Guns in America: The conversation continues

Coming up this evening at 9, Piers Morgan continues the conversation on gun control and firearm legislation, welcoming an array of experts from both sides of the debate, including New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly. While Kelly would like to see an assault weapons ban he also believes there is a larger issue at stake.

Also, as part of a segment that features a pair of repeat guests, Conservative talk radio show host Dana Loesch will debate the Second Amendment, and gun issues in general, with "New York Times" columnist Charles Blow.

In addition, Story County, Iowa Sheriff Paul Fitzgerald will join Morgan to share their insights into the nation's most-polarizing issues. Fitzgerald, among other sheriffs and police chiefs, attended Monday's gun meeting with President Barack Obama.

Meanwhile, John Stephens will join the show as well, providing the unique perspective that comes from being the mayor of Ilion, NY, home to the Remington gun factory.

Tune in tonight at 9 as Morgan and his guests continue to debate the issue of "Guns in America."

Piers you are not a citizen of this country therefore you opinion doesn't matter you don't get a vote nor do you get a say. You call yourself an objective journalist but you ca t even let someone answer your questions without cutting them off because you disagree with them you have been proven wrong every step of the way on this topic. Now if you don't feel safe in our country you can just fly back to your where the crime rate is so much lower and work their!

Piers, you aren't an American Citizen therefore you don't have a say in what our Country does. Go back to England and live your socialist life without guns. Governments who have outlawed guns have killed more people in the last 200 years than all the wars put together. Do a little investigation and see what the numbers are. We know the history and don't want it to repeat in our Country. Give up your special green card and get lost, and take CNN with you.

Piers is looking for ratings, he really could care less about the mass shootings.

If he cared, he would know better than to suggest gun control is going to help.

Lastly, he's an Englishman, and we all know how badly England did when they fought a very well armed America.

Go home, Piers, you're the biggest reason I stopped watching CNN.

I am dumbstruck why the posts are so geared towards a personal attack on the gun owners of America.
This is not the case, I believe all should have the right to bear arms however these individuals should fit a criteria for example like that of the Australian gun law a 1 month cool off period. Your gun is delivered one month after purchase. Another this is not rocket science an inspection of ones gun safe. No one can purchase a gun without a proper storage facility. If you buy a gun you have to attend 5 session in a shooting range. This should be provided by gun Retailers, this can be a win for them aswell due continued payed sessions.

Let's face it no one needs a automatic assault rifle to protect themselves against intruders but if it's ones right then how about you need to have owned a lesser weapon for 3 years, 20 sessions in training and a inspection of storage.

And off course no crimal record or a history of mental illness.

It's not gun owners that is the problem. It's kids, mad men and irrational thought that are able to get a gun that is the problem.

Final thought Pierce Morgan is a talk show host his job is to push buttons. He had to speak over his guests as they were not answer the questions posed! No solutions to the problem given just different parties defending turf.

I grew up in South Africa were tougher gun controls helped and illegal gun amnesty periods took guns off the streets.
Still a long way to go.. But this little bit helped..

Education, storage of guns and more youth outreach program's. More counsellers in Schools, use local universities as students in these areas can have this as extra credit and develop their future roles.

This is the time for the experts like that of the Gun Associations to partner the US gov and lead the way in responsible gun ownership, sales, storage, training and screening. This is your time "America needs a hero" be that and tear down the political and economical walls!

A chain is as strong as it's weakest link. The weakest link is the gun manufacturing industry that wants absolutely no restrictions or limits on gun ownership because of the almight dollar and their infnite GREED. They couldn't care less if a million children were shot to death, they just want their profits, period. Then there are the GUN RUNNERS & TRAFFICKERS who pretend to be "angelic gun owners" who've never broken the law and who buy guns legally and sell them to criminals.... I say, start at the point where the weakest link in this chain of gun violence and work our way out from there... Then, according to the type of weapon you want to buy, there should be not just a "background" check but also a psychiatric check, for everyone in the household where the guns will be stored.... Background checks may catch criminals and felons, but it doesn't check for mental and emotional stability... only a psychiatric interview and test would do that..... God save America as it is now hitting rock bottom....and falling apart....

I don't watch CNN but only see Piers Morgan clips on Fox News.Let me say, his guest cannot have a debate because he is the rudest, most egoistical, arrogant, condescending talk show host I've ever viewed. Yeah... Like Alex Jones and LaPierre of the NRA are "normal?" Piers is outraged as well he should be: these right-chicken-winged "conservatives" talk over Piers and he's fighting them back.... Got a problem with that???? At least Piers doesn't turn his head away and pretend little 6 yr. olds weren't murdered like the rest of you gun nuts. Good for Piers Morgan. At least he has the cagones - (that's Italian for "meatballs") to stand up for those murdered children in Newtown! Where the hell are yours?

I was looking out my window this morning and saw 2 kids fighting in my neighbor's yard. One kid started hitting the other one with a baseball bat. I immediately ran out and gave the defenseless kid a baseball bat. I know I did the right thing because EVERYONE knows the only way to stop a bad kid with a bat is to give a good kid a bat.

No silly... If the good kid had a bat the bad kid wouldn't have approached him. He'd go find a sucker who didn't have a bat with which to defend himself.

Except that it gets a bit of a handful constantly having to carry a bat every day and night just in case some bad kid might get a bat. What if the bad kid sees the bat and gets a bigger bat?

You think it was clever.........but what an idiotic analogy. You think a couple kids with b-ball bats is comparable to a criminal with a gun vs. a good guy with a gun? If you are on the street with your wife and a masked man grabs her by the neck and holds a gun to her head and starts to drag her away......are you telling me that you wouldn't want a gun? You wouldn't want to be on equal ground with the man that intends to kill her and/or you? If you are in bed at 3am, with your kids down the hall sleeping, and two guys break into your house with guns, you're telling me that you wouldn't want a gun to defend your family? Yes, it IS better to arm the good guys.... because the bad guys have guns. The issue isn't about playground fights, bar fights, or domestic disputes......it's about really bad guys with guns and intent to kill. Yes, it IS better to arm yourself to protect yourself and your family and be on equal ground with the bad guys. If YOU don't want to defend your family with a gun, that's fine, I don't care. But please don't tell ME that I shouldn't have a gun, or guns, to protect MY family. I understand the "point" you were making..........you don't agree that putting more guns in the hands of good people is the answer. I get that. But until you can GUARANTEE me that no criminal will EVER have another another gun......mine will stay at my bedside and on my hip. You might just hope I'm around some day when you need a gun.

Well said, Scott. What people seem to gloss over is that we have the RIGHT to bear arms, not the obligation. If you don't want to exercise your 2nd Amendment right that is your option, but it doesn't give you the right to waive mine!

I'm quite amazed that otherwise intelligent guests holding an opposing view on this issue continue to appear on the show in the naive belief that they will be provided the same opportunity to speak freely and present their positions completely without continuous rude interruption and ridiculous comparisons from the host. One can discern when a guest is making a valid point when Mr. Morgan jumps in without letting them finish their statement or answer his question. And yet, they still agree to appear as guests. Mr. Morgan is as qualified to discuss firearms and second amendment rights as a completely male panel would be to discuss female reproductive rights.

The AR 15 was USED to kill ALL the victims at Sandy Hook.!!

Reply for Nae, in the early stages after a tragedy the media runs around trying to get info from anyone about what happened and so a lot of misinformation is generated. The officials are busy at this time gathering facts and helping people. Later when the officials publish the facts the original misinformation is ignored except by silly people or those with a vested interest in propaganda – in this case the NRA.
Tip for NRA ; your dishonesty is on display to the whole world and instead of appearing as a bunch of excitable guys who like guns you look like a bunch of evil excitable guys with an unnatural obsession with guns (fanatics). But go ahead:

      Firearms used in self defense?
Myself: Twice. One attempted car jacking (man was he suprised when he saw the Model 96 pointing at him and he had not targeted me with is hand gun. He dropped it to the floor board and sat there until we arrived at the police station and was hauled of in cuffs. The other one, a armed robbery/hostage situation at a gas station (took the police 9 minutes to arrive – remember the police are not required to protect your life). They cuffed and stuffed that fine example of a citizen too.

