State Sen. Stacey Campfield on his 'assault pressure cooker' joke: "We're talking about an inanimate object that does nothing by itself"
As Bostonians and the rest of the nation continued to heal from the Boston Marathon bombings, "Piers Morgan Live" spoke to state Sen. Stacey Campfield who defended his controversial joke about pressure cookers in the wake of the bombings.
The Tennessee Republican lawmaker posted a blog with a picture of an "assault pressure cooker" under the blog caption, "Here comes Feinstein again," likely intended to mock Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s defeated proposals on an assault weapons ban.
"We're talking about an inanimate object that does nothing by itself," said Campfield comparing a firearm to a pressure cooker. "It does absolutely nothing by itself just like a pressure cooker does absolutely nothing by itself."
"The joke was really about the left and how they push for gun control on inanimate objects just like pushing for spoon control for obesity, it doesn't do anything."

He says that pressure cookers can be used to cook things. What other things can guns do besides shoot things? What kind of question is that? Both of these objects are tools that people use at their own discretion. What would you say if I asked what else could a pressure cooker do except cook? Its the exact same question Piers pulled out of his own ass. And what kind of argument is if you carry around bombs you will be safe. What is cringe worthy is how ridiculous Piers Morgans sounds. Just like what he said about Australian shootings. In 2002, the Monash University shooting occurred in Melbourne, Australia in which 2 people were killed and 5 others were wounded. Even with the gun control policies that Piers loves so much.

I watched Piers Morgan for the first time tonight and I'm wondering if he regularly threatens his guests. I was stunned when he told state Sen Stacey Campfield he would see him next time there is mass shooting and they are usually directed at people like him. Yikes! Piers seems stoic and harsh and unable to relate to people. Some viewers appreciate that in an interviewer, but threatening doesn't seem ok even if you are socially inept.
Inviting someone back to the show after the next mass shooting is not a threat. Look up the word threat.

I marvel at the democracy of this once great nation. When elected officials are legally bribed by the gun lobby to vote against what 90% want, what happened to the majority rules idea? What exactly is wrong with background checks? If you aren't a nut or a criminal, you'll get your gun and keep the ones you already have. Why is it harder to get a driver's license than it is to get a gun? That's simply warped. How tragic is it that people from any state could elect such a fool as this senator? He is not even fit to organize as 3 year old's birthday party. I wonder if he ever considered the victims or the families of the victims and their feelings before he ran off his big mouth. In the next election he has, his opponent should just replay this stupid and callous remark over and over again. Morgan is also a disingenous, gotcha-try interviewer. Tonight, he asked his guest, what can pressure-cookers do other than kill people? Answer: cook food. His follow-up question re guns should have been, what can guns do other than kill people? Allowing the answers, hunt, target practice, self-defense, etc. But instead his follow-up question was, what can guns do other than shoot? That took his less-sophistacted guest off guard, who continued with a bad answer. That makes Morgan feel quite clever, no doubt, but it makes him a deplorable interviewer in the event truth is the objective.
Nice try trying to sugar-coat it, but guns are only used to shoot, whether it's targets (which make you a better killer), or self-defense (which make you a killer), or hunting (which make you a killer).
So, are you against self-defense??? Guns are designed to “incapacitate” predators, either enraged animals or criminals or mad men, yes, by sometimes killing them, but unfortunately in some cases, that is the only way you can "stop them from killing you" and/or the people you want to protect (that could include children)!!!

The honorable state senator showed poor debating skills. As a journalist you showed your eagerness to showcase such debatable view points. If firearms were to have the same safety features as pressure cookers(PC) we could have saved this time for something more useful cause. It is impossible for PC to explode with many safety features. Even the most stupid/insane people can not misuse and make it explode. It requires technical specialists to disable these safety features in a PC, may require few days and lot of reading/planning to do it. Most of the modern convenience devices can be misused to harm others. But we should build safety features as well as precise tracking to make them difficult to misuse. For the sake of public safety Govt should identify such devices and start tacking them from manufacturing to end use. The most distinctive features of firearms as compared to PC are, how instantly, conveniently, precisely, accurately firearms can be used to cause harms to others. This make them to be tracked with great care.

Any and all of the safety features on a pressure cooker can be defeated in 20 minutes with a screwdriver, a hammer, some duct tape, and maybe some insulating foam. The trick is that the intent to defeat them has to be there; as safety features, you have to force them to fail in an unsafe manner. But it's not difficult.
In fact, it's pretty easy to make a variety of explosive devices with household chemicals. It's also possible to use other household stuff as ways to increase the devastation caused. With an internet connection, you may be only minutes away from being able to cause another attack like this for less than $100.
It is incredibly easy to make a bomb. They just tend to be made and used by people sending a message. Mass shootings are harder to predict, because they're often the result of genuine mental illness like anti-social personality disorder. Bombs tend to be worse though, as there is often no defensive posture one can take to address the problem with minimal loss of life. Thus, a bomb can go off anywhere, but a mass shooting tends to happen in a gun-free zone.

