Neighbor of Alabama gunman: "He made it very clear...that any animals or people that came onto his property would be killed"

As the nation's most recent gun-related incident developed in Alabama, on Wednesday "Piers Morgan Tonight" invited neighbors of the suspected gunman to supply their first-hand perspective on the ways in which he reportedly had been leading his life.

"He was just strange," said Casper McNich, in an exclusive live interview. "After he moved on the property, then he put up a barbed-wire fence, started cutting down all the trees, like he had a clear view of anything so he wasn't attacked or something. So really, I pretty much avoided him."

Ronda Wilbur, meanwhile, revealed that the man had a history of violence with animals:

"He made it very clear as soon as he moved in that any animals or people that came onto his property would be killed," she said of the man she knows as Jimmy Lee Dykes. "One of my dogs went across the middle part of the road, and it was a 125 pound dog, he took a led pipe and he beat the dog until the dog was so badly injured that it died several days later."

Watch the clip, and listen to the interview, as Wilbur and McNich share further patterns of behavior surrounding the man who abducted a six-year-old from a school bus, and took him inside his homemade bunker.

That guy should have a gun ban on him. Gun control debate is moot. Case law applies. To summarize the supreme court ruling yes you have a right to own a gum but the government has the right to regulate it. Ever ask yourself why the 1776 argument is used instead of the civil war? NRA doesn't want a race issue and they lost that war. Its an issue of strong centralized government or personal rights. We've been heading towards strong centralized gov snce the civil war. What are the stats of where most guns are? Not in highly populated metropolitan areas? There's a lot of points I can make if I had more time. Basically the arguments coming from groups like the NRA are logical facilities. They will reflect, use red herons, and reduction ad absurdum's. Thief main argument is to say a gun is fun. Problem guns are really easy to use but the consequence is easily extremely bad, death. I want a gold statue of myself, doesn't mean I will get it.

WELCOME SOMETHING OTHER THAN GUN ISSUES ALL THE TIME. Miss Larry King. He was such a good host, onewould not be able to know which side of an issue he was on. This seems what news should be instead of the host's opinion thrown in our face. Mr. Piers: I would ask you to check out the you tube clips called Think Outside the TV about the Sandy Hook school. I think it would interest you. Hopefully, you could explain why homeland security was having a child terror test twenty minutes away; Why the man went from laughing and visibly got himself into a sad state to talk to the press where he had been laughing one minute before. Why law enforcement says the rifle was left in his car and he was dead inside the school with four handguns? Please respond with an open and thorough explanation of all these questions. Definitely confusing for me. I also believe persons are safer in their homes with guns to protect themselves. My whole life we have been hunters and own guns. Criminals rob persons older or weaker. Guns cause others to respect that home that's known to have protection, and aren't robbed as often.

No Need to speak my view anymore. Thank you so much for the brave statements to the congressional hearings today by Gabby gifford and David Wheeler. SuchEverything taken away from them but yet so much curage and defiance for themselves and tha american people they speak for. Also " Thnk God for the arrogance and inhumane NRA's Mr. laperrier for his continued gutles speachess and rhetoric for thinking the american people are so stupid. Please keep speaking nightly onTV. You NRA members better start defending your honor or your going to be lumped in and consicder represented by Mr. Laperrier. The boulder is running down the mountain and there is no stopping our momentum and deterrmination for gun legislation reform. God Bless America! ( and this is my opinion ) Mr. laperriers arrogance and classless cowardness.

Piers Morgan is not an icon of American political conscience or priority. I believe he should pack up his ideas and catch the next plane back to Britain, and keep his British nose out of our business.

Hi Randolph, that's been said lots, not as politely. I don't think he's going, seems quite determined. How bout some new talking points, here's one. Strangely tragic fact that there was another attack on school children by crazy person on the same day as Sandy Hook. In China Twenty-three students and an elderly villager were injured when a 36-year-old man armed with a kitchen knife burst into the school in Henan province. None of the students were injured seriously and the man was quickly arrested. China has Tough gun laws.
      Any comments on this?

I'll take his pasty white British face over that ugly so called "American" Ted Nut-gent who spews ANTICHRIST hatred, divisiveness and violence... Nutgent's the one they should deport.... hopefully back to hell from when he came...

Since you seem to feel so strongly about it, why don't you go down to the local Sheriffs department and put in an application to wear a badge and gun and do your part ?? No Child has ever carried a gun to our local school here, ever. So, Who are you ? America is a lot bigger than your local city park,, dude.

Why do all the gun lovers seem to think it's still 1776? There's no 1-800-GOT-MILITIA? emergency service number to call.... Last time I looked, the "militia" mentioned in the 2nd amendment is now called the "police" but none of these gun traffickers ... (Oooops!) I mean.... "gun owners".... seems to understand that the 2nd amendment meant "for a well-regulated militia" but they like to re-write history and the amendments themselves.... Biggest hypocrits around.... Why do you think all those "gun shows" are free-for-alls when it comes to gun running/straw deals/men...?????

I am not an American, but upon reading the Declaration of Independence, it seems to me that the Unalienable Rights of Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness should not be trumped by the second amendment right to bear arms in any form. Those 20 children were certainly denied their Inalienable Rights. Are those rights not more important?

make plastic bullets for civilian weapons, regardless the caliber. The law does not forbid that modification on the bullets.

