help us if it becomes a majority.

Keep up your good work in an effort to make a difference in trying to change the gun laws in America.

It’s the “nuts” like the one you had on the show last night that are America’s biggest problem. I cannot believe his meaningless rant and the fact that you managed to sit quietly and hold your tongue. I totally agree with how you have handled all the other gun right activists on your show.

Maybe the next question to be asked is “what if it was your child”? I think until the lawmakers of the US are personally hit by these senseless tragedies, everything will remain the same. I have never heard such inane reasoning as “people kill people; guns don’t”!

Love your show and never miss it.

2nd amendment protects the citizens from a time like Syria today when the leader turns on its people. That's what the 2nd amendment is all about. 1994 Assault weapons ban then in 1995 the worst act by a US citizen the Oklahoma City boming 168 lives. You can make it very hard or get rid of weapons, but the problem your after still will exist. History shows that a mentally ill person will not stop until the job is done in their own mind. So you ban assault weapons then they just decide well a bomb what they need. There is no win win on this issue. The real issue is dealing with the mentally ill. Guns are the symptom and we are notorious in the US for going after the symptom and not the cause. Find the mentally ill and get those families the help they need. We don't need an armed guard what we need is a phsycologist at each school looking for those kids in trouble. Leave the 2nd amendment alone again guns are the symptom mental illness is the cause.

Your view on the AR-15 rifle and assault weapons disturbs me. Im not going to tell you your wrong but I want to ask you just one question. Lets say Hitler won World War 2. And the entire world is a giant dictatorship. Now you want your freedom back. What are you gunna' use? Grandpas old shotgun. Or an AR 15 assault rifle? The dictator has all the machine guns and semi automatic weapons. And they took or killed anyone that had one be four. What are you going to do?
You take away my AR 15 you take away my right to defend my freedom god forbid it ever come to that. I dont think my lever action 30-30 deer hunting rifle is going to be very effective against someone else with a machine gun. Its freedom insurance. Taking away the AR 15 isn't the answer to gun violence. But I do find it odd that an 18 year old that has never held or fired a gun be-four can go buy an AR 15 in 15 minutes. You cant just jump in a car when you turn 16 and start driving. You have to have training and a test. I believe buying guns should be the same way. And I believe if we made everyone take a gun safety training course be four they can buy a gun we would catch possibly mentally unstable or very unqualified potential gun owners. When the second amendment was written if you didn't have a gun you didn't eat. People grew up to be qualified gun owners and in that time their hunting rifle was their assault rifle. Not so much today. Iv grown up hunting and shooting guns and had gun safety lessons and keep my guns locked up. But i know people who own guns that don't understand the concept of don't point a gun at me weather you know its unloaded or not. People don't respect the power of a firearm and those people shouldn't have them.

im beginning to see a trend... the gun owners are the ones with healthy bodies and minds while the people so scared of guns for their lives are the ones that down 50 prescription pills every day and sit paranoid in their houses hoping that a government will save them from... who really knows??? i think you cowards just want to feel safe and protected by big brother lol which is sad... but hey, we told you not to drink the water now you and your families DNA is probably permanently ruined...

I get that we have the right to bear arms to fend off a government that would take over. But if you think that's going to happen here, you're crazy. Hitler didn't win, so that's a mute point. And if you think your assault rifle is gonna help you against the U.S. government, should they decide to attack it's citizens, then you're really crazy. If that's the case, then we should all be purchasing tanks & surface to air missiles. Let's get real here.

I understand where you are coming from, but 30 round clips? I think my 30.06 tack driver at 500 yds is better than an ar-15. If you get very close, the 12ga comes into play. Point is that we need to restrict access to high capacity magazines. In America today, a citizen can own a fully automatic weapon as well as a silencer. The high capacity magazines should fall under the same rules in my opinion. I shouldn't be able to purchase a 100 round drum for an ar-15 off the shelf at a local Cabelas.

      • Randen

I can agree to that. Your rite, I can legally own a machine gun and silencers. But in order to do so there is a long federal process. By the end of it they pretty much know for a fact your not going to use it for illegal purposes. I think a tax stamp or an additional license to high cap mags isnt out of the question. I mean i use my ar for hunting Coyotes and target shooting and it is great for it. But I almost never use my 20 and 30 rnd mags. If Im hunting I use my 10rnd mag and if i use it for deer i have a 5rnd mag. The high cap mags aren't a necessity but i still want them and i would of went thu an extra federal process to obtain them since they will never be used for anything illegal. But banning them all together just means i wont have em and the criminals still can because they dont follow laws.

