READ about Piers Morgan's long career in journalism here.
On the heels of this evening's "Guns Under Fire" town hall from Washington D.C. (airing at 8 p.m.) tonight Piers Morgan welcomes fellow CNN host Anderson Cooper for his insight into the polarizing discussion. Cooper will be moderating the conversation from George Washington University, and after sharing his perspective, Morgan will then open the discussion up to both Kellyanne Conway, and Van Jones, each of whom are regular "Piers Morgan Tonight" guests, analyzing all things political and cultural.
In addition to the gun debate, Thursday's primetime program will address Sunday's upcoming Super Bowl, welcoming new CNN personality Rachel Nichols. Reporting from New Orleans, site of the much-anticipated Ravens vs. 49ers "Har-Bowl," Nichols will join Morgan for a live interview touching upon the most-fascinating football story angles heading into the year's most-watched television event.
Also, as Friday brings about February, and a continuation of the entertainment awards season, Morgan welcomes director David O. Russell, the man behind "Silver Linings Playbook," as well as actress Jennifer Lawrence, who stars alongside Bradley Cooper in the film.
Tune in tonight at 9 as Morgan hosts a show that touches upon emotion and drama, sports and society, all the while debating one of the most divisive issues in America.

No snake = no snake bites
No virus = no flu
No gun = no shooting
It's just that simple...
How 'bout those 49ers, yea!
Snake bites-hig boots. Flu--flu shot. Gun--shoot first !!!!!!!
Hi Nate, I used to own guns when I lived on a farm in Australia. I used them to shoot feral animals. I handed them in when gun laws changed. Sometimes I miss them but it's no big deal. Life goes on. Gun laws have worked well in Australia. There have been lots of lives saved. I feel good that I did the right thing, lives saved makes up for missing my guns.
Dan, I would say you are in the minority when it comes to the views of Australian gun owners. Google Steve Lee's music video "don't take my guns"!
Dan, here's the video. Enjoy 🙂
http://youtu.be/1geyoxeifk0
Hi CR, didn't bother, not interested mate. We are better off without guns in urban areas, in my opinion. If I still lived in the bush I could get one.
If you say so Ros, I mean Dan!
Hey Dave! What a HIPPOCRITE WAYNE LAPEIER IS LYING TO US THAT THE CURRENT GUN LAWS ARENT BEING ENFORCED AND ANATIONAL GUN REGISTRATION DATA BASE ( back ground checks ) dont work or are unnecessary! just recently on 2012-13 TV interviews to us. Wow! Well Wayne Lapierier in 1994 in a congressional hearing for then pres. Clintons assault weapons ban legislation totally reversed the idea saying quote " gun BACK GROUND CHECKS are essential to law enforcement to weed out criminals from obtaining a fire arm and make it safe for america in its quest to own a hand gun! total Hippocrit who thinks we wouldnt remeber and that we are so stupid and gulable to hang on his word and dupe current NRA members and the now American peoples fight to take back our safety for our children!
You like most people misunderstand the intended message about the background checks, they don't currently work because states don't enforce them, states don't keep up their database of mentally ill people, and doctors aren't reporting them to the proper authorities. If these doctors and states kept up with the databases these background checks run against then they would work.
Hey got to start and finish somewhere, dont worry we'll totally overhaul the whole back ground check for everyone, you can be sure of that gpz. Its totally stupid to say somethings dont work so dont bother.
Like You, I've been debating the gun control issue for quite some time now. While I don't watch your show, I have managed to watch many of your interviews on the issue via YouTube. Based upon what I've seen, my opinion of you has gone from ambivalence, to outright distain. At first, it seemed like you were engaging in many of the same tricks employed by many of your media peers by inviting ridiculous examples of the opposing viewpoint, in an effort to bolster your position while simultaneously painting the opposition as a bunch of fanatical extremists. I give you credit for taking on some more credible foes, including Ben Shapiro, Ted Nugent and Newt Gingrich; however, my opinion of you as a genuine journalist is not any better than that of Rush Limbaugh (or worse). Your egregious tactics of asking questions, while talking over your respondents answers is just as ridiculous as breaking for commercials when the discussion isn't going in your favor. Your snide comments and attempts to put words in people's mouths making you look about as credible as Howard Stern. At least Howard doesn't profess to be anything more than entertainment!
