Debbie Wasserman Schultz on Angelina Jolie: "It was like reading my own story and reliving my own decision"
On Tuesday evening, in response to the news that actress and activist Angelina Jolie underwent a preventive double mastectomy after learning that she carried a mutation of the BRCA1 gene, which sharply increased her risk of developing breast cancer and ovarian cancer, "Piers Morgan Live" welcomed back to the program Debbie Wasserman Schultz to share her own experience with both breast and ovarian cancer.
"It was like reading my own story and reliving my own decision," said Wasserman Schultz who tested positive for the BRCA2 gene mutation and opted to have both a double mastectomy and to have her ovaries removed. "It's not an easy decision to have your breasts removed and to force yourself into early menopause."
"To me, thinking about whether I would be there for my childrens' birthdays and graduations and important milestones, you know, I just didn't want there to be any questions."

I watched with great interest Debbie's interview about her experience with breast cancer and what she chose to do about it. However, she mentioned that the cancer screen tests available today are not only not available for many women, but that the test is "patented" and a second option should be available. I am an RN (not oncology) and had no idea about this. I have tried to contact her website to gain more information, but got nowhere – there is no option for this sort of question. i called her office (from Sweden) and just got the usual voicemail options, none of which helped me get to my goal which is "Can you please elaborate on what you said?" I can't be the only woman who wants more details on what she said: it could be CRUCIAL. So how do we contact Debbie for more info? She dropped a cliffhanger, with nowhere to go.
I omitted to mention I was writing about the BRCA tests, not mammograms.
