"Piers Morgan Live, Rewind": Rudy Giuliani on Margaret Thatcher, Power Panel on Korea, White House rep. reviews Obama's gun plan

Whether you fell asleep early, stayed out too late, or simply want to watch it again, we realize it's not always possible to get your entire "Piers Morgan Live" fix from television. As an answer to this, we offer the below labor of love – "Piers Morgan Live, Rewind" – dedicated and designed to getting you caught up and connected to the conversation.

  • Giuliani remembers Thatcher

As Monday saw the world lose a remarkably polarizing and divisive leader with the passing of Margaret Thatcher, last night "Piers Morgan Live" welcomed Rudy Giuliani and his first-hand perspective on the late British Prime Minister:

"She gave me the one and only 'Margaret Thatcher Medal.' Unfortunately, after she gave me that medal, it was supposed to be a yearly thing, she got very ill and she wasn't able to give another one. So I possess the one and only 'Margaret Thatcher Medal,' of which I'm extraordinarily proud, because she was a hero and a role model for me in many of the things that I did as mayor of New York," noted the former Republican presidential candidate."

  • Korean Chaos: Experts offer perspective

Additionally, Monday evening also saw "Piers Morgan Live" delve into some of the details surrounding "the tension-filled Korean Peninsula," inviting a panel of educated experts to share their insight:

"It's serious, but not in the way people think. I do not believe we are on the cusp or the precipice of an intentional conflict," said Richard Hass, president of the Council on Foreign Affairs. "If a conflict were to happen, I really think it would be more through stumbling."

CNN's Fareed Zakaria, meanwhile, noted another nation he feels has the ability to imapct the entire conflict:

"China is the key. And the reason China is the key is remember that North Korea is one of the most, if not the most isolated country in the world. It trades with no one. China provides it with 50 percent of its food, 80 percent of its fuel. And it could stop doing that."

Author Douglas Brinkley used his platform on the program to better explain how the U.S. might be communicating with a land led by the unpredictable Kim Jong Un:

"I don't know how you negotiate with these people. I'm sure we're doing it on a subterranean level. But we don't want to give any serious credence to a country that is this kind of despicable rogue nation like North Korea is."

  • Gunning for Legislation: Obama, White House call for progress

Meanwhile, as Monday also brought Barack Obama to Hartford, Conn., where he delivered an aggressive address citing the need for stricter gun law, last night Piers Morgan invited Jennifer Palmieri to join the program with additional insight as to the commander in chief's stance on firearms:

"As you know, this is something that the president, as you know, feels really personally deeply about," said the White House Director of Communications. "This is why soon after the shooting [at Sandy Hook Elementary on December 14th,] we took a lot of steps, every step, as a matter of fact, that we could take within the administration to take any sort of action that we could to improve background checks."

As the primetime interview continued, Palmieri detailed specific elements that are pacing the debate on gun control, along with the ways in which each issue is being viewed by the White House:

"Assault weapons ban, we know, is going to be really tough. We think that there should be a vote on it anyway because we do think that should be the law. We think background checks have a very good chance. We think that with such a big majority of Americans supporting it and we do see, we've had some discussions on both sides of the aisle with people over the last couple of weeks, of senators back in our home states. And we think that we feel there's just not any reason in the world why we shouldn't be able to do this unless people want to let politics stand in the way."

But according to most recent CBS and CNN opinion polls the majority of Americans don't support an AR15 ban.

but HE says they do. Why doesn't he ever mention Anders Brevik (norway has a gun ban if I remember correctly?) or that the Swiss HAVE to carry machine guns – he just rambles off country for country, but never takes the puzzle apart a bit. LIKE, eg. cosmopolitism (too many varying races within countries) that there are seriously some races (YIP) who are more akin to violence than other (we KNOW the English – many of them – will give their dogs and cats more affection than humans – they're generally cold towards humans – even your very Queen), so pull the countries apart and then ask why. And Piers do you think it's okay to shoot a rhino poacher? Just checking for no particular reason. You're quite dangerous to the rest of the world where if we don't carry arms, we certainly would die. like here in South Africa, where all of us have friends or family who have died during highjackings, just for any old thing. They steel then shoot just for fun. No law on G-d's earth will get the guns out the hands of thugs – in fact OUR thugs carry AK47's. Why are people called cowards when they don't agree with you. how narcissistic can that be? YOU know full well that the world is getting worse as the economies collapse and now we shoud be unarmed. AND, don't pretend it's just that one gun. YOU want us all unarmed fully.

I'm pleased minimal background checks are possible, but we need to go further, and it's not going to happen until these NRA shill politicians are voted out. Reasonable people need to put reasonable gun restrictions at the top of their priority list, as the gun nuts do. We need to take names and vote these politicians out.

Wrong, what we need to do is vote EVERY progressive out of every office in the land and move the political center back to the original center and away from the far left where it resides today. Take this country back from the perverts and w****s.

I wish I could contact Pier's personally. I wish I could ask him some questions about his "concern" on gun control as he see's it. Sir, you & your other liberal know it all's harp on wanting to take our guns in the name of saving lives. You are spending hours, weeks & months fighting for this "cause". I ask sir, if you are so concerned on saving innocent lives, why don't you fight something that kills more people than guns ever will or has...2 great options for you – Abortion & Drunk Driving. Such a hypocrite. From one corner of your mouth you cry we need to stop the killing & get rid of guns. From the other side you say it is okay to kill in the name of a women's rights & you say nothing about the thousands that are killed each year by drunk driving. You reason that you have a right to take our guns in the name of saving life while you turn a blind eye to those that kill babies each day...