I would like to take a moment to answer a question that you continually ask: "Why does the average citizen NEED an AR-15 assault weapon?" Before I answer your question, I will share my experience. I live in CT and have relatives in Newtown, with nieces and nephews that would've been at Sandy Hook, if their parents had not elected to place them in Catholic school. I was qualified on the AR-15 and 9mm handguns while working for a police department and have extensive training in firearms. Despite this, it took me 3 months to get my concealed carry permit in my town AND I was required to take ANOTHER gun safety course! I had to sell a rifle I owned legally in MA for 15 years, because it was banned in CT (CT has had an assault weapons ban for quite some time). After the Colorado shooting, I considered purchasing an FN 5.7 handgun, because it has a 30-round magazine and can penetrate a Kevlar vest (James Holmes was wearing a vest during his rampage). Back to your question:
In addition to the purpose of the 2nd Amendment (Government Tyranny-which you ignorantly scoff-at), I will offer another answer: the same reason why police need them. I feel average citizens should have the same right to weapons as law enforcement and for the same reasons. When bad guys have bullet-proof vests and high-powered weapons, citizens should be able to defend themselves. My question to you is: "Do you feel police need these weapons?" If so, then you've made my argument, because as you know, police cannot protect victims-only victims can protect themselves. If you don't believe police should have access to semi-automatic rifles, then you are an idiot! So let's assume you're not completely stupid and agree that police should have semi-automatic weapons, but civilians should not. I will ask you another question: "Why do police need semi-automatic weapons in the first place?" Back in 1986 many police departments still issued .38 revolvers, and few had semi-automatic rifles. All of that changed with the 1986 Miami FBI shootout, when 2 bank robbers were surrounded by 8 well-trained FBI agents. Of the eight agents, two were killed and another 5 were wounded during a shootout with over 145 bullets fired in a matter of minutes. I want to emphasize that there were only 2 bank robbers. The two could've easily been breaking into houses instead of banks AND they could be wearing bullet-proof vests. So, I submit to you that a high-powered, semi-auto rifle (you can call it an assault weapon, hunting rifle or whatever) is one of the best forms of protection in the world we live in.
One other point that keep trying to make, is by drawing a parallel between fully-automatic weapons (used by the military) and semi-automatic weapons. Your argument is that semi-automatic rifles are essentially capable of the same carnage as fully-automatic one's and therefore, they should likewise be banned. Let me help to clarify the differentiation, because you are clearly ignorant on this point. Fully-automatic weapons are designed for a battlefield environment, where the purpose is to fill every square inch of real-estate between you and an advancing army with bullets. This application isn't suitable in an urban environment where collateral damage can be very likely. That is also why the weapons used by our troops have the ability to select several firing modes, depending on the scenario. Semi-automatic weapons, however, are designed to allow the shooter to accurately control each shot that is fired, which is much more appropriate for urban and defensive situations that don't involve an advancing army.
My advice to you, despite how well your ratings are now, would be to make some attempt at journalism, rather than sensationalism. Obviously, you have an agenda, but your ignorance of the opposing viewpoint, or reluctance to listen to it, is making you appear like, in English terms, a bloody idiot!
I've seen a lot of your stupid posts through here. Again, I say, start getting all the guns from your neighbors tonight. Hurry. Just explain your stupid logic at each house and they will give you all their guns. By the way, the 49's SUCK.
I think I'll just wait until it becomes a felony to own an assault weapon. Then the good (but misguided) neighbors will turn them in on their own.
Seth, I think you should hold your breath until it becomes a felony.
Only sad that the criminals will not hand in their asult weapons, hope it turns out better for your people, but here in South Africa the law obiding public are defenceless against crimanal, with asult weapons( they will always have them, the law and human rights is of no concern to them), because most like myself have handed in our weapons, and now we are sitting ducks, even the police have it difficult combating these outlaws. The result, every day incent children and adults die for a cell phone or R10.00($1). All the best "Boettie".
Hi Rocco, but Rocco aren't you allowed other guns, under licence apart from semi-automatics in South Africa? And I read that the police have said that since strict gun controls came into force in 2004, gun crime in South Africa has fallen by more than 21 percent. Did the new controls cause the drop in gun crime as police claimed?
Hi Dan or Ros, while the South Africans say their gun crime rate has fallen, that depends on whether anyone can actualy believe any of the statistics coming out of that country. A friend of mine was car jacked last week at gun point outside his home in Cape Town.
Reply for cr, and so are you suggesting that we should believe NRA over the police? These stats represent people who are alive instead of dead. Gun control working like its meant to. Anyone with a bit of humanity left would see that as a good thing. Do you see it as a good thing?
I'd believe the NRA before I would believe anything that comes out of Zuma's government!
Hey Dave , you and everyone in the national are going to have to register your gun, even if you sell it privatly The gun will come back to you if you dont. Thanks to the brillance and courage of Gabby gifford and David Wheeler before the congressional hearings yestrday its in the book now for gun reforn. Thank your ignorant leader waynne Lapier for his gutless, arogant promoter of the gun corperations in his night TV interviews trying to defend all members of his beloved NRA.. You True Believer of your gun better distance your selves from lapier!
The corporaes generational pop culture with violence in video games and music. OH every reality TV show is divide and concur, NO Humility, respect for one another. Cant think for them selves and whaling approval of their piers instead of their own self rspect which they have to earn. THE PARENTS ARE THE FIRST AND LAST DEFENSE OF WHAT YOUR KIDS ARE DOING ,WATCHING,ans ACTING TOWARDS THEIR PIERS AND COMMUNITY. Take responcibility for your children and their actions. Educate and for gods sake discipline your children. and help secure their safety with the new gun registration legislation. and oh ya, ASSAULT WEAPONS WILL BE BANNED!
Dave likes to put everyone down with immature rhetoric hiding the fact he has no knowedge or substance to communicate with an individual and have a serious debateon secific issuesconcerning america and its national safety, OH BUt Hes a terrific spell checker and double checks everyones spelling for you, but no back up true facts. VERY ,VERY SAD!
