Dick Morris on being let go by FOX: "I was wrong, and I was wrong at the top of my lungs"
One day removed from formally parting ways with Fox News, and on the heels of a historically poor prediction prior to the 2012 Presidential Election, on Wednesday evening "Piers Morgan Tonight" welcomed Dick Morris for a live, face to face, interview.
In early November, the widely recognizable political pundit proudly claimed that Republican candidate Mitt Romney would not only defeat Barack Obama, but that he would do so in a landslide. Tonight the 64-year-old discussed the circumstances surrounding his recent firing, and any correlation between his grossly inaccurate forecasting.
"I had a wonderful talk with Roger Ailes [president of Fox News Channel] - who I really respect - a week ago. And he said in this business, you're up, you're down. Nothing is final or fatal," revealed the guest.
"Why are you down now," asked the "Piers Morgan Tonight" host.
"Because I was wrong, and I was wrong at the top of my lungs," Morris admittedly honestly.
Asked by Piers Morgan if he resented the way he was let go by the network, the guest took the high road:
"FOX has given me an opportunity of a lifetime: 15 years, 3,000 interviews. And at some point, a great marriage has to come to an end," he joked. "The divorce isn't final, but I am seeing other people."
Looking back at the election, Morris refused to offer judgment as to whether or not his now-former network played a role in the outcome. However, he did cover one example of where the GOP went wrong:
"I believe that the Republicans were horribly hurt among women by the crazy extremists who said that rape won't make you pregnant and it's an act of God."

Piers Morgan never gave Dick Morris a chance to either answer a question or finish a sentence. It was so clear he had an agenda. He wanted Morris to bad mouth Fox, to say he was unjustly treated and to parrot Morgan's own preconceptions and prejudices. His "Don't you thinks...." and "but don't you really believe's...." are tedious in the extreme. Morgan should admit that he had NO interest in hearing what Morris had to say. Morris kept saying "That isn't what I said.... " and "don't put words in my mouth", but Morgan did anyway, because he is an arrogant twit.

Poor Piers Morgan. he is so awful at debating and it seems as though the republican party must have hired him to make Democrats look STUPID! He is doing an awful job and his lack of knowledge seems to force him to start nip picking at the little things which has nothing to do with the debate. It is time to see him go. We can not take this anymore. We want to show people the understanding behind the facts and why it works. Not blindly get emotional when you get whipped in each debate and start whining and crying.. Piers, if you need to attempt to keep your opponents mouth shut from fear of knowing you can not debate anything which is going to come out from it, then you should just step down and let an adult handle it..

I've watched O'Reilly and Morgan bot. The difference? Bill always, ALWAYS finishes on a respectable note. Acknowledging the other party and doesn't sink to terms like calling a GUEST 'stupid'. Morgan is very disrespectful, and if he doesn't get the answer he wants he gets upset. Go watch Morgans interview with the guy on gun control. I just have more respect for O'Reilly, even if I don't always agree with him.
FIRST of all, speaking of lack of knowledge, it's "nitpicking" not "nip picking". Second, it's "Justin" not "Jusitn". Third, it's spelled "cannot" not "can not". I find it extremely ironic that someone criticizing a very intelligent journalist like Piers Morgan for being "stupid" is having trouble spelling words that any first grader could spell. This is besides the fact that your style of writing and desperate attempts to convey meaning are just revolting and dumb.

Hey Chase. I'd like to continue your spelling and grammar lesson if that's cool. Ok here we go... Fourth, punctuation like "commas" and "periods" are left inside the end of "quotations." <-– Just like that. See how I did that? You see how first comes the period, and then come the quotations? That may be more like 5th or 6th grade knowledge, and admittedly I'm not sure how far you are on your academic journey. You've got that 1st grade stuff down pat though for sure.
Sir, the point that the gentleman was trying to make came over clear and concise. We aren't running a grammar class or a spelling bee. I also chose to reply to your post as a matter of pure coincidence. I could have responded to any number of the posts about Fox news and Obama's reelection and Piers Morgan and any other unfocused, irrelevant subject. The main point I am making is to read that a numbr of posts talk about voting for Obama because the GOP upset them or came across badly? Am I really to understand that the voters threw the country down the tubes because many were upset and didn't like some of the comments from the GOP? Truth be told Mitt Romney is exactly what this country needed at this point in time. Very similar to how Reagan was elected at the correct point in time as well. Until Obama, this country had a knack at voting in the right guy at the right time. Kennedy, Nixon, Reagan, Clinton, Bush/Cheney (9/11) and Romney would have been what the country needed. A Solid business mind/CEO type. Very similar to NY;s Mayor Bloomberg. CEO type who knows how to manage finances and cut taxes and still maintain a surplus for use during rainy days. NYC, came out smelling like roses financially after thecrisis, thanks only to the leadership of Bloomberg. You need to elect the right person at the right time. The only issue the whole news channel is about as open honest and trustworthy as a drunk idiot who only knows the words for more booze: the favorite brands on fox are: deception, dishonesty, misinformation, and lack of logic. What do ratings have to do with the validity of a news organization. I'm sure the ratings for the Kardashians are high as well, but does that mean that it has real value? Do a little background checking into the least educated states and how they voted. That should pretty much tell you the story of the demographic that Fox news is pulling in, the ignorant and uneducated. No well-respected journalist worth his salt would work for that "news" organization. If you want to get news, then you have to pull from multiple sources to develop an unbiased opinion. Basically what I'm saying is you have a long way to go.
I haven't watched Piers Morgan since the first time he was on his show because of his arrogance and annoying disposition. I tried watching again last night because I was curious to see Dick Morris and what he had to say. It was painful to watch and I shut it off in 5 minutes. Piers still doesn't allow his guest to speak, to have an opinion if it is not in agreement with his own. It is time to get rid of Piers. If his contract is up give the loud mouth the boot. You are losing more and more viewers every day.