My wife, two times. Two attempted home invasions. First attempted invasion repelled using a 9mm pistol. Police on scene in 7 minutes (she would have been dead soooooo many times). Second attempted invasion repelled by a Mossberg 590, 12 guage shotgun (police never did show up for that one)

Remember that the police are not legally responsible for your protection or safety.

I have. I'm also a retired member of a legal,"well regulated militia" and highly trained former law enforcement officer. I am not, some one who took an 8 hour handgun safety class, goes to a local range and statically shoots at paper targets and then thinks I'm adequately prepared to intervene in or survive an armed confrontation.

Read closer. As a 24 year veteran of the National Guard, and excluding the three times I was on federal active duty for wartime service, I was a member of the, "organized militia." (well regulated militia) Upon retirement, I choose to become a member of the Retired Reserve of the Regular Army. I could have chosen to become a member of the, "unorganized militia," commonly known as male citizens between the ages of 18-45. Read the entire act, plus amendments.

How about a provision empowering, say, the Walmart clerk to exercise personal discretion regarding the sale of ammunition to a surly, rude, abusive, intoxicated or otherwise behaviorally problematic customer without fear of violating anyone's rights or losing their job. Walmart would be required to educate, train and instruct their employees to quietly invoke the law's discretionary delay clause by stalling a would-be ammunition purchaser to whom no clerk would at that moment feel comfortable selling a loaded firearm. Call your supervisor, claim you're out of .223 bullets, disappear into the stock room, call the cops, whatever it takes to avoid the sale. It worked at the first Walmart to which Jared Loughner went thanks to an astute clerk who fearlessly took responsibility and exercised common sense. That clerk is a situational awareness role model whose input ought to be sought when (not if) a point-of-sale discretionary delay clause is crafted. Ray Kelly would no doubt agree it's absurd that our knife laws have always been much stricter than our gun laws. In Manhattan, for example, carrying a knife with a blade as short as four inches long is a felony but a backpack containing enough ammunition to start World War Three is just fine. Nationally, meanwhile, an assault rifle capable of spewing thirty bullets in less than ten seconds is perfectly legal but a switchblade knife of any length is a federal offense merely because it pops open by means of a button. To Governor Cuomo's credit New York's gun laws are finally catching up. Perhaps he agrees it's high time we got the four inch bullets off the streets. A .223 cartridge per se is not literally that long of course but the depth of penetration is far more lethal.

Never in my life have has an individual who is not even a legal resident in my country tell me what to do. Pier's leftest ideals hark to the days of the Nazi propaganda machine. Scare tactics work great on the naive and inexperienced American. I for one own several "assault rifles" and not once have I seen them go and shoot up a school, a movie theater, or even a mall. I thought journalism was to report the facts and not make up fiction to cover your inadequate knowledge on a topic. Take your stupidity back to the U.K. where it belongs. We are tired of your Marxist ideals and opinions. This is the same style as the Nazi's and the Communists spouted in order to gain control of their populations. Educate yourself then debate it.

Some of us are old enough to remember the D.C. Sniper case of 2002 when an AR 15 assault rifle was used to "shoot up" an entire metropolitan area for 23 terrifying days before the pair responsible were apprehended. Ten people died, six of them within a single 24-hour period; three others were critically injured. By the way, fascism and communism are not synonyms. Dick Cheney was always fretting about the danger of fascism in Iraq but when the communists came down the Ho Chi Minh Trail and entered Saigon in April 1975 the diminutive draft dodger was nowhere to be found. One can only conclude Dick has a problem with right-wing extremism abroad but back home it's the lefties he opposes.

The whole world witnessed Sandy Hook. And the fact that the shooter used his mother's AR15 was because it was available to him. It could have been anybody's AR15 he grabbed, a neighbor's, a house down the street, who knows.

It only makes sense to ban assault weapons. If you take away their tools, their job will be much harder, if not impossible.

Banning drugs does not work, banning weapons will not work either. The atrocities committed in the mass shootings occurred not because of the AR15 but because the people where mentally ill and the weapon owner in the Sandy Hook case was negligent. There is not a gun problem in this country, there is a violence problem. Blaming the tool is never going to solve the problem. People intent on causing mass mayhem will always find a way. Had the Mother of the Sandy Hook shooting had only practice safe storage of her weapons would have prevented the AR15 from getting into her son's hands. The problem with this debate is people are bowing to their knee jerk reaction and not trying to solve the real problem.

Hey Viki, avid gun owner here. Lets let teachers teach, my gosh they have enough on their plate to worry about packin a gun. I don't believe thats the answer. Increase security that could help. Where would the money come from, look at TSA, just go to the airport, there are Blue Shirts every where. Seems to be money there???

Absolutely. The notion that military grade equipment be legal for civilians is absurd. These people wouldn't have the brazen confidence to commit these atrocities if they didn't have these options.

The weaponry that's legal to the public at large should have less capacity than what law enforcement carries, not equal or more.

Sorry to burst your bubble Seth but it is legal for a US Citizen to own a fully automatic weapon. Under the 2nd amendment a US Citizen can own weapons for protection and this fact has been upheld by the Supreme Court. If you do not agree with the 2nd amendment then you will have to work to change it or remove it but until that time you'll just have to live with it.

The 2nd amendment has not been grossly misinterpreted. The 2nd amendment is very clear and has been interpreted by the supreme court in its rulings to allow citizens to own weapons to defend them selves. Sorry but that's the way it is in the real world.

And yes I am a tax paying American citizen, and I don't want civilians in our communities to have legal access to assault weapons. The probability of an accident or atrocity goes up with the availability of these weapons.

Seth, I own several AR15 rifles. The word assalt weapon needs to be clarified. In all the years that I have owned this rifle it has never assalted me. I shoot it every weekend, still no assalt. You don't suppose the"operator" of the rifle could have something to do with the way it is used? Think about it.

Get real Seth while were at outlawing "Assault Weapons" we might as well outlaw hammers and blunt instruments since they killed more ppl in 2012 than all rifles combined...IDIOT.

Yea, the total number of deaths by guns is close to that of by car accidents, but the majority of gun deaths are suicides. They are not harming other people. If someone wants die and guns weren’t available, I think most of them will just find another way. This also makes me believe that we need to focus more on mental health issues than banning guns.

In the United States, annual firearm "suicides" total

      2011: 19,766
      2010: 19,392
      2009: 18,735
      2008: 18,223

      Right On.
And if that isn't good enough for you gun haters try this on for size. The SCOTUS says that any weapon that "has some reasonable relationship to the preservation of efficiency of a well regulated militia" is protected by the 2nd amendment.

      Also,

The militia act of 1903 as amended defines the reserve miliatia as all able bodied males, between 17 and 45 not currently in active or reserve armed forces as RESERVE MILITIA.

I'd like to amend to that answer Bill............I want that AR15 because the criminals have AR15's!!! Why wouldn't I want to be as well armed as the criminal?? Why should the law-abiding people in this country accept the IDIOTIC legislation that thinks 10 rounds is enough to protect my family? The criminals have AR15's with 30-round clips....they have hand guns with 15 round clips....why can't I?? The left government is essentially telling me that if I can't protect my family with my little 6-shot revolver, then that's just too damn bad. I'd better be a damn good shot!!!! I don't accept that. It's my choice and my right to own an AR15 or a handgun with a 15 round magazine. If the criminals have those weapons, so should we. I DO NOT accept the thinking that eliminating my ability to have those weapons will keep them out of the hands of the bad guys. There are too many in ciculation already and they will find a way to get them, steal them, and use them.

