Robert Duffy, stepson of the man who discovered "Suspect #2": "At that point, he became an absolute hero"
On the heels of Friday evening's dramatic capture of the second suspect wanted in connection with Monday's bombings at the Boston Marathon, Piers Morgan spoke on the phone with Robert Duffy, who supplied vidid detail as to the way in which 19-year-old Dzhokar Tsarnaev was discovered, and how authorities were ultimately alerted.
Duffy's mother and stepfather live in Watertown, Mass., and upon the lifting of the outdoor ban, the couple took a walk through their yard, and noticed something interesting:
"The wind had picked up during the day, and the tarp on his [David, Robert's stepfather] winterized boat had sort of been flapping in the wind," explained Duffy. "He got closer and realized that one of the retention straps had literally been cut."
Noticing some blood on the outside of the tarp, Duffy's stepfather used a stepladder to look inside of his boat:
"He definitely noticed that there was something crumpled up in a ball in the forward portion, and at that point, he became an absolute hero," Duffy said of his stepfather. "He did the right thing as law enforcement had urged, he jumped off the ladder and called 9-1-1. They were within foot traffic distance, immediately my mother and David were evacuated from the home."
Unable to take their cell phones with them, the Watertown residents couldn't get in touch with Duffy and his sister, creating a period of extreme tension:
"As the bullets were coming across the television, my sister and I were in close communication with each other. We only saw the bullets, we only heard that there was a man covered in blood in the boat. We couldn't reach the household, they had already been evacuated, unbeknownst to us," he told the "Piers Morgan Live" host. "It was absolutely horrifying for approximately 40 minutes, we had no idea what was going on."
Watch the clip, and listen to the interview, as Duffy goes on to explain the moment he learned his mother and stepfather were safe, at which point his "tears of horror, went to tears of joy."

You always ask the right questions. I have one. Why is the truth that all of our "forces" and trained personnel did not look in the boat not being discussed? They had called off the search and a Civilian was the hero who found the second suspect. The inability of all of these law enforcement men not being able to find the young man does not inspire my confidence. How about you?

I have some inside information on this! Of course they will never tell you, but the yard was searched three separate times by supposedly trained observers, and Joe blow citizen finds it right away. Our police, FB I and military would not ever dare admit this. Wait till of trained true reporter gets his hands on this, they will be extremely embarrassed! Fortunately, Mr. Morgan is not one of them, and by one of them, I mean a trained reporter who will dig through thousands of pages to find this out! You can call me lame all you want, but these are the people who were being praised so much by politicians for their great work, etc. and even with infrared cameras in helicopters, they still did not find him! Just wanted to comment on the amazing capture events of the two bombers and murderers. It's sort of a "It takes a Village" deal. Civilian vigilance, store and everyman videos, On Top of It federal and local law enforcement. It feels miraculous. Unfolding in a near perfect apprehension. Who would ever want to mess with Boston. America seems to be getting appropriately angry... so much more powerful than frightened. All are in my prayers.
