Greg Ball explains his stance: "You're talking to a guy that supports death penalty for cop killers, terrorists"

As Greg Ball has seemingly inserted himself into the national spotlight for a his recent social media offerings, this evening Piers Morgan invited the New York State Senator to further explain one tweet in particular:

As part of a combative interview with a guest Morgan later described as being a "weird man," Ball registered the following quotes and claims:

"Dude you're talking to a guy that supports death penalty for cop killers, terrorists," said Ball about himself when asked about how he expects to torture the alleged terroist, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev who is an American citizen.

"If you met this scumbag [Tsarnaev] before he killed these people, turned people into amputees, what would you do? Play cards? Maybe I should have said it in a British accent."

And when Morgan commented on his "macho" attitude, Ball fired back, "If I wanted to be macho I'd challenge you to an arm wrestling contest."

Click the link, and watch the video for the entire contentious exchange which ultimately caused Ball to leave earlier than expected.

I watched this life. This guy was an a**. I've never seen someone so rude on a talk show like this. I was surprised Piers asked him back after the break, and not disappointed he didn't come back.

I agree with you- Greg Ball is an *ss, d*ckhead, JERK, etc... I'm becoming agitated/furious just watching him. What a poor excuse for a "red-blooded American"! If HE is what 'being an American' is all about, then I'm completely embarrassed and ashamed. This Greg Ball "politician" was so incredibly rude and condescending. Poor excuse for a role model. He obviously cannot regulate his emotions appropriately. How/why did he get elected in the first place?! He's obviously EXTREMELY mature- couldn't finish the conversation and wouldn't even allow Piers to speak. Lovely that he felt the need to mock and put down Pier's accent. Good riddance to Greg Ball

Naaaaa Piers was trying to be pompus goody goody know it all, and dude wasn't having it! He called like it is! 13 people now have to live the rest of their life without a leg/s or arm/s. That may be fine with you or some others, but I'd rather die than not be able to wrap my arms around my wife, or have to depend on others to do simple tasks. A mother is dead, her son, and a finance student with a bright future all dead. For what? Its not like he talking about the pope, or even a common thief, or the mentally disabled. He's talking about a terrorist that took advantage of all this country had to offer him, and then blew up innocent men women and children in this country, for nothing.. You'd use any means possible to that info out of one cruel heartless guy, if it could have spared all those innocent peoples grief and lives. Get over it. That dude was just being real!

Taye- I have a great amount of sympathy for the victims and their families & friends- One reason I wanted to watch this episode of Piers in the first place.

Though you probably feel different from me, I ALSO have sympathy for "the bomber's" family and friends. They have lost someone dear to them, are being judged by the world for something they likely had no control over, have a 19 yo that will likely serve a life sentence or be sentenced to death (I realize he brought that upon himself), and so on...

A little girl lost her father (she is innocent in all of this too!) because of a choice her FATHER made (suspect #1). This child didn't make that decision herself! She didn't have control over that! It amazes me how people can talk about how bad they feel for the people who lost this or that, but are unable to have that same sympathy for everyone who has been negatively affected.

You two are a minority group in the US. I hope you don't have any family members serving overseas because if they're ever caught and tortured to extract information regarding other American operations, remember that the Universe read your and Greg Ball's comments. The US is not innocent when it comes to dropping bombs and killing innocent people – women and children at weddings for example.

I really cannot believe Greg Ball is a State Senator. He was absolutely shameful, rude, obnoxious, and frankly not well spoken. He reminded me of the typical tough talking bully that just repeats themselves louder and more aggressively but has no real support it. He made me ashamed for Americans. We all want to protect our children, but using bats is not the lesson to teach. The fact that he cowarded off during a commercial, only confirms who he really is.

I can understand the anger we all share when talking about this bombing but watching this idiot spout off about torture only adds to that anger. This moron should be run out of government and fast. Does he feel the same way about drunk drivers who kill or any other person whose willful actions cause death? Should we make a new reality show called Executioner? he said his opinion, I'll say mine, you sir are a tool 🙂

Let the courts decide the bombers fate.

You're an fool, did Ball say any of that crap? No. This kid is an enemy combatant who targeted the civilian population. Drunk drivers are a****les too. Do you really think there is not a difference between those two types of killers? If you don't then you need an evaluation. He shouldn't be allowed to have a civilian trial and make an even bigger spectacle in the aftermath of the terrorist attack, he should be in Gitmo down in a deep dark hole and receive a daily bath in the form of waterboarding. Assuming he is convicted and sentenced to death how long will he sit on death row, how many appeals will he file? As an enemy combatant on American soil he should have no rights, citizen or not, he gave up those rights the moment he set the bomb and walked away to watch.

I am using this method to post a comment because it seemed the quickest. I am not so much distrubed by his rudeness but by his faulty reasoning and creepy opinions. It may be he is simply a sadist. He is certainly not a thinking man or a man who understands the drawbacks and repercussions of the state use of torture. I hope he gets voted out. He is not talking about justice or getting information from people in custody who may have information about more attacks...he is talking about vengence, revenge, and his personal love of brutality. Again, creepy.