Piers, Get your head out of the sand. Anyone that believes that banning any type of gun will do away with gun violence Is kidding themselves and anybody that will listen to them. The old addage that if guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns rings very very true. I agree that some of the "loopholes" should be closed. I am a law enforcement officer and I believe that every law abiding citizen in the United States should be armed if they desire. I have also been a paramedic for more than 30 years. I have been on shooting calls but I have never been on one that was done by an "assault" weapon. Seth needs to get a grip. Car accidents claim more lives each year than gun violence does. In the 27 days of this year there have been 37,417 deaths by motor vehicle accident world wide versus 19914 by violence and war combined. That does not break it out by what type of violence, gun, knife of other means. I can make any prediction for years ahead to support my cause.

The whole point and purpose of the 2nd amendment is so that the population has the ability to resist a tyrannical government. It is not for hunting purposes, nor for sport shooting. It is to defend ourselves from a government that is attempting to take away our rights and freedoms. This is why we came to America in the first place... to escape a tyrannical government. Now, due to the average citizen's ignorance about guns, and emotional over reaction to a few mentally unstable people cause a large amount of atrocity...they want to take away some of the very rights and freedoms that the 2nd amendment is there to protect.(what is it? 5 mass shootings in the last few years? out of 200-300MILLION guns owned in this country.) the fact is most of the gun violence in this country is criminal against criminal. I say let them kill each other and leave LAW ABIDING citizen rights alone! Please do increase mental health background checks!! please do have mandatory gun safety classes. but restricting gun types and ammo does absolutely nothing but violate our rights.

You yourself don't help the case of those of us who have semi-automatic rifles when you incorrectly mention the 2nd Amendment. The first words are,"A well regulated militia,..." Many ignorant people are not familiar with the entire amendmentthat they so loudly proclaim. The National Guard of each state is the well regulated militia in place to protect us from tyranny of a federal nature. Seriously.

It seems alot of people on this comments thread need both an education in firearms and an education in history. For one semi automatic rifles like the AR15 are not "Assault Weapons" Assault Weapons are what the media calls semi automatics to instill fear into the dumber population like some of the ones here on this thread. An AR 15 is less lethal than most hunting rifles it holds a smaller caliber bullet but other than that performs EXACTLY the same as any other semi automatic rifle which by the way is 90% of all guns out their. The people on this thread using the term assault weapon obviously have no clue what they are talking about and need to realize that their stupidity is obvious to any that knows the medias propaganda. I challange anyone of you gun control advocates to to tell me what the difference is between an "Assault Rifle" and any other semi automatic rifle or handgun.

Well, no more teasing. I wonder about a sentence from Mr Alex Jones when he got angry in your show. He said his ancesters resisted Santa Anna when he tried to take away their right to bear arms.
Santa Anna, you know him ? He was a military and political Mexican leader. Not the nicest guy, largely a dictator and likely a war criminal. But, when one talks of Santa Anna, it brings him to the US Mexican war and the lost of almost a third of former Mexico. Yes, USA paid a good amount of money for the south-west, but that is not what I am talking about There were people living there. Caught in the afterwath of this war, they had to choose between moving to a new country , alledgedly theirs or keeping these land their fathers plouded and developed, staying where their graves were, unsure of their rights and future, unsure how their neighbours will treat them. I don't know how they were treated, but that some were lynched in the following 30 years. And today, they are "personna non grata" there.
So, my question : did Mr Jones ancesters took part in these lynching ?

Yvon, if you wish to have a serious discussion on the Mexican American War, we can do so... Please do not confuse the War of Texas Independence (1836) with the Mexican American War (1846) they were two separate wars and were over different issues. On April 25, 1846, several thousand Mexican soldiers crossed into the United States and attacked Americans and American soldiers. Mexico declared their intention to advance to New Orleans and shut down American control of the Mississippi River. They started the war and they lost. We didn't have to pay them for what we won during the war but we did pay them.

My agenda is to reduce the likelihood of mass killings by eliminating the accessibility to the tools these killers use.

What's not cool is trying to minimize this event and the many others like it, so the minority can keep their assault weapons to soothe their delusional phobias of some secret tyranny. You don't have to be afraid.

Don't like to talk about Sandy Hook, or Aurora? Let's ban those weapons!

Grant Duwe, a criminologist with the Minnesota Department of Corrections who has written a history of mass murders in America, said that while mass shootings rose between the 1960s and the 1990s, they actually dropped in the 2000s. And mass killings actually reached their peak in 1929, according to his data. He estimates that there were 32 in the 1980s, 42 in the 1990s and 26 in the first decade of the century.

Chances of being killed in a mass shooting, he says, are probably no greater than being struck by lightning.

seth, Sensationalize doesn’t mean ’making things up’. Simply by broadcasting the event over and over and over, an unnecessary disproportional fear among viewers can be created.

The Federal Assault Weapons Ban expired on September 13, 2004. So, it’s been about 8.3 years since, right? According to Sen. Feinstein, 350 people have been killed after the ban was lifted, so let’s calculate, shall we?

        350 / 8.3 = 42.17

So, the number of people we can ‘possibly’ save by banning so-called assault weapons, (as long as attackers totally get discouraged in committing a mass killing simply because they can’t use those guns, and don’t use other guns or methods instead), is “average 42 per year”.

Now, please don’t misunderstand me, I’m not at all saying the lives of 42 people are not valuable, but it’s simply a mystery to me why people are so obsessed with banning assault weapons when WAAAY MORE than 42 people are killed from other causes every year. Are their lives somehow worth less to you than the lives of gun victims?

If 42 deaths are a good reason to deny responsible users from having certain tools, then we should perhaps ban Porsches, Ferraris, Corvettes, BMWs and others which have way exceeded capability of what we need. Though this is my assumption, all those sports cars combined may have killed more than 42 people in a year, and you think that’s because of the type of the CAR, and not that there was something wrong with the DRIVER, and you don’t think he could’ve done the same thing with a non-sports car??

The fact of the matter is the ban on assault rifles and military style weapons should not even be considered. The 2nd amendment was not put in place for the sole purpose for citizens to have the right to bare arms. It was put in place to prevent a government take over. Russia, Cuba.. among other countries have all experienced this. Who, if the situation ever presented itself will raise up and protect us as citizens against a government or military take over ? How do we as citizens take back our freedom and country – the use of non military weapons alone will not win that fight

Piers! I understand your issue with gun control but an AR-15 will have MUCH LESS carnage than a machine gun. To test this out, all you need to do is go to a firing range and do the experiment yourself. Rent an uzi or other suitable automatic weapon and an Ar-15 and group targets downrange together like you are imagining them in your hypothetical. Set a time, count the number of rounds downrange and number of hits. It's that simple to have actual data. That and you can write off the entire day as research! Seriously, you are losing me on the credibility with this issue. Get off your butt and try it!

"With a shotgun capable of holding more than three shells, unless it is plugged with a one-piece filler, incapable of removal without disassembling the gun, so its total capacity does not exceed three shells"

The reason you put a plug in a shot gun so it only holds three shells to hunt ducks, is so the hunters don't deplete the duck population. Its a law passed by the Fish and Game Commission.

(sorry if this is a double reply, my last one might not have posted)

Yes, I realize the intent, but , there is a daily LIMIT on the amount of ducks one can bag. All the plug does is make one sit in a blind longer. How does this really change anything, but slow me down putting some extra food going on the table? The bag limit remains the same, no matter how quick one can shot ducks!

After 9/11 the national guard was "guarding airports" armed with the M16, however the weapons were not loaded because apparently an M16 is too dangerous ! We need congress to hold hearings to confirm the the National Guard was under orders to "guard" with unloaded weapons.