Alex Jones did not help himself last night with that "out of control performance" but if the FBI statistics he quoted are correct it does raise some questions for me. Jones stated that these assault weapons account for a miniscule percentage of the 11,000 people killed annually by guns. If you are attempting to solve any problem you perform some analysis and then attack the main causative factors and not the insignificant ones. If you are concerned about the 11,000 deaths you need to tackle the major causative factors and not the insignificant ones ... even if some of these deaths are dramatic and obtain a lot of press coverage. Otherwise there will be 11,000 more killed next year because the major causes have not been dealt with.

Hear is a about treat gun ownership like vehicle ownership. Guns must be registered and the owner must be able to show proven ability to operate the gun under a gun registration act. As well, all guns, as vehicles, require insurance in case of incident and liability concerns. This in turn could be a great source of revenue for the government as the ownership of a gun could be taxed very heavily. The cost of insuring a gun would increase with the calibre and killing power of the weapon and the owner would require a yearly medical examination deaming them fit to own said weapon. Anyone care to discuss this option?

What did she expect from a child with autism...duh. This mother rest her soul, was not the smartest parent in my opinion..

As a gun owner, I hate that this is the picture most people have of us. As a RESPONSIBLE gun owner, I don't understand what the problem is with extensive background checks, keeping track of all purchases (including ammo), changing the loopholes for gun shows, and banning assault style rifles, & high capacity magazines. If you are a LAW abiding & rational gun owner, then you should have no problem with these restrictions. Reasonable protection for yourself &home is all you need, and you should also be required to secure it in a safe place, & I dare say, take some basic classes on how to handle a weapon. As a "gun nut in America" I am totally embarrassed by people like Alex Jones and the leaders of the NRA. We are going to end up with a bunch of stupid gun laws that doesn’t solve the problem because the gun educated people are not playing a role into the solution. Here is a good quote: “an AR-15 is not different than any other semi-automatic hunting rifle. It operates the same way”. While that statement is true, it fails the test of the whole truth. It is the weapon of choice because of the volume of rounds it shoots. In fact, it isn’t half the weapon my browning 30.06 is without that big clip on it. Rifles should be limited to 5 rounds and pistols to 10. That will end this stupid debate. Any don’t tell me you can change those clips so fast that a five round clip doesn’t solve a thing. Under pressure, changing that clip can turn into a big problem for a non-expert. In fact, that is what happened in Arizona at the Gifford shooting.

I think American's are smart enough to know that Alex wasn't as crazy as he seemed. Well, maybe a little. The fact is that Alex isn't a minority viewpoint in America. When people talk about taking guns, the emotions run high. People keep saying that we are not talking about taking anyones guns, but that is a lie. We have been talking about taking AR-15 rifles off the street. While that sounds good, there is no difference in an AR=15 and any other semi-automatic weapon other than the magazine. Once you start banning specific guns based a they way they look, we end up with another assult weapons ban that really didn't ban very much and some things didn't make any sense at all.

Google "guns in homes statistics". I know you have to take everything with a grain of salt, but reasoning of much of the data is sound.

Reason NRA wants laws against doctors asking gun related questions.

An article in the February Southern Medical Journal stated:

Guns at Home Increase Dangers, Not Safety
Based on a review of the available scientific data, Dr. Lippmann and co-authors conclude that the dangers of having a gun at home far outweigh the safety benefits. Research shows that access to guns greatly increases the risk of death and firearm-related violence. A gun in the home is twelve times more likely to result in the death of a household member or visitor than an intruder.

That interview last night with Mr. Jones was disgraceful and embarrassing, and I would think any thoughtful, educated American that values the 2nd amendment and advocates for a real solution to the issue at hand would feel the same. There is an important debate that needs to happen around the potential efficacy of your proposed solution and the pros/cons associated with it vs. other potential solutions.

I'm sorry to say that by having Mr. Jones on your show, it did little to further the debate and served only to inaccurately suggest that the entire opposition to your solution is absurd and being driven by conspiracy theorists and gun-drunk hot-heads. I like your typical measured and thoughtful approach on the show and hope that you will continue this debate with more intelligent and dignified individuals. While that sounds good, there is a problem with outlawing ammo. The ammo a civilian uses in a 223 is more destructive than the ammo used by the military. The Military uses NATO rounds and most 223 ammo used for varmint hunting is hollow points that explode on impact. The 223 isn’t anything special. Any high powered rifle with a round designed to create max damage to drop wild game is going to deliver a devastating wound. The issue seems to be the ability to deliver so many rounds is such a sort period of time.

