Piers Morgan: "Everywhere I’ve gone in LA ... I’ve had stars come up to me wanting to talk about my guns campaign"

While there may still be a few post-Oscar parties wrapping up, Piers Morgan has already put a bow on his most recent diary entry for the "Daily Mail," in which he shares secrets from a Los Angles life spent atop the red carpet, and behind the velvet rope.

In between headlining CNN's network wide coverage of the Academy Awards, the "Piers Morgan Tonight" host did find time to rub elbows with the industries upper crust, even attending the uber-exclusive party "held at the sumptuous private Beverly Hills home of Hollywood mogul Barry Diller and his legendary designer wife Diane von Furstenberg."

In a piece he called "My best compliment at the Oscars came from Jennifer Lawrence: 'Never mind my dress – love the suit, Piers...,'" Morgan reveals an interaction with "P Diddy" that was less about "Benjamin's," and more about Blackberry's:

"We fist-bumped and shoulder-brushed – I’m working hard on my rap social-interaction skills – and exchanged small talk for a bit, then he caught sight of my spanking new all-black Porsche Design P’9981 BlackBerry and stopped dead in mid-sentence. ‘Whoa… you got a black one?’ ‘Yes – they’ve just come out.’ Diddy slowly extracted the old silver model from his pocket (I had that too, until it got wrecked on a fishing trip in Antigua at Christmas). ‘I can’t believe this,’ he muttered, looking genuinely crushed. ‘Silver’s so last millennium,’ I mocked. Diddy stared at my phone like a hungry five-year-old eyeing a Mars bar. ‘I want that one!’ An hour later, he shouted from across the lawn, ‘I called my assistant – I’m getting a black one tomorrow!’

The following evening, the British television presenter put on his best suit, shined up his shoes, and reported to the most famous rug in all of Hollywood:

"The Oscars red carpet is the greatest showbusiness parade of them all. So I was thrilled when CNN asked me to anchor a live two-hour special," he explained.

Reflecting on the evening, Morgan shared his experience revealing everything from his "MOST AWKWARD MOMENT" (an interview with Tommy Lee Jones) to the evening's "MOST TANTALISING" (Kerry Washington, who nearly lost her dress, uttering "I could have been naked before you.")

But as the title of his diary suggest, one of Morgan's most-memorable moments came from the evening's eventual Best Actress in a Leading Role winner:

"BEST RETURN COMPLIMENT: Jennifer Lawrence, the new Queen of Hollywood: ‘Never mind my dress – love the suit, Piers...’ (For fashionistas, it was a sultry little Dolce tuxedo.)"

However, even amidst all the glamour of this year's signature gala, Morgan couldn't escape the issue that has recently become his calling card. Gun Control:

"Everywhere I’ve gone in LA this weekend, I’ve had stars come up to me wanting to talk about my guns campaign," wrote Morgan. "Dustin Hoffman interrupted our red-carpet interview to suddenly exclaim, ‘By the way, God bless you for what you’re saying about gun control.’"

And when it wasn't "The Graduate," it was Jack Bauer:

"Kiefer Sutherland walked over, shook my hand and said, ‘I just want to say something to you. I’ve been watching all the gun stuff you’ve been doing on CNN and it’s one of the bravest things I’ve seen anyone do on American television for a very long time.' ‘Thanks, Kiefer,’ I replied. ‘Coming from you, that means a lot.’ ‘Just don’t stop,’ he added, firmly. ‘It’s too important. We’re all behind you.’"

The most poignant and power endorsement for Morgan's crusade may be the one that featured his countrywoman singing his praises:

"Finally, Adele told one of my CNN colleagues on air, ‘Tell Piers to keep doing what he’s doing. He knows what I’m talking about.’"

Coincidentally, I've just posed about this, explaining the Second Amendment and pointing out that it doesn't actually protect modern gun rights: "America’s Founding Fathers Offered an Escape from Guns," http://pintsofhistory.com/2013/03/03/the-founding-fathers-offered-an-escape-from-guns/.