Oreilly is one of the rudest, most arrogant "journalists" out there. How can you bash Morgan using that same argument. I'll tell you exactly why. You only see news as objective journalism when it coincides with your core beliefs. Morgan doesn't agree with your point of view and so you shut him off and completely disregard his argument due to your convictions. Ignorance is bliss, or at least I've heard. Maybe you can shed a little light on that for me 🙂
Morris nailed it – nobody expected 8 million republlicans not to vote – I think the Mormon factor played a bigger role than we think – that's a shame. because Romney was probably the most qualified person in America to get this country back on track. FINALLY! The conservative base is dwindling, while liberalism is getting much bigger. Old people are dying out. Young people are starting to vote. The Flynn effect (meaning younger people are on average smarter than their elders) is showing. Their decisions are reflecting that. Frankly, it's good that these bigoted people are going extinct. These simpletons have caused A LOT of wars, hate, and discrimination. The rest of the world laughs at us. I see a very bright future full of higher IQ’s, tolerance and love.

According to Oxford Dictionary, “then” also means “therefore” or “in that case”, so I think Lone is using the word in that term.

Too bad Morgan didn't take lessons from Larry King. I never missed his show because he knew how to interview people, not try to force his opinions on them but let them express their own – which is why he had them on his show to begin with. CNN is not a news channel and never was, CNN is a voice for the far left. Funny thing is that Fox ratings have taken a little hit lately but they're ratings are still number 1 among cable news networks, way above and beyond the floundering CNN's ratings which are consistently at the bottom. I think we all realize by now that Dick Morris is really a double agent sent in by the Clintons to make the Republican party look bad. This is evidenced by the fact that he has caused way more damage after joining the Republican part vs when he was a Democrat.

I will take CNN any day. Faux (fox) News is nothing more than a right wing propaganda machine. I refuse to watch it for that reason. More over, all of my FM stations in the house are tuned to NPR but I might listen to it for maybe 30 min. every other day. Our TV's are generally not on any news station until noon and again after dinner. I cannot believe that people really have Faux News on all day long. I guess that's what it takes to be brain washed. There are many more things to do in life than to watch that junk. Faux may say they are "fair and balanced" but, they are far fom it.
Fox News is blatantly biased to the right whereas MSNBC is blatantly biased to the left. CNN is is more disingenuous. CNN pretends to be objective, but anyone with half a brain can find clear evidence on almost every program of left leaning bias. From my observation the only exception might be the Out Front segment with Erin Burnett.
We live in a new hyper reactive society that does little to make the world better. We argue incessantly with very little progress. All the while the earth dies quicker, the rich build taller walls pretending they are happier and smarter, kids souls die before knowing and everyone smiles thru their hedonism.
This guy is like all FOX talking heads. They confuse opinion with fact and when they make predictions it is solely based on what they WANTS to happen ratehr than on what they actually think will happen.
Fox, MSNBC, CNN and all other networks are in business to make money. They determine the demographic they want to appeal to and push the positions that demographic wants to hear. I have little regard for their ability or desire to inform and educate the public. There is a reason for the first amendment and a sort of grand bargain. We allow networks to say what they want to say with little restriction because we want an informed populace. I do not feel that any network lives up to their end of the deal.
Luke, I agree with you that all networks are in business to make money and they taper their news/opinion programs to accomplish that end. However, all networks also have stakeholders whose desire it is to advance a particular ideological agenda and their hiring practices reflect that. CNN wants to be perceived as a an objective news network, just as CBS, NBC, and ABC desire. But none of those newscasts are objective in any measurable way. By choosing what they feel is important to cover by the people they have chosen to hire, and by not covering news they wish to ignore they reveal a left leaning bias. There's nothing necessarily wrong with that. It is simply a fact that has been substantiated by numerous studies. So, if we are to be adequately informed we should not take the position that we will not listen to FOX or MSNBC simply because we disagree with their ideological bias. In fact, taking that position reveals our own intolerance and our own inflexibility.
As much as I want to listen to Fox (FAUX) news, it's hard when they never report anything positive about the president. Even msnbc would do a positive story own Bush. Sean, Bill and all the others at Fox, are arrogant and completely bias!