....also, since you've invested in the range per my last comment, try the same test with a non-revolver (semi automatic) pistol and 10 9 round magazines, then a regular old WalMart reloading shotgun. I think you may be surprised at the results. I believe you will find the most kills in your imagined scenario will be the machine gun and shotgun, and almost a tie with the Ar-15 and the pistol. The assault weapon's claim to fame is not mass killing, it's delivering a faster heaver projectile further, not faster. In combat one should be able to sustain pistol fire at a rate that's 3-4 rounds less per each 9 round clip.

The real problem is to cultivate a civil society whereby crime is not glorified but considered shameful. Such mentors to teach this will have to finally be truthful and work with known "facts".Religious horrors must end. Present day religious leaders preach a vengeful God who drowns his people and burns them in Hell. Is this an intelligent model good for us to follow? This is why the world is in chaos as each religious mentor recommennds his brand of revenge. This is where we must begin to end violence. Humanity has to be taught to admire and practice brotherhood for the benefit of all. It just wont come!

I don't personally own any guns, but family and friends do. I think it is crazy to put weapons in our schools, teachers, principals or armed guards. Schools are for education. I do think we need to revise the requirements for gun ownership. I think law abiding, responsible, mentally competent people should have the right to own guns to protect their self and their families or use for sport. Responsible gun ownership would require the owner to make sure it is kept in a safe secure place where a known mentally disturbed son, as in the Sandy Hook shooting, wouldn't have access to it. Banning clips and semi-automatic weapons from law abiding, responsible, mentally competent people is not the answer to this problem. I manage an apartment complex and there was an incident where one of our residents had a conceal carry permit. He obtained it several years ago. Since getting the permit he became mentally unstable but there was nothing in place for follow-up licensing to continue to carry it. He used to bring it in his jacket pocket and always had his hand in that pocket. His wife was afraid he would shoot her or one of their neighbors. The law protected his rights to carry since he had the permit, it didn't protect his wife or neighbors. Thankfully his health declined and he required assisted living and they had the right to not allow him to carry any longer, but until then his wife nor I had anyway to protect our community. I don't have the answers, this issue needs a lot of thought. Something needs to be done. All of the negative sarcastic non-sense on these posts are crazy and useless. People should try to come up with some good suggestions that might help the situation instead of finger pointing and tearing people down. A positive approach on the issue!

Some gun right emphasizer compare gun violence deaths to deaths from car accidents. I wonder what do you do to curb car accidents? regulation, regulation, regulation. Car need to be registered and INSURED; Driver needs a license; Car insurance goes up or down based on driver; Even if a established driver have a young driving age kid at home, his/her insurance goes up. All these makes sense in terms of CAPITALISM. But, interestingly, they don't when we think of gun!!! Things don't add up NRA. Embrace regulation so that you can distinguish 'law-abiding' citizens.

I commend Piers for at least trying to stimulate a conversation on the gun situation in this country. I could care two hoots that he's not from this country. However, as is the case with most of the other mainstream news conversations on gun control and 2nd amendment rights undertaken since the eye opening events of 2012, I've only heard one person actually discuss what the 2nd amendment actually states, and this was Jon Stewart. I'm aware that the Supreme Court has made a ruling as to its validity for citizens to possess firearms, but, I'm sorry, there was not, and still is not, any discussion as to how any of this relates to the first four words of the 2nd amendment: "A well regulated militia....." If you need a refresher on what a militia is, look it up! There is never any talk on this aspect of the amendment or even any further ruminations on its meaning in the amendment! Personally, I think the Supreme Court got it wrong, and it's a wonder why this was never clarified or expounded upon early on in our history. As the first sentence of a paragraph sets up the subject of the remainder of the paragraph, these four words frame the subject under which citizens have the right to bear arms.

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." That is the 2nd Amendment. I wish our Forefathers had installed the latest version of Microsoft Office in their quill pens because then perhaps their run-on sentence would've been corrected and they would've written it as "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, AND the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." That one comma after 'State' and before 'the' really throws people.

Oh Piers, I so enjoyed your show tonight. Why do I get the feeling you thought every one of your guests, with the known exception of Dana Loesch, was going to agree with you? Although you weren't nearly as rude as you have been in the past so perhaps you are learning...

In answer to your constant annoying question of "Why does anyone need an assault weapon used for mass killings like the AR-15?"... No one NEEDS anything, we just WANT THEM!! We don't need a reason. So stop asking, you are reminiscent of a 4 year old who keeps pestering away until he gets the answer he wants. You'll never get that answer so save your breath.

And since you are obviously confused about which weapons do what and leave holes of what size, you should have Jessie Duff on your show. She gave a wonderful demonstration on FOX for Sean Hannity and showed the different calibers of various handguns as well as the AR-15. You might be surprised to see that the AR-15 made the smallest hole because Mr. Stoner didn't invent that weapon to kill, it's purpose was to simply injure, thus causing the enemy to emerge to help their fellow comrade, THEN we attack. But that is neither here nor there, the point is she demonstrated the various calibers and for those who are not educated about firearms it will be a real insight.

Lastly, I wish you'd stop making people who enjoy and appreciate gun ownership out to be war mongers who hate children. You are offensive to law abiding citizens everywhere. You are more than welcome to go back to the UK anytime, no one is stopping you... trust me.

I am for better background checks for gun owners and their safe keeping! I do not understand, how guns are stored at home, is not getting addressed! In most european countries, guns have to be looked away in a safe to prevent access for other people and family members. Restricting certain guns is not really helping in this case. And why is this issue getting raised after Sandy Hook, where not a single bullet got fired from an AR-15 but 4 different hand guns. The AR-15 was still in the trunk of the vehicle after the massacre! Nobody really cares to mention that on tv, because it would be counterproductive against an assault weapon ban. But restricting them is not right either. The U.S has distanced themselves from reality to far already and is not trusted by its people anymore. Almost every war in the last few years has been created out of lies to invade foreign countries for economical reasons and not freedom, making the U.S not trust worthy anymore. It is just common sense for american citizen to arm themselves in case of martial law, national crisis or other personal infringments. When the population has no possibility to defend themselves against a supressor, being it the government or not, all is lost then. Switzerland has a mandatory military training and they get to keep their assault rifles at home, in case of an emergency! And they have even less killings per capita then
the U.S. The problem is not the guns, but the people selling them without a proper background check coupled with a psychological evaluation and, gun owners storing guns inproperly. All
massacres could have been prevented if these measures would have been in place. And guns don't kill people. People kill people. In china a guy stabbed around 20 people to death in a school, proving that a gun is not needed to create a massacre. Are we trying to outlaw kitchen knives now? Let's make a license to own a kitchen knife, after all, a small knife can do the same job. maybe not as efficient, but it still cuts meat! For every problem is a solution. The U.S is just incompetent to look at other countries for advice. A common response I hear almost every day on various subjects, that this would not work in the U.S, because its people are different! This already shows how stubborn
and conservstive this nation is. Or should we just call them plain stupid?

On september 11, 2001, the boss of a trading company in the wtc tells her secretary to fix him a cup of tea! Asking him jow he would like his tea he screams, PLAIN!

And this was also a lie! maybe the joke was real, but the way it happend was not, and that is fact and even disputed now by most countries as well. But as the saying goes, you only have to tell a lie often enough to be accepted as the truth. Evidence does not matter! This country is on a free fall to the bottom! Land of the free? The U.S has more people incarcerated then any other nation in the world per capita! But not amongst the top 10 on violent crimes? This alone already tells a lot itself! And there is no country i ever heard of fining one of its citizen for having a vegetable garden, drinking raw milk and so on! This country is just too retarded to survive. I look at it like the movie where a timetraveler gets to be the president because he has an IQ over 100, as the hope to rescue their nation!