Would just like to say that Stacey Campfield, regardless of what he claims, DOES NOT speak for the people of Tennessee. He barely even speaks for the people of his district. In fact, the only place in his district in which he polls well is a small, wealthy, conservative township on the edge of the city that likes to pretend it isn't part of Knoxville proper. He's not even FROM the state of Tennessee, but was born and raised in New York.
I am a native of Tennessee and live in a district just South of Mr. Campfield's. Without fail, every time he opens his mouth or blogs on his website, he incites disgust and fury from the majority of compassionate, level-headed Tennesseans. Even my very conservative, FOX news loving parents can't stand the man because of his heartless, tactless diatribes against everyone he thinks will get him a response. If I wasn't so determined that people should see what a terrible person he is I would sincerely wish we could stop talking about his hate-mongering because I know he just loves the spot light, however negative.
You certainly don't have to agree with me, or Mr. Morgan, politically, to recognize that this man is nothing but an ugly minded, attention-seeking politician who knows no shame. There are better ways to get your points across than stooping to the levels of Mr. Campfield.
I also wanted to mention that my uncle is a Republican State Representative here in Tennessee who has to deal with Mr. Campfield on a regular basis and has shared with me that most his fellow State Representatives and State Senators loathe Mr. Campfield because he makes them all look bad. The good work they try to do is largely ignored on a national level because people like Mr. Campfield bring the wrong kind of media attention to our state.
Maybe you relative should start stating good clear republican principles such as blame the person for the crime instead of an inanimate object. Campfield does make most of the political people look bad because he at least is trying to stand for something!! Our republican (including your relative) has become watered down dems! I sent an email to Senator's website, expressing my disgust for his vulgar and rude behavior on the show. This was his reply back to me this morning: " Is this the open minded tolerance I hear so much about?"
I replied that I don't tolerate rude and vulgar behavior from anybody, but especially an elected official. How sad that our representatives use their government websites to promote insensitive jokes to grieving citizens and poke fun at other senators' work ethics. I encourage you to take 5 and email the idiot directly.

I don't think he's saying guns would have save the bombing victims. I think what he's saying is that an inanimate object designed to cook a delicious meal was modified and used to kill 3 and greivously injure 130 in less than a second. He's saying it's an inanimate object, like a firearm; and was making a point that guns seem to be the only inanimate object blamed for the actions of an individual who chose to use it in a horrifying manner.
As for the question of when he will be going back to England, that was regarding a statement Piers made stating that if the universal background check legislation did not pass, he would leave the country in fear for his child's life. That being said, he likely wouldn't go back to England, where he was sacked from his last job for publishing a completely untrue story regarding the conduct of British soldiers in the Middle East. He doesn't always tell the truth; he goes after the controversy.
If you are not familiar with the fundamentals of critical thinking or fallacious reasoning, the points Morgan makes would be difficult if not impossible to discern.

Please CNN get rid of Mr Morgan. You have such great journalists in Mr Blitzer, Ms Burnett, and Mr Cooper. Mr Morgan is embarrassing! It is like watching two college students arguing who got more drunk last Saturday. His debate skills and his journalistic skills are on par with a student in high school.
We should thank Piers for putting public safety as his priority concern for our country. Are you concerned about public safety?? How about stricter alcohol control then? Not to mention alcohol-related violence, DUIs cause more deaths than guns. How about we change the law to require all drinkers (including occasional to moderate ones) be registered as an alcohol user and have a sticker as such on their car license plates, and give highway patrol officers the authority to pull them over anytime to have them take a breathalyzer test? Oh, and background checks every time anyone buys alcohol to make sure the buyer doesn’t have a history of alcohol/substance abuse. By the way, the cost of the registry and background checks should be shared by all the drinkers including responsible ones. Why do people scream only about the things the media sensationalizes and forget other things that victimize a lot more?

Campfield clearly demonstrated that to be state senator from Tennessee, it is not necessary to be able to formulate or articulate any form of rational, logical argument or analysis. He kept repeating the same statement over and over and indicated to the CNN audience he is incapable of responding with anything remotely intellectual in an interview. He panicked because he is an imbecile, albeit a smug one. Why else would he, instead of responding to Piers, try to bully him and steer the discussion in a different direction. The only inanimate object I could see was the man's brain as the evidence before us demonstrates the lack of electrical impulses above his neck. Please remember that our ancestors were immigrants, if Piers needs to leave USA, then all of us need to go too(except native Indians). We need Piers's voice which will broaden our mind about gun control issues. Please look around the World or travel to other countries that disallow civilians to own the guns to observe for yourself. Once a while an insane person either kill a couple persons by a knife or himself just jump off the building if choose a violent acts, but never bomb on the street. Gun, explosive materials can and should be controlled or ban or limited if we really want to own a peaceful society.
We are not in the wild, wild WEST era anymore. Our democratic government is so solid and stable, there is no aggression or threat to citizens from the Government. Guns should be kept outside the city limits, not in the closets for our children easily to reach. Many unnecessary policemen or civilians gun deaths will be prevented. George, I have often danced in my house, in the streets, and many other places. I have played modified golf in parks, my back yard, school grounds, etc. The reason people say Piers should leave the country is because Piers SAID he would leave if he didn't get his way. This is just simply asking him to keep his word. Guns will never go away, so the most preventative measure is education on gun safety. It is human nature to be violent, even if it is not what works for society, so, taking away the rights of the honest law-abiding citizens, only leaves the innocent unprotected from the law breakers, who are most likely to commit these heinous crimes. When was the last time you heard of a law abiding citizen shooting up a school? movie theater? NEVER!! Adam Lanza tried TWICE to buy the weapons he desired, and was denied TWICE by the regulations that exist presently. That didn't stop him though, as he stole his own mother's guns, and killed her with them. Adding more regulation only makes the perpetrators think a little more creatively to achieve their intended goal, but does not stop the carnage that is the will of the killer.