What a HIPPOCRITE WAYNE LAPERIER IS ! IN A !(($ CONGRESSIONAL HEARING FOR BILL CLINTONS GUN PROPOSAL ( that passed) WAYNE LAPERIER SAID " WE NEED GUN BACK GROUND CHECKS TO KEEP GUN OUT OF THE HANDS OF CRIMINALS AND ALLOW GOOD AMERICANS TO OBTAIN A FIRE ARM TO PROTECT THEIR FAMILIES!!!!!! what a totall 180. and a crock of S*^T with his lies. I sure wouldnt want him to speak for every NRA member because that makes you look so gulable and ignorant, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK FOR THE GUN COMPANIES! Keep up the clueless insults and non substance ranting to everyone. You need to watch the news more and put down thse VIDEO GAMES... Keep the spell checking on me, I look for you everyday for insperation!
Rage Shooting Factors
Rage shooting factors are about identifying the cause of rage shootings and massacres to prevent them. Knowing the cause to protect gun rights and freedom. Many who advocate gun control do not know the cause and do not want to know, they simply use rhetoric and stereotypes that are used to hide the cause of these and advocate gun control, a defenseless population.
One of the causes is organized crime acts of terror to advocate gun control, a defenseless population. Organized crime is then used to subjugate the population, hidden forms of dictatorships.
If you value gun rights and freedom please support the Rage Shooting Factors that identifies the causes and using these factors for prevention.
Psychological Harassment Information Association
Wayne Laperier does a 180 in a 1994 congressional gun legislation hearing for Pres. Clintons law Banning all semi-automatic killing machines. Yes Wayne seems to say anything to his members and us americans concern for our safety. Laperier says " WE NEED STRONG BACK GROUND CHECKS for law enforcment to keep guns out of criminals hands and a tool for law enforcment to deny those guns to criminals" What happen wayne why are you telling a lie to us now. Is it for your alligance to the gun manufacturors!
School Safety and Protecting Our Children (see 3. (c)) and 1.
Organized crime is using influence of the mind and abuse to commit these acts of terror to advocate gun control, a defenseless population.
1. Organized crime has identified a vulnerability that they can attack through acts of terror, our children and schools. Do you believe that our children need to be protected from organized crime acts of terror?
2. How will this limit on ammunition clips, 10 bullets, prevent organized crime from targeting schools again to commit acts of terror, and more gun control?
3. a) how long do you think it will be before the mob abuses another citizen, tries to corner him through homelessness, and manipulates him to "hit back at society" through a rage shooting or massacre to advocate gun control?
3. b) how long before the mob targets another citizen, abuses him with energy assault weapons, powerful radar aimed at inflicting deadly cancers through bone marrow damage, cell damage, inflammation, lung scars, etc. and manipulate him into killing another Federal judge and Senator to advocate gun control?
3. c) how long before the mob targets another citizen, convinces him that people are on the Hook in New Jersey following Hurricane Sandy and ignored while they suffer in the cold, and that if he commits a massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary with his brothers license from New Jersey it will make this injustice visible, to advocate gun control?
2nd Amendment
"The reason you find so many of us very reluctant to go down this road is we believe each step down this road leads to the next step and the next step and the next step," said the former Speaker of the House. "We actually think the Second Amendment is central to our liberties, .. "
Piers, I think he's on to the British.
British regimes subjugate the population through organized crime and corruption, charter of rights are gradually weakened similar to this attempt to weaken the 2nd Amendment, charter of rights are easily dismissed in court as citizens are targeted through organized crime, pushed to homelessness or murdered to prevent exposure of wrong doing or international human rights violations, censorship, etc, tyranny .. "let them eat cake" – Marie Antoinette
They are now using energy assault weapons, powerful radar assaults aimed at inflicting deadly cancers from neighboring homes, public places, at their court house to prevent addressing basic human rights violations in the Canadian Criminal Code 672.12 (1)(3), the right to a trial, the freedom of expression, etc. on the population that they want defenseless. .. dictatorship through organized crime hidden from the general population.
"Biden concedes new laws won't end gun massacres"
That is correct, I strongly believe organized crime is committing these massacres through abuse and influence of the mind to advocate gun control, a strategy to weaken the 2nd Amendment and the right to bear arms. They'll keep doing this until the U.S.is gun less like the U.K..
I want to thank you for keeping the gun debate in front of the american public. We so badly need a NATIONAL set of guidelines, rules, background checks. Thank you, thank you! Now for our political representatives to the job that we elected them for.
Seth, are you going to outlaw "knives" too?
No, a shooter can't throw 100 knives a minute at 3000 fps with deadly accuracy that explode on impact.
I think knives are ok.
If a psychopath kills one person a week with a knife for three years... and that’s still OK? just so long as people don’t die all at once?
The real questions, legally speaking, for any kind of new law, for any topic should be:
1. How efficient or effective are existing laws in accomplishing their intended purposes?
2. Are existing laws adequately enforced, or even enforceable?
3. Are adequate resources available to enforce these existing laws?
4. Are any effective punishments or sanctions imposed by the court system upon those who are caught violating the existing laws?
There is no point in passing new "feel good" legislation if a unbiased evaluation of the existing laws demonstrates that they don't work, or are not enforced, or are not adequately funded, or violations are not adequately punished.