Sorry about the caps, wasnt yelling. I for one own several guns, none of the so called assault weapons, I personally do not need a ar-15 , or a clip that holds 40 rnds for a ar-15, but i think people that want them should be able to have them, there was a time you could get 100 and 50 rnd clipsfor ar-15, However I do not see the country being safer without them ,and if you ban them you must realize that there is already lots of em out there . this is a subject I think is very hard to have answers to, it sounds easy to ban something and you have solved problem , but you cant really go door to door and expect people to hand them over .and if you ban ammo, people will just do their own reloads . i think the answer is better security at malls schools etc, what happens when someone sues a dept store at mall for not providing adequate security, you know its coming . and maybe it should

I'm afraid you may be right. I would like to think that a ban on high capacity magazines would force people to surrender them. The penalty of not surrendering far outways the having them. I thought long and hard about the theater shooting and the Gifford shooting. I came to the conclusion that having to change magazines under pressure is not very easy task. That is what stopped the Gifford shooting when a bystander grabbed the clip the shooter dropped when trying to change it out. In the theater shooting, even a person with a conceal carry would have been hard pressed to make a head shot at any distance in the dim lighting. Making the suspect reload gives some ability to close the distance. Remember, these cowards always seem to wear body armor so you have to make a head shot with a pistol.

      January 8, 2013 at 8:04 pm | Report abuse | Reply

I tend to agree on the large clips, I am sure what people will fear is that it wont stop there, and therefore will be unwilling to agree to it. I still think security plays in this, at the mall just walk in carrying a rifle , shouldnt be that easy, and at the movie theater he came in side door , how is that possible ,thought you had to buy ticket, what might sell the clip idea is get a 10rnd with the gun you purchase, can have a 50 rounder at any gun range to use while you are there so if you want to blast can do it there only . I think that would be hard to argue with , and sad but true a bell ringer at the mall for the s.a. seen the guy run in with rifle but no one to tell ,or get help from no security . think about it and you are right cowards go to areas where there is no resistance

Strange how everyone in the CNN comment section is so critical against Alex, yet on youtube, twitter, and facebook, there's an overwhelming positive response toward Alex. It's almost as if pro-CNN comments are all on the top of the page...

Alex Jones had about 13 minutes to get his point across and he used every second of it effectively. Don't confuse his abrasive passion with insanity. If he just sat there politely and let Piers ask him loaded one-sided questions and control the entire dialogue it would've been a complete waste.

An ar-15 with a 5 round clip is not an assault weapon. It is less lethal than a 22-250 or 30.06. The general that mentioned the 223 and all its devastating ability was wrong. The number of rounds the weapon shoots is only based on an accessory that gives it that power. This type of misinformation is why we are not solving the issues.

As a Brit who is now a naturalized American citizen, I would like to make a point I don't see addressed in the discussions after the fact. That point is: Alex Jones, whatever the merits of the gun rights case, is a reprehensible bigot. Imagine the outcry if he had made such ethnically, nationally, or culturally vile comments as those he made because Morgan was a Brit? The French might get that treatment–without much being made of it–possible the Germans (though I doubt it), but any other group? I don't think so. And anti-Brit bigotry is not, or ought not to be, anymore acceptable than any other kind. What we do not need, and I speak as an American now, as someone who likes America, and has made my life here, is bigots with semi-automatic. And that is exactly what Jones is. In a different era, he'd be organizing lynching parties.

Alex Jones, you are f.. moran idiot, i mean it by saying this to you. Piers Morgan is 100% right. US Gov. must control guns by enforcing gun laws other wise there will be more problems, vilonce in future. Britian, India and there are some many other countries does not allow citznes to own guns. Here in America Gov. has provide the best security to all citizens, once you dial 911, police come at your door in two minutes, then why you need guns? Semi automatic Guns? Are you stupid? People who believe in Guns are ridiculous, I don't think Gov. should allow guns to anybody except police and army. I just saw on face book today, one moran shoot a dog with pellet gun. the dog was hurt so badly, would have been died if not rescued. Nobody is secured with gun violence, humans, animals, business, banks etc......

Well I am starting to see a bigger picture if the gun control issue keeps going, and laws get passed and or bans, wait until mid terms, and here comes a raft of newly elected republicans. That will lead to republicans back in whitehouse 2yrs later , and omg , which recession did you like better , old man bush or w , back in the soup again , all because of gun laws brought to you by the likes of some brit that dont know a machine gun from a ar-15, this by a man who probably has never fired one round and we know he doesnt know anything about guns, power of tv and following ramifications get shoved up us.

