Ed Gallek on Ariel Castro's three dogs: "There's some talk in law enforcement circles in recent days about the dogs being pets for the women"

With fresh details in the Cleveland kidnapping case seemingly emerging each day, on Thursday evening Piers Morgan invited Ed Gallek to return to the program with the latest developments.

Having been covering the story since its inception, the Ohio-based reporter offered news of a previously unknown canine angle:

"Three dogs tied to this case, pets, really. A Chihuahua found in the car with Ariel Castro and his brother the night they got arrested, and then two other dogs found in the home with the hostages," explained Gallek, as images of the dogs rolled across the screen. "Now, I am told that the dogs were in reasonably good health...the question is, what happens to them next."

Asked by the host what purpose these dogs might have served, or what value they brought to a man accused of kidnapping and raping three women over a 10 year span, and Gallek shared some rumors that have been spreading throughout his community:

"The role of these dogs is still unclear, although last week we reported about an R.I.P. writing on the wall in the basement. R.I.P., that is believed to be in reference to an animal," he explained. "There's some talk in law enforcement circles in recent days about the dogs being pets for the women. That has not been confirmed, fleshed out. That is something that we're still looking into, but that is another possibility."

Watch the clip, and listen to the interview, as Gallek shares further reporting, revealing what Cleveland authorities plan to do with the dogs, both in the near future, and then as an ultimate solution once the investigation has been completed.

Seems fairly obvious that the dogs were there to deter any intruders or strangers from entering the house as well as to mask noises made by the women or child and to excuse any foul odors created by the captives inability to access proper washroom facilities.

Probably on to something there,BL,you look at him,and it's a wonder he can tie his own laces, but you're constantly confounded no doubt,'cos I bet he's sly as a fox, compounded by characters not too dissimilar to him I encountered in the
East End after the landlord started letting them in:only people who'd befriend him,and we're up the stairs...happy days.