This is not rocket science.
Piers Morgan thank you for standing up to the NRA who does not care about people being killed as long as they get more money to gun manufacturers. Why would anyone object to background checks to prevent insane people from getting guns? Only the NRA of course! Now it is time to change the NRA insanity
The answer to the agrieved father as to whether his son's right to life supersedes my right to own an assault weapon – is NO. For two reason: 1) My right to my life is the basis for my right to bear arms that can protect my life. 2. I did not violate his son's right to life and I have no intention of violating anyone's rights. To judge me criminal for what this evil shooter did is a severe injustice to me.
Piers,
Why are we saying the same thing over and over? Your question was not geometry. . .it wassimply put. Does your right to bear arms supercede my right to life? The answer is NO. Even on the most basic and logical understanding you can't have a gun if you are dead.
I am the mother of a 5 year old. Do I have to go through the daily psychological trama of worrying about her going to school everyday. I shouldn't have too. I shouldn't have to bargain with gun owners to spare my daughters life. I shouldn't have to compromise her 5 years because someone wanted to selfishly use a bad excuse for wanting to own guns.
Again. . on the most basic level of understanding there should be a compromise. I'm no more interested in taking away someone's rights, than I am someone taking my daughters smile. I want her to live. I want you to be protected, but I want more for gun owners to recognize they have a significant responsibility to my daughter and other children. Please create another agency (as government loves to do) that can specifically manage the process of gun ownership. This can include registration, background, family assessment, psychological, fingerprinting, and movement (when you move the guns registration moves with you). It is 100% accountability at all cost. If you can get with the program of driving a moving vehicle and not complain, you can respect my daughter's life with being responsible. We have regulations and restriction for that. . .Come on people stop lying and creating a smoke screen. . we need to protect our children. Yes. . I agree with that father. . if there is a choice between your gun and my daughter or my life for that matter. . . WE DESERVE TO LIVE!. Can I live?
You're goofy. Whether I have a gun in my home makes no difference to anybody else and has no effect on your daughter.
I do not agree with people needing assault weapons to defend themselves, I also do not agree with trying to legislate morality. Some people will find a way to murder or kill. The young ones involved in the junior high shooting today, my point where is the child's sense of morality.
Violent crime worse in Britain than in US by MICHAEL CLARKE, Daily Mail

Hi Robert, why do you think this is relevant to the gun debate? Do you know that ' violent crimes ' include a whole lot of different crimes, not just gun crimes. Why (who) posts misleading information?
Who has been posting this misleading information you ask, you have Ros! You've been claiming that the homicide and gun crime rate in Britain has fallen, when British media has been reporting the direct opposite.
Stats compiled by the EU show that the violent crime rate in the UK is not only the highest in the European Union, but is higher than the US, Canada, Australia and even countries like South Africa.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/law-and-order/5712573/UK-is-violent-crime-capital-of-Europe.html
Hi CR. Why are you measuring rates for violent crime which includes all sorts of crimes? How is that relevant to the gun debate? The goal of gun laws is not to remove every single crime but to reduce serious firearm related injuries and deaths by restricting public access to dangerous weapons. If you think about it, if a country has a high violent crime rate but a low firearm related death rate, it's an indicator that the firearm laws are working well and preventing lots of crimes from escalating into life and death situations.
Ros your premise is the fewer guns the fewer crimes and deaths. The UK’s homicide rate, despite its virtual gun ban, is 40% higher than many of its large gun owning Western European neighbors. The Swiss privately own nearly 8 times as many firearms as the British, many of which are automatic assault rifles, and the Germans and French own nearly 5 times as many. Furthermore the Italians and Spanish, two other large gun owning European nations, own significantly more firearms than the British and have per capita homicides rates that are nearly 20% lower.
Why did you just tell me what my own premise was and directly contradict what I had just written was my actual premise? Why do you compare homicide rates? It's gun related deaths that's relevant.
Why do you not include gun related suicide?
Your logic appears flawed.
You know you're own argument is flawed Dan!
Hi cr, again, you are thinking you know what other people think. Your arrogance is showing. You haven't justified why homicide rates or violent crime rates are relevant. My original question regarding why (who) posts misleading information is answered. NRA .
You must be feeling very diffident about your position if you are calling me arrogant. Go and take a good hard look at yourself in the mirror before leveling that claim at me.
As I have told you before, I am not a member of NRA, believe that or not. Furthermore, if you want to believe the stats put out by Zuma's South African government on gun crime, go ahead if you think they are credible, along with the under reporting of the violent crime numbers in Britain that were exposed by all of the British media.
I recently posted a proposal and a song, for gun control, check it out and share feed back.
http://youtu.be/RV6fEMGRt6s
The song sucks. I mean really, really, really, sucks.
Hi David, that is very professional, really excellent. The time is right for it too. It is inspirational because it helps restore my confidence that Americans aren't all like the evil selfish NRA types represented in these blogs and so there is still some hope for us. Music is one of the best ways to get people emotionally involved in this crucial discussion. Congratulations on your future success.
waaaah
This is really, really good!!
