Boston and London wheelchair race champion Tatyana McFadden: "If you're missing limbs, you're still not missing out on life"

An elite wheelchair racer, Tatyana McFadden had already won the Boston Marathon, and was emerging from the shower in her hotel room when the looks on the faces of her friends and relatives had her realizing something had gone horrifically wrong.

A week later, inspired to race for the victims of the marathon bombings and remaining "Boston Strong," McFadden traveled across the pond, winning the London marathon amidst an overwhelming amount of support for those stricken by the previous Monday's terror attack:

"London was amazing. I couldn't ask for a better support system. I saw banners up, and crowds cheering my name, and saying 'way to go,' 'run for Boston,' McFadden explains on tonight's "Piers Morgan Live" episode. "Two pounds was donated to Boston for every runner who finished across the finish line, and the support that we got was amazing, and the whole weekend was just about Boston."

Born in Russia – the very country that warned the United States about the dangerous potential of suspected bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev – McFadden's disability is the result of an untreated case of infant spina bifida. She was adopted by an American woman, and moved to the U.S. at the age of six.

Now, with the help of her sister, a fellow amputee, McFadden has dedicated herself to becoming a role model and a source of strength and inspiration for others with disabilities:

"I wanted to go back to Boston, and really visit those who are injured, and say there's hope, and there's light into the future, and if you're missing limbs, you're still not missing out on life," she tells Piers Morgan. "We were going to go down there, and just to bring hope, just really show how to live life, and that life is not gone, just yet, after this tragedy, and to help cope with broken heartaches."
