As "Piers Morgan Live" continued its coverage of the bombings in Boston and the respective emotional aftermath, a fertilizer plant in West, Texas set fire and erupted in a massive explosion on Wednesday evening and burned through Thursday morning.
Piers Morgan spoke to the mayor of West, Tommy Muska, by phone:
"I was two blocks away and responded to the fire when it exploded," said Muska. "The blast took out about a five block radius of the fertilizer plant."
"60, 70, 80," speculated the mayor on the number of homes consumed by the subsequent fire. "These are private resident homes, one school, one nursing home, one apartment."

During the broadcast, officials gave an update on the fire and explosion telling the public that there were "probably over 100 injuries at this time" and "we do have confirmed fatalities."
D.L. Wilson from the Department of Public Safety, said that the damage and decimation around the blast site was "massive, just like Iraq, just like the Murray Building in Oklahoma City."

Witness Dr. George Smith, an EMS doctor at West Rest Haven, a hospital and nursing home, was inside the hospital building evacuating residents when the explosion occurred.
"When I heard [about] the fire, I went to the nursing home and had the nursing home residents on that side closest to the fire evacuated to the other side of the building," recounted Smith.
"I was in there when the explosion went off so I got trapped in the glass and the ceiling just fell on me."

So the Boston Marathon bombers have been identified and have proven themselves to be willing and able to shoot it out with police, including the use of explosive devices. So now with one bomber dead, a massive manhunt is on for the other bomber, the dead one’s brother, in an area outside of Boston. The police, including federal agents, and lots of them, are all searching vigorously while carrying all types of automatic and semi-automatic weapons with high-volume capacity magazines. Meanwhile, the community is on lockdown and high alert. That means most people are taking refuge in their homes whenever they can or have to.
So what are the law-abiding citizens protecting their homes and families with? Remember, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away…