What needs to be banned/more heavily regulated are the selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors (SSRI's) A witch's brew of one part troubled male, one part daily dose of SSRI drug, one part intense 6-hour violent video gaming sessions,, one part violent movies, yields one weapon-seeking, totally non-empathetic psychopath.
Serotonin not taken up naturally and artificially allowed to left to sitting between the nerve synapses in males (much more in young males), becomes an excitotoxin.
Of course the fact that pharmaceutical manufacturers are some of the biggest advertisers in media has colored medias ability to view the evidence with a critical eye.

You antigun ppl should be ashamed of yourselves, The Sandy Hook tragedy was due to one mans mental illness and willingness to slaughter innocent children not because of a tool!!! On many occasions a sadistic killer has found other ways to kill several ppl at once withought the use of guns like the Oklahoma city bombing for instance. Do you people honestly think that this guy who obviously wanted to kill as many ppl as possible wouldnt have found another way to do so? You morons blame "Assault Weapons" which is a made up term btw yet Columbine happened with hanguns and there were more victims. A person who is sick and wants to kill will find a way to do so. I thnk that a carefully done insurance requirement can greatly reduce gun injuries. It’s possible to have good insurance which provides for everyone hurt, has the insurers discourage unsafe practices including letting one’s gun be lost or stolen and still is not too much of a burden on legal gun owners. It starts with requiring manufacturers to have a no-fault insurer that only gets off the hook when another insurer takes over. Lost or stolen or diverted guns are still covered by the last insurer. That makes it unnecessary to register guns or enforce the insurance purchase below the manufacturer level. There are many details on http://guninsuranceblog.com about how this could be done.

No one I've heard on his show has given Piers a clear answer to his persistent question: Why does anyone need a gun that can fire so many rounds and fire them so quickly? What does anyone need 100 rounds for? What possible legitimate purpose does it serve? Fair questions.

So let me give several answers. 1). Just from a purely "individual freedom" standpoint, it's not anyone's place to decide for others what they can buy with their own money. Some people buy $250,000 Ferraris that come with 700 hp and can go over 200 mph. What does anyone "need" that for? You can't drive that fast anywhere, and it uses a lot of gas. So should that be illegal, too? 2). The business owners of New Orleans had a "need" for those weapons when marauding gangs came to steal their livelihoods. 3). The only reason Piers wants to deny hi-cap guns to everyone is that he fears more Sandy Hook-type events by a few. But that assumes those buying such weapons have ill intent. But if a buyer has no ill intent, he isn't a mental case, he's not a felon, he's got no restraining orders against him–in other words, there's no disqualification involved–there's no reason he should be denied the weapon of his choice because he's not the problem. You don't deny rights to everyone just because a few misuse the same rights. You don't prohibit alcohol just because some drive drunk. 4). These guns are only designed to kill a lot of people fast, you say? That's exactly right. They are. And, assuming the person who is using it is one of the aforementioned "good guys" and not someone who obtained it illegally, the only people he'll be shooting at are bad guys in defense of his home or property. So what's the problem?

Those are a few suggested answers, Piers. See if you can wrap your head around them.

As NRA have made it very clear they have no intention of making any compromise in their position in the gun debate I don't think there is much to be gained in taking this debate seriously. People who may need powerful high-capacity guns…

        1. People who live near the Mexican border in order to protect themselves against Mexican gangs. Police could take a half hour to arrive, so how would you hold them off with just 10 bullets, if there are multiple assailants with more than 10 bullets in each of their guns? (FYI: criminals don’t follow the law.)

        2. People who want to be prepared if their town should go into anarchy after a catastrophic disaster. We can’t always count on our government as we all saw in Katrina.

Give me one good reason why they shouldn't have those guns.

How many lives a year do you think we may possibly be able to save by banning so-called assault weapons? (btw, the weapon Lanza did not use, it was left in his car) Another poster Nae did a calculation in his post (way up above on this thread), and the number is 42. And that is ONLY WHEN perpetrators say “oh, gee, there are no AR-15s... okay I’m gonna totally give up on mass killing now.” How likely do you think that would happen, honestly?!?

Of course 42 lives are important, but like rightaway999 pointed out, if you are talking about SAVING LIVES, let’s ban alcohol again. It didn’t work the first time, but give it another shot, right? All the responsible drinkers should make a sacrifice for the sake of protecting innocent lives. I’m guessing we could save more than 42 children a year from a tragedy involving alcohol. Why not?? What are we waiting for??

U.S. Gun Debate, Mobbing and Organized Crime

    Q. Piers, how long do you think it will be before the mob abuses another citizen, tries to corner him through homelessness, and manipulates him to "hit back at society" through a rage shooting or massacre to advocate gun control?

    Q. Piers, how long before the mob targets another citizen, abuses him with energy assault weapons, powerful radar aimed at inflicting deadly cancers through bone marrow damage, cell damage, inflammation, lung scars, etc. and manipulate him into killing another Federal judge and Senator to advocate gun control?

    Q. Piers, how long before the mob targets another citizen, convinces him that people are on the Hook in New Jersey following Hurricane Sandy and ignored while they suffer in the cold, and that if he commits a massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary with his brothers license from New Jersey it will make this injustice visible, to advocate gun control?

    A. ?

"The reason you find so many of us very reluctant to go down this road is we believe each step down this road leads to the next step and the next step and the next step," said the former Speaker of the House. "We actually think the Second Amendment is central to our liberties, .. "

Piers, I think he's on to the British.

British regimes subjugate the population by first disarming them, and through corruption and organized crime. They use homelessness and an assault weapon to do it, cancer causing powerful radar assault weapons, their "mob" and secret police. It is hidden through homelessness, censorship, and sickness, deadly cancers.

They are using organized crime to commit acts of terror to advocate gun control, I know.

    U.S. vs. U.K. (Canada)

The 2nd Amendment is about a well armed population deters dictatorships and tyranny. (freedom)

The U.K. advocates a defenseless population and uses a cancer causing assault weapon on targeted citizens, censorship, and homelessness. (hidden dictatorship and tyranny)

    Tyranny

Killing millions of Jews Germany, gassing Kurds Iraq, energy assaults weapons, powerful radar to inflict deadly cancers in Canada and British regimes.

I imagine that if gun owners were subject to liability and punishment for allowng minors and disturbed house members easy access to Assault Styled weapons that AR violence would be reduced.

she would have defended herself to the police, as a registered gun owner, she would be investigated as a VICTIM and the state would known who shes is as design. And limited ( under ten bullets as managable) would have caused hopefully no or limited assidental ( besides the intruder) damage to the innocent ) as if you were on the streets as a non gun or knife holder as most americans , you may be victim to a horrible crime the causes deaths. as to that women its an american law to be legal registered as a gun holder. and the system would be highly successful , more refined. We accept the law amd a risk of being attacked so every american should not be making every excuse in their twisted mind of why you think your right is violated to be more special with the odds of my safty and my childrens more of a major increase of being shot by an illegal or probably a semi automatic kiiling machine. please write me back with a logical responce with substance and not rhetoric, PLEASE! sm Date: Tue, 29 Jan 2013 16:56:05 +0000 To: sm9802@hotmail.com

        Scott,

If my son stole my AR and attacked his high school, I should be held liable if I did not secure it from him (I'm not talking hand guns) with some sort of gun lock or safe. If he broke in and STOLE the AR from me I should be held NOT responsible.

I don't need an AR to defend my home from crime I need it to defend my country from tyranny (foreign or domestic). I use handguns to protect my home from crime. They are kept in palm print combination safes around the house that my family knows how to open. I myself installed a home alarm system and security camera system that I can self monitor over the internet. That is how I protect my home and secure my country.

        Peace,

Easy said, easy done JohnB :0)

I pay 6.2% SS tax. My employer pays 6.2% SS tax also for me. Essentially, I am forced to save 12.4% (not including medicare tax) of my income year in and year out. If the Supreme Court reversed itself and gave me properties rights back to that forced savings I, and others who paid at least 20 years into it, would have 20 years (of secured from abject poverty) retirement.