Greg Ball might have crossed the line but he's an honorable public servant with good intentions. To call him rude, when we've all heard how rude Morgan has been to guests in the last few months is a bit much. So OK this terrorist is a citizen, but he wasn't born here and as such maybe his privileges as a citizen should be revoked. We revoke citizenship for much lesser crimes!

I will not try to "polite" this up, I am really embarrassed by this "politician". He would not answer the question because he was AFRAID to -point blank. He knew exactly where his 'logic' was leading to after Morgan pointed it out. Instead of 'owning' it he tried to steamroller over it. Fail. We do not torture our citizens and it is really weird to me that he finds this problematic. We keep electing people who do not seem to have a clue as to our history and why this nation was even founded which was, in a nutshell, to escape such people as this "politician". All of that being said when you hear a politician use the word "Dude" in addressing an interviewer in a sit down interview it may be a good indication of what you might discover next about him/her. We really don't need gung-ho limited thinking simple minded people in government anymore than we need those who are the opposite. Why do we elect these people? How are we fooled?

So in a few months time if there is another attack, like the one luckily thwarted yesterday by Canadian authorities who arrested two operative planning to attack the train that runs between Toronto and NYC, what are you going to say then; the body count from if it hadn't been stopped would have been horrific. Elected officials have a responsibility to protect the public's interest – not be cheerleaders in a game versus terrorists. With power comes responsibility which this man clearly has none.

This guy needs to stay in the realm of Sensationalized Cartoon News like Fox and leave the rational talky time to the adults 😉

Senator Ball displayed the kind of classless hostility one has come to expect from right-wing ideologues today. The man is a throwback to the days of Joe McCarthy. He told Morgan that he should ask the President about policy the next time he "golfs or plays basketball" with him. What kind of disrespectful crack was that, which came from out of nowhere. Ball appears to suffer from a Napoleonic complex where the little guy feels that he constantly has to demonstrate how tough and brutal he can be. Any sign of empathy or dignity would betray a weakness. So he tries to act like a belligerent little thug on testosterone medication. Piers Morgan is a talk show host. Ball is a state senator. The standard for behavior should NOT be the same. Ball is an embarrassment to the state of New York.

With a little time and an email address (, you too can share your thoughts:

    Senator Ball,

Not sure what you were trying to prove last night, but you succeeded at one thing: proving that you are a lousy guest. You mocked Mr. Morgan's British heritage (that's always a knee-slapper, especially when it's completely out of context), and you tried to pick a fight with him like a schoolyard punk ("arm wrestling"? Really?). Your "playing cards" line fell flat...twice. And did you really call Morgan "dude", as in "seriously, dude"?

And you still insisted that it's OK to torture American citizens.

And I'm glad I saw a transcript of this line so I could read it a second time: "I think that I share the feelings of a lot of red-blooded Americans who believe that if we can save even one innocent American life, including we've seen the killing of children, that they would use - and this is just for me - that they would use every tool at their disposal to do so." Like stronger background checks for gun purchases, for example? Yup, I'll admit it. I'm one of the 90% of red-blooded Americans who are in favor of that one.

Just a hunch: most of the people who voted for you didn't know that this was the Greg Ball they would be getting. Oh, and Stephen Colbert called and wants his eyebrow back.

I think what bothers me the most is this complete disregard for the constructs of intelligent debate or civilized conversation from a man that is supposed to be the representative voice of an entire State. It is a malignant behavior in our society that has seemingly become acceptable __ Hate- speech precipitates more outrage_ begets more TV ratings a rock star political career ~ This has to stop!
This is not the time to give amplification to that fringe element of the Republican Party which still erroneously and egregiously feels that grabbing one's crotch on a global stage and spitting on the ground is in any way intimidating to an element whose sole purpose is to destroy the American way of life_ one innocent at a time.; Nor is it useful for us to allow people like Greg Ball to use what happened here in Massachusetts as a soap box to further his own political agenda. We are still washing the blood off our streets in Boston, the bagpipes still a din in our ears, our dead barely in the ground. Voices like his serve only to incite those that would propagate this type of indecorous communicative behavior. He and his ilk need to be regulated and paddocked within their proper arena~ It was very gracious of Mr. Morgan to allow this man airtime to um, humiliate himself. It had some of the same tone of a well- known debate between William F. Buckley Jr. and Gore Vidal__ minus one intelligent, well-spoken and dignified man 😉

What would GREG BALL have done if he were in a room with one of those bomber guy?...BEFORE the incident? He probably WOULD HAVE played cards with the bomber guy (not knowing what he would eventually do). He probably would have smiled and shook the bomber guy's hand for the cameras for the sole purpose of maybe squeezing a few more votes from the Chechen-Americans for his party or for a re-election. Hopefully the people of New York will not re-elect this mouthy, tough-talking-for-the-record-and-for-TV clown.