      (in British accent)
      Supporters,
I wanted to take a moment to thank all of the regular, every day citizens in this amazing country called the United States of America. A place built on personal freedoms & liberties – by the people, for the people. I do this all for you, my supporters. I promise you, I will not rest until every American is forced to do what they are told by people who know what’s best for them.
I am very humbled to the reactions I am getting for my hard work. The record breaking ratings that have been increasing almost every show are proof that my hard work is paying off. I couldn't have done it without all of you.
Everywhere I go, people come up to me and say:
"Piers, thank you so much for all the information on such an important topic. I never knew any of the things that you have said on your show were true, all the FBI and other government reports show completely opposite facts."
      They also say things like:
"Piers, you say how important it is that America starts reducing gun violence right now. All the FBI reports show that all violent crime in America has been decreasing steadily for years to some of the lowest levels ever. I would've kept believing that if you wouldn't have told me it wasn't true, thank you"
"Piers, I did not know that automatic machine guns were illegal, the law says they are. Thanks to you, Piers, I now know the truth."
"Piers, I've always known people who own guns, they all use them for protecting their families and communities to stop criminals from hurting or killing innocent people. Thanks for informing me that guns are murder machines made for the purpose of killing people, I never would've known the truth if it wasn't for you."
"Piers, everyone says you are a horrible journalist and a horrible person for exploiting victims of tragedies for your own personal gain. I saw your show and I thought the exact same things by the way you won't let experts in reducing violent crime explain information that you have no experience in and instead you cut them off, call them stupid, and change the subject. Then I heard you say you want to save lives so thanks for setting me straight. I appreciate all the good you have done and I wouldn't have heard anyone say you do anything good if you didn't tell me you do."
"Piers, every report almost always show that the parts of the country that have the lowest gun violence and murders are places where citizens have taken personal responsibility for their community by arming themselves and trained. Those reports also show that the parts of the country with the highest gun violence and murders are place that have very tight restrictions on citizens being able to buy guns to protect their families and their communities. If you wouldn't have told me that citizens who can get guns and training for protection is a bad thing, I never would've known."
“Piers, Diane Feinstein was a victim of a violent crime many years ago. She then obtained her permit to carry a gun & carries one so she isn’t a victim again. I always thought being armed and trained were the only things I could do to avoid being a victim. Thanks so much for telling me I was wrong, that it’s better to have no way to fight back. I have only you to thank.”
I could keep going but comments like these are too numerous. I would just again like to thank everybody for their support. Your support is the reason I will never stop my campaign to get rid of your personal freedoms you have in America.
Soon this will be a country where you will have no choice in who you support. You will be forced to support people you don’t want to and you won’t be able to do anything about it. I know you realize that is what is best for because I have told you that it is and that makes it true.

Heard on your program: "34 Americans die daily [by firearm]" to which I respond, every day in America 100 Americans age 16-25 die in vehicle collisions. It's all about perspective, Piers. So, let's get rid of guns and vehicles, too. Save the children! :eyeroll:

there are many things that kill people in a free country that comes along with freedom, some people just cant handle the responsibilities.
the thing about cars i like to bring up is, there is a speed limit, you dont drive around thinking you will be safe because their is a speed limit that everyone will obey. no, you assume that some people will not be obeying it & you keep an awareness of your surroundings & you prepare for the worse.

its the same with guns or any other product that some people might use in a way that could harm others. its a price we must pay for freedom but its always been worth it & not even comparable to the alternative of not being free

"I promise you, I will not rest until every American is forced to do what they are told by people who know what’s best for them." Piers Morgan.

I love your passion and that's what made me a fan of yours from the start. Dare I say, you are my hero journalist.