I was looking around here for an explanation for why Morgan misled the people the other night by saying that MR Neil Heslin was shouted down by pro gun advocates...This now has been exposed to be untrue, and in fact the video of Mr. Heslin had been edited by MSNBC to make it appear that this had happen..which is now known to be untrue and was just another liberal anti gun rights propaganda stunt...Morgan stated that he had seen the video and was appalled, the question is did Morgan see the original or the edited version of this incident ??...but since the truth is now known I was expecting Morgan to do the right thing and apologize for misleading the people....But then again misleading the people and spinning the facts is what Morgan does....And BTW bans on the semi automatic rifles that only look like assault rifles has already been proven not to work and the ban was a dismal failure and ended in 2004.
Piers please don't give up on gun control.
Most of US media is corrupted by special intress groups.
Well as usual Piers your gun rhetoric just continues and continues. You ask some of the silliest questions and do not have a clue about the difference between what you call an assault weapon and a regular weapon as far as guns go! You are just enticing the next person to try to out do the casualties from the last incident. Ever since they started talking about putting restrictions on these weapons the sales went out of control. All you have done is add more fuel to the fire. What are you going to do when someone shows up in a very densely populated movie theater, mall , school, or what have you with a bunch of homemade explosives? Are you going to shut down the Internet? Because all the persons that mean to do harm are now looking for more bang for the buck and instructions on how to make this stuff are easily accessible and so are the supplies to make them. Pack your bags, go back to England and sip your tea, judging the country that has welcomed you in and enjoy the show because you created even more psychos. With the new manager or boss at CNN, please get him off the air as soon as possible! Can you not see that is continual rant is pushing some of these buttons and he will sit back with glee, because then he will have something new to rant about.
Whenever an American gets angry, depressed, annoyed, disgruntled, furious, jealous, bitter............ he reaches for a gun. You have a gun culture, and I doubt anything will change that. There are so many guns to reach for. It is not normal in Canada to own a gun. I do not know anyone who has one. Here in Canada, farmers have rifles: hunters have rifles. Gang members in the cities have handguns and shoot each other regularly. We watch the same violent movies and play the same violent video games that you do. We have many disturbed and mentally ill people in our country. They usually jump off bridges. The big difference in our countries is that we do not have easy access to guns. Our homes are not full of them. Yes, we have the odd nutcase who kills American style. When it becomes normal for someone to carry a gun, well, you can't go back. So sorry for your country – it could have been a great place. Now the rest of the civilized world is just puzzled. We went to a firing range in Scottsdale and we just couldn't believe it. It didn't seem normal to be so obsessed with guns. Maybe watching hockey players beat each other up satisfies our violent tendencies. Can't unring the bell; there is no answer for you. Sad
I really take exception to your untrue stereotyping of Americans like the stupid remark you said..".Whenever an American gets angry, depressed, annoyed, disgruntled, furious, jealous, bitter............ he reaches for a gun"...This is ridiculous and insulting. And for a country that has fraction of the population as the US it still seems to be an abundance of gun violence from what you stated " Gang members in the cities have handguns and shoot each other regularly" Hey how's all that gun control working out for you up there ?? So my advice would be take a real close look at your own hypocrisy before you start spewing your offensive nonsense. The same thing applies to Morgan..where his homeland of the UK has the most violent crime rate in Europe and the gun violence has doubled there since the their gun bans have went into effect.
What true heros : Gabby Gifford, David Wheeler for putting their foot up the congessional panels' Ass with their true words of pain and resiliance. The survivor of the Virginoa tech shooting on anderson cooper tonight was magnificant commonsense idealism to stop gun attacks way before thay happen with total gun reforn and registration over haveing gun happy people at the schools, in the bathroom ( attendants) , the vallet to be ready to shoot frewill at anything that moves before you even can comprehend and decifer what the Hell is happening and let it register in your head, You can imagine how many innocent bystanders will get shoot> Yes america, Nobody can stop the big boulder runnig down the mountain of justice! We are going to prevail!
You are full of crap.
YOUR SCARED! ITS A DONE DEAL Natioal Registration baby!
smdavison, where the hell did you go to school. you're spelling is atrocious. That means you're spelling sucks. You need to go back to the 1st grade and start over.
Gosh I love talking to you every night. Thanks for the spelling concern which is hardly any defnse or debate from you to every persons responce. Keep up the grate work letting us no you have no true facts and debating skills, But excellant spelling checking ability. Again why dont you enter atrue spelling bee contest, because thats all you got DAVIE! Thats so Sad . Read a newspaper or something!
The NRA is so scared , weak, and continuing to be shallow arrogantand ignorant with their defense of new gun legislation. IF I WERE AN NRA MEMBER I would do anything to distance myself from the word of waynne Lapier and his reckless solutions and words for the members of his NRA and gun corporations ( my opinion, just saying) HES SPEAKING FOR YOU AND WE SEE IT THAT WAY Wonder whats going to happen in the 2016 peoples ELECTION. Were all watching!
I don't think the NRA is scared. They are actually stronger than ever. I heard 100,000 new members this month. Besides that, they have the law on their side. Like it or not, you won't get your way. Move to a different country if you don't like it here.
