Clips From Last Night: Travyon Martin's parents mark one year since their son's death; Catholic priests respond to new reports of church scandal

As Tuesday marks one year since the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, the unarmed 17-year-old killed by neighborhood watch leader George Zimmerman in Sanford, Fla., "Piers Morgan Tonight" welcomed Martin's mother, Sybrina Fulton, his father, Tracy Martin, and family attorney Benjamin Crump.

Sybrina Fulton shared with host Piers Morgan how she planned to commemorate her son's life and death on Tuesday with "a candlelight ceremony here in New York."

"We also did a benefit dinner to help our foundation, so that we can try to do some of the things that we need to do so that we can make sure that no other parents have to go through what we have gone through in the last year," said Sybrina Fulton.

During the interview, Tracy Martin expressed his anger over "the senseless gun violence that's been happening since our son's tragic loss."

It's time for America to take a look at our gun laws," said Tracy Martin. "Take a look at the people that are purchasing guns, people that they are giving gun licenses to, because it's just too much senseless violence, just overwhelming the homes right now."

"We as parents certainly feel the pain for the children and the parents from Sandy Hook, the parents of the children that are being killed in Chicago, and parents that are dealing with loss all over this country. We certainly empathize with them."

Also on the program, Episcopal priest Fr. Albert Cutié and Jesuit priest Fr. Thomas Reese joined Morgan to discuss the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI amid scandal including the resignation of Britain's top Catholic archbishop and reports in the Italian press about the alleged blackmail of gay priests by male prostitutes in Rome.

In regards to why Pope Benedict submitted his resignation, Cutié surmised, "Many of the things we have been seeing in the church in the last several years and especially coming out of the Vatican have a lot to do with why the pope is stepping down."

"And honestly, we're never going to know 100 percent the reason. I can't judge the pope. Only the pope and god really know why he is stepping down."

Reese in turn, responded to the reports of church scandal noting that "the Italian press is like the blogosphere. Sometimes they get it right. Often they don't get it right."

"They don't have the kind of journalistic particular standards that are recognized and observed in the United States and Canada and Great Britain," explained Reese. "We have to take what is said in the Italian press with a grain of salt."

Watch the clips and listen to the interviews as Reese explains why the the Italian press "is more opera than news reporting."

Most people don't know that the law in Florida requires that George Zimmerman be arrested in order for Benjamoin Crump to bring civil suits. That's why Sybrina Fulton said she will accept any verdict....all they wanted was an arrest so they can cash in on Trayvon's death.

There's so much money at stake that they all have to keep the case alive in the media.

Why don't people want to hear the truth????

He ate skittles (perhaps they were dangerous ones with banned e numbers) & so he must have been a 'gangsta'!
        http://www.nytimes.com/2012/03/29/us/skittles-sales-up-after-trayvon-martin-shooting.html?_r=0

Are dangerous e-numbers an offensive weapon?
If they are then maybe Zim was justified in defending himself against skittles that scared him.
If they aren't then maybe Zim just slaughtered an innocent kid with a sweet tooth.

Are you afraid of banned e-number skittles?
        I'm not.

'Barack Obama's mother was raised by non-practicing Christians; his father was raised a Muslim but was an atheist by the time he had married Obama's mother'
      wiki.answers,com/Q/What_is_the_percentage_of_atheist_in_the_democratic_party

'Around 11% of the US population identify themselves as atheist, however around 21% of Democrat supports identify themselves as atheist so the percentage of Democratic party members is probably between those two numbers.'

Logically, Obama is likely to be an Atheist.

'A Gallup Poll released in 2007[17] indicated that 53% of Americans would refuse to vote for an atheist as president, up from 48% in 1987 and 1999'

      When presented to a Muslim/Christian/Jew...etc , he'll be a Muslim/Christian/Jew....etc.

      That's politics!

Left a bit out here, sorry.
Why do I think Obama's an Atheist?
He's highly educated, uses a lot of deductive reasoning & there are reports of him having a high IQ ~145.
Many people who prefer deductive over inductive arguments tend to be non religious.

Obama is clever. He fooled the Arabs into funding his studies by showing sympathy with their views.
Obama's views will echo whatever the country's are ; as long they make logical sense.
Obama tries to find compromise within his & electorate views.
Obama tries to find compromise within his & Arab views.
He influences the Arabs more than they do him.

The gun saga continues here in Montana, where the legislature wants to mandate open carry on Montana university campuses–against the desires of the Board of Regents, who call this proposal insane. Our own governor is against the measure, having had a family member, a young child, killed in a schoolyard shooting. Check the latest legislative embarrassment here: http://helenair.com/news/legislature/regents-oppose-bill-allowing-guns-at-montana-colleges/article_e32113de-803b-11e2-b1f5-0019bb2963f4.html

The 'Stand your ground' law doesn't apply because Zimmerman gave chase & the 'Castle doctrine' doesn't apply because there was no justification for the shooting (assuming Tray didn't attack before the chase); Trayvon was unarmed & not a substantial threat to anyone.
Trayvon was justified in defending himself against if he did hit Zimmerman ( if Zim were stalking/chasing him); he would've been fighting for his life.
    Questions:
Did Zimmerman announce himself to Trayvon, or just chase & shoot him?
If it happened, when did Tray attack Zim? Before or after the chase?

    Some ideas on GC:
Gun owners should have a license for their gun based on how lethal it is & a license for it's ammo.
The license should reflect the user's experience & behavior with the gun.
The owners should either pay a tax on lethal ammo, or be in a Militia.
No tax on non lethal ammo.
Smartgun purchases & non lethal ammo for all guns should be encouraged.

By 'Militia', I mean similar to a 'Civilian police reserve' (i.e part time police).
You just have to do 1 month (paid) training per annum.

My idea is that for owners of more powerful firearms
(eg. above 30/min theoretical mechanical cyclic rate & 22gr round)
, annual licenses fees would apply for the owner's firearms & ammo.
The more powerful the firearm, the higher the fee.
Also, ammo for powerful weapons will be taxed heavily because this ammo is likely to be required by Law enforcement/Military.
However, if they choose to be part of a ( Part time ) Militia as I have described ; no fees/taxes are applied.

The money generated from those who choose the paid license would go towards the Militia's (paid) training & any costs incurred.

President Bush gave a State of the Union address in 2007 with similar ideas about reserves in it.