Yet you are a mortal like the rest of us and to assume someone knows what is best for another baffles me. Now all I can do is take your words at face value for argument sake. And for the sake of this heated topic which will forever be, heated, I feel to argue if guns are good or bad is a none argument. You may as well throw religion and politics into the mix. And certainly what is best for me could change from person to person and no matter how smart or superior one may be, I'd like to think intelligent people have INDIVIDUAL intelligent opinions on what is best.

Back to the passion; the way I see it, one perspective is infallible, guns can lead to death. Yet lets just focus on that for a second. If I replace guns with lets say... time, would that statement still be true? I could replace it with lots of words, war, violence, hate, cancer, recklessness, depression, etc.

May I put it into the context of form and function? The route to all evil isn't money it's guns right? Wrong. How we use things determines the outcome correct? If a super hero used their abilities for good, they are good. So if a police officer used their gun to stop a crime, are they instantly bad because a gun is part of their job? Guns being good or bad is too broad for my taste. Simply in my eyes, guns are a tool and in the hands of good they can be used for many good legitimate reasons, same can go if we went to the other end of the spectrum. At the end of the day the gun can only submit to the will of the hand holding it. It can be used for mass destruction as well as mass protection.

Without guns there wouldn't be a United States of America. There wouldn't be Americans for you to guide and love. No you, no me. With that said, I don't condone guns should be handed out to everyone. To be honest, I won't pretend there is a "silver bullet" solution to this problem.

You are right, the dialogue must continue, ideas must be shared, and we should never lose sight of our selves and of each other. Your passion gives me passion and that's a passionate thing (I may need a smoke). Yet I fear all that goes out the window the moment we enforce an ideal, a perspective, a belief, a preference, or an action. In truth I still look up to you but right now I feel like I'm the one holding out my hand trying to pull up from the quicksand. Please be safe, continue to push for truth, and let me know what you think.

        P.S.

I promise you I will be the last American who refuses to be forced into what is best for him.

Pierce I really don't like guns, but thats my choice. Your upset about the NRA and people choosing to own a gun, yet you are not upset about Planned Parenthood who promotes the killing on innocent children everyday. Many, many more than Sandy Hooks. It seems your passion for life is based on ideology. Do you believe that the children that are aborted daily are less human than those killed in Sandy Hooks? Or less valuable?

Great! Support from the very people who make their money on the silverscreen from glamorising and promoting the very guns you want to ban. These celebrities would garner more support if they all vowed to refrain from violence and using guns in their movies.

who is the lady interviewing Mr Biden?

its funny too because in the interview, Mr Biden said "what magazine is this? Parenting? Ive need heard questions like this from Parenting"
yea Mr Biden, even everyday regular parents are smart enough to figure out that you make no sense when it comes recommending things they can do to reduce gun violence & protect their children...

      PS

I hope Biden doesnt own any guns. My opinion regarding gun control is pretty much in line with the normal & based on the facts . I would say if a person who owns guns & believes this is the way to handle guns safely & responsibly , then they should have the weapons removed from them.
Maybe after some firearms safety training & tests to make sure they retained the information, then maybe let them reapply to have firearms. I dont agree with people having guns if they are going to endanger other people around them by their recklessness.
Otherwise the other option would that Mr Biden have a mental examination, because he just might not be fit enough to handle firearms or pointy objects.

  4. Piers is not a journalist

The problem with the Piers Morgan show is that Piers asks his guests questions and then interrupts them in the middle of their answer. When they are allowed to answer he then call them names (example: stupid) when he doesn't like their answer. Piers continually rephrases his guests answers trying to put words in their mouths that they didn't speek. Piers is not a journalist. He is a tabloid talk show host chasing cheap headlines.

so i guess every murderer who used a gun should be immediately released from prison because no longer they will be any threat to society.
i like how he makes excuses for people like this:
Piers also interviewed Paralympian Osc*r P*stor**s – for his show Piers Morgan Tonight – just three months before he fatally shot his girlfriend, R**va St**nk*mp.

P*stor**s told the presenter off-camera he had anger issues.

Recalling their interview, he says: “He couldn’t have been nicer or more humble. I feel shocked and saddened by what’s happened.

