READ about Piers Morgan's long career in journalism here.
As new details emerge in the case surrounding Oscar Pistorius and the shooting death of his girlfriend, South African model Reeva Steenkamp, this evening "Piers Morgan Tonight" revisits a 2012 interview the host conducted with the man dubbed "Blade Runner."
Months prior to being wrapped up in a scandal that has left the Olympian charged with murder, Pistorius sat down with Piers Morgan in studio for an honest and engaging interview.
Having gained worldwide attention as the first Paralympian to compete in the able-bodied Olympics, the man who had both his legs amputated below the knees as a toddler shared his thoughts on being viewed as a role model:
"I think it's a massive blessing," he said. "And, obviously, being an international sportsman, there's a lot of responsibility that comes with that."
As part of a conversation that today feels fairly ironic, the 26-year-old spoke about dealing with his disability, and helping to teach and inspire the next generation:
"I see a child and he's staring at my prosthetic legs, often the parent turns the kid away," observed Pistorius. "And they develop a mentality of kind of shying away from disability and not being educated about it. And I think that's what creates the difficulty in society."
Pistorius also spoke about his attitude towards competition, which he credits to his family:
"Sport is not about being the best, but it's about giving your best," said Pistorius, quoting his mother. "Losing isn't the one that gets involved and comes last, it's the person that doesn't get involved in the first place."
Watch the clip and listen to the interview, then tune in this evening at 9 as guest host Ashleigh Banfield revisits various portions of the "Piers Morgan Interview" conducted long before a fateful shooting which left Steenkamp dead, and Pistorius with a very uncertain future.

Piers needs to leave our country. Piers you are not a citizen and should keep your über-liberal thoughts to yourself. Please do the right thing and leave. If you prefer the gun control policies of Europe then go back!
Gun safety in the US is a joke.
There are very few suppliers who are behaving responsibly.
All they & the NRA care about is $$$'s.
The NRA has become a domestic terror organisation.
Piers... can you let us know how long the trial (judge only – no jury) lasts in South Africa. Since only one judge akes decision will the blade runner sit in jail for a longgg time or will t be over shortly/
The coverage about Pistorious reminded me once again that such topical news stories are being covered to death. Why is it necessary to go on incessantly about a specific event day after day, hour after hour. Not only do we need to put up with it on one program but on each program even if they simply follow one another. There are plenty of things going on around the world that are ripe for coverage but get short shrift. Please, let's have some variety!
Greetings!
