"Piers Morgan Live, Rewind": A fertilizer plant in West, Texas, catches fire and then erupts in a massive explosion

Whether you fell asleep early, stayed out too late, or simply want to watch it again, we realize it's not always possible to get your entire "Piers Morgan Live" fix from television. As an answer to this, we offer the below labor of love – "Piers Morgan Live, Rewind" – dedicated and designed to getting you caught up and connected to the conversation.

  • Fertilizer plant explosion in West, Texas

As "Piers Morgan Live" continued its coverage of the bombings in Boston and the respective emotional aftermath, a fertilizer plant in West, Texas set fire and erupted in a massive explosion on Wednesday evening and burned through Thursday morning.

Piers Morgan spoke to the mayor of West, Tommy Muska, by phone:

"I was two blocks away and responded to the fire when it exploded," said Muska. "The blast took out about a five block radius of the fertilizer plant."

"60, 70, 80," speculated the mayor on the number of homes consumed by the subsequent fire. "These are private resident homes, one school, one nursing home, one apartment."

  • Explosion aftermath "like Iraq" says official

During the broadcast, officials gave an update on the fire and explosion telling the public that there were "probably over 100 injuries at this time" and "we do have confirmed fatalities."

D.L. Wilson from the Department of Public Safety, said that the damage and decimation around the blast site was "massive, just like Iraq, just like the Murray Building in Oklahoma City."

  • Witness to West, Texas explosion recounts the moment of the explosion

Witness Dr. George Smith, an EMS doctor at West Rest Haven, a hospital and nursing home, was inside the hospital building evacuating residents when the explosion occurred.

"When I heard [about] the fire, I went to the nursing home and had the nursing home residents on that side closest to the fire evacuated to the other side of the building," recounted Smith.

"I was in there when the explosion went off so I got trapped in the glass and the ceiling just fell on me."

  • Watch the explosion

And during the evening and early morning, "Piers Morgan Live" broadcasted footage of the exact moment of the explosion.

Yeah, I used to like him until he got all up in my 2nd Amendment rights ... he needs to "deport himself" ... promises ... promises ... typical liberal liar. Piers ... maybe you should watch old footage of Walter Cronkite ... he knew how to get peoples attention.

We're all waiting for Piers to leave, if he is a man of his word. I hear the Congo is looking for expatriate Brits to tell them how to run things. Don't forget your insect repellent, oh wait, he is OK with bugs.

So the Boston Marathon bombers have been identified and have proven themselves to be willing and able to shoot it out with police, including the use of explosive devices. So now with one bomber dead, a massive manhunt is on for the other bomber, the dead one’s brother, in an area outside of Boston. The police, including federal agents, and lots of them, are all searching vigorously while carrying all types of automatic and semi-automatic weapons with high-volume capacity magazines. Meanwhile, the community is on lockdown and high alert. That means most people are taking refuge in their homes whenever they can or have to.

So what are the law-abiding citizens protecting their homes and families with? Remember, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away…

      Good points,Harry,

I'd be happy to endorse a good pistol and rifle, trained to use,and licensed, but it's guys like Alex Jones with 50 firearms, and NRA members with 39:2 men, almost 100 guns, and you can't trust everyone to lock them away.

      Nicky Lanza,for example.

  9. Comments and promises broken

Please go back to the UK and give them all your worldly advise. We are sick and tired of listening how "you" are so smart and know so much about the United States and our people. The responsible people do not need your 2cents anymore and we are not all bad. You made a promise to leave, now honor it and go back home.