“Off air, he said he knew he had got it all wrong. He was aware he had a temper issue and was trying to stop making that kind of mistake, as he put it.

"He knew he had a slightly combustible personality. That was when I was aware there was another side to him.

“Yet it all comes back to guns – if he hadn’t had access to guns in the house, no one would have got shot dead.”

As I continue to watch and see the whole gun debate, I shake my head. It actually makes me mad, the lack of logic by some of these NRA people. As a Canadian, I understand where you are coming from Piers. However, I think trying to make your point clear will only land on deaf ears, not open ones willing to base their beliefs on truly listening to both sides. I see Mike above is one of these people. I feel sad for the Americans, as so many more people will be gunned down this year because of lack of reason.

i hate when the media focuses in the shooting victims to stop people from thinking about the people who did not become victims & then someone like you becomes a victim:

"Every year hundreds of thousands of Americans use firearms to defend themselves from attackers of one kind or another. Despite the state’s reputation as a frontier state, Colorado’s Democrats are hell-bent on disarming law-abiding citizens and, in particular, women, from being able to defend themselves with a firearm. The latest is state Sen. Evie Hudak who, at a hearing on banning concealed carry on college campuses, told r*pe survivor Amanda Collins that having a gun would not have done her any good. Collins had just shared her story of survival. Democrat Hudak berated her in response.
'I just want to say, statistics are not on your side, even if you had had a gun. You said that you were a martial arts student, I mean person, experience in taekwondo, and yet because this individual was so large and was able to overcome you even with your skills, and chances are that if you had had a gun, then he would have been able to get than from you and possibly use it against you …'

Or she could have shot him, or cornered him and called 911 to get the police to come pick him up. A pistol can be a great equalizer in the face of a threat."

      Susie,
Piers is 1 of the biggest donors to the NRA & you will see what i mean if you look deeper than what you see on the surface.

Piers promotes taxantion without representation on his show almost everyday. Piers has many friends in our government that agree. That terrifies the citizens of the USA into buy more weapons to protect our country from a government that thinks like that.

Piers causes more citizens to buy more guns from gun manufacturers who donote that money to the NRA who use it to fight for the citizen's 2nd Amendment rights.

The NRA is a collection of citizens who do not want their 2nd Amendment right violated. I have a feeling you have no such distain for the ACLU. Why not? It is also a collection of citizens who do not want their 1st Amendment right violated. Both groups are dedicted to representing it's citizen members, what the difference? Lastly, the NRA doesn't manufacture guns for sale!!! Please STAY in Canada!!!

Scare the pilgrims is politics. Guns don't scare people, politics do. The State of Connecticutts Gov. Knows the Colt Firearms Company is in Hartford, Connecticutt. The Colt Manufacturing company was the original owner of Colt that made the M-16 / AR-15 rifle that killed all those kids at Sandy Hook. Colt Firearms company is owned by the UAW LOcal 376..thats United Auto Workers Union ,,they were sold the Colt Manufacturing company after a 50 month labor dispute and the name was changed to Colt Firearms..owner UAW Local 376..so now you have a Union Labor Factory in Connecticutt that makes all these guns that The U.S.A. Public has been told to Hate by Piers Morgan. Colt was made an offer by the Gov. of Mississippi and that was the promise they would be welcomed with open arms,,could forget their Labor Union problems and move to a Workers Right To Work State and enjoy the benefits.. Connecticutts Govenor commented on CNN that was a ridiculous idea..that the Gun Producing Factories in his state had No Fear of his Government and would prosper in Connecticutt as always. Winchester Firearms is also in Connecticutt . I couldn't care less about all this nonsense,, its politics. I'm in Horse Country,,where we race horses and make the Best Bourbon in the World..ask India,,they love MakersMark whiskey...saw it on WKYT-LEX18 Television,,,I don't watch CNN anymore and you shouldn't either

Not because I’d automatically harbor animosity against anyone who are for gun-control, but because anyone who can’t see Piers is only doing it for his ratings and not for a noble cause, and he is not in the least interested in the real facts or solutions, are simply an empty-headed and I don’t want to help them being in the business.