How does a couple million of americans that take these polls make up the majority of americans?

    April 9, 2013 at 9:44 pm | Report abuse | Reply
    • Jerry

The answer to your question is "statistics" which is a valid and well-proven science. If the majority of a few million people answer one way, and if those few million people are a representative balanced sample of the population, then you can extrapolate the result to the entire population. It is not exact, but the margin of error can be well-characterized or well-understood.

Nobody asked me. my opinion doesnt matter anymore? Then why do we vote? Why vote if a poll can make my decision?

      • Scott

Jerry. Polls reflect what the pollsters want it to many times. You can go find certain groups of people, poll them, then try to make it sound like it represents everyone. For a common sense example: If you polled 10,000 people in the mountains of Colorado & asked them if it is too hot, they may say no way. If you go to Florida & ask them that they may say yes, way too hot...then you could publish a poll from just the ones polled in C. & conclude: almost 100% of the 10,000 people we polled said it is not hot.

As a teacher, I was required to have a background check, fingerprints, and at least 4 years of college education. Why is it so terrible to have just a background check for gun owners????? Even the person that cuts my hair needs a license and training oi do so.

    April 9, 2013 at 9:53 pm | Report abuse | Reply
    • scott

Because, unlike you, people that get guns to do harm to people will not use legal means if it comes to that. Simple. Along with your reasoning as well....We are trying to adopt a child. To do so we must:
      Go to superior court
Get both birth parents to agree
Hire a lawyer for all of the paper work
      Get background checks
      Get physicals
Have home study performed where we have to allow a stranger in our home for weeks
      Tons of paperwork
WHY THEN IF YOU WANT TO ABORT (KILL) A CHILD, EVEN IF YOU ARE A TEEN YOU CAN DO IT WITHOUT PARENTS CONSENT, YOU CAN JUST GO TO PLANNED PARENTHOOD & HAVE IT DONE WITH NONE OF THE REQUIREMENTS I HAVE TO SAVE A CHILD??? CAN YOU EXPLAIN THAT??

      April 9, 2013 at 9:58 pm | Report abuse | Reply
    • Scott

My final point there is if I as someone trying to save a child has to go through such ridiculous regulations, why doesn't a person who is thinking about killing an unborn child have to go through way more to kill than to save? It is stupidity & a very sad statement for our country!

For a long time I wasn't opposed to background checks, and still aren't; what Congress is really talking about now is nothing more than enforcing the checks we have in place now. If I bought a weapon off the net, and not having an FFL, the weapon must be shipped to my local dealer, at which time a background check MUST be done before purchase. And gun show dealers are licensed and bonded, checks in most ALL cases MUST be done. The "loopholes" argument is mostly hyperbole.

Where I have trouble is when the extremists (Brady group, Feinstein, others) who really want to ban and confiscate ALL weapons get involved and start pushing, like some states just enacted, for background checks everytime I go to Wal-Mart to buy a box of ammo. And I have trouble when CCL records are blatantly turned over to the DHS like is happening in MO right now, even though it's against our state laws. DHS is beginning to keep records of who's who? Hmmm. That's why I for one have issues with all this, there's more than what the corrupt news media and Hollywood, that's lobbying for this is saying. You're being lied to.

I live in the Houston area and Dan Patrick does not speak for all Texans. Shame on Dan for thinking that he does. I was thoroughly embarrassed at his ignorance and representation of our state. No, we do not need to run around like cowboys carrying guns. My children are both college graduates and I would hate to think they would have attended schools with others who carried guns and fired at their immature discretions. This is insane.

Wyndy, how many drunk driver deaths have you protested or tried to get laws passed to stop it? How many teens & college age idiots that do not know how to drive & kill people with their cars, have you protested or tried to get laws passed to get them off of the streets? They kill WAY more people than people that carry guns & I do not know of any "cowboys" that go around shooting innocent people. Contrary, those people protect you & me from the thugs & murderers that will find all kinds of ways to get guns or whatever their choice of weapon becomes.

Not even, speeding alone kills more people than drinking and driving. Should we regulate cars that cant go over 55 mph? Why do people need cars that can go more than 65 mph? Statistic show more speeding death related accidents happen at night. Should the goverment step in and regulate driving at night? I can go on.. Or how prescription drug related deaths??? Where Is Piers Morgan on that one? Wheres the public out cry?

Scott, CNN should hire you – but you'll just be called a gun nut – or pro life nut – everyone who doesn't agree with their anchors are nuts. They have such a wrong feel about them – years ago I reckon it wasn't like that. It's like they've just grayed out all that's good in this life. Now they'll say I said guns are good. They twist and turn everything and I wonder if increasing ratings due to hatred towards a person is good for such a person (Piers) – i don't hate him but I fear him because if America listens to this man, we're all doomed. But soon as he goes off the gun topic very few will be watching again. It's immotive and sadly he's milking it.

My favorite from the NRA-shill politicians: 'We can't have background checks because it infringes the rights of law abiding citizens. What we need to do is keep criminals from getting guns.' Huh? Hello! Do these politicians think we're not watching and listening to their twisted logic? It's going to be so easy for the democrats to win next time – all they have to do is play these clips. I feel sorry for these politicians, it must be so confusing. In the past all they needed to do was get a good NRA rating. Now they have 90% of the other population looking at them.

How are 90% americans for gun control,When I asked 100 people if they wanted more gun control the answer was NO.
My point is the 100 people I asked they were never polled or was I ,So where did this 90% americans for gun control come from .
