"Piers Morgan Live, Rewind": Summer Sanders on running the Boston Marathon and Bill Bratton on the aftermath of the Bombings

Whether you fell asleep early, stayed out too late, or simply want to watch it again, we realize it's not always possible to get your entire "Piers Morgan Live" fix from television. As an answer to this, we offer the below labor of love – "Piers Morgan Live, Rewind" – dedicated and designed to getting you caught up and connected to the conversation.

  • Summer Sanders on running the Boston Marathon

As part of a special midnight airing of "Piers Morgan Live," that came amidst the chaos and confusion surrounding the bombings at the Boston Marathon, late Monday night former Olympic athlete Summer Sanders spoke with Piers Morgan on the phone.

Among the runners who crossed the finish line before the horrific incident that claimed the lives of three and injured over 100 people, Sanders recalled her feelings earlier in the day at the event:

"It was a magical day, it was a day I’d looked forward to, all of my fellow competitors have looked forward to it 27,400 or so of us," said Sanders. "When you’re a part of something like this you’re family."

"My heart is aching for everyone involved, anyone who was affected by this," continued Sanders about the tragic twin bombings that occured not long after she left the finish line. "My heart is aching for them and thinking of them."

  • Bill Bratton on the aftermath of the Bombings

Former Boston Police Commissioner Bill Bratton also spoke with Morgan on Monday evening and gave his thoughts on the tragic day. "It was truly a horrific day, said Bratton. "And also great heroism, watching [the] National Guard, police resources, some of the runners, emergency people rushing toward the event."

"Having stood on that route many times as a patrolman initially, said Bratton. "And eventually as police commissioner of the city of Boston, was very poignant for me and this brought back many memories of many times that I served at that marathon."

"It was just very, very tragic to watch it all."

Piers, so are all chefs going to be on the watch list now, and will you have to get a background check to buy a pressure cooker? Maybe they could limit the cookers to 1 liter capacity to keep us safe, and ban the multi-liter cookers.

Let's not forget background checks for a box of nails, BB's, galvanized pipe, PVC pipe, other home construction supplies, anything cleaning chemicals, and on and on...

As I watched the incessant TV reruns of the Boston Marathon bombing and heard the story of the Martin Richards family (the 8 year old boy who was killed), I was deeply saddened that such good, caring people could be so damaged.

The theme of much of the news coverage was: how awful that average citizens, who were merely living their lives, should so senselessly be hurt or killed because they happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.

I awakened this morning to recognize that the Boston experience was exactly what was happening in various countries where we use drone attacks.  Out of nowhere and for no reason innocent civilians are killed.  Yet our government is responsible for this policy.

A quick web search brought this up. [web site:  truth-out.org)

Sadly, our "defense" policies condone violence while the citizenry is out of the loop.

This bit of hypocrisy merits some public scrutiny.

The U.S. drone war remains cloaked in secrecy, and as a result, questions swirl around it. Who exactly can be targeted? When can a U.S. citizen be killed?
Another, perhaps less frequently asked question: What happens when innocent civilians are killed in drone strikes?
In February, during his confirmation process, CIA director John Brennan offered an unusually straightforward explanation:  “Where possible, we also work with local governments to gather facts, and, if appropriate, provide condolence payments to families of those killed.”

    Hi Piers,
You've had a number of gun proponents on your show who argue with you that an assault rifle, like the Bushmaster AR 15, is just a cosmetically enhanced rifle, that it's no different than an average hunting rifle.
Yet we know, as the Washington Post reported recently, that Lanza was able to fire 154 bullets in five minutes. An average hunting rifle is not capable of firing that many bullets in that amount of time. They're making a preposterously stupid argument. Please publicize this more. You've been doing a great job in advancing gun control on your show. Please keep it up, This lunacy has to stop.

      Hey,tfgreene.

They'll wriggle off whatever Hook you get 'em on,some even saying he kept the AR-15 in the trunk, while I recall the still from the camera on the door, after he was forbidden entry,of him smashing his way in with the very thing.

Mark Twain said it best. "Diapers and politicans shold be changed often and for the same reason." "Suppose you were an
idiot and a member of Congress; but I repeat myself."

One more thing. I believe that there are numerous travel insurance internet sites of reliable companies that permit you to enter your vacation details and find you the quotations. You can also purchase the particular international travel insurance policy on internet by using your own credit card. All you should do is usually to enter all travel particulars and you can view the plans side-by-side. You only need to find the package that suits your financial allowance and needs and after that use your credit card to buy them. Travel insurance on the internet is a good way to check for a reputable company pertaining to international travel cover. Thanks for discussing your ideas.