Thank you for taking on the wildly controversial topic of gun control. You have taken a firm, intelligent stance on the subject and are doing a good job of squaring off against some fairly nutty gun rights advocates. Not many people have the courage to address this subject and I appreciate your doing so, despite criticism and possibly some personal risk to yourself. Thanks for bringing a calm, rational approach to an emotional subject.

i hope your joking because piers is saying things that arent true & that makes people more vunerable if they take his advice, like this anti-gun nut:

To Report Illegal Gun Sales Activity call 1-800-ATF-GUNS thats 1-800-283-4867 < The Hot Line to the B.A.T.F not a joke
If You Park Outside A Gun Show And See A Car Trunk To Car Trunk Sale being made with no background check call that Phone Number. Then Write down the Lic. Plates Numbers of the car involved. Now look at your watch and check the time. Now Wait..see how long it takes for the B.A.T.F. to arrive. If they don't. Call CNN and tell them what you did. Do Not Bother Calling The NRA, they already know according to CNN so why waste your time ? Good Luck.

    Piers,
Thanks for keeping the issue of gun control at the forefront. Your doing a great job! It's great to finally see a civilized debate. As a father of young children I find it appalling that our country can't come together to create new laws to protect its people. As an American whose married to a European I find it embarrassing to live in a country that can't even agree to help prohibit mentally ill and criminals attain weapons. it's important that you keep this debate open and civil. It's important that our country hear the voices of the gun activists who believe that no change should be made. Every time I hear one of these people speak it strengthens my belief that new gun regulations need to be made. America needs more people like you keeping this issue open. We cannot distance ourselves from new town, aurora, Columbine, the countless other mass shootings and the everyday killings that happen to our children in the inner cities.

I would like to know Piers if guns were not available to the people committing these crimes. Would they have just said “Well since I can’t shoot to kill. Then I’ll just give up on the whole Idea of killing”? I believe not. They would have found some way to get their 15 minutes in the spot light. Like a bomb that could kill hundreds. Or many other ways that I wont mention as not to give anyone ideas.

Hollywood liberals with a liberal agenda what a surprise...The fact is that those who are the most vocal about gun control and gun bans are the same ones who know the least about guns or the facts...Or they're for gun bans only because of liberal ideology....Pathetic.

The puffed up pompous Piers Morgan again was twisting and distorting the facts about Guns and the NRA...Morgan keeps saying that the NRA wants to sell guns...what an outrages lie...The NRA is not in the gun selling business period..He kept blaming the NRA for backing off the so called universal background checks. The truth is that the Republican senators are backing off this issue because there is a national registration scheme that's attached to this bill..and a national registration could very well lead to confiscation a little fact that both Rather and Morgan left out...This is typical of the arrogant sleazy Morgan to only use half truths to support his agenda...probably a little dirty trick he learned from his seedy background working in tabloids all those years...Morgan keeps ranting about gun control with his twisted and distorted half truths and all out lies only for ratings and nothing else and should not be taken serious by anyone..Morgan has a pocked marked track record of distorting the truth on various issues, and was once fired for editing photos to make British soldiers look like they were abusing Iraqi prisoners.

CNN should dump this fraud and Morgan should go back to the UK with his lies.

Guns are not for a civilised man. They were invented to protect oneself from wild animals in the dark ages. There are no more animals to shoot. Now they are weapons of war. Protection of citizens is the job of the government. If it cannot, it should not be there. Guns do not prtect. Every gun owner is a probable murderer or a terrorist.

The Supreme Court disagrees with you. In the cases of District of Columbia v. Heller (2008) and McDonald v. Chicago (2010), it has ruled that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense.

I think many gun owners in America will have a similar response to what our proud military leaders would say, if other countries told them to indiscriminately disarm the military of this country...