Mr. Alex Jones. Wow. Was he disrespectful to the men and women in uniform who serve their country with loyalty, courage and pride? Sounds like this man is preparing to take them on, or to stand in for them when America has been defeated in some doomsday scenario.

Gun owner's in America can be totally sane people will good reasons for owning guns or rifles. They can also be radicals arming themselves in preparation to revolt against their own government.

We all know that the only people who need these military assault weapons are those preparing for battle. When will all the reasonable gun owner's stand up for the children of Sandy Hook who are forever silent now?

If one can buy weapons that fire a bullet per second and shred the internal organs of 20 little tiny children, and their 6 teacher's, what is next? Rocket launchers, grenades, land mines, drones and whatever else can fit into one's garage?

We need insurance to own a car. If I have a mentally ill son who drives my car and kills 26 school children and their teacher's, it's safe to assume these families will have the good sense to sue me for allowing him access to my car. If I buy a dog who bites someone, causing disfigurement or any sort of harm... it's reasonable to assume that I will be held responsible for all damages.

Gun owner's need to carry insurance against the possible misuse of their guns by those who have access to them within the home. This may force gun owner's to limit the number of guns to a reasonable number- not fifty. Who would need more than 10 weapons? Mr. Alex Jones and his friends.

It takes a foreigner like Mr. Piers to point out the obvious to American's- he may have the courage and naivete to encourage American's to make their country safer in memory of the children of Sandy Hook. God bless him.

In all the din of the gun control arguments, we are missing a bigger questions that are emerging. What do Americans believe their ultimate "survival unit" for our ultimate safety is, and what is the source of political power for our country. Is our safety primarily the individual's, the community's, the state's, or the country's responsibility? Where you put the emphasis will probably track your position on gun control. Alex Jones seems to believe the ultimate political power is to be brokered by a gun, and the citizen's united ruling makes the ultimate political weapon money. (so gun manufacturers get it both ways.) Both are threats to our one person one vote democracy. Warren Zevon got it right with "Lawyers Guns and Money".

Piers... You did a great service by subjecting yourself to the abuse Jones put you through. Like Dershowitz said, you made it possible for the rest of us who do not ordinarily see this type of person to feel their hatred and the depth of their insanity. Unfortunately, Jones is mentally ill. In my world, it would be people like him who, because of their unstable mental condition, would not be allowed to own or have access to guns of any kind. But, it is not my world. In his world there are millions of people like him who will make threats to the rest of society of what they will do if we try to take their guns away. He basically said that he will kill people who try to get his guns. He likened it to tyrannical government that he says the 2nd Amendments protects against. This is how far these people will go...they will murder to defend their right to murder. There is no such right in any country. The right to life trumps the right to own a gun. It's that simple. We need to control guns in a
America to protect us from people like Jones, the REAL people who are a threat to peace in America. They are really preaching sedition in its most raw form. We have freedom of speech in America, but there are limits and, to me, it is treasonous to suggests an armed rebellion will rise up if our society tries to confiscate the means of mass murder.

I guess we will just have to agree to disagree. FEMA even says you are on your own for a bit in a disaster and suggest nothing less than to be self-reliant for the first 72 hours at a minimum. We are a violent society in America and to disarm everyone will only end in beating with baseball bats. The big guy beats the little guy. Women are at a major disadvantage without a weapon to equalize the situation. I know Britain has a low gun murder rate, but their crime rate isn’t lower. Bad guys fear good guys with a gun. It is hard to overpower that little old lady when she pulls out her 38 special.

    • Bill

Let me simplify for you Dana, people who are born or have citizenship of a country are called citizens, people who dont have guns are called citizens, people who think that owning a gun gives them some kind of "power" over thier democratically elected government are "dangerously warped".What do you mean by your comments,do you have anymore rights as a gun owner?,,gun owners are a bigger danger to society than non gun owners,I hope your reference to "subjects" isnt aimed at the queen,,who has had nothing to do with politics for more than a hundred years, everyone who bothers to look into it will clearly see the royal family are a traditional ornament.
Maybe you meant those without a gun are the "subjects" of gun owners, like a victim is the "subject" of the gunman?
I ant see how you feel superior in any way to anyone else because you own a gun.

