Exclusive Tonight: Reeva Steenkamp's cousin on her life, and death

Tonight, Reeva Steenkamp's cousin, Kim Martin, sits down exclusively with Piers Morgan to remember and honor Steenkamp's life as well as try to put together the pieces of her death.

Oscar Pistorius' lawyer read out the athlete's affidavit in court Tuesday, explaining Pistorius thought Steenkamp was an intruder when he heard noises in the toilet room. The host asks Martin if she thought this version of events was plausible.

"That is what, in my heart, I hope and wish is the truth," Martin begins. "Because I would not like to think my cousin suffered. I don't want to think that she was scared or that she was frightened or that she was fearful for her life. I don't want to think that."

Steenkamp will wait for judgement from the court because "at the end of the day we'll find out the truth," she says. "But I believe that Reeva's life, and her death, is not in vain."

Pistorius appeared in court Wednesday as the defense and prosecution laid out their cases. The judge adjourned the hearing without making a decision if Pistorius should be granted bail. A decision is expected to be made tomorrow when the hearing resumes at 11 a.m. local time.

Tune in this evening at 9 to hear Kim Martin remember her cousin's life and the career that was only just beginning.

Why do you call a murder trial a sensational thing? Furthermore, since you don't care a damn about words, you are in America. Why follow something somewhere else?

Piers: what I cannot understand is that there is no mention or questions about her presumed yelling, screaming or whatever and thereby alerting him to his mistake. If she was not locked in the bathroom to protect herself, why would she remain silent while he was supposedly attempting to batter down the door with a cricket bat? Of course she would yell, call scream at him. Even more fundamentally, was she in the habit of locking the WC door–what sort of relationship did they have?

      The Guardian:

Roux piled on the pressure on Botha after he told the court that one of his witnesses heard a fight – "two people talking loudly at each other" – between 2am and 3am on 14 February.

Questioned by Roux, he conceded the witness had not identified the voices as belonging to Pistorius and Steenkamp – and lived 600 metres away in a gated community. There was a collective murmur from Pistorius's family. Botha later changed his estimate to 300 metres when questioned by the prosecution.

Regarding the locked door: I also do that. It's a habit.

I really have no clue on any of this story accept what I have seen on CNN. If Pistorius is guilty here is one possible scenario how it wall went down. I just hope it’s not true.

Pistorius was already somewhat whacked out from shooting up steroids. Reeva told him she will not be spending any time with someone that shoots up steroids and that he will not go very far in life doing that. She told him he will end up being just another Lance Armstrong. He told her he has gone farther in life with no legs then she will ever go and that she better keep her mouth shut about his steroids. Fearing the heat of their argument, she said, we will see how far you get without these and grabbed his blades and locked herself into the bathroom. He went ballistic over that and the possibility of people finding out about his steroid usage so he shot through door thinking he would scare her out but instead killed her, or just intentionally killed her.

Once he realized she wasn't moving or talking he beat the door down because he wanted to get his blades back and cover up that motive. He did not call 911 because he hadn't formalized his story and needed more time. Then put his blades on took her out of the bathroom and started making up the cover up story as he moved forward.

Again, for all involved, I hope this is not what happened.

If Oscar's explanation is true, then he used his gun completely irresponsibly.
He should still get up to 8 years for manslaughter.
An example has to be set; act with more caution when you believe there is an intruder in your house.
Alternatively, get a non lethal weapon

    Dear CNN:

I can't believe I have to point this out but there's no "e" in judgment.

    the sandyhook killing
I do not mean to sound heartless but, I had to put my dog of 12 years down in august, and when I go to talk about him and that day. I can’t seem to have tears not come to my eyes, and its hard for me to talk about it. So how does a mother that just lost her child in Dec, and now in Feb, just get on a show and talk so about this, with a smile and a joke. I wonder what is wrong with these people, and they are all like this. Its just odd the whole why they are acting is odd. The father that is so in to his pain, but so much so its more like and act. How does she do this? My mother that lost a child took months to get out of bed and faces things with so much support. Does any one thing this is odd how they are acting too?

    Hey Pierce-

I watched tonight and was horrified as you and every other Olympic drooling male chauvinist can't fathom how he may have been violent. He claims he screamed at the intruder and his GF also. Was his screams just whispers? I mean unless he lives in a castle or a home with sound proof rooms, what person wouldn't call back "Hey it's me in the bathroom you knucklehead"? His story doesn't add up. Blood on the cricket bat? Umm how? As a past vitamin sales rep, what herb do you use a syringe for? None that I ever heard of. He could have been smashed on booze, high on dope, or roid rage is NO excuse! Let's all start standing UP for women and "protecting" them.

How can Dershowitz be so ignorant to say that SA Judges are political and support the ANC. Does he not know of the battle being waged by civil society to protect the Legal fraternity from impending legistalion. The courts are the ANC's nightmare Furthermore to say that the judges because they are ANC will favour Pistorious is also idiotic as being white middle class and Afrikaans is three strikes against him. When Piers said D

I believe Oscars version of the events,I think that its time we had the "gun control" conversation in SA. he was trying to protect her and he ended up killing her, is it worth having a gun if you will end up losing your loved one? this is not the first time someone accidentally kill his loved for fear of intruders, the reality is: the crime rate is high in mzansi, we are not safe, even in our own homes

If there were reports of domestic violence before and the police dd nothing to protect her, then the minister of police (or the commissioner) should face negligent homicide charges.

This tragedy of Reever and Oscar just highlights the very real issues and paranoia many citizens in South Africa feel everyday all day. we just have to read blogs like "censorbugbear" google it. or just read genocidewatch. the world would be a better place without guns.

Really? a friend of mine just killed a Robbery with a bread knife stabbed him twice in the heart, what a bloody mess now the poor guy is now in therapy, a gun would have been cleaner. The poor robber who had a gun did the flip flop for an hour before he left this cruel world ......A gum would have been less cruel, all you have to do is pull the trigger and the thing in front of you would disappear! and no messy blood all over your self! have to realize Don we live in a real world there are people out there partners with Satan, and they will do almost anything to take you away from your love ones!

I could not believe that CNN devoted blade runner's case on its prime time show and had Darshwolz to discuss this case.
This happened miles away in different country which has its own court system. Let's just leave it as a tragedy event
and have S. Africa handle this. Does it really matter what you, morgan or Darshwilz think? CNN has become such a
    pathetic 'news' channel.

What did she do behind a door to put such fear! with a man with loaded gun, how did figure out where she was to put two shots right on her head and to two more for good measure. Did she say anything before he shot thru the door?