If i made $50,000 last year and I put $10,000 into a re-imagined Health Saving Account so that my income tax would start at $40,000 and not $50,000, then between me and my employer I could pay for catastrophic health insurance and pay out of pocket for primary, exigent, and chronic care. I could pay out of pocket that is if everyone had to pay out of pocket except for catastophic care.

But will govt. set us free John? Doubt it :0)

BTW, you could only take out money from that HSA if only if it was to pay medical bills. It would be money pulled out of the regular economy and set into the health care economy only to be let out when doctors, nurses, hospitals, etc spend it as free citizens.

        And cut defense back 5.5%.

We are grouping several totally different and unrelated problems here with totally different causes. Let me just point out a few. Suicides with a gun are caused by depression, gang violence is caused by something else, and mass shootings are a totally different animal. Unless I am mistaken, the first two are the majority of the gun deaths. So, in the end, an AWB does nothing to stop the majority of gun deaths in America. Let’s take the next step. Let’s ban all semi-automatic weapons. We can all run out and celebrate? The results of the deaths by gun violence still don’t change for the two major causes of death. The mass shootings are now using revolvers or something much worse, but that accounts for only a handful of deaths. So we need to focus at least as much attention on the “WHY” as we have been focusing on the “HOW”. Anything short of that will fail.

(1.) The argument that AR-15s and similar guns are not assault weapons because they are not auto firing is trivial because any practiced shooter can exceed 8 rounds per second in semi mode. And, in bump mode any semi, whether rifle or pistol, can approach full automatic being able to exhaust a high capacity clip in about the same time frame. Additionally, any high school age person can modify a semi into auto mode with a minimum of skill and materials.
(2.) Gun protection advocates seem to conveniently ignore the DAILY death by accident and suicide just to children and teens when guns are present. Even amongst military and ex-military the gun suicide rate is increasing and we are left to wonder if during moments of despair & depression if those rates would be so high without the finality that guns provide.
(3.) As for home protection, the overwhelming majority of burglars are in search of the tele, microwave, etc.to sell; they're not there for a random thrill kill. Is protecting the tele worth a person's life? I can live losing the tele vs. that alternative. A serious weaponized money seeking burglar is not going into residential homes but stores and banks.

I watched PM attack a young woman on his show asking for ways to curb gun violence in America without arming everyone. Here's your answer. People are the problem, the left is the problem, Piers Morgan is the problem, Obama is the problem, stop looking for easy answers, tere are none. Good people don't kill poeple as guns don't kill people. Bad people use guns to kill people and the left makes excuses for them all. ENOUGH!

Editorial: Blood On The Hands Of The LEFT

    By: Howard Galganov

I was just about to publish my latest editorial as promised, on Canada’s Supreme Court Decision to suspend Freedom of Speech, in favor of promoting one language over all others.

THEN THE CONNECTICUT SCHOOL SHOOTING HAPPENED.

Next to language issues in Canada, and a failed Judicial System in both of our countries, what happened in Connecticut takes precedence.

I won’t waste words describing my feelings, because how I feel about as many as, and maybe more than 26 people murdered, including 18 children is indescribable.

BUT I WILL TELL YOU WHY IT HAPPENED:

It didn’t happen because of the so-called gun culture, or because of poor security at the school. It happened because of the modern LEFTIST culture that has removed all semblances of personal responsibility and respect.
    1. DISCIPLINE OUR CHILDREN

It happened because of the Hollywood and television types who lecture the Conservatives on how people should live, while they make FORTUNES producing absolute FILTH in their movies and on television programs.
    2. CENSOR WHAT OUR CHILDREN WATCH

It happened because of reality television shows that demean humanity. And shows that make people laugh at the pain and humiliation of others.
    3. CENSOR THE SO CALLD "ENTERTAINMAENT" MEDIA

It happened because multi-millionaire computer game producers create UGLY digital scenarios that poison young minds with abject and gratuitous violence.
    4. OUTLAW THE VIOLENCE IN COMPUTER GAMES, that's not free speech, it's incendiary speech.

It happened because the school system doesn’t teach values, and promotes the idea that everything goes. And that all people are equal regardless of the truth. And that no one ever fails.
    5. BRING DISCIPLINE AND CORPORAL PUNISHMENT BACK TO SCHOOLS, coddling is the enemy of discipline, reponsibilty and honor.

It happened because LEFTISTS won’t allow concerned and loving parents to discipline their children, or raise their children the way they want to.
    6. GIVE PARENTS THEIR PARENTAL RIGHTS BACK AND ELIMINATE CHILDREN’S RIGHTS

It happened because far too many Liberals spend far too much time and effort ridiculing and attacking people who want to live by the lessons of the Bible and the Torah.

If owning an Ar-15 by a private citizen is so bad, why then is the "Department of Homeland Security" purchasing 7000 AR-15's that have selective firing.

Selective firing means the firearm can be used as a "automatic firearm" (continually fires when the trigger is pulled in) or a "semi-automatic firearm (fires a round each time the trigger is pulled)

There is one more thing about this purchase – the firearms they are purchasing are called "personal defense fireamrms" but yet the AR-15 "semi-automatic firearm" that John Q Public owns is called a "assault weapon".

Explain that one if you can.

Thats why you people cant answer a simple question about simple safety legislation like : why cant every american register their gun in a national data base? You want to not be liable if you shoot someone and it isnt a true defensive reaction shot and a Oh Im gonna stand my ground idea! Really steve, if the homeland security, or SWAT can have a auto or semiautomatic weapon, Steve and every other quack can have one also. See the ignorant analogy! Stevie!

A registered firearm means nothing when the person who does the shooting is nowhere to be found at the crime scene. So tell me – if a person shoots someone dead and leaves the scene of the crime how is "registration" going to help police find the criminal – it won't. Explain that if you will?

Piers is so opinionated, angry, and caustic that he is part of the problem. I turn to CNN for my news. I often disagree with your commentators, but most at least try to be objective. Piers does not even pretend to be objective. Piers talks over his guests, interrupts constantly and is just too hostile for the role he fills at CNN. When he is on, i have to change the channel. AND YET.... you gun nuts keep repeating these obscene lies about the govt coming to take away your guns.... ????? That's why background checks are useless; ya'll need psychiatric tests to see how mentally stable (or unstable) you are. Only those who pass these psychiatric tests should be allowed to own weapons of mass destruction....

I know I did the right thing because EVERYONE knows the only way to stop a bad kid with a baseball bat is to give a good kid a baseball bat.

Most gun owners are responsible and never commit a crime with a weapon. When a mentally ill person kills 36 people in a school, despite tough local gun control laws, and its deemed a national emergency requiring..... more ineffective gun control laws to regulate responsible gun owners, not mentally ill people and not criminals. Contrast that to this: The CDC estimates that THIRTY SIX THOUSAND people will die from seasonal flu this flu season. The 36,000 will largely consist of infants, the weak and the elderly. They will die slow, agonizing deaths. An estimated 200,000 people will be hospitalized but will survive. Who is responsible for these deaths? In most cases the flu will be spread by sane people who know they are ill and highly contagious, yet choose to go to work, school, and other public places and thoughtlessly spread the deadly virus. If the government wants to save lives, it should focus on reducing threats that will have a greater impact through changing the behavior of sane yet irresponsible people.

Your logic is illogical. The Newtown shooter's MOTHER owned the guns he used. She was a "legal, legitimate, so-called "responsible" gun owner.... Seems like all the those "responsible gun owners" out there in our society are the ones responsible for the deaths in accidental shootings AND the illegal gun trafficking.... Guns are legitimately sold from the manufacturers, then.... somehow..... someway.... these "legally purchased guns" somehow.... someway.... get "sold" to the criminals.... Can anyone spell "straw men/deals"???? Anyone????? Anyone???? Gosh. I guess it's those "responsible gun owners" who "sell" guns to the criminals who are destroying this country. Go ahead and try and convince us that all gun owners are "Angelic gun owners...." who don't sell to criminals.... Go ahead... Make my day.... 🙂

Piers, seriously.....do your homework so you don't look like a jack ass.