Yeap, people are buying up guns left and right , BUT1 BUT! The NRA'S MEMBERSHIP is the lowest, weakest EVER in ITS HISTORY, even since the Charlton Heston Era. Go ahead and please check those facts DAVE and get back to me, we'll be waiting1
P.S. You just talked me into sending a 100.00 to the NRA just for the heck of it.
you couldnt send your mom to registor with the seperatist NRA! Do your school homework like a good boy! Good night!
What does that even mean. Are you smoking crack or something.
I got the figures from the liberal news media. Not a friend of anything conservative. You talked me into joining the NRA tomorrow though. Thanks.
Im telling you if people would listen to your advice on natioal safety and respect, their smoking crack, how long you been sober my friend!
Since Dave cant keep up with real cuurent news and debates I'll give him a hint on statistics. In the last 10 YEARS 2.5millon people were red flagged and denied a gun! goolgle it up please ! Got to love and thank Anderson Cooper for his determination along with Piers Morgan on educating and outing the untrue lies being told to the american peopl. And that recent new town hall meeting to debate new gun legislation was spectacular and spot on on all the opinioms of the national gun debate! thank you from the bottom of our hearts1concerns and
His named is spelled "Wayne LaPierre" and the NRA membership has grown close to 500.000 in the last couple of months. And they're fighting for our 2nd amendment rights in spite of all the liberal propaganda lies And you don't what you're talking about.
Hey brasstacs, check out smdavison's spelling. He can't get it right with spell check. How sad is that.
DUDE! pleas look up the membership for the lst 30 years ,even with its glory days of Charlton heston my man, Its membership is in its weakest state ever. You can have millions more join and it is still in its lowest membership ever! Look it up and get back to us. and I sure would let wayne Laparier speak for all members, in fact thei speaking in droves of theor commonsense acknowledgment for smart reform! Look it up The nra is on life support! Sorry1
Sory dave My computer cant keep up with my typing IDIOT! but that speaks volumes for you shallow charecter and stupidity on the true facts , debate and lour life! Thats all you Got Dave! your so small and pathetic!
If america has been watching every news cast for the last week with all the heros speaking of the loss and health , everyone knows the boulder is rolling down the mountain, so let the ney sayers speak what they will, BUT THE NEW GUN LEGISLATION IS COMING VERY FAST!
Why don't you put on your big boy pants and start going house to house and collecting them. If I were you I wouldn't even wait for the laws to pass. Start tonight.
smdavison, brasstace even spelled his name in the post above yours and you still can't spell it right. I feel like I've been picking on a very low I.Q. person. I'm sorry
The NRA , Laperrier, or what evr try HITLER ( my opinion JUST SAYIN )
Hitler was for gun control, you idiot. How do you think he killed so many. You didn't pay a lick of attention in school, did you? JUST SAYIN
Believe me, ive talked to every person in my path that voices their rediculous rhetoric of stupidity for not wanting a nation gun regisrtory! In not a violent person but your not getting out of the issue with me on common sense, and we'll argue our opinion tell your blue in the face . I can give you a factual, logical commonsens answer for everything you think ( usually what you think you desevre personally ) you try to come up with. Get mad, get violent, I prevail,, No joke, how every you want it!

O.K. enough clowning around. So called "assault rifles" which is not a correct term. semi-automatic is, account for 1.5% of the gun crimes in the country according to the FBI. More people were killed with blunt objects that rifles. Nobody will turn them in or register them because they will just be confiscated later once the data base is complete. What else do you want to know.
It isnt fair to america for DAVE to have any KIDS, I bet you still live with mama and are in your late 20's playing video games and surfing the net 24 7 !
Nope. 48. 2 kids, been on my own for 30 years. You're wrong again.
You said you wanted to talk about the issues. Come on, big man.
O.K it dosent make a difference how many people get killed with a semi-automatic weapon. knowone can controll it in society they will only cut down innocent bystanders or them selve. This is not a battle ground. the state will protect you from yourselves of o city or town takeover, you can bet your state national gaurd on that. thes no reason not to have every american registor their gun even on a private sale. The sleazy gun show dealers and dirtbag criminals who guy and resell to other criminals is going to stop, and the new gun legislation will phase out futur new semi-automatic gums and multi mags. there will be a national gun registration. It take time to work. how long did it to finally discover that cigarette kill you, and that bulling in schools is finally being addressed, and yes it will take time for new gun legislation to work, but by god it will and its coming. make any excuse you want1 please bring on any other debate, i'll educate you and listen, Dvae!
Yeah dave, i mean dvae, haa! i am getting sloppy on the typing. Talk the issues big dave! your the man Dave!
smdavison, got tired of waiting last night, went to bed. There are several facts you are overlooking. The murder rate in this country has dropped 50% in the last 20 years. States that do not restrict gun rights have lower crime. States that have right to carry report that .001% of crimes are done by people with a concealed carry license. Do you want to talk about places like Chicago, New York city, and Washington D.C. Gun control has worked real well there. These numbers are provided by the states and federal government. As far as sleazy gun show dealers, I doubt you have ever been to a gun show. You are just regurgitating what you see on the news. Your comment that the state will protect me from myself, what the hell does that mean? The bottom line is this. The law is not an emotional issue. It's just the law. thank God the founding fathers had more sense than you. I do not need the government to issue me my god given rights, it's not their place, and it's not theirs to take away. So, to you or anybody else, stick your registration where the sun don't shine.