This is the only way I can explain my thoughts on assault weapons. I do think they should be legal. If we ever had a major event in the US such as an earthquake that left millions of people without power, food or water. Wouldn’t your family feel safe if you had the ability to fight off mass people that were going to try to harm you or your family if you had enough supplies to survive? What if we had a government that decided to invoke marshal law and we had no way to defend ourselves against military weapons except if we had them in our home. Hitler would not have been able to kill so many Jews if they had military style weapons in their homes. History repeats itself. It’s the what if that makes us continue to want the right of having weapons for responsible self and family defense. We have the right to bear arms against domestic and foreign threats. Please do not forget about the foreign part of that statement. 9/11 was not that long ago. Gun control did not stop the bombing in Oklahoma City. America has lost values and I do not think any form of gun control will work. We need to focus on values. Teach right and wrong. Please do not compare the US to other countries. America is a melting pot of people unlike any other nation in the world and has to work on bringing values back that can work here. Prohibition in the 1920s only created a way for organized crime to supply people and never stopped anyone who wanted to drink get a drink. They only true ban on guns that would work would be to shut down every manufacture and not allow them to be made in the first place. There are thousands of kids that die from drugs, alcohol each year. What have we done to stop all of those needless deaths? Tobacco kills how many people each year? Why haven we made that outlawed? It is easy to point at one thing to help everyone think we took action. The ban is like putting an eyedropper full of water to put out a forest fire. There has to be a real effort in finding solutions that will work. Banning a few guns is not the answer. Building values in people again is what we really need. It will take a whole generation of effort to make that change count. No one not even the crazy whack jobs called the NRA will talk about the true problems. Everyone is just talking crazy. Everyone work on teaching right and wrong again. Politically correct with respect works. Nothing else. Thank you

Maybe each person should have either a grade kept on their records as free to have a gun . Then we wouldn't be infringing on their privacy rights either. Americans have always had guns. This is how they fought and beat the Native Americans. This and the tribes trusted the people coming here. They had no idea they were here to take all their land, put them in stockades, then move them in winter through blizzards to Oklahoma. Then even later take that land back to give to others. Our family has always had guns for hunting and for protection. I am not afraid of my neighbors having guns. Makes me feel safer that a regular American can protect himself and his family which means I'm better protected. Not sure we need a data base. Could have a tendency to infringe on our rights if in the future the government needed guns to protect America that they may need ours. Which isn't fair to the citizen. We are having all races of people moving and buying into America. We have India, Mexican,, Vietnamese, Chinese all moving heavily into America. Before we had our standard American way of life. We are developing new cultures affecting each others races. And gangs caused by absent fathers leaving their kids for another woman. The child will have pent up anger, and without two parents to help as his support system, the youngster is alone and defenseless. He finds a new father on the streets as the gang leader and his support system. Only the gang leader doesn't care about the child. He frames him into
doing something and now has complete charge of him. Poor kid....never had a chance. Has to follow the rules of the gang or get beat up for it. Our government needs to get involved in these gangs to help those kids. Where is our National Guard? Aren't they to protect American people first. Government should offer incentives for people to stay married. Not support a system the way it is now where the women can make a living off welfare by being a single mother. And the more kids the more money. Those kids need their fathers too. Please work to stay together and get into church. And keep clinging to our guns and keep up with the new laws that people are trying to force through without debating and doing what works. Mental illness is a big problem. Our healthcare systems don't take care of those people like we have in the past and can't expect the families to manage them at home.

hummmm so tonight Piers is a gun expert because he has fired three guns. Too bad that he isn't a math expert, accusing the NRA of doing a 360 on its viewpoint of guns in school. If you do a 360, you are heading in the same direction as you were previously. If you do a 180, you reverse direction. Poor Piers, he can't even get the math right.

JB is correct not one gun story on people who's lives were saved by using guns protecting themselves from iintruders or attackers. CCN seems to find those BIG stories, but let a small town news station show broadcasts but mainstream media will not covered over long periods of time.

We have an obligation to do the right thing. To try something to see if it works is not appropriate for this situation. Much study and research needs to be conducted. We need to ask serious questions and find serious answers. What causes a young man like Adam to lose his humanity? Are law abiding citizens doing their part to keep their weapons secure? How are criminals obtaining their guns? We need to find a logical solution to the problem. A five year old who sees his mother stabbed to death will believe that knives are bad and no one should have a knife. I can understand where that five year old is coming from. From a five year old's perspective that would seem logical. The recent tragedies has caused many to have a child like perspective. I encourage you to be sympathetic with the citizens among us who have a simple solution based on an emotion. I also encourage you to continually seek a perspective that is logical and deeper. I fear that the loudest ones in our society tend to have a five year old's perspective and can only cry out a five year old's solution. Fellow citizens and law makers we need to think hard and evaluate our emotions. Let us not be quick to encourage laws that are based on emotion or on a narrow perspective. Let us not lose our freedoms for the sake of false security. If we continue down this path each new law that is passed will only erode at our freedoms. The violence and the problems will still prevail. One day we will look up and no longer be free.
    J. E. Acosta (A citizen of the USA who does not own a gun or have anything sharper than a butter knife but loves his freedom and is sad for the freedoms we have lost.)

Considering joining the NRA or a like organization even though I do not own a gun.

The 2 biggest controversies, it seems, in the USA now are gun control and gays. The people who love guns the most seem also to hate gays the most and there is a rise in violence against gays and lesbians. Maybe gays and lesbians should claim their second amendment rights and start packing guns because it is not safe on the streets for us. If we have to protect ourselves from the Christian Right/NRA/Republican agenda and their lifestyle...we will. It would be our right!!!!!