    1. Sandy Hook – 9mm pistols used...AR15 was in the trunk of his car.

    2. Columbine, Va. Tech, – 9mm pistols...no assault weapons.

    3. Although you are fond of saying that automatic weapons are banned and illegal, they in fact are not. Read the NFA of 1934.

    4. 100 bullets in one minute is stretching it. The cyclic rate for an AR15 is 30-60 rounds per minute. It would actually take close to 2 minutes to empty a 100 round drum.

    5. High capacity magazines...a 100 round drum weighs about 15 lbs. loaded. Added to the 6.7 lbs of gun, this will make consealing or operating this weapon a bit difficult. Change out of the magazine would not be as fast as with a 30 round clip. (if you wanted to carry around an extra 15 lbs of ammo) The drums are bulky, heavy and hard to line up sometimes. This type of magazine is intended for single use.

    6. Differences between the AR15 and the M16 in terms of comparison in a mass shooting....The AR15 would have prolonged the event due to the slower rate of fire, and number of magazine changes in a given time. With a full auto M16, the event would have likely been over in less than a minute.

The M-16 fire rate is 700-950 rounds per minute. A 100 round drum would have been emptied in roughly 6 seconds.
Or four 30 round clips in just over 6 seconds. Meaning one would have had to reload every 1.5 seconds.

Aside from the probability that an attacker would have run out of ammo very soon after entering, maintaining control of a full auto weapon enough to stay on target is extremely difficult without proper training and physical strength.

It would seem that there is not much practicality in equating the two weapons at all.

If I were you Piers, I would also stop using Aurora as an example. You paint this as if 100 rounds were fired in a minute, and 70 people were shot. Think about that for a second....he hit 70 moving targets in a dark theater rapid firing 21 lbs. of semi-auto weapon and ammo? All in a minute? I don't care how good of a shot you are, that's a pretty f******g spectacular story. Maybe you should go to a range and try to hit 70 STATIONARY targets rapid firing that weapon and see how plausible this would have actually been.

Piers, you should do some more research to avoid looking like a complete boob on national television.

Jag, my "rant" as you call it is in response to Pier's facination with the AR15 over all other weapons that are actually being used in these shootings. Now as far as Newtown is concerned, I am not the one using dead children as a political push, nor a ratings boost. And as far as a solution to violence of any kind is concerned, here are some ideas for you:

        1. Stop having kids out of wed lock, they need father figures.
        2. Stop letting the government raise your children for you.
        3. Teach them right from wrong so that they don't get so easily influenced by violent movies, games, etc.
        4. Don't let the TV babysit your kids.
        5. Discipline your children and stop trying to be their buddy.
        6. Pay attention to what your kids are doing, and how they are feeling.

I do all of the above with my two boys. Their teachers have told me often that they are so well behaved and that they wish they had more like them in their classrooms.

So instead of attacking my parenting abilities, maybe look at your own and ask yourself what life lessons are they learning with you? That it is okay to forfiet freedom for the illusion of safety? Or that it is okay to blame the tool for the actions of the owner? That the government will take care of them? That personally attacking people for stating the truth simply because you don't agree with it is acceptable?

The truth is there is no way to completely prevent evil acts like this, no more than there is a way to completely prevent any other tragedy. But, the solution does not come from more restictions and laws. It starts at home. When society changes its practices at home, they will change in public as well. This is not a new concept.

If you are as smart as you think you are, you should realize this already.

    Piers,

Thank you for taking a stand and enduring the subsequent abuse! The only way to bring about meaningful change is to make everyone aware of how many people are killed and injured by guns. Mass shootings get the headlines, but every day in the US, hundreds of individual shooting occur that we don't hear about. If at the end of each of your shows, you showed a list of the people killed and wounded the day before, it would show the enormous human cost of gun violence. Eventually enough people will say, "Enough! We deserve better. We don't have to live this way!", just as the people of the UK and Australia have already done.

I agree with you 100% when it comes to list the people who are killed – but lets not stop there. Lets also list the ages of these people whom are doing all the killing. This country has a "violence problem" and the violence is coming from the X, Y and melinimum generation.

You may think that banning firearms, or imposing more firearms control is going to stop the problem – well – it won't.

We have a generation of people in this country whom have no regard for themselves, others or anything they own. They could care less about anybody or anything – and that's the vast majority of the X,Y and melinimum generation are all about.

Who are the ones doing all the killings, car jackings, bank robberies, house robberies. Hell you can't even go into a McDonalds without having to worry about being shot down or knocked on the side of the head by a young violent person who was dissed.Hell just last week on a college campus people were shot because one person bumped into another person.

The young population like to be "sensationalized" – they like to be in the front of the line – facebook is an example of that – all they like to do is text, tweet, facebook and blog. Hell they can't even talk face to face with someone when dealing with problems. And if they do, they become violent if it doesn't go their way. Look at "the worlds dumbest" and you will see what I mean when it comes to violence – Cops is another program that gives a pretty good picture of just how violent the younger generation of this country are.

Solve that problem and "firearms ownership" won't be a problme

My problem is that these idiots don't even know what they are wanting to ban, but it's full steam ahead on assault rifles. Let's not kid ourselves though. This is not about safety, or assault rifles. It is about a step forward in abolishing the 2nd amendment the way they did the 4th amendment. One by one our rights are being stripped away. But let's say that they really are interested in the assault weapons aspect of this, and they really believe that you can save lives by banning them. Why is the AR-15 on the list while the Ruger Mini 14 is not? They both fire the same round, they both can take high capacity magazines, they both have the same fire rate. Yet the Mini 14 is excluded from Feinstien's list of banned guns. I will tell you why. If you go to wall-mart.com and search for mini 14, it will pull up what appears to be a hunting rifle named the "Ranch Rifle". Now go to google images and search for mini 14 tactical. Same gun, same bullet, but the tactical version has the same scary looking plastic stock and accessory rails as the AR-15. Yet, it escapes the fate of the AR-15. Why? Because they are not really interested in banning "assault weapons" based on destructive power as Piers so fondly likes to believe. They are banning "Scary looking guns".

Another example: Also on the list is the Kel-Tec Sub 9mm rifle. (Also looks scary) Yet, it actually shoots 9mm pistol rounds, has the same fire rate as a pistol, and even uses a pistol magazine. No more dangerous than the PISTOL it is modeled after, the P-11 9mm HAND GUN!

This is proof positive that the bans have no REAL purpose other than to promote a political agenda.
This whole thing is nothing more than a knee-jerk reaction sparked by tragedy. Much like the Iraq war after 9/11.

If they were seriously convinced as Piers seems to be that assault weapons are the problem, they would have done much more research on the weapons and selected them based on facts before making a list of just scary looking guns.

We have an obligation to do the right thing. To try something to see if it works is not appropriate for this situation. Much study and research needs to be conducted. We need to ask serious questions and find serious answers. What causes a young man like Adam to lose his humanity? Are law abiding citizens doing their part to keep their weapons secure? How are criminals obtaining their guns? We need to find a logical solution to the problem. A five year old who sees his mother stabbed to death will believe that knives are bad and no one should have a knife. I can understand where that five year old is coming from. From a five year old's perspective that would seem logical. The recent tragedies has caused many to have a child like perspective. I encourage you to be sympathetic with the citizens among us who have a simple solution based on an emotion. I also encourage you to continually seek a perspective that is logical and deeper. I fear that the loudest ones in our society tend to have a five year old's perspective and can only cry out a five year old's solution. Fellow citizens and law makers we need to think hard and evaluate our emotions. Let us not be quick to encourage laws that are based on emotion or on a narrow perspective. Let us not lose our freedoms for the sake of false security. If we continue down this path each new law that is passed will only erode at our freedoms. The violence and the problems will still prevail. One day we will look up and no longer be free.
    Sincerely,
    J. E. Acosta (A citizen of the USA who does not own a gun or have anything sharper than a butter knife but loves his freedom and is sad for the freedoms we have lost.)