I'm with ya Dave. From my dead cold hands!
I was absolutely in a state of shock when I heard the horrible news of what happened in Newtown. My kids wondered if they would find me in a usual after school state of mind or some crazy lady crying all the time. My 15 year old finally had enough and said "Mom, you have to stop watching the television." This said, I have been able to turn the television back on without "loosing it". I hear a whole lot about gun control, video game violence, background checks, second ammendment rights, mental health issues, and assault weapons. What I don't hear is "how can parents or adult role models help?" I am a firm believer in a two parent household when possible. Kids need to have someone home for them when they get home from school. Someone to ask them how the day went, did anything funny happen, what crazy thing happened in the lunch room. I wish every child could have a two parent home, with someone to be there for them everyday. As for violent video games and guns, I have a 15 year old who is an avid Call of Duty gamer. He also has a passion for guns and the utmost respect for them and what they can do. My son can spend a Saturday target shooting with his friend, come home and play violent video games in the basement, then come upstairs and have a tea party with his 4 year old sister!
I watched Anderson Cooper's town hall meeting about gun violence in America yesterday. What a difference between his and Morgan's that I actually could hear both side's arguments. This self imposed genius can learn a thing or two from Anderson.
Anderson approached the issue from various angles, as any sincere journalist seeking real solutions should, including mental illness and violent movies & video games. He actually said “let her finish”, when one of the guests was interrupted by others. What a difference, indeed!!
Interpreting the 2nd amendment, the 2008 supreme court got it wrong:
A well [controlled, according to rule, principle and law] [body of physically fit civilians, eligible by law for military service] [when is] necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear [an instrument of attack] shall not be [exceeded beyond limit].
------------
A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
------------
1. Letting anybody legally possess high capacity assault weapons to do with as they please is not "controlled", it's not "principled".
2. Members of the military and law enforcement have to prove their ability and fitness (mental and physical) to carry these weapons.
3. "When is necessary" is highly subjective.
4. "To keep", it doesn't specify where, when, or for how long. One could accurately argue that they must be kept in an armory, only to be carried in time of a foreign invasion.
4. An instrument of attack could be a knife. There are extremes here, to one extreme you have a "rock" as a weapon, to the other you have a "hydrogen bomb". The 2nd amendment doesn't guarantee the right to possess an AR15 any more than to possess a hydrogen bomb.
Someone could quite accurately argue that the highest level of "arms" the 2nd amendment guarantees is a knife.
5. Infringe, "exceeded beyond limit". It doesn't say shall not be "denied". Or "will be guaranteed". It says "infringed". Which clearly implies within limits.
SPOT ON SETH! And a resonable expectation to register and be trained to use a fire arm to not accidentaly shoot innocent bystanders! Keep watching anderson cooper, hes is very curtious to let everyone give their views and then debate fairly, along with Piers morgan! Thank you Newtowm hall debaters, gabby Gifford and david wheeler ( so curagious and heart felt losse) people need to hear these stories to visualise in theirminds to put theirselves in that situation! CHECK OUT WAYNE LAPERIER"S !(($ CONGRESSIONAL STATEMENT IN CONGRESS SAYING THERES A TOTAL NEED FOR BACK GROUND CHECKC FOR ALL GUNS< TO help law enforcement keep guns out of the hands of criminals!
Smh and Seth, you are nuts. Your current postings, if taken to court could be seen as acts of sedition. Know what I your local laws are before posting your filth.
No need to be angry. Sedition is NOT attempting to change the government by democratic means, which is what is going on here.
Sedition IS the stirring up of rebellion against the government in power, which is not what's going on here. I am PRO-GOVERNMENT, and am trying to change the rulings by democratic means.
Department of Homeland Security is latest to highlight flawed logic in Cuomo`s gun law.
h ttp://www.nysenate.gov/press-release/department-homeland-security-latest-highlight-flawed-logic-cuomo-gun-grab
CR "it evidently only took an unloaded AR-15 to protect a household"
unloaded... Well then there isn't a need for high-capacity magazines is there? Nor is there a need for AR15's in homes. A toy would have had the same effect.
The notion that elementary schools should be war zones, where opponents shoot it out with semi-automatic machine guns is completely insane.
There needs to be an anti-assault weapon proliferation act, that removes high-capacity, rapid fire weapons from our streets.
No civilian weapon needs more than a 6 round capacity.
Take the high capacity magazines away from the criminals first, then you might have a case.
For more than 100 years the 2nd Amendment was interpreted as to NOT guarantee the right of individuals to bear arms. That interpretation was changed, and look where we are today.
The assault weapons ban was lifted, and look where we are today.
America has the highest gun homicide, suicide, and serious gun injury rates of any 1st world country on the globe.
And now even our schools, churches, malls, theaters are subject to mass carnage.
This isn't a debate, this is ridiculous.
wow... are you saying you are smarter than the Justices of the Supreme Court of the United States...?????
Prior supreme court justices saw it as I do.
I'm saying that the interpretation of the 2nd amendment that stood for more than a century better served our country than does the recent changes as evidenced in everyday happenings in America.
Why do you suppose the interpretation was changed?