O-V-E-R–O-U-R–D-E-A-D-B-O-D-I-E-S.... AND WE MEAN IT LITERALLY!

If the government really tries to disarm us, there will be a civil war...

The government telling the law abiding gun owners not to carry a gun is similar to them telling all of us not to go outside because there are too many thefts going on and they simply can’t tell who the thieves are... if no one goes outside, there would be no thefts...

Politicians, remember, we hired you. Do your job, catch the bad guys and protect our freedoms! That’s what we pay your salaries for!!

    (in British accent)
    Howdy supporters!

I wanted take some time out from all the celebrity gun experts who have been commending me for my brave work that I have been doing in making everybody aware of the information I’ve made up in my head that has no factual basis. I wanted to thank you again for believing whatever I tell you and for not researching history to find out what I have been telling you is hogwash.

Here are some of my favorite quotes from some stupid, stupid men. I hope you all enjoy laughing at their stupidity as much as I do.

“A free people ought not only to be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government.”
    – George Washington
“The Const¡tution shall never be construed to authorize Congress to prevent the people of the United States, who are peaceable citizens, from keeping their own arms.”
    –Samuel Adams
“To disarm the people is the best and most effective way to enslave them.”
    – George Mason
“The best we can hope for concerning the people at large is that they be properly armed.”
    –Alexander Hamilton
“Are we at last brought to such an humiliating and debasing degradation that we cannot be trusted with arms for our own defense? Where is the difference between having our arms under our own possession and under our own direction, and having them under the management of Congress? If our defense be the real object of having those arms, in whose hands can they be trusted with more propriety, or equal safety to us, as in our own hands?”
    – Patrick Henry
“Arms discourage and keep the invader and plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property… Horrid mischief would ensue were the law-abiding deprived of the use of them.”
    –Thomas Paine
“The right of the people to keep and bear…arms shall not be infringed. A well-regulated militia, composed of the people, trained to arms, is the best and most natural defense of a free country…”
    –James Madison
“(The Const¡tution preserves) the advantage of being armed which Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation…(where) the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms.”
    –James Madison.
“If the representatives of the people betray their const¡tuents, there is then no recourse left but in the exertion of that original right of self-defense which is paramount to all positive forms of government…”
    – Alexander Hamilton
“Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect everyone who approaches that jewel. Unfortunately, nothing will preserve it but downright force. Whenever you give up that force, you are ruined…The great object is that every man be armed. Everyone who is able might have a gun.”
    –Patrick Henry.
“Those who beat their swords into plowshares usually end up plowing for those who didn’t.”
    – Ben Franklin
“[T]he unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or the state governments, but where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of the People.”
    – Tench Coxe

As you know, we don’t have idiots like this in Britain and that’s why it’s the greatest country in the world!

    Cheers!

These are my favorites that Piers Morgan would absolutely hate...

"And what country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not warned from time to time that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms....The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants" - Thomas Jefferson

"Give me Liberty, or Give me Death!" - Patrick Henry

Entered the words "Why The Feds Can't Stop Illegal",..... In The CNN Search Block. Clicked Mouse on Search. Up Came The Words ,,... " 1-10 of 101,894" subjects. According To CNN information Data Bank there are "101,904" Illegal acts that CNN knows about and CNN Knows WHY the Feds Can't Stop these "Illegal" acts. My Own Perception of my personal situation is guided by a pencil on a map drawing a 100 mile circle around my farms location. If NO CRIME has occured today involving guns inside that 100 mile circle..I'm Fine. If Your Circle is 50 Miles around your location,,,Good for You.. thats fine.. For Someone To Draw A Circle 1500 miles in Diameter around there location and think any violent act inside that circle is a threat to them means ????? don't ask me,,,ask CNN. Sometimes my circle is 20 miles in Dia. when I feel like the best thing for me to do is to mind my own damn business. Yours Truly S.T.P.