Very well put. I am not a gun owner either, but I will fight tooth an nail for my right to own whatever gun I choose, should I choose to. I agree that this whole thing about gun control is a knee-jerk reaction fueled by emotion and not logic. Piers often asks the question why does anyone NEED an AR-15. The answer Piers is simple. We don't need one gun any more than the next, but it is our right to own one over the other if we so choose. For the same reason you are allowed to get on national television and make a complete ass of yourself. You choose to do so, it is your right once you become a citizen, no one is sensoring your words. You say what you say because you can. Well, we own what we own because we can. When some politician says we can't, it is like them telling you that you can't say what you say on the air. It is sensorship either way, and some of us just don't like the idea or premise of it. Maybe some people are okay having a politician decide what they can own, what they can say, or even how large of soda they can buy, but most of us don't want the government that is supposed to be working for us, to step in and start telling us how to live our lives. As Ted Nugent said last night. Just leave us the hell alone. Government interfering in peoples home lives will result in nothing but wasted energy when they could be investing that energy in things that will actually make a difference.

As scary as David may sound, he has a point. Do you know what the weapon in most abundance was at Columbine? It wasn't guns. It was explosives. Harris and Klebold constructed a total of 99 improvised explosive devices of various designs and sizes. Although, the weapon of primary use was a TEC 9, 9mm hand gun that was fired a total of 55 times.
Point being, if the gun was out of the picture, do you think they would not have used some of the 99 explosive devices which can be detonated simontaneously in fraction of a second? Mass murder/suicide over and done with at the single push of a button. Think about that for a minute and ask yourself if removing the gun from the equation really will help with stopping people so intent on killing.

    Piers,

There will end up being many solutions to senseless killings here in the US and around the world. I say killings because if we took all the guns away we all know senseless killings, contaminating water supplies, whatever, will not just stop. Over time we can watch the statics and hopefully prove we are making progress.

One part of the solution is monitoring people that seriously show signs that they need it. An example of this can be seen at the link below.

    http://personalpowerproject.com/power-of-our-freedom

Your conviction to finding answers is greatly appreciated so keep up the good work. We need the dialog and the debates if we plan to make any progress on the senseless killings here and around the world. Thank you Piers.

This may be slightly off topic but I think should be part of the discussion. Per CDC reporting in 2010 there were 19,392 suicide deaths by firearms and 11,078 homicides by firearm. That means 64% of gun deaths are suicides not murder, self defense, or etc. I'm sure this varies year to year but I heard it's been as high as 80%. Even more interesting the person to complete suicide is most often not the gun owner. If we are addressing guns shouldn't we be targeting the area with the most casualties?

Yes, The can be said for every ignorant person who you tell your veiw there needs to be a nationalgun registory to start the process in a few tears to weed out criminals and neglecance, But LEGAL GUN HOLDERS immaturaly say were messing with their 2nd amendment right and were trying to ban hand guns, shot guns and rifles. How loud do you have to speak that it wont effect you if you use common sense and dont break the law. Better use better judgement when you get mad and have immediate access to your weapon. My childrens safety is A #1. Dont give a crap about the fun you have playing armymen with your assault weapons> Were accountable for all stray bullets!!!! You Dont want that for our children!

It would seem to me that I am not the ignorant one , I was not debating an issue i WAS MAKING A PERSONAL Statement , your position does amaze me a bit, why the attack ? I have as such of a right to my opinion as the next person, I earned it with four years in the United States Marine corp of which 30 months was serving in Vietnam , just a note; stay bullets are normally fired by the bad guys , law abiding & respectful weapon owners don't fire a weapon unless they have a clear target! I have no need to hide behind the second amendment , i will guarantee you NO ONE WILL EVER TAKE MY WEAPONS FROM ME !

No No perry, stray bullets are fired from guns from negligent and agry people. dont confuse a criminal with ignoranc. I apreciate your service to our coutry, really I do. But Im going along with the majority of americans that want our childrens safety back along with smart, commonsense gun laws, Including a national registration. No one should have anything to hide and it will curb an itch to use a gun at a fight! Thank you

Sorry Dana, but the plan was a plan and we knew there wasant going to be a enough votes for a ban at this time. ( its like buying a car from a sleazy car dealer haggling) the national gun registry is going to happen in less then a year, you can beat your life savings on. 2. every republican that voted againsst has revealed his alligance to the outdated 1950;s way and just sabbatoged his next election, gold in the bank for the majority america to get back the house. and we will refine and re-affire the aganda.

    What's up?

I found this article very interesting...please read!

Do you remember the blockbuster hit film The Matrix that was released in 1999? You may not know this, but it has deep spiritual implications concerning the times we are living in and Bible prophecy.

It tells a story of how these "agents" are trying to turn us into machines. We are closer then ever before for this to become a reality when they cause us to receive an implantable microchip in our body during a time when physical money will be no more.

You may have seen on NBC news concerning the implantable RFID microchip that some people are getting put in their hand to make purchases, but did you know this microchip matches perfectly with prophecy in the Bible?

"He (the false prophet who deceives many by his miracles) causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name...

You also may have heard of the legendary number "666" that people have been speculating for possibly thousands of years on what it actually means. This article shares something I haven't seen before, and I don't think there could be any better explanation for what it means to calculate 666. This is no hoax. Very fascinating stuff!

...Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666" (Revelation 13:16-18 NKJV).

To see all the details showing why the Bible foretold of all these things, check out this article!

    Article: https://biblewoke.com/rfid-mark-of-the-beast-666-revealed

GOD is sending out His end time warning:

"Then a third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, 'If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark on his forehead or on his hand, he himself shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of His indignation. He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever; and they have no rest day or night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name'" (Revelation 14:9-11).

In the Islamic religion they have man called the Mahdi who is known as their messiah of whom they are waiting to take the stage. There are many testimonies from people online who believe this man will be Barack Obama who is to be the biblical Antichrist based off dreams they have received. I myself have had strange dreams about him like no other person. So much so that I decided to share this information.

He came on stage claiming to be a Christian with no affiliation to the Muslim faith...

"In our lives, Michelle and I have been strengthened by our Christian faith. But there have been times where my faith has been questioned - by people who don't know me - or they've said that I adhere to a different religion, as if that were somehow a bad thing," – Barack Obama

...but was later revealed by his own family members that he indeed is a devout Muslim.

So what's in the name? The meaning of someones name can say a lot about a person. God throughout history has given names to people that have a specific meaning tied to their lives. How about the name Barack Obama? Let us take a look at what may be hiding beneath the surface...

"And He (Jesus) said to them (His disciples), 'I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven'" (Luke 10:18).

In the Hebrew language we can uncover the meaning behind the name Barack Obama.

Barack, also transliterated as Baraq, in Hebrew is: lightning

    baraq – Biblical definition:

From Strongs H1299; lightning; by analogy a gleam; concretely a flashing sword: – bright, glitter (-ing, sword), lightning. (Strongs Hebrew word H1300 baraq baw-rawk')

Barak 'O'bamah, The use of bamah is used to refer to the "heights" of Heaven.

    bamah – Biblical definition:

From an unused root (meaning to be high); an elevation: – height, high place, wave. (Strongs Hebrew word H1116 bamah baw-maw')

The day following the election of Barack Obama (11/04/08), the winning pick 3 lotto numbers in Illinois (Obama's home state) for 11/5/08 were 666.

Obama was a U.S. senator for Illinois, and his zip code was 60606.

Seek Jesus while He may be found...repent, confess and forsake your sins and trust in the savior! Jesus says we must be born again by His Holy Spirit to enter the kingdom of God...God bless!