      January 9, 2013 at 12:58 pm | Report abuse | Reply

Bill I do not feel superior to anyone because I have a gun, and we are not more dangerous to society, since we do have guns, apparently you do not own any guns , and like most non gun owners know nothing about them , but are afraid of them and people who own them. Youre right to choose to not have one is respected ,however you should see people that do, no different from yourself, the comments i wrote were for the most part, was meant as a little tongue and cheek, however there is some truth in there, meaning an unarmed nation can be taken wherever its government wants to take it , you are totally under the thumb. the founding fathers knew that, which is why they wrote in order to maintain a free state , people have the right to bear arms. AND AS FAR AS THE QUEEN AND ROYAL FAMILY, WOULDNT THAT BE TRADITIONAL INBRED ORNAMENT.

Hi Dana, sorry I took so long to reply,,You say an armed nation cant be led,,your country has been around for just over 200 years and has been involved in around 50 wars, most of them covert cia operations,,Iran on the other hand has been involved in 1 war in the last 200 years,it was with Iraq and it was saddam that started it.Please wake up to the reality,,your country invaded Iraq for the oil,THIS is why Iran wants a nuke,,they know it would be national suicide if they attacked Isreal, which is the story your media( and mine in the uk) is feeding us.
Iran wants a nuke to stop the west stealing its oil under false reasons to invade.
So you guys want guns to protect yourselves from government, but you do nothing about your countries bahaviour in the world. What makes it worse is when a guy like Michael Moore comes along and starts "outing" the bad guys and speaking up for whats right,he gets slaughtered by US media as some kind of commy lefty, and you guys buy thier cr*p.
I think you should all put your flags away and stop pretending to be patriots and start asking your media why they dont ask the hard questions.
Fox news did not even run the alex jones story!!,the capitalists are running away with your minds, people should be happy to have enough to get by and have a happy life, not greedy for more,no country can sustain constant growth, its the greedy rich guys pushing, making others feel like failures because the are not rich,,every single rich guy I have ever met,and thats a few having worked in music, has been a self obssesed shallow dick.
Sorry for going on,but this Iran scaremongering is the US gov preparing the ground with propaganda,,and I dont want to see again rich guys sending poor guys to thier deaths so the rich guys can steal oil.

This clip cannot even be described as having entertainment value, much as Jones tried; he is transparent, unbelievable, unconvincing, an obvious shill.

That said, it wouldn't break my heart to see Piers Morgan deported. The U.S. is saturated with Leftists, we don't need him.

Would it not be better to have compassionate republicanism, you dont need people sleeping under freeway bridges, its lack of feeling for those less fortunate or able and its very easy to convince yourself or be convinced by your media that they somehow deserve thier situation.
I dont believe in god but I have read the bible, and the USA is old testament.

I have a question for all those who think that one needs a gun on them to defend themselves. I hope these people agree that to be able to defend yourself at all times, or rather at any time one needs to have a gun on them. An analogy, the secret service has to protect the President every single day of the year. If they keep him safe for 364 days and the last day of the year he is killed, they have FAILED. Okay, so moving on, to my question – do these pro-gun people make international trips? And if they do so, how do they defend themselves when they are walking on De Champs-Élysées in Paris, or Picadilly Circus in London, or for that matter any where on non-US ground? Terror can strike anywhere with no warnings. It would be such a pity of their belief that this one time when drinking coffee at a Café in Paris if they had no gun on them and would get killed.

It is a bit more complex than that. You have to know the laws from State to State. Some States don't recognize other States conceal carry and other States don't even allow conceal carry. One just does they best one can.

If I follow the ramblings of the gun lobby and now Alex Jones, I should be allowed to have any weapon I need to defend myself and my family. How about hunting with an RPG???? As ludicrous as it sounds, I don't see the difference between owning an RPG or an AR. The second amendment gave us the right to bear arms – not own every weapon that we want.

After what they did to us in Katrina, stealing innocent homeowners guns leaving them defenseless, and thanks to people who have our backs watching them like Alex we know what they're up to. And that presumably Jewish lawyer needs to apologize. It's men like Alex who stand up for what is right that helped free his people from concentration camps and people like Piers who told them they didn't need their guns that put them there. The NRA and Lance Armstrong have adopted the same tactics, lance knew what he was doing was wrong so he had an army of lawyers to silence anyone who spoke out or discredit them with lies.
The NRA know what they are doing is wrong,so they spend a fortune on "lobbying",which to me means they paypoliticians to persuade other politicians to go thier way,if they dont the NRA discredits them.