I think the current US Supreme Court interpreted the intent of the Second Amendment perfectly in accordance with our Founders. Someone posted a very helpful link in a different thread that listed various statements our founders made.
http://www.godseesyou.com/2nd_amendment_quotes.html2
The unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or state government, but, where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of the people" (Tench Coxe, Pennsylvania Gazette, Feb. 20, 1788)
"To preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of people always possess arms, and be taught alike especially when young, how to use them." (Richard Henry Lee, 1788, Initiator of the Declaration of Independence, and member of the first Senate, which passed the Bill of Rights, Walter Bennett, ed., Letters from the Federal Farmer to the Republican, at 21,22,124 (Univ. of Alabama Press,1975)..)
"The best we can hope for concerning the people at large is that they be properly armed." (Alexander Hamilton, The Federalist Papers at 184-8)
"And what country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not warned from time to time that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms....The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants" (Thomas Jefferson in a letter to William S. Smith in 1787. Taken from Jefferson, On Democracy 20, S. Padover ed., 1939)
- Prior supreme court justices saw it as I do. --
Please stop making false statements.
It’s not that the interpretation of the Second Amendment was changed. There were no prior supreme court justices who took on this subject.
McDonald v. Chicago (2010). was the FIRST Supreme Court case in United States history to decide whether the Second Amendment protects an individual right to keep and bear arms for self-defense. (wikipedia)
1787, hmm..... a sword and a single shot musket?
I would be very happy with that.
What do you honestly think the founding fathers would have to say about, Sandy Hook or Aurora? Or their great country leading the 1st world in gun related violence, where 85% of global adolescent gun death is right here in America?
Tedd ""Please stop making false statements.""
Chief Justice Warren E. Burger, who was no liberal, mocked the individual-rights theory of the amendment as “a fraud.”

That’s one justice’s view. That’s why we have nine justices, don’t we? If one justice’s opinion should change what the Supreme Court as a whole has decided, how many more of our laws should be changed?
This social experiment of more guns = more safety doesn't work in America. You see the results everyday on the evening news.
When will the voice of reason finally be heard and taken seriously?
Tedd, what level of arms do you feel citizens should possess?
Personally I feel the same restrictions that apply to an M16 should apply to an AR15, and the like.
Tedd ""The best we can hope for concerning the people at large is that they be properly armed.""
The key word here is "properly'.
btw.... the year is 2013. We have been to the moon and back, and our thoughts are on a network for the world to see.
I guarantee you, if the founding fathers were alive today, in this century their words would be different.
They are probably turning in their graves.
Everyone is taking another look at this issue. You see to remain great, America can't be cemented in the past. We learn from our past and adjust for the present and the future.
"Scalia, one of the high court’s most conservative justices, said on “Fox News Sunday” that the majority opinion in the landmark 2008 case of District of Columbia v. Heller stated the extent of gun ownership “will have to be decided in future cases.”
“We’ll see,” he said.

"Scalia, one of the high court’s most conservative justices, said on “Fox News Sunday” that the majority opinion in the landmark 2008 case of District of Columbia v. Heller stated the extent of gun ownership “will have to be decided in future cases.”
That future case is the McDonald v. Chicago (2010) !!!
Future case(S). This hasn't been decided yet.
It’s been decided for now, until another case actually arises!
I’d follow what the US Supreme Court would decide for now. And that wasn’t really the subject here. (you have a tendency to change the subject when losing the argument.) I was just annoyed by you that you try to self-interpret the intent of the Second Amendment without studying history well and think you know better than the justices do...
First you said the Second Amendment was misinterpreted by the current Supreme Court, now you are saying, why does the intent of the Founding Fathers matter in modern days... You keep changing your arguments, because your logic has no core.
Seth, you cannot guarantee me anything, obviously you don’t know much about history.
Tedd: ""I was just annoyed by you that you try to self-interpret the intent of the Second Amendment without studying history well and think you know better than the justices do..""
uh.... it's my study of history that is the basis of my opinion that the 2nd amendment has been misinterpreted.
Progress requires change, that's what this is about.
Whatever... I’m not wasting my time anymore... People who read these posts can decide for themselves. And it looks like you are not convincing many people here...
People crack me up.
Why shouldn't we control guns?
-Because it's a right. Cain't take my rights away!
I assume that we also have the right to fill our nostrils with cement. But it is harmful. If that gets taken away, these people would probably argue about it.
Sadly, people like Ted Nugent and all neurotics out there will never understand this bible passage:
"if you live by the sword, you will die by the sword."
Like Ted, all people who believe in guns argue that it will protect them from future unknown danger. They all suffer of some kind of advanced delusion or extreme insecurity.
I personally believe that if the world come to a crisis, I promised you I will not stand in doorway waiting to kill some "bad people". My first impulse will be to ask if my neighbor needs help, maybe get together and build ways to get water and food. We will need arms to build and create things, moving towards progress. I can't use a gun as a building tool, it is useless piece of junk.
Bless his heart, Piers needs a real woman...BAD!! Only a deprived man would be as he is.....so sorry Piers....find yourself a REAL woman!! Do it man!
Muy bueno. Me gusta mucho el modo en que se expone. Un abrazo!
